Your article was so refreshing. I cannot believe that an article that was so dead on would get such horrible backlash. I have to admit I own a pair of the things but I am an OR nurse and i wear them at work. The shoe was actually meant to be worn in the OR because they can be easily cleaned. The article was great and is currently hanging in the work lounge. Keep up the great work.

Oh Steve! I read your Article in the Sept. 11 Newsweek, went back and found the Aug. 11 Newsweek to read. I have never laughed so hard! I am right there with you. I have friends, co-workers, and my children's friends who wear them, and I just don't get it. They are the ugliest things ever made. I was at a local beach one day. There was this guy who was quite possibly one of the sexiest men I have ever seen. Tall, dark hair, blue eyes, perfectly built body. WEARING CROCS! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!? Why?!?! The whole picture perfect moment was ruined. I too hate Crocs. Thanks for the article. It was great.

Are you kidding me?!?! Why?!?! The whole picture perfect moment was ruined. I too hate Crocs. Thanks for the article. It was great.

You sir, are a genius! I've yet to read such a stunning piece of literature in all my days. This is an issue that we need to address. I am glad someone in a position to do much good has put his power to work. You are a role model, an inspiration, a pioneer, and you must be a good father. When I have kids, I can see myself teaching him how to spot dorks when we come across them. Thank you

Reading your article this morning made me laugh in ways I haven't for many many months. (And I don't even have an opinion about Crocs, although that might be changing after all THIS.) The ending anecdote was bittersweet, too, and I was truly moved -- more power to those who can face the darkness and still possess enough inner light to laugh... I wish there were more of us in the world.

I love love LOVED this column!! I can't believe people got so incensed over freaking shoes - but thank you for putting them in their place. (For the record, I didn't think your column promoted genocide, either.) I would ask you to marry me, but I'm saving myself for Michael Phelps.

I got up at 5 a.m. and thumbed through the latest Newsweek and "what a croc of shoes" caught my eye. I read it and laughed out loud. Without even reading the prequel to this essay ??? I could relate. I'm an Asst. Principal in a 1500+ HS and see irony all the time. By the way, when I wore my only pair of purple crocs to school it didn't go unnoticed and created quite a clamor!

Absolutely hilarious! My husband and I were laughing hysterically as we read both of your Croc essays. Can't wait to read more of your work. Thanks again for the laughs!

Hilarious!!! until it wasn't. I get it; I think! Keep up the good work. You make the dude at TIME look plain dorky! Since my husband wears Crocs, he said I couldn't marry you. And 'cause were not polygamists. --Dork's Wife in Alabama

I thought your crocs editorials were great. I love my tan, brown, and black crocs, but I will agree with you that the brighly colored ones are goofy. There are some new less clownish styles now for women, just fyi. :-)

You are so funny. I loved your last article, as well as this one. Keep them coming! From, a nerdy violin teacher who wears crocs all day.

While your first "Croc" article was amusing, when I read the follow-up, I laughed so hard I cried. It was the funniest thing I've read in quite a while - certainly the funniest thing I've every read in NEWSWEEK. In case you're thinking you've taken this topic as far as it can go, you're wrong - I have a new angle for you. Is the likability of Crocs in ones DNA? I ask this because at a recent family gathering, I noticed that while neither my brother, my sister nor I own a pair of Crocs, both their spouses and all their children (ages 1 to 10) wear them. (I should note that my brother-in-law wears the manly khaki green Crocs.) Whatever the topic, I look forward to your next column - especially people talking on cell phones in public. Rant on Steve Tuttle!

Thanks again for a second article on Crocs, but it doesn't surprise me that you received so many comments on such a subject. After all, what real impact do people feel they have on politics and the war in Iraq? But oh the impact the American consumer does have on purchasing durable and nondurable products. I look forward to your next installment. It is beginning to be the corner I turn to to get my giggles for the week. Sigrid from Oracle

although i really don't know what "kudos" means... Kudos to you.
I read the first article, making the class I was reading it in a bit more enjoyable... but I would have never guessed that there were people out there who thought they were articulate enough to convey their defense to the ridiculous footwear. Are those people really putting their privacy at stake so they can could publicly threathen someone who doesn't like a pair of shoes.. I mean.. really now.

If it counts for anything.. I live in the state notorious for NOT wearing any footwear, Kentucky. Yet these crocs have found their way into our homes!! abomination.

    pro-NORMAL shoes forever

Thank you for ending your followup with the comment from leayellowrose. Her son has a place in my heart as I have followed his story & hers for a year & half now. And yes. they LOVE crocs. The boys in my house do too... but i wont be caught near them!

    Thanks for the laugh!
