I was a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton, and was disgusted at the manner in which I believe the DNC and party elite did everything in their power to assure the nomination of Obama. I have never voted for a Republican candidate for President in my life, but I will be making an exception this November. As for McCain, I don't support him to the same extent that I did Hillary, but I believe that we are, as usual, in a "lesser of the evils" election. I have studied both candidates, including Obama, his position, his associations, and his background extensively, and I simply do not trust him. In my view, Obama lies or twists the truth almost every time I hear him speak (which is very reminiscent of George Bush, for me). His lack of experience is evidenced by the number of times he has made naive statements about government and foreign policy, only to flip-flop to another position when his position is shown to be unpopular. Finally, I have been strongly against racism my whole life, and the fact that he attended a racist black liberation theology church for 20 years, and considered its racist pastor to be his "mentor and spiritual adviser," does not set well with me at all. So, is McCain the candidate I would have preferred? No. But he is in my view a much better choice than Obama.

There was legislation passed that funded low income housing developments and gave them tax credits worth millions of dollars. At the time Obama was an attorney for the firm that did Rezko's legal work. The projects build or rehabbed by Rezko have in many case been boarded up, condemned or foreclosed on. When Rezko needed money to help Obama get the dream house Michelle wanted, (right across the street from the Rezko's) he called his friend, Nadhmi Auchi, a cousin to Saddam Hussein who made the loan for 3.5 million from the coffers of GMH. General Mediterranean Holding (GMH) routed the loan through a Beruit bank account for Panamanian Fintrade Sevice SA. The houses McCain "owns" include the homes own by his wife's trust and are the homes lived in by relatives. Yes I wish that I was that rich! But I wouldn't want one house that linked me to a good friend who is a corrupt fraud, slumlord, and has ties to so many corrupt friends. Rezko made some 26 trips to his home country of Syria during this period. I wonder if some of the money he took from our government might be there. Maybe Obama should ask them to give it back so that we can fix some of those Rezko projects up and people will have nice places to live in the district that Obama was to supposed to represent as their state senator. They still have a housing problem. He didn;t fix anything.

I don't think anyone is snearing at McCain's POW days. Most people believe that he was courageous and brave during those five and a half years of his life. However, my personal feeling (I won't pretend to speak for anyone else) is that those five and a half years do not give him license to do whatever he pleases for the rest of his life and they certainly do not entitle him to the keys to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The bulk of McCain's military experience is those POW years. He has no strategic command experience. As a prisoner, he had no knowledge of the political envionment in which that war was fought. And his lack of experience in those areas shows today as he throws out the same answer to every foreign policy problem: bomb the bastards. He was a child of privilege. He partied through his youth and young adult years (until his capture, of course) and when he was released, he picked up the partying without skipping a beat. He's financed his lifestyle by divorcing one wife and marrying a younger richer trophy, whom he's been known to mistreat in public. His out of touch with his own financial picture, which indicates that he can't understand much about the financial problems of workaday people. His preference is to extend benefits to the rich and to corporations, while denying them to veterans, seniors and children. Although he once dismissed evangelicals in politics, he now courts them and panders to them. His position on reproductive rights indicates a profound mistrust in the ability or integrity of women to make reasonable choices. His memory is slipping and he often misspeaks. I don't begrudge him a single military award he may have earned for his years in the Navy. However, I don't think he has said or done a single thing that would merit electing him to the presidency. On the contrary, I think he would be an abject disaster for the United States of America, and perhaps the world.

I DO MOST FERVENTLY 'BELIEVE IN' MICHAEL MOORE'S DOCUMENTARIES, AS DO MANY PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE WORLD. Without such humor and candor, we wouldn't have a truly democratic society. Moore's films show courage and a lot of common sense - and debunk a lot of dumb myths about health care and Bushes, as well as GM and gun control (which we don't have).
Y'all are part of a shrinking minority here, not the majority any longer - glad to say! ;-)-

notroubleatall1963 -- Did you get past middle-school? I mean, I know alot of IV drug users that believe Mike Moores ***... but I've never experienced those dim-wits up-close. I don't mean to overstate how fictional his fictiopns are... but they do speak for themselves!!!! Please, get a GED at least... and read-up on politics for the next 15 years... I will surely listen to you then.

He's a convicted felon because he was found guilty of extorting money -- a lot of money -- from people who wanted to do business with the State of Illnois -- a form of influence peddling. He also was convicted of mail fraud, money laundering and bribery. But the charges and the conviction had nothing to do with Obama or with the purchase of his home. According to the Chicago Tribune of June 4:
"Witnesses against Rezko claimed his alleged schemes involved a host of political insiders from both major parties. Among those whose names came up repeatedly during the trial were Chris Kelly, another top fundraiser for (Gov.) Blagojevich; William Cellini, a veteran Republican power broker; and Robert Kjellander, the longtime Republican national committeeman from Illinois.
"Rezko befriended many Illinois politicians and was a major fundraiser for some, most prominently Blagojevich and Obama. The criminal charges against Rezko had nothing to do with his connection to Obama. "
It seems that Mr. Rezko was an equal opportunity felon -- he played both parties. But, there is not now, nor has there ever been, any evidence that Sen. Obama was involved in any of his illegal scheme -- as much as you might hope and pray otherwise. But then I don't suppose you'd let a little thing like facts interfer with your prejudices.-

Mimi - the Rezko Rage is all because McCain is actually the one with the criminal record (or damn close to one) in his role helping the Keating Five during the last Bush Administration in the 1980s.
Funny now that Bush Jr's in the White House these last 8 years, suddenly we've got another MAJOR BANKING / MORTGAGE CRISIS on our hands.
How much money do these Conservative Elitists need to fuel their greed? Boy, give me a "celebrity" like Obama any day of the week - at least he's not completely CROOKED and a proven criminal like some of the Bushes and like maybe McCain is - how much money was he able to stash away secretly during the 1980s??? We'll never know, I guess. How convenient for the rich rulers of Wall Street that are the Bushes.

Doesn't McCain have a proven criminal record dating back to the Bush Sr. Administration for his role helping the Keating Five in the S&L scandal...? How can he claim all sorts of mysterious, shady dealings of Obama's with Ayers, for example, when it is HE in fact who was guilty by association - with the Keating FIve, who were convicted.
Wonder how many millions McCain secretly stashed away -- making money off the average Joe in the mid-80s during the S&L crisis? Interesting that Bushes were in power then too - and Neal Bush, W's bro, was up to his eyeballs in the deals (and probably stashed some big bucks away too)... thanks to his daddy, Bush Sr., our then-President.
Is there any connection, now that W's in power these psat 8 years, to our current banking and mortgage crisis, soon to be a major credit crisis? ..... Put two and two together (Bushes, that is) and you'll find a McCain lurking in the background, waiting in the wings, ready to pounce and secure his profitable future.... no matter HOW OLD and RICH HE ALREADY IS....
