Dear Dork: Thank you so much for sharing readers' comments. You are officially my fave goober dad, and I for one am delighted that you have been publicated. I don't believe killing yourself would be a better use of your time, and keep on stirring the pot with the stick of America. You are indeed hilarious -- it's not all that often that I laugh out loud reading Newsweek! Looking forward to your upcoming articles about cell phones and airline food (is there still such a thing?) -- or whatever else you come up with.

both articles were absolutely amazing, you're brilliant (Tuttle for president 2016??) and I'd like to add another marriage proposal to your list!!!

These 2 articles are the funniest articles that I have read. I love when other people hate the things that I hate and have the means with which to express this hatred to the entire world! Crocs are the ugliest shoes that I have ever seen, and I have despised them since they came out and I really believe that they are just a fad that my kids will hate also when some fool will try to bring them back 20 years from now, like "jellies".

Sorry for the typos. Should have corrected them. Hard to type while still laughing and trying to catch my breath.

I thought you were a good writer when I read your first article. However, I now know that you are an amazing writer. I haven't laughed this hard in a long time.

Loved your articles so much I read them to my teenage son and my hubby. (both of whom now think I'm crazy and don't see your point nearly as well as I do (partly due to the overwhelming fits of hysterical laughter and the snorting when I couldn't catch my breath).

Anyway, thanks so much! I'm not a devoted follower. Can't wait to see what else you come up with..

I loved the first "Croc" story, but this week's piece is even better. I kept laughing out loud! I look forward to reading more of your work.

I had never paid attention to your writing until that first croc article (with which I whole-heartedly agreed) but now I check for your work first. Your writing is funny and bold enough to address the issues other journalists are too afraid to touch. If Zakaria is to pansy to go after the croc industry and its minions I'm glad Newsweek had the balls to employ someone that would.

    Dear Steve Tuttle,

I have read both articles on Croc shoes, (the first about disliking them and the second apologizing for offending people) and I, on behalf of every SANE American, would like to apologize For every person who wrote a negative letter stating stupid and ridiculous things (such as telling you to kill yourself, or saying you were probably the nerd in high school.)
These people obviously have way too much time on their hands, either that or they aren???t doing their job. These certain people are obnoxious, uninformed idiots who???s only problem is that they suffer from stupidity. I cannot believe that after reading multiple stories on political parties, war, and natural disasters that they would pick your little article about a tacky pair of shoes. It makes me sick to my stomach thinking about all the stupid people in this country. It just goes to show that even if an individual has a college degree, it does not necessarily make he or she smart.
I???m glad that this has in no way effected you (at least not negatively) and I sincerely hope that you will continue to ignore all the idiots in this country.
On a last note, this would happen to be insignificant information, but I would like to tell you that I am a high school sophomore.(this is why the grammar and wording in this letter is so bad. Writing isn???t exactly my strong point.) If I can see the story for what it is (obviously not something to be murdered over) then why can???t grown adults?!

    sincerely, a very pissed youngster.

p.s. I hate crocs too. Screw everyone who likes them. They obviously have no fashion sense :D

Keep these articles coming! In the heavy media blitz of politics and economy (all of which interest me), your column brings laughter and a sense of lightness. My Newsweek mag just arrived, flipping each page skimming the headline and quotes of each article, I arrived at yours, remembered last weeks Croc article and read on with a big goofy grin on my face. THANKS!!!

Just visited some old friends we only see once a year. I was armed with a copy of your funny rant all set to share the laughs. Alarmed, shock and dismay! One of our pals (male) was wearing a pair of crocs (small c intentional). That's a lifestyle change I didn't see coming. I stuffed the papers into the bottom of my bag. As soon as we pulled out of the driveway my spouse said "Did you see Paul (name changed to protect the guilty) was wearing crocs?! THE HORROR! What mall are you headed to? We'll join you on that bench.

Steve -- both columns were great -- anything that can make people laugh is time well spent. For the record I think the inventor of crocs should be flayed and roasted over a slow fire, but that's beside the point. I vote for terrible airplane food as your next topic -- especially now that they expect us to pay for it. Keep up the good work.

Your observations about those rubber shoes were funny as can be.
I read the follow up collumn about the e-mails you got. I have no idea why people are so upset and even called you a racist?

Since you mentioned your next subject matter will be the cell-phone, please take a note as why people SHOUT into their cell-phone. The answer is simple; there is no FEED-BACK to the speaker's ear!
Let me explain and am sure people realize what's happening with electronic phones once they understand it.
I am retired electronic engineer. Back in the 'non-electronic' phones with the rotary dial, had a nice little feature from almost day-one of the invention of the phone. The engineers back in the old days had a better understanding of human nature and designed products with greater undestanding than nowdays.
They found out if you can't hear YOURSELF talking then you'll be talking much louder. So, they have a small amount of 'feedback' to your earpeiece so you can hear yourself.... yes, even at very low volume.
Since this wonderfull feature was eliminated whatever reason (maybe it cost 98cent more in parts) people are shouting into the cell phones and other 'hi-tech' phones at home. Noisy environment don't make it so. The person hearing the other party very well, it's YOU don't hear yourself talking is the problem.
Don't take my word for this and take a test.
Next time talk very low into your cell phone.... very low. You'll feel very uncomfortable with that and gradually you will start talkinglouder. Oh, by the way, you can hear the other party clearly, and they could hear you even if you'd whisper. So, the mystery is the lack of feedback of what you're saying. It's very simple, yet none of the Mfg is interested to do this.

It was a long message but I tihnk you should experiment with this idea as why we talk so loud into our cellphones. Now ya got the message :)

If you ever do a story as why we still have spam and it could be stopped tomorrow morning with a few lines of code, please write to me. Nothing to do with silly filters Yahoo and others want you to buy... it has something to do with the lack of a "WHITE LIST" and that's not being racist, it's referred to this phrase in the tech industry. Everyone knows about it but there is NO MONEY in it to implement it for the host.
They make money selling you useless filters.

I have setup a free webmail system in the past and not a single spam landed in anyones mailbox in 9 monhts! So, if I can do it with the total cost of $300.00 then why can't Yahoo and Google ?
I can give you specifics if you're interested:
    My email: webkruzer1@yahoo.com

    cheers
