Comment: Hello Pia, I missed you. Beethoven
Comment: If Obama has to fight so desperately against a wek candidate like Mccain, he's had it.
Comment: Anyone who thinks Republicans actually care about unborn fetuses is smoking crack. Ronald Reagan signed the bill allowing abortion in Calfiornia. Republicans have milked this issue for votes for years. The worst thing that could happen to Republicans is a repeal of Roe vs. Wade. It would not allow abortions but they would lose their hot button issue that they use to get low information voters to vote for them.
Comment: LORIW your living the past...people can control if they want a baby in this day and age...wake up...what do you think birth control pills are....Abortion !!!! this election is about the economy stupid and America is hurting at home ...your right wing party has just about distroyed America, both a home and abroad...by the way what are you going to do if McBush picks ridge as a vp...he is a republican who... is pro choise....who you going to vote for then ? this election is not about abortion....its about the future of America and America can't take 4 more years of bush3
Comment: The tight race is about to become UN-Tied. People will question the Obama-Biden ticket. First you have the Pro-Abortion and Pro-Infanticide Presidential candidate who picks the Catholic VP candidate.
No matter what terminology you want to use...If you have a baby born alive after a botched late term abortion and you make a decision not to give that infant medical care, it is infanticide. Obama stated that it is too burdensome to the mother and the abortionist to summon medical care for the baby. So according to Obama's lofty thinking...it must not be too burdensome to be a baby and have to die alone in a cold hospital or clinic's dirty utility room.
Comment: You are a throwback to the 70's and early 80's. You are entitled to your opinion, however, I must agree with sparky716. There are many more issues that come to mind, healthcare, gasoline, quagmire, economy, just to name a few that affect the majority of us. If you think one issue is going to kill Obama's chances of winning the presidential race, your in for a rude awakening. And to keep repeating over and over again in every blog about the same thing, shows me that you are stuck on one issue, when there are a dozen more that will affect more people than just abortion. A woman has a right to choose what she wants to do with her body, including prevention.

The facts about Obama's votes against 'Born Alive' bills in Illinois.
Summary
Anti-abortion activists accuse Obama of "supporting infanticide," and the National Right to Life Committee says he's conducted a "four-year effort to cover up his full role in killing legislation to protect born-alive survivors of abortions." Obama says they're "lying."
At issue is Obama's opposition to Illinois legislation in 2001, 2002 and 2003 that would have defined any aborted fetus that showed signs of life as a "born alive infant" entitled to legal protection, even if doctors believe it could not survive.
Obama opposed the 2001 and 2002 "born alive" bills as backdoor attacks on a woman's legal right to abortion, but he says he would have been "fully in support" of a similar federal bill that President Bush had signed in 2002, because it contained protections for Roe v. Wade.
We find that, as the NRLC said in a recent statement, Obama voted in committee against the 2003 state bill that was nearly identical to the federal act he says he would have supported. Both contained identical clauses saying that nothing in the bills could be construed to affect legal rights of an unborn fetus, according to an undisputed summary written immediately after the committee's 2003 mark-up session.
Whether opposing "born alive" legislation is the same as supporting "infanticide," however, is entirely a matter of interpretation. That could be true only for those, such as Obama's 2004 Republican opponent, Alan Keyes, who believe a fetus that doctors give no chance of surviving is an "infant." It is worth noting that Illinois law already provided that physicians must protect the life of a fetus when there is "a reasonable likelihood of sustained survival of the fetus outside the womb, with or without artificial support."
Comment:
Do you think there might just be a connection here:
Let's see, Bush Sr. in the 1980s brought us the huge Savings & Loan scandal, in which McCain and Neal Bush personally took part and likely stashed away some undeclared profits.
Now we have had Bush Jr. ("W") in office these past eight years, culminating in - low and behold - a whopping Mortgage Crisis that impacts global banking systems and that is fast evolving into a huge credit crisis. We've sold our souls to China and have a symbiotic relationship with a "Communist" country (actually, it's evolving so fast into the United States of China, even modeling their own healthcare system after our broken one)... and we have McCain kow-towing the the Bushes in order to get elected by the neocon base that supported them.
Fact is, McCain owes Bushes big-time - the old man Bush likely covered for him in the Keating Five scandal during his S&L days. So it's payback time, and McCain is singing from the same jailbait song sheet.
Send all the CROOKS in the GOP to JAIL. Vote Obama-Biden this time and rescue the USA from the power of EEEVVVVIIIILLLLLL - the Axis of Evil is, in reality, the Bush-McCain-Romney trio of families --- THE MEGA-RICH RUINING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FOR THEIR OWN POWER AND PROFIT.
"Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" - it's a TV show that should be revived as an expose of this crooked TRIO of Republicans. Tacky, criminal, ruthless. Watch out - don't criticize 'em too much or you might get AUDITED by the IRS -- or knocked off somehow.
PS - Romney speaks FRENCH??? What a super-Elitist... Every possible privilege in his education and his connections. Mr. Perfect. I guess it's okay if a Republican politician speaks fluent French, but god forbid a Democrat should be allowed to be admired for it. I thought the GOP hated the French, the Europeans and everybody else in the world except Americans. What gives?
Comment: HIS NAME IS OBAMA LET US SPELL IT TOGETHER O-B-A-M-A. VERY GOOD SINCE HE WILL BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT, WE MUST BE CORRECT!
Comment: Double ditto!
Comment: Spell it out with me K-O-O-L A-I-D....very good.
Comment: Is koolaid the only thing that you can say of enlightment, spell enlightment, very good. Now if you are going to dish it out, remember it will be dished out back to you. So spell the word enough, thats right, become more original than koolaid with your remarks. Koolaid is as old as my friends. I hope you own stock in the company that makes KoolAid. Good now relax, and try to be nicer to Pia.
Comment: J-E-A-L-O-U-S. Obama and Biden=winning team!
Comment: He might be president of the NAACP or the Congressional Black Caucus. But unless America has an enormous epidemic of stupidity in November, Barack Hussein Obama Jr. won't be president of the United States. And yes, I agree: let's get his name absolutely correct. His middle name is "Hussein."
Comment: You liberals should wake up. As long as your attitude is let the "other guy" pay you will never get further than your 50k a year job and 40 hour work weeks. Punishing others for their accomplishments does not work. That's the basis of Osama's economic policy. It's not Osama's color, is that he is one serious loser who doesn't know what the hec he is doing. His Biden pick shows that he needs a good daddy to be by his side.
Comment: You retard obama liberals, will always just stay where you are making your 50k a year and working your ass off. The mindset of having the "other guy" pay for you just doesn't work. wake up.
Comment: The race is tight at this time. However, by October Obama will be trailing significantly and come November he will lose big time. The Dems made a terrible mistake in promoting the empty-suit-and-excess-baggage-laden Obama towards nomination. The political inneptitude of the DNC is beyond belief.
Comment: Regretfully I have to agree with you. The DNC pushed for Obama from day one, because Dean hates the Clintons. So did Pelosi and the whole anti-Clinton wing of the democratic party. I am afraid that they will reap what the sowed, by picking Obama against the will of the majority of the democratic party, and we will end up with 8 more years of republican presidency . It will be a shame, we deserved a much better candidate
Comment: Based on Sen. Obama's opposition to the Born Alive Infants Protection Act , I cannot support him for POTUS.
I will now be supporting the McCain campaign. My full statement is on the Decoding Neck-and -Neck article here on Newsweek.
Ms. Clift you seem to be promoting Obama for POTUS so I challenge you to inform yourself on the Born Alive Infants act and Obama's position on it and then write an article on how you can support someone who thinkss it is OK to allow an infant to die after it survives abortion. That in my book is murder of a baby by withholding trwestment.

Comment: to mark/ Lori's right! Your answers are a smoke screen. Maybe your mother made a mistake having you. At least you had a opportunity to have life, grow up and live. Justifying Obama poor judgements, half-truths, and mistakes to be covered up by libs like you is sad. Life is life. Baby are innocents. May God forgive you libs for your decisions.
Comment: Not that I needed another reason but yeah I agree....Obama still won't get my vote.

Comment: A * WILD CARD * for McCain ,would be to completely surprisise, and actually WALK the WALK of the *MAVERICK * ,it would sure throw the U.S. in another excited frenzy,if he could a "organized, buiseness, diplomatic, **** WOMEN **** who can also feel right at home in a pair of * ARMY BOOTS * ! Talk about a MEDIA BLITZ,and all the high ratings due to all the contraversy, and the women voters feeling VINDICATED !
Comment:
Here's some "perception" for y'all:
Are you ready - for the Really-Really Rich REPUBLICANs ... AGAIN?
McCain - Insanely Rich, yet still collecting Social Security.
Out of touch, but not out of Ready Cash and Tons of Assets (some say 10, others say 8, Obama says 7 HOMES, just for starters).
$600 Gucci tassled loafers with his silk-pocketed dockers to see the Dalai Lama -- Haute Couture of the Country Club Class.
Bushes. The Final Frontier - To Boldly Go Where No Man Has Gone Before: Two serious BANKING SCANDALS in just three Administrations (12 years), HOW MANY CORPORATE SCANDALS (Enron alone permanently altered a whole trading industry, but then there was Worldcom, Tyco, so many others -- and so MANY PEOPLE, ORDINARY AMERICANS, WHOSE STOCKS BECAME WORTHLESS OVERNIGHT) "NO NEW TAXES" (AND WE ALL KNOW THAT STORY), THREE OR FOUR WARS (DON'T FORGET MOGADISHU) -- and still going strong in some pockets of this country. Unbelievable.
Bushes - the sponsors of Hitler during WWII -- from Wall Street to HimmlerStrasse - mit Liebe.
Mere "celebrities" like Obama and lesser mortals are apparently disdained, looked down upon, by these super-elitists like Bushes and McCains (and ROMNEYS -- also in this super-elitist class of Uber-Mensches) who are worth, individually, at least $100 million a year in personal wealth. But not social security from the Government - that is definitely worth pocketing - it's about milking the country for all it's worth.
Are you ready for the ULTRA RICH Republicans? I sure hope not.
Let's turn this tide in our favor - fight for the Democrats, Obama and Biden!
Comment: I cannot believe that these right wingers believe we will all fall for the cute little trick they use over and over and over again. You know, the old "I have been a Democrat for all of my many years, but I am voting for mccain this time" Oh yeah, we believe that's real. It sure made me change my mind! LOL
Comment: I really like Andrea Mitchell, she is special. Did anyone ever notice how much Joe Scarborough looks like her , just visualuize Joe with with a short blond wig.
Comment: I will vote for the person who will put more money in my pocket and that person is the Democratic ticket. I will not vote for the person who wants the rich to become richer and the mainstream to die in poverty. I now see why Mccain wants to give tax breaks to the rich because he is a very rich man. The tax breaks will not only benefit the lobbyist running his campaign but will also benefit him and Cindy and the club of billionaires. John Mccain, I will vote for the other guys
Comment: Republican say it's a tight race. Tihis make easier to drop votes on election night. It's harder to add votes. So Diebold machines will do the rest.Big Corp.can't afford to lose the battle to make American worker serf.Religion help this cause.
Comment: The Best Candidate is Senator McCain Substance over Shallowness!! Lifetime Service over A Junior Senator with NO experience. Senator Biden said it BEST: THe Presidency is NOT on the job training!! He also said it Best...about Senator McCain, He is Proud to be his Friend, and He would Be Proud to run either against him or WITH SENATOR McCAIN!! GOD BLESS USA!!!
Comment: And john mccain got his experience as president, when, again?!
Comment: ADVANCE COPY NOT FOR PUBLICATION UNTIL SATURDAY 10 A.M.
Barack Obama announced today that he will not choose a running mate. In An advance copy of the text of his non-announcement announcement speech obtained by this source, Obama will say, "After serious consideration, I have decided that I can not choose between my many good friends. . . The constitution does not require that I choose a Vice President. . . and this is a decision that really is above my pay-grade. Therefore, I have decided to let delegates to the Convention make this selection for me.
Comment: ivote2....What you wrote will never happen!! The BEST Candidate will rise to the TOP!! and that's Senator McCain!! GOD HELP US FROM OURSELVES!! Senator Obama's VP pick will be Biden whosaid the Presodency is NOT on the job training position, and who also said How prod Senator Biden and Honored he would be to run against John McCain, and how PROUD Senator Biden would be to run WITH Senator mCcAIN!!!! hE SAID IT not i...god bless usa!!!
Comment: The best candidate fr dog catcher maybe, but not for President
Comment: Yes, the slime will sling slime that is for sure. We need to be strong, and get that vote out EVERYWHERE, in every hamlet, in every town, in every city in EVERY corner of this country. Change this country finally, finally finally our national nightmare COULD be over. We need to want it, we need to pursue it we need to be tenacious and NEVER give in to the Bush, McCain Romney lies. Remember the lies and never forget never.
Comment: All of you INDEPENDENTS,please listen up!!!! The Repub's hate losing Power more than Satan did. Get ready for the worst smear tactics then ever befor.e Just be aware of their Hate, Prejudice and Karl Rove . The Conservatives and Neo-Con's despise everything that stand in their way. Just compare Obamas keen intelligence to McCains and his close family ties. Vote accordingly. The Knuckle Draggers are coming.
Comment: If some of you think that experience only is the criteria just remember Nixon, Bush#1 and now Bush #2and you will see the fallacy of that argument
Comment: You write:
"Mark Siegel, a former executive director of the Democratic National Committee, predicts Obama will win the election by 8 points with 350 electoral votes. "Write it down," he commanded as I gasped in disbelief."
Obama's credibility has been shattered by his own words. He is a gaffe machine. He has made more gaffes, and more pungent gaffes, than all other Democratic nominees since Adlai Stevenson. He might win. But he has demonstrated that he faces a really lengthy learning curve before he can hold the reins of the presidency.
Comment: I like 'em both. Whichever one wins, we'll be getting a president we can all be proud of. That wouldn't have happened if the Machine had gotten its wish. I don't know who I want more badly to win: John, to shut up all of the shameless age discriminators in the media and the general public; or Barack, to once and for all wipe the Machine and its wild-eyed, fanatical, totalitarian followers and political assassins off the map. Maybe we can elect one president and he will choose the other one for a high-ranking cabinet position, in one fell swoop peeing on all of the loathsome creatures listed above.
Comment: "McCain is a far more plausible candidate at summer's end in part because he has sanctioned a sharply negative campaign against Obama."
This is wishful thinking, Ms Clift.
Comment: Eleanor,
This was a very astute article, particularly the last paragraph. The ground game is indeed key. I wonder who will prove to be the better quarterback? My non-partisan money in on Obama. - he's the one with the organizations in Georgie and Alaska and Iowa etc.If McCain's going to win this one it'll have to be through the airwaves ...
Comment: I thought that the introduction to your last paragraph said it all, "Obama's ground game is key."
I firmly believe that this election will be settled by the ground game in the nineteen (!!!) swing states.
i am intrigued to hear reports that states like Alaska and Georgia are currently not covered by the Reps. It makes me realize that there is a whole other aspect to this campaign aside from Saturday night tv debates (who has tv anymore!)
Comment: It's strange to see that NO ONE here sees just how similar Obama and McCain are. They are both rich, both in love with power, both puppets of huge corporations. I want a real leader that actually represents the people of this country and not just it's big business! Nader is the man for the job and he is pulling 6% with absolutely no coverage. That alone should be making people wake up.
Comment: Yes, Senator Obama made money with his books which he paid back his and Michelle's college loans and with the rest he bought a house. In one report I read that Obama was worth around $750,000 hardly wealthy in McCain's eyes. Please remember that McCain's campaign is loaded with neocons who would love to attack Iran so people wake up, we know how wrong the neocons were about Iraq.
Comment: Obama and McCain are the same in that the news media picked them. This is going to be exactly the DNC and RNC candidates the news media wanted to see contesting each other. And in exchange the mainstream news lost it's credibility.. but small lose! And they may lose their dream for an Obama victory, too.
Comment: It's funny when I see conservative people start to run scared. They don't really make sound arguments and begin with the ad-hominem attacks. On the other hand, when liberal people start running scared, they gush incredulously about the positives of their candidate. It is simple. If people want to follow in the footsteps of Bush, then they will vote McCain. If they want to re-evaluate the direction of the country, then they will vote for Obama. But come on, posts like ???Bitter much!??? and the whining like, ???Obama said this and he may do something different???...pffft...you probably think you???re a good driver too; and, let me see, ???gee, the Obama needs help orating problem. I don???t believe that will be a problem, but keep believing it. No wonder people can???t get anything from their government; they have no idea how to use information to solve your problems.
Comment: It's funny when I see conservative people start to run scared. They don't really make sound arguments and begin with the ad-hominem attacks. Then we have cobalt6 whining, ???Obama said this and he may do something different???...pffft...you probably think you???re a good driver too; and, let me see, Sojourner-PA???gee, I don't know did you need a teleprompter to come up with the witty repartee???no???well maybe next time you should use one. Why not use facts posit a claim and defend your stance with a good argument. No wonder you guys can???t get anything from your government, you have no idea how to use information to solve your problems.
Comment: "..It's an article of faith in the Obama campaign that standing side-by-side with McCain for 90 minutes will be the great leveler, the image that could seal the deal for Obama just as it did for Ronald Reagan in 1980." What kind of crap is that? McCain had challenged Obama to a string of town-hall debates, which Obama agreed to and later changed his mind (surprise). With no teleprompter, Obama will look Bushlike.
Comment: Please keep it real, McCain can't even read from a teleprompter (watch all of his TV coverages). You don't have to like Obama and sure don't have to vote for him, but if you think that McCain is a better speaker, then we know you have not watch not one speach or debut. Lastly, McCain is not a Ronald Reagan in 1980 or NOW....
Comment: Have you heard McCain speak? He gives the same scripted answers to the questions he is asked. The debates should not have happened yet, since neither one are the official nominee of their party. Don't worry, McCain will get his chance to have his ass handed to him between now and November.
Comment: Hmmmmmm, I know alot of people with years of experience that I wouldn't let wash my dog ... take King George for example.
I find the arguement that experience automatically makes for the best President almost childlike. It would mean we should elect the oldest person possible every time. Ridiculous.
My Dad's frame of reference for the world is the 40's and 50's. Mine and McCain's is the 60's and 70's (when McCain should have been a candidate!). Sorry folks, but it is now 2008 and its time for the younger folks.
Comment: Compare the years of federal service of these two candidates:
[McCain 54, Obama 3]
Oh, all right, compare the total years of government service (including the state senate)
[McCain 54, Obama 11]
If that was the scoreboard at a football game and you were rooting for Obama, you'd be heading for your car before the third quarter was over. Obama has three years of Senate experience, eight years of State Senate experience, a big cheesy grin, a very slick speaking style, a magna *** laude degree from Harvard Law, a $1.6 million home, a closet full of $2000 suits, ZERO foreign policy experience, ZERO military experience, a wife who cannot hide her loathing for another race, a rabid preacher who cheerfully brags about his hatred for another race, a pair of unrepentant terrorists who launched his political career at a meet and greet in their living room, and a key fundraiser who was convicted on 16 felony counts related to political fuindraising. Let's be honest, Democrats. If the Republicans had nominated a candidate with that resume, you would never stop laughing. Daily Kos and Talking Points Memo would be on it like white on rice.
Comment: Groucho Marx CG YOU ARE SOOO CORRECT!!! I HOPE ALL AMERICANS WHO WILL VOTE GET ALL YOUR VALID POINTS IN STRIDE!! WE NEED TO THINK. IF A CERTAIN GROUP OF PEOPLE VOTED OVER 90% FOR ONE CANDIDATE BECAUSE OF THE COLOR O HER OR HIS SKIN, THEY'D BE CALLED RACISTS!!! AMERICA WAKE UP AND VOTE FOR THE BEST QUALIFIED, NOT THE SLICK SMOOTH OPERATOR!!!
Comment: When making a hiring choice one looks at experience and education.
Education :
Obama: Magna *** Laude
McCain: 984th out of 989th
Experience :
McCain at 54 years is at the same level as Obama after 11, hmm....
Remember that other Illinois politician with less experience than Obama. Hint - his first name was Abraham.
Comment: This isn't a game though. This is about our future, not our past. I am for Obama because he has not been in the government all of his life. You talk about Obama's expensive home and clothes, but ignore the fact that McCain and his wife are worth more than 10 time what Obama is. Michelle has never said anything that could be construed as racist, and neither did Rev. Wright. You also try to make it sound like a sin that Obama graduated Magna *** Laude (it is not a bad word, you can use it). when McCain graduated 5th from the bottom of his class at the Naval academy. As for the "unrepentant terorists crap. They were never even charged with a crime, much less convicted. And you keep bringing up Rezko, when McCain has associations to convicted felons too, Does the name Charles Keating ring a bell? So, comparing the two's resumes, I made a choice to go with the one I think would be the best leader of this country.
Comment: "They were never even charged with a crime, much less convicted." Incorrect, raddave. Bernardine Dohrn spent time in prison for refusing to testify against one of her co-conspirators. The only reason Ayers and Dohrn are not in prison right now is that an overzealous Justice Department botched the case against them. They brag about their crimes, and they're proud of the fact that they got away with their crimes. They set off bombs on American soil. They incited a riot in Chicago that left 63 people injured.

Let's be realistic.
Comment: The more people learn about EgObama, the more they are ready to elect him to be Katie Couric's replacement on the CBS Evening News as a talking head. While he will win that race, McCain will be our next president. The "smoke and mirrors" EgObama campaign is being "smoked" out as voters learn more and more disturbing things about EgObama.
Comment: Take your oh-so-clever name calling to the schoolyard with the rest of the 6 year olds, whose maturity level you reflect so well.
Comment: You mean more distorted things.
Comment: Don't forget that he only cheated on and divorced his first wife because she got into a car accident and became disfigured. AFTER she took care of him when he came back from POW camp. Sleeping around with a million dollar beer heiress because your wife got injured? Thats almost as disgusting as stealing a cross in the sand story and making up lies about while you were a POW because you've lost what patriotism you had.
Comment: Dreams on, sweet petunia. This party's nominee has no experience, no record of accomplishment, and lacks the trust of mainstream Americans. Potential VPs run from him to save their political careers. As a Hillary Democrat, I am appalled at the situation and lost opportunity for this party. Happily though, John McCain is what this country needs.
Comment: You are not a Hillary democrat, quit trying to convince people that you are. You are a McCain supporter who is trying to drive a wedge in the democratic party.
Comment: Blah. Blah. Blah.
Comment: Spoken like a true bush/mccain man You learned the "Blah" by lisening to them too much
Comment: So you are gonna cut off your toe nails to spite your face. You better rethink what you are saying.
Comment: Yes go ahead and vote for Mcsame Bush. Hillary and him have so many of the same policy positions. Oh yeah Mcsame is going to give you universal health care, middle class tax cuts, end the Iraq war immediately. Yes all the issues Hillary championed Mcsame Bush is advocating, so please support John. Its exactly what Hillary wants. Dummy!
Comment: As a Hillary Democrat, you are making a bad decision. Hillary and Obama's positions are quite similar, while McCain's policies contrast sharply from Clinton's. If your resentment is stopping you from voting on the issues, then you are not a real Democrat, just a sore loser.
Comment: Obama is not going to stop the Iraq war immediately either! The last I heard he was talking about at least 16 months!
Comment: The same timeline that Clinton was talking about. We currently have around 140,000 troops in Irag and there is no way you can immediately withdraw that many
Comment: This country needs 4 more years of war first, diplomacy second? Or is it four more years of tax breaks for the wealthy? Obama has more than enough experience, the trust of millions of supporters, and a great record in both the U.S. Senate and in Illinois before that. No "Hillary Democrat" would ever vote for John McCain.
Comment: I have voted Democratic all my life.........until this November.....no way i'll ever vote for Senator Obama.........FOR ANYTHING.
Comment: So suddenly after all these years of supporting Democratic issues, you choose not to support the Democratic nominee. What is the one distinguishing factor that makes Sen. Obama so difficult for you to support? On the issues he is the same as the others. What could be that one thing that makes it difficult for you to accept him? Shame on you.
Comment: Maybe this will change you mind. Ms. Pelosi (the Democratic Speaker of the House) said the other day that Senator Obama is a gift from God.
Comment: We all know by know that, when it comes to elections, TRUTH is not the strong point of you people. Just put anything out there, and hope that someone believes it. The same tactics that brought us bush!
Comment: She did not, stop spreading this bullshit
Comment: If you're voting McCain over Obama, then you're not really looking at the issues.
Comment: Since I'm making a comment on a "Newsweek, Eleanor Clift" article I will start out with "All hail The OBAMA" ,The ONE we've been waiting for" My second is an observation to the Super Delegate to avoid the train wreck and nominate Hillary at the convention. My next observation is in regard to the comment that McCain has gone negative....making fun of "The Obama's" celebrity and the fact that he blames working Americans for the energy crisis, and probably global warming, because the don't keep their tire inflated, is not really what I would consider very negative, especially when you consider "The Obama" trotting out the race card. Just because it blew up in his face after using it so much against Hillary doesn't mean it wasn't a sewer campaign tactic. As for Eleanor's observation that 90 minutes with the Obama on stage with McCain will be good for "The Obama" well Saddleback was close and McCain came out great and "The Obama' came out with "That's above my pay grade" So we'll see. And so not to offend anyone's religious sensibilities let me sign of with....."All Praise to the Obama, The ONE You've been waiting for"
Comment: Grow up. Clinton will not be the nominee. If you are still suffering two months after Clinton lost because she ran a flawed campaign then you are either a Republican plant or a masochist.. Just imagine how miserable you are going to feel for the NEXT FOUR YEARS when Senator Obama wins in November.
Good Luck with that!!
Comment: barack hussein obama, by the time the dem convention is over, he obama will be down by thirty points. there is no way this dude will beat john mcCain. i don't like mcCain, but i will vote for him (mcCain)come november 4th. america will be safe under mcCain's watch, i have no doubts.
Comment: That's right keep repeating his middle name, and maybe eventually we'll all be hypnotized. Give me a break, what difference does his middle name make? GROW UP!!!!!
Comment: Keeping us in Iraq even if the Iraqi government wants us out. War with Iran and possibly Russia, yeah I can see your point on how McCain will keep us safe. Kinda like Bush kept us safe on 9/11
Comment: The one thing you cannot bash Bush on is national security. Because the ineffectual Bill Clinton failed to lift a finger to stop the growing threat of Al-Queda because he was getting a laid, 9/11 occured. Bush has prevented another catastrophe with his policies. I will vote for McCain instead of the liberal wuss Barack Obama.
Comment: It is typical of you repugnants to try to blame 9/11 on Clinton, but he was out of office for 8 months when it happened and Bush got plenty of warnnings it was going to happen, but didn't do anything. You say that he has prevented another attack, but where is the proof? You repugs forget that it was eight years between the two attacks in New York because terrorists take their time and wait for an opportunity to strike.
Comment: Obama's ground game is key. The campaign has 150 paid people in North Carolina, a state normally out of reach for Democrats, and 14 offices in the Republican stronghold of Alaska, where McCain currently has none.
------------------------------------------------------------
Yes Eleanor, Obbama will have to try to buy the election.
Comment: i would vote for mcCain rather than barack hussein obama, americans would be save under mcCain's watch no doubt.
Comment: Don't you mean safe?
Comment: Yes, all of our soldier will be safely in a war zone.
Comment: I tend to believe that these polls may not be all they're cracked up to be.
For one, I've never polled nor do I know anyone who has.
A two, you don't know what the question are, and how they're posed by the pollsters. Peple talk about how many people voted for Hillary, well you have to remember that Obama received the 2nd highest amount of votes than any other candidate in history, and I don't believe that all of a sudden these people who were so passionate during the primaries, have all of a sudden changed their minds especially to vote for someone like McCain. As Gertrude Stein once said "there is no there, there"
Comment: Obama and Hillary split the popular vote. He did not come in 2nd. Of course let Hillary supporters tell it he stole the election. Sour grapes! If they want to vote for Mcsame Bush, go right ahead. Im sure you will get the universal health care Hillary championed. Im sure you will get middle class tax cuts that Hillary championed. Because Hillary and John Mcsame Bush have so many policy issues in common. Dummies!
Comment: During the Saddleback forum, McCain avoided imploding only by getting the questions in advance. Even so, his answers were simplistic, rigid, and rehearsed. Obama, on the other hand, was thoughtful, spontaneous and authentic.
The GOP creates a very low bar of expectations for McCain's performance so that he'll be sure to surprise people. Do we really want ANOTHER president who requires such low expectations in order to appear to "succeed"??
Comment: "That question is above my pay grade" Oh yeah very thoughtful and eloquent. He didn't give his honest opinion on aboration because he needs to appear to be both pro-life and pro-choice. I wonder what George Orwell would think about that. At least McCain had the stones to give a straight answer.
Comment: I guess it is all about your biases on what you saw. I saw a confident and seasoned McCain and an inexperienced and cautious Obama wanting to pick the right words to appeal to the center while not offending his base. Regardless, this is only style points.
I thought Saddleback clearly showed the difference in their position on issues.
Comment: Yes, it clearly showed Obama giving thoughtful, truthful answers and McCain giving canned speaking points and glib remarks.
Comment: Do you have proof that McCain had the questions beforehand, or are you just trying to spread lies? From what I saw, the answers given were clearly a reflection of life experiences. Senator McCain has had more life experiences to draw upon to know his answers. Senator Obama hasn't had as many, and had to think out loud for his responses.
Comment: Yes, the way McCain answered the three part question on teachers even before the pastor completed the first sentence, it was clear he knew the questions, at least some if not all, before hand. Further, in spite of repeated requests by the pastor, answers to most questions were stump speeches. If you resort to political pandering in response to questions on a faith forum, isn't your faith questionable? McCain's pandering is evident when he suggested David Petraeus name in response to the question on the 3 wise people he likes to seek political advice from. No doubt Petraeus is a respected war hero with great military strategy, but do you seek his advice on things like whether you need to go for war against a country or whether you need to build a rapport with your European allies, etc.? Obama's answers were based on deep analysis and consequently took a longer time. McCain's answers were, on the other hand, shallow and hence were quick. For example, on the question on the action one need to take on evil, McCain could think only of the obvious and suggested Bin Landen's name and started pandering. Obama talked about both obvious and subtle forms of evil and gave examples from both within USA and outside. He also took a moralistic standpoint when he told that we need to confront evil with humility because we could tend to perpetrate evil in the name of fighting it. Obama is more of an intellectual whereas McCain is rather pedestrian. Unfortunately, however, the panderers generally impress the general masses who outnumber the intellectuals, and hence McCain may have an advantage there. But that is a different matter.
Comment: jsacat1 must be on the pay roll of McBush or may be he has a right wing radio show...don't know but i will bet he knows how many house's he owns !!
Comment: Anyway you slice it, McLame is McRich and McOutofTouch. He can also be McConfused about geography which is might be problem if he McSaberRattles at the wrong McEnemy. He is also McGrumpy when you point out the many McInconsistancies between his McRhetoric and his McVotingRecord over the course of his nearly thirty year Washington political McCareer. Wake up middle class conservatives! you need to be making $ 5,000,000 a year to be McCain's McFriend. Do you think you can earn that after McCain reinstates the draft to keep you in Iraq (or maybe you'll have a chance to go to Georgia)?
Comment: I see a consistent pattern on this board and other similar ones.
Obama supporters use the space for name-calling and inuendo. Let's talk issues.
Comment: You have some missed all the cutesy names the mccain supporters come up with for Obama. Typical right wing tactic, though, engage in shameful behavior, then accuse the other side of doing it first. Let's get out of the schoolyard, and yes, let's talk issues. The more informed the voters are on the issues, the greater the chance of a big Obama win
Comment: I could care less who this mans choice is, the bottom line is I have serious doubts about his patriotism, his judgement, his character, his wife, his socialistic views, his friends, his true religion ,his real estate deals etc. This man is not qualified to be president, I cannot see how all these people and the press are bamboozled by this empty suit. He is a typical phoney Chicago democrat and that is not good. Wake up America and vote against Hollywood Obama.
Comment: I think you called names with faceless, baseless, answered innuendo. And Hollywood Obama? How about Mr. MCain? Anything shameful there?
Comment: The Obama game playing with the Vice President announcement is STUPID. It shows more of the childish celebrity play.
I would suggest he talk to Mark Burnett about the following concept after the convention:
* a Congressional Game Show for "To Drill or Not to Drill" with speeches, signage, and graphs
* a Reality Show for "Save the Fetus-Thumbs Up or Down"
* Mile High Stadium Gladiator competition called "3rd World Tyrant Negotiation"
* Democratic "Shell Game" Game - "Which War should be fight?" Not Iraq, Yes Afghan, Now Pakistan
* "What's My Line-Name that Radical" Ayers, Farrikhan, Rezko, Wright
* "Environmental Dunk Tank" Game for getting Carbon Credits for Hollywood jets - rights to dunk Gore, Pelosi, andReid

Comment: kas_wolf:
Point of fact; anyone of the following should have been a showstopper for his campaign:
Rezko and his support (bribes) to Obama
W. Ayers
Rev Wright (not the man; Obama's support of the theology)
M Obama's America hatred
Ill. voting record
Ill. live baby bill - and votes
lack of experience
lack of success as anything but a slick tongue.
The media is afraid of being accused of playing the race card.
Obama is where he is because he is black. Ferraero got it right.
Comment: The Republican Convention is in St. Paul.
Comment: Wow kas_wolf....it's amazing how many people are STILL so ignorant when it comes to Obama. The bitterness and pointing fingers show such a lack of open mindedness and understanding the diversity Obama has come from. The "hatred" of Michelle Obama...really? I don't think you've done your fair share of homework.
Comment: If you do your fair share of homework on Obama's economic policies, you won't be ignorant. He wants to roll back the Bush tax cuts for those in the top 5% of incomes (e.g., about $145,000 annually), and he voted for the Democrats' 2009 budget resolution, which would raise taxes on individuals earning $42,000 or more. Get ready to tighten your belt if Obama is elected!
Comment: Based upon 2006 data, the Top 5% of returns accounted for 36.66% of AGI and 60.14% of taxes from 6,786,000 returns. That means nearly 7 million "returns" averaged paying nearly $91,000 in federal taxes. With state tax, the total per return easily exceeded $100,000 in income tax.
The bottom 50% averaged $448 in taxes per return.
How much more do we want the top 5% to pay?
Comment: Obama in the house will bring this recession to a depression. His voting record speaks to itself. He is a nightmare.
Comment: Too true Rockies!
People, have you look at (in depth - and not an MSNBC story) Obama's tax away plan? Do you think Upper class starts at $63,000 for a couple? Obama does - because that is where the increases start.
Do you think the lower 50% of income earners in the country should pay virtually nothing in taxes and that the upper 50% should pay 90%? Then, those who pay nothing get "rebates" (handouts) and the rest of us twist in the wind.
Comment: And why shouldn't the upper 50% pay 90%, when they get MORE than 90% of the income?????????????????????????????
Comment: Mr. Obama has said on numerous ocassions that the taxes would be raised on individuals making 250,000 and above and to lie about it doesn't change the facts. If you want people to believe what you say, and take you seriously. Don't lie about something that can so easily be verified by a little research.
Comment: Elea, once again you in the MSM still DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON.No matter what any of you say,or in that matter HRC,I,personaly amot going to vote for Barrack Hussein Obara. He is a wonderfull guy but he does not have a clue about leadership let alone being the leader of the complicated, powerfull country on earth.Once someone is invested with that power,we can not take it back until 4 years later, and only God knows what someone like him can do with that power.e in mind his associations, his votes/no vote, his lack oxperiences, his background and mutch more things we do not know about him.Do not get me wrong he is closer to me than any African americans who are dying to vote for him;I am a naturilized us citizen from.............Africa!
Comment: you forgot one thing, there is a process called impeachment if something the prez was doing so outright dangerous. Remember there is a Congress and Supreme Court to add to the checks and balances.
Comment: Go back to school and take some grammar courses please. I don't understand a word you are trying to say, and I believe that reading your post has actually made me dumber for having done so.
Comment: Funny that you bring up the $5million is rich in America and you didn't bother to publish the entire quote. Obama has the media in his back pocket and yet the public is getting smarter about this joker.
kas_wolf has it right. I think the Dems are wringing their hands at this point and wishing they had Hillary.
Comment: I take comfort that Obama will be able to take all the negative crud the Repubs throw at him and voters will be disgusted. I think Obama will be a landslide winner. I agree that the thought of McCain for 4 years would be a train wreck and I am confident voters will come to that realization when they start to get serious about the upcoming electio
