So essarocket, I guess you are saying it is OK to exhibit unacceptable sexist behavior just so long as you advocate a liberal agenda. This sounds like the National Organization of Women's attitude during the many Clinton sex scandals that arose while he was President. Why do liberals have one set of rules for themselves but another for all the rest of us? Are you really condoning sexism? Where have you been for the past 60 years? If you are a woman, shame on you. If you are a man, I hope you are living in a monastery far away from civilization. Before you reply to this, you might want to pick up an equal employment opportunity (EEO) manual and educate yourself on what constitutes sexist behaviors. Once again this all sounds like politics as usual. It seems a majority of people are willing to talk about personality instead of talking about the all important issues we are faced with thanks to the current administration. Issues instead of personality, what a novel idea, issues like the economy, energy, the environment health care, education, the deficit, etc. all the issues that this current administration has decided to ignore. So I guess if those voting for McCain are once again electing on personality (i.e. someone I would like to have a beer with instead of someone who thinks through the issues), instead of change then McCain/Palin are your candidates. And to that I say shame on you for electing someone that is spiteful in their campaign and somone who avoids the issues of this country. If you support McCain/Palin and they happen to win then you get what you deserve - if this does indead happen then as a pre-cursor to all those whiny right wing supporters it is not Congress' or the Senates fault that we have fallen further into the abyss but the Republican leadership that has once again been elected on personality.

Obama???s problem with women goes beyond the current lipstick controversy. I think he has a real problem with women in general. He throws grandma under the bus calling her a racist; he calls a reporter on his plane "sweetie"; he puts his chances of winning the presidency in jeopardy by passing over Hillary for VP (an obvious choice); he unleashed his attack dogs on Sarah Palin before he even knew who she is; and now he makes a completely stupid and unnecessary remark about pigs wearing lipstick. America is finally seeing the real Barack Obama and we are finding that he lacks the judgment, experience and emotional maturity to be President.

I'm with you Middle america. Let the record speak for itself! I have heard Obama speak about what he would do about the economy and insurance for everyone. Do I believe everything I hear? and only half of what I see, but I have to believe in someone and it is not McCain or Palin. Some of you mention "experience" There are some of the candiates that have scades of experience and some who have not been office all that long. It depends on how strongly a candidate feels and that comes across with everyone who has come in contact with the candidate. I don't want to belilttle any of the candidates that is futile. But more of the same if a for sure thing out of McCain and Palin which equals "Bush." What is the excuse for "Bush." He was a govenor and people want to say Obama has no experience. Then how did Bush get elected. Was it majority bote or deception? No one can deny after seeing the stock market today on retail sales that Bush has certainly done a disservice to our wonderful country.

Read My lips, there is not way a Black man, can become a president in this country; In the company I used to work for, there were 500 hundred people, and I used to hear, how bad those people use to talk about any black candidate, that was running for office. I rember that; when Jackson was running in the primaries to be a candidate for the democrats, 95 % of the people in that place, use to say horrible things bout him. I remember, many od them saying, "if a Black becomes a president in country, the lack people are going to take over the whole country". I remember, the bad thinngs the white people, use to say about the balcks. everi-time a black person was hire by the company,.Out of the 500 people in that were working in that place, in the year 2004, when I reitired, about 425 of them were white; but, when the company did hire a black or a hispanic, the white peole use to get very sad, so is this happend in one company of 500 employess, what you think is happening in the whole country. I am a white hispanic; and think, that because of My lite color, averybody think I am a white from the states, and this is why they say all this thongs in front of Me, they think I am one of them. I also remember the bad things this people use to say, about the hispanics, and what realy bothers Me; is, that the mayority of them, use to call them-selves good christian, I think they forgat, that racism for God, is a sin like eny-other sin. I know, that the media think, that racism don't exist in this Country, but I know that there still a lot of racism, more than what the mayority think is, this why I know, tha there is not way that Senetor Barak Obama, will win this coming elections. Believe, as a christian, tha knows that to lie is a sin, I am telling you the whole true, racism in this country will never end, becasue many, that claim not to be recist are the first ones to practis racism, and even more, the mayority of the people that claim to christians, are practicing racism, becasue I have seen in in some of the christian churches that I have visited.

Not only is it time to update this column and appears we need to update and educate some of the people commenting. Some of you have our secure future mixed up. McCain is the same not Obama. We already know what he and Palin will do; more of the same; 4 to 8 years of Bush!! At least Obama does have a program behind his promises. McCain just mouths it. More of the same of the economy being ruined, if it can get any worse. More of the same on h ealth care and the lack there of. More high fuel prices. People look at what a mess Bush has gotten us into. Do you actually think our country can stand any more. It is 9/11 today is Bush still reading the book "Clifford, the Big Red Dog". I have been called liberal just because I say what is on my mind and how I feel about my country and not wanting it and our soldiers to go on suffering the way they and it has. This is called freedom of speech. The last time I checked we have the right to say how we feel and how we would like to see our country safe and our soldiers brought home now. If Hillary Clinton had won the nomination I would have definnitely have voted for her, but Obama and Biden are the next best thing. Palin really is an extremist and it is very scary to even think of her running much less her getting in. She acts lilke she is running for Presidennt. But, then McCain has had several bouts with Melonoma and she may very well end up being the President. Thank about this people. I appreciate what McCain did for his country and have not doubt he loves thhis country. Had he got the nomination 8 years ago as opposed to Bush I would have voted for him. I heard him speak in Washinton D.C. and really liked him. As all of seem to do at a time later in life he has slowed and is not as apt as he was then. I wish and pray the best for my country.

If he wins, Obama will change the direction of the country to.... He will change it straight into the whiny-can't-defense-yourself, backstabber, socialist europeans. Michaeal Moore will become the secretary of inferior and he will change US health care into Communist Cuban style health care....

Obama represents more of the same old party politics that have gridlocked Washington for over two decades. McCain and Palin are the real purveyors of change. Boy are they going to shake that place up. Maybe when they are done reforming Washington, they can do something about the leftist media.

Comment: I would not ever vote for Ms Palin. She does think, key word being think, there is globing warming and yet she lives in Alaska. She is a very scary individual. She acts like she is running for the oval office. She totally emasculates McCain and he lets her. She is such an extremist. I was married to a retired master sargent who was in the Arm; 101st Division; Screaming Eagles; He served his country for 26 years. He was in Korea and Viet Nam. He never saw the need to talk about his experiences. He just went out and devoted his time to trying to make things better in the Stae of Ky. and other states for Veterans Nursing Homes, Veterans License Plates, and better health care. He died chairing a meeting for Veterans causes 9 years ago. He did not have to talk about his service time like McCain seems to feel like he has to. It is all appreciated, but that does not make for the United States a presidential candidate much less a president. We need to be looking at what is needed to rebuild our country after the last 8 years. People can fuss all they want about Bill Clinton. He did a lot of good and balanced the budget. Bush has only made it worse. I do not want another 8 years like the last 8. Come on people open your eyes. The fox is in the hen house again. Palin will want to run the oval office. She is too pushy and arrogant. She is an extremist. These views are my own personal views and I have the right to them. America, Wake the hell up! Sue

Comment: I am a white/native american female. I am 63 and definitely have a mind of my own. People talk like "white women" are being drawn like cattle to drink in all Ms. Palin has to say. "Wrong"! I will be voting for Obama/Biden because I feel they address the issues and I sure do not more of "the same." Its about out country and rebuilding it. My husband was a 26 yr. retired master sargent. He would have a few thing to say about Palin if he were still alive. He served his country just as McCain did, but he never talked about Korea or Viet Nam both of which he served in, it just was not his way. He served his country proudly. Palin does not think we have global warming. She is very scarey. Maybe she will take the bridge to "no where" and vanish. I hope so!!! Sue

The problem that I have is that many women believe that Hilary should have been Obama's VP, so they are so happy that the Rebubs have put Palin on the ballot. Many of these women will vote for the repubs just because of her, I say Women wake up!! You should not be making a decision based on the sex of the candidate, read the information that is out there, then make your decision. Women we have come a long way to have our right to vote, don't abuse it by not knowing the facts.

  • Posted By: Sophia1234 @ 09/08/2008 11:28:05 AM

I don't believe the polls for one minute! I am a Republican that will be voting for Obama. Palin is an extremist. The sad part is that a lot of people are actually are going to vote for McCain because of Palin. If McCain becomes president, these same people will be complaining when they see that nothing has changed and things have gone from bad to worse. McCain has voted with Bush! McCain is just like him. Do you really think he is going to change all of a sudden? NO, he will say whatever it takes to get the independent voters. Everyone needs to open their eyes and really look closely at McCain & Palin. Research Palins background! Don't rely on the media! Educate yourself!

  • Posted By: deminute @ 09/07/2008 7:07:50 PM

I am amazed that those of you that have always been democrats can possibly change after the last 8 years simply because of Sarah Palin. Are your beliefs so shallow that they can be swayed so easily? One week on the circuit and now McCain practically hides behind her.

    • Posted By: ebony @ 09/07/2008 9:09:54 PM

Please don't be fooled by thinking that their will be an influx of Democrats going to McCain! I have talked to so many people and none I know are swayed by her! I find that people that were already going to vote for McCain are just more excited about doing it now! Just look at the MESS the repubs are leaving us in!! Anyone that votes for the repubs are just crazy! I NEED HEALTH INSURANCE! That mess McCain is talking about is crazy! Wake up America, McCain really just does not get it!!!!

I DON'T UNDERSTAND? IF YOU ARE A WOMNA AND VOTE FOR MCCAIN THE RUNNING MATE ON THE TOP OF THE TICKET. DO YOU KNOW THAT HE DENIED EQUAL PAY FOR WOMEN? AND HE DENIED PAY INCREASE ON THE MINIMUM WAGE OR DO YOU CARE ABOUT THAT? I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW YOU CAN BE A REAL REAL DEMOCRAT AND JUST VOTE FOR A WOMAN JUST BECAUSE SHE IS ON THE TICKET? IF PALIN WASN;T ON THE TICKET WOULD YOU STILL BE VOTING FOR MCCAIN THE PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE NOT PALIN

I will vote for Obama. I did my homework and researced all 4 people on the tickets, and Palin is lying in 80%of what she said in her speech. She cut 62% in the budget for Special Education ( that was before she had her son) that probably will change now. She cut the budget to help teenage pregnant girls. She cut the budget for books for the library. She sold the plane with a broker and not on e-bay. She received 27 million dollars in earmarks for her town and over 400 for her State , more per capita than any other State in the entire country. She preaches abstinance, moral and family values. Are you kidding? What happened to start preaching to your own kids first. In the other side Obamas record is impecable, I am an independent that knows now who is voting for. One more time That this people talk about the POW I am going to go nuts. Incredible. By the way ,did you know that the person that wrote Sarah Palin's speech is the same one that writes Bush's speeches. SHAME ON THEM!!! Get new material please!!

I am Christian and believe that abortion is wrong, but just like Jesus, I wouldn't push my values and beliefs on anyone else. As a Christian, we have a choice in either accepting Christ or doing something else. Roe vs. Wade stands just as it has when Bush, Gore, Clinton, Bush Sr., Reagan, etc. debated it. Stop voting on one or two issues.
If 8 years of Republican ideology hasn't bothered you in some way, and you are willing to vote for another 4 years, then you deserve whatever economic woes that befall you.

She is servijng herself come through loud and clear.

  • Posted By: WomenForObama @ 09/05/2008 10:16:21 PM

The truth will be seen soon enough on Mrs. Palin... The McCain camp can hide her from the media all they want, say the media isnt being nice- but a spade is a spade- call it like you see it and the truth hurts.
She is a Christian Extremist- stating on video that "Iraq is God's War", trying to fire a librarian because she wouldn't ban books that Sarah Palin did not agree with, accepting Earmarks, Corruption Charges that she now has the McCain camp trying to get dropped, wants to overturn Roe V Wade and turn the clock back 40 years! The thought of this woman a heart beat away from the Presidency scares me to death!!
McCain sold his soul to the devil in selecting Sarah Palin- that is why the night of the announcement he received 10 million in donations (from all his Sure Christian right wingers) who bullied him into the choice. He wanted Joe Lieberman (aka the anti-Palin) but he knew the GOP would go into a revolt with a choice like that. It is disgusting how he is trying to ploy women but not let them in on her real "experience history", and her beliefs on Social Issues.
They can block the media all the want but it only makes them dig more- the truth will come out soon enough and the Truth will set America free so we can have the right man for the job, Barack Obama as our President!
Americans are so tired of all the Hate and Fear Mongering of the GOP- you all want a war so much why dont you all just go over there and fight that fight and let us live in peace! Better yet , make Alaska its own right wing, psychotic "Christian" country- and you and Islam can go at it all you want, will take the heat off of the REAL Americans who want peace, and allow us to find prosperity once again! Im sure Todd Palin would be all for that, and McCain could lead the troops with all his POW experience.
John McCain shoves his POW experience down our throats, yet barely even mentioned the veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan...why?? Well because he won't approve REAL benefits for our Veterans. Didnt you see all the protestors??
This whole GOP campaign has made me sicker and sicker- 8 is enough and it is time to for CHANGE!
    Obama/Biden 08

Sarah Palin is a Christian Extremist- and the truth on her will be revealed soon enough. That is why the base is so raring to go, but the sooner the information on her is released the sooner America will see just how McCain sold his soul to the devil (or the Christian Extremists) to try to win the presidency!
Why is it they won't let her speak to the Media on her own- if she is a Baracude, a Pitbull with Lipstick, then why can't she take the heat of the media...obama has withstood it against him and his family for the past 19 months- one week and she is in hiding... its because McCain wants to hide her beliefs on social issues... Iraq is "Gods war", trying to bann books from Library(umm freedom of the press and speech), wanting to overturn Roe vs. Wade, corruption, earmarks for Alaska... give me a break!! They are desperately trying to conceal the truth on her at all costs- the truth will set you free McCain, just admit it- you folder to Karl Rove and the Christian Rightwingers- for $$$ (10 million to be exact the night he made his announcement- wonder who sent that??)

You the media and your arragance, along with the Washington Beltway - "old boys club", just can't handle how one man, John McCain made you all look like fools with Sarah; for the first time in years I myself, along with America will be laughing at your arragance and disconect with the American people..Remember George Bush Sr.? When the media made an issue about the new technology with scanners and how out of touch he was... Well look in the mirror you fools.. you need to listen to the ground swell, but you can't... your out of touch with the people of America. Ask America how many people have a passport, ask America how many people have travel outside of their country or even outside their city or state.. Go into Michigan how about West Virgina, lets try New Orleans, while people of New York City and Los Angeles have not even left their own neighborhoods, should we go on you fools?! You are driving Sarah and the Republicans to victory.. If McCain/Palin wins; you than can scratch your head(s), with disbelief!

I agree would should raise the bar and talk about the issues that are affecting Americans, i.e. the economy, the war, health care, then environment, and our dependence on foreign oil. However, I don't feel that is power gathering when you try to hold a VP candidate totask on comments she made in her specch. She painted herself as a reformer that is out for the best interest of the people but with a little research I found that her state has theone of the largest pork barrel spending programs in the country. Also before she wa governor she was on record numerous times supporting the 'bridge to nowhere' , thankfully once she was elected governor and found the project to be unpopular with many taxpayers she decided to kill the project.

I have observed with sadness that racism and sexism have been on conspicuous display during the last few months. Barack Obama speaks of his mother as a "typical white woman." Hillary Clinton has been portrayed as a shrew and Sarah Palin's ability to mother her children has been called into question. I think that the American public would benefit from an exchange of ideas instead of race or sex-based attacks for the sake of power gathering. Both the left and the right share in this blame. Blind loyalty to party and blind hatred of the other end of the political spectrum is no more enlightened than the Kool Aid drinking in Jonestown. Let's raise the bar...

Give me a break on this Palin decision anyone with half a brain and their own opinion knows that McCain picked a candidate that is younger and a women to appeal to younger voters and Hillary's woman power voters. It is laughable that the republicans are trying to sell this farse, since when does being a member of the PTA, a mayor of +/-6,000 and a governor for 1.5 years qualify anyone to be VP. If people are satisfied with the current administration and the disarray it has wreaked on this country or you are currently among the wealthy elite in America getting your nice tax breaks, polluting the environment without a second thought then McSCain/Palin is your team. However if you are a middle to low income family that is ready for change that will involve tax breaks for working families, higher taxes for the wealthy, discontinued spending of $10 billion/month on a false war, alternative energy options, no old boy network or politics as usual, then Obama/Biden is the only choice! Don't take this decision lightly, your children's future and the future of many generations to come depends on it.

As far as Palin'e 'performance' last night it only proves that she can read a speech that has been prepared for her and deliver in the one liners (which unfortunatley has the feel of politics as usual), I believe she would be better suited for a comedy tour. I've heard how she of the people and that she has had a tough road, well felt sympathy or the concept of electing a president that someone would like to sit down with and have a beer does not qualify that given individual for the job at hand.

Sarah Palen says she can used to handling the good old boys club. it's evident she only handles them after she is ure her "good old boys" have tied them up and gagged them. She has only been nominated less than a week and is already screaming sexist and whinning about unfair coverage and she hasn't even been to one interview yet. This is the lady who called Hillary a "whinner" last spring. John McCain is using this woman to deflect any scrutiny people might be giving him over the next couple of months. Woman don't be fooled by "gidget", John McCain is the one who is running for president and the one we will have to live with if the wrong votes are cast.

Upon viewing Gov. Palin in her presentation last night, I reached a couple conclusions:
    a) congratulations to those speech writers - you have used your education well. The speech was well written - in terms of technically written (not as far as truth of content).
    b) if as a Vice resident you are looking for someone who reads very well, placing emphasis where needed, pausing to create effect - well then Gov. Palin did well.
Clearly then this is simply a case of saying what you are told to say - punctuated intermittently with a few personal 'anecdotes' and 'details' - but essentially the same rhetorate as a McCain speec - but I forget....it really was a McCain speech ...wasn't it!!!!
However, nothing that was said made me feel that this team would in any way lead differently to the existing team - and the fact remains that the US has never been in such a bad position. The people are hurting and are suffering - and this situation is getting worst. The US has lost favour internationally. What are the key differences in policy for governing this country, between the Bush administration - and a McCain administration? I keep looking and reading and listening....but I am not hearing.....

It is a sad day when someone who graduates 492nd out of 500 naval cadets in his class is trying to become the next president. Seems to fit the republican mold.

Its a sad day when a naval cadet graduates 492nd out of 500 classmates and is a presidential candidate and then shows his intellect by choosing a simpleton for VP.

Who Cares about Sarah Palin or McCain , Thanks to the Republicans Look at our Country Today. Bush has experience and look what he did. No Jobs , People lost their homes , The Republicans care about one thing Only , to get Richer. Republicans are so out of touch with American for Example look at Katrina in lousiana. Enough said. I Just think the American People are Smart enough to say we have seen it all in the Last 8 Years why put up with 4 More Years. It's a No Brainer. Obama will be President. Americans are just sick and Tired and need a Change.

I am listening right now to Sarah Palin's speech and heard Guiliani's speech earlier. Talk about mean spirited. To claim such wonder at McCain's service rings false when compared with the benefits denied the latest veterans serving our country. How can we believe there will be education available for all of our children when the vice presidential candidate has such little influence over her own family? I think actions speak louder than words. And Sarah, while definitely an attractive person with an attractive family and a very good fairy tale writer, is an actress with an ego unlike any seen since "W". As an aside, to hear the Republicans cheering such a fairy tale is most disheartening. Attacks on the opposition while touting how wonderful they themselves are serves to add to the divide which has so marked our country for the last 8 years. God bless America, please!!!

The left chose this obama over HRC and no response from the koolaid drinkers. diane... you fear this woman. She is successful. Happy. Great Family. She did not buy into the feminist movements lies and knows how to think rationally. She did not but into the "left will take care of all your needs because you're dumb to take care yourself"! Diane take your un happy life and become more self reliant... like Sarah Palin.

get your head out of the closet! Look at today's youth and remember your youth. I am talking from experience. I worked in a family planning and teen clinic for years as a licensed nurse and can't begin to tell you how many teens come in beaten by their parents because they had a small mishap and was pregnant. at least her mom is being supportive of her and cares deeply for her. obviously you either were not loved and supported by your parents when you made a mistake or you've never been young. You are obviously supporting a candidate who was a result of an indiscretional moment when his white mother had intercourse with his black father.

I read your comments with sadness. Perhaps some day in the future, a baby will be able to decide beforehand, who their father will be, and who their mother will be. However, at the moment none of us can change what combination of male and female brought us into this world. You have really stooped very low with your comment about Sen. Obama's parentage and that is so sad. If only we could all comment on the things that can be changed, rather than on the things over which we have no control - and don't you dare accuse me of being a supporter of either one party or another.

Y585 and your point is?...I agree that babies are innocents and should not be killed. But the facts are that his 18 year old mother believed the 60's pop culture and made a mistake. She should be forgiven and now today, her son is a step away from the POTUS. As the child of Sarah Palin, we must forgive her and stay away the negative media hype. God bless, MC in calif is speaking from experience and you, sadly are speaking from mis-guided emotion. Without being condescending, try to think rationally and either choose 57 states barry or a strong diligent woman. You should be proud, but your liberal mindset has labeled her an republican and you ... then close your mind to Sarah's possibilties. I thought women wanted strong women to succeed. The lib media sunk HRC and now they are after Sarah. You might be next.

Her story anout her family is not that unusual. I have worked as a nurse in both family planning clinics and in teen clinics for many years having been a licensed nurse for over 35 years. I have seen many, many teens in the same predictaments as her daughter. In fact I can't begin to tell you how many young ladies have come in actually in the process of giving birth or whose families come in with them and they wind up as abused teens that have lost the baby because of the beating received from family or their families accepting the baby as she does. I wound up in the same predictament with my daughter only she was 19. this is a new century get your head out of the closet and become more aware of the youth in this country. Not to mention Obama's mother was 18, single and pregnant by her black lover.

Can't you hear how racist you are? Would you applaud Obama's mother if she were like Palin's daughter who got pregnant by her White lover? She is being hailed because they plan to marry in the future. He has said he did not want children. This changed in the face of nation-wide scrutiny. What are the chances that he will be a good father or husband? Nil. If her lover were Black, would you put a positive spin on that? I doubt it. You would probably assume he forced her.

If you are willing to vote for another 4 years of Republican ideology after all that is transpiring in our country, then you deserve whatever economic woes that befall you. Let go of your pride and ego.
