I think Obama is the change America has been waiting for. It sad that alot of people only see a black man running for president, instead of listening to what he is going to do for the country. IF america votes Mccain as president, then they may as well vote Bush in for a 3rd term in office

When will the American People ever ever WAKE UP & realize that the PARTY SYSTEM does not work, has never worked & continues to reinforce what is NOT A TRUE DEMOCRACY. Now looking at what we've got, Biden & Obama WILL be a WELCOME CHANGE as 'Democrats.' Now lets QUIT THE DENIAL ACT by 'Republicans' which has been CHEATING & KILLING this country for decades! Look hard at the last 8 yrs & for once SEE the condition of our country. Since 'parties' are in reality 'religions'......the only way to stop these RELIGIOUS PARTY WARS is to ABOLISH ANY PARTIES & MAKE THE PEOPLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, THE PARTY THEMSELVES. Campaign Reform could then come about with individual voters actually doing their homework by reading the 'congressional reports' & voting directly on the internet the candidate of choice. SO KNOCK IT OFF AMERICA with your CONTINUAL BIAS & UNEDUCATED GUESSES. START DOING YOUR HOMEWORK & QUIT BEING INFLUENCED BY THE WORST ENEMY WE'VE GOT......LISTENING TO THE POISONOUS MEDIA! This country can do better than that, otherwise YOU MADE YOUR BED, NOW LAY IN IT!

I was understanding that Obama was for change so he picks a politician that's been wrapped up in politics and BS longer life its self. As far as war records spending time in prison does not make a president.
The hole lot of them need to sit down and think about what this country needs and its not some losy fast talking politician,

To all Hillary supporters, we need to stand behind Obama. He knows what he's doing. Hillary can do great things in the Senate. I've been behind Hillary too, but now support Obama as she does. McCain would be further disaster to America. Are you happy with the way things are?

    • Posted By: mdenver @ 08/23/2008 11:48:19 AM

I find it interesting the comment from the Hillary supporter that says" we need to stand behind Obama; he knows what he is doing." REALLY???????? What experience does he bring to the table that would create that level of confidence that "he knows what he is doing??" He was a state representative for 6 years, voted into he US Senate, served for the first year where he sat on the heathcare committee and then the second year of his term has run for President where he has voted absent for over 150 times.

If you were shareholder of a large multi billion dollar company that was wanting to see that company grow and prosper, would you want the CEO of the company to only have 1 year of experience?? Would you put someone in place that had never lead at the helm beofre and would just put your trust in him because he was smart and had a great smile. I think not.

I would have been far more comfortable with Hillary because of her experience than Obama, who is media smart and image driven but lacks the substance of really helping America understand HOW change is going to come about.

Wake up Hillary supporters. Obama is all talk but no experience to navigate the treachous waters in Washington.

      • Posted By: Dcowgirl03 @ 08/23/2008 1:00:04 PM

Yet, with all of this lack of experience, he soundly beat Hillary. If you took a look at the resumes of the current administration (Bush, Cheney, . . . ) and those who have served under this administration (Rumsfeld) . . . you would have a long list of "experience" and it has not had the best results. Even Hillary, with all of her experience, did not have the good since to recognizing that war in Iraq was a bad idea. I am ready to take my chances on inexperience and fresh ideas.

Where is "Change" now? Obama targeted Biden, Clinton, and Edwards on their Iraq votes and for being life-long politicians (not to mention PAC or lobbyist $$$- goodness!). NOW Obama & David Axelrod require experience: Biden. I like Biden (for Defense Secretary!), but Obama has done a 180 degree turn on his rhetoric of 'Change'. I wonder if Biden had to kiss Obama's "ring" for the position (Biden initially supported Clinton). Also, Biden said that he was "not the VP guy". Now, I initially supported Edwards initially due to his campaign in 2004, and once he was on Kerry's ticket (sic), he debated a fair "stalemate" against Dick Cheney. Since the affair broke (well, it's been known to the Edwards' since 2006) why such HUGE coverage now?? Maybe to get him off the VP list, but I wonder who helped push the media domino that disseminated the news so quickly (Axelrod?). What was Obama's start? "Community Organizer" = getting folks to vote for you in the future while denouncing other candidates via challenging any write-in signatures vying for the same position within the IL legislature and beyond. I'm not sure of Obama; he utilized tactics that helped him "win" the national Democratic nomination. Additionally Richardson, Biden, Dodd & Hillary Clinton have done more for the US than Senator Obama. Richardson had decent foreign credentials with the experience of balancing budgets & improving the lives of constituents. Senator Obama utilizes Axelrod's marketing company to enhance his image and to sway public opinion in his favor: http://www.nbc4.com/news/15616529/detail.html
You see, as a new member of the US Senate, Obama had 'no intention' of running in 2008: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A48523-2005Feb23?language=printer (but we know he was running since the 2004 DNC in Boston)
Lastly, for the entire 'lowdown' regarding this Democratic campaign, please review this: http://www.thecityedition.com/Pages/Archive/Winter08/2008Election.html
I'm not voting for McCain, but I might abstain voting in the presidential category for the first time in my Democratic life; the Biden selection will cause folks to say that if the Obama/Biden ticket doesn't win in November, it will be Clinton's fault (?!?). No, it will be Senator Obama's fault - the primary has been over (by the MSM and respective parties)- so if Obama cannot sway opinions about him (with a PR firm to boot!), the loss is on him. BTW, I'm African American!

Excellent post! Hey Braes, whether this so called Clarence Thomas is a GOP plant or a frustrated Dem, he/she made nothing but sense with everything mentioned. Also, if you (Braes) are African American, no problem. If not, your name calling (Clarence Thomas) is racist and you owe the African American community an apology.

What is next is the question? If Candidate Obama continues on his present course he will lose. If he shows us a new meaningful and intelligent approach in leading the US he may win. If it was about the VP Candidate determining a win or loss all you have to do is look at Cheny or Gore and both Billy Bob Clinton and George Bush II ran and won twice. McCain is an old hand in Politics and War Making. Since mankind's history is filled with wars, greed, overpowering the weak for gain, the future is clear whether we start it or the other guy does. I like Obama???s intelligence and style. I am worried about McCain's past ability to get meaningful bills he has sponsored to actually become effective. (He means well the bumbling old sweetie) McCain hasn't chosen his VP yet. (Hope he doesn???t forget too) So that is an unknown. I wish there was a viable 3rd choice. The real issue for us is our economy. Are we trading places with Russia? Russia awash in petro euros and the US in a record debt position. No money, no war.

  • Posted By: This is America @ 08/23/2008 11:35:13 AM

Let's look at the judgement of McCain as he had numerous affairs upon returning from the war. Then later started a relationship with Cindy while still married to his previous wife who had been crippled in a car accident while McCain was a POW. Are these the traditional family values that the conservative party is always talking about? McCain is an empty politician hiding from the past, always talking about his service to the country but not mentioning his lack of service to his original wife and kids. He does not deserve to be President of this great nation. He bends to the will of the Lobbyists that are weaved through his entire campaign. He got into politics to be self serving and that's why he put his family last and his own desires first. This is documented and can be checked out through many sources. He will get us into more wars, he will return us to the cold war state of politics and our economy will continue to suffer. McCain is not and never will be the right person to lead America into these new times. Wake up America and smell the truth.

    • Posted By: Jebber @ 08/23/2008 12:55:51 PM

Senator McCain acknowledged hwith dignity and regret the failure of his first marriage in the Saddleback "debate." Perhaps you didn't watch it. I also assume you did not spend four years being beaten in a prison camp, fall out of love, and return home a different person. You suggest McCain "bends to the will of the Lobbyists." You clearly have him confused with someone else, or you are a total idiot. It is your man, Obama, who carries the water for radical left-wing policies no matter how absurd. His policies favor unions and promise to socialize not just our medical system, but many other parts of our lives. Obama favors partial birth abortion . . . I could go on, but it would be a waste of time.

    • Posted By: mdenver @ 08/23/2008 12:07:13 PM

Hmmm...so I am assuming you voted for Bill Clinton in his first run for office, correct? Why not bring up the numerous, documented affairs Bill had prior to stepping into the Whitehouse? I am assuming like most voters, you knew as the press did bring it up. So do you only judge Republicans and not Democrats?

  • Posted By: Polyeurocalian @ 08/23/2008 12:05:23 PM

At the onset of the demoratic primaries, Biden was my initial pick for the democratic party. When he dropped out, I was a little dissappointed, but took it in a stride. I took an online quiz that matched the issies that were important to me, with the candidate that best supported those issues and Obama came up as my man!! I have been an avid Obama supporter since!! I have always hoped that he would pick Biden as his running mate though because of his diplomacy in foriegn affairs! When the President of another country blows off Your countrie's President, because he thinks he's a joke & doesn't respect him, that's when you know it's time to get someone in office who can help re-build those bridges. Joe Biden is definitely our man when it comes to that!! He is passionate, eloquent and will bring some much needed experience to the Democratic campaign for the Presidency. That, along with Obama's inspiration and ideas for "change" in this country, and we should have this thing in the bag!! (I'm not saying these are the only things that will clinch it, because there is so much policy I couldn't possibly discuss here, but foreign policy is a biggie and a strength for Biden, which I feel will help the campaign emmensely).

This country needs a change, and Senators Obama and Biden are our only hope. The war is breaking our financial back with very little positive outcome for our country. We have tens of thousands of injured veterans with substandard care, and Arlington is digging holes every day. The oil nations (including Iraq who we are helping) are experiencing unheard of profits in oil and in essence our enemies have won the war by breaking our financial back, with oil prices and their domino effect. Our schools are substandard and the $10 billion a month for the war can be so much better spent in education, health care, infrastructure repair, shoring up Social Security for our seniors, creating jobs in alternative fuels - I could go on and on. No disrespect to Senator McCain but four more years of the Bush philosophy will bankrupt America. We don't need a Rambo for President with a "lets get the evil guys" philosophy (we've had that philosophy for eight years) -- Let's have a President who understands that Americans need help and who understands that the economy has never been this bad except in the 1930's. We also need a President who knows how many houses he owns and does not think that the current American economy is fundamentally sound -- unless like the Republicans currently in office -- you are counting your Halleburten and oil stocks. I wanted Hillary to run. but my vote is soundly for Obama/Biden and so is my husbands. Our only hope is change and these are the guys that can start the process! They can't fix it overnight but at least they realize that we NEED change!

    • Posted By: torcom @ 08/23/2008 12:46:07 PM

Obama and Biden are not change. They are the worst of what this country has to offer. Tax the people into the ground so that the people can crawl to government with theis hand out for help. Bad policy for supposedly free people. The education system does not need more money thrown at it. This has proven to be a failure. What it needs is parents to be parents and an education system that teaches children to strive for excellence and not a pool of mediocrity where everyone is told they are as good as the next. The simple fact is that they are not and never have been. Social Security is so far gone, thanks to your tax and spend liberal buddies stealing from it pay for their pork barrell projects, that there is probably no chance of reversing it's decline. Were you around in the late 70's? If so you'd know that we are not that bad off now. Higher taxes does not create new jobs, it eliminates them. This comes from the fact that new businesses do not open when taxes are so penal that it makes old businesses close. The true fact of higher taxes is less jobs with way more lay-offs and complete shutdowns. If Obama wins, enjoy that little change left in your wallet.

      FRANANDLEO:

"Let's have a President who understands that Americans need help and who understands that the economy has never been this bad except in the 1930's."

I agree. The problem is Barry didn't even have the Economy in his top 3 when he was on The View at the end of March. He was running on Iraq...which is a complete fairy tale.

And lay off the barrybot BS: "I wanted Hillary to run". If you were a Sen Clinton supporter, you wouldn't say *Hillary* and you wouldn't say *run*. You would have said I wanted Sen Clinton to win. Spout barry propaganda all you like -- just stop trying to claim you are/were a Sen Clinton supporter.

    avondale -

You make me laugh. You start by sneering that anyone who doesn't share your narrow views of the world "really don't research these topics very well". Then you go on to bleat every liberal talking point in the book.

Don't you find it an amazing coincidence that your superior research has resulted in world view that is generic liberal dogma? Nah. Like most arrogant liberals, you lack the required self-awareness.

Keep on bleating out liberal propoganda and convince yourself that you came to those conclusions because you are so much better informed than the rest of us. In the words of David St. Hubbins, "I believe almost everyhting that I read, which I believe makes me a more selective human being".

    • Posted By: avondale @ 08/23/2008 12:42:21 PM

Now there's a well thought out and intelligent response. I talked about the criteria for a sound tax structure and why oil prices are up. And that makes me a liberal? Perhaps I am. I can only assume that the ultra conservative comment got you going. So can I you fall into that category. My challenge to you (since you really didn't raise any specific points) is to research the topic before you buy into one side or the other. If that's being a liberal, then yes I am and I hope everyone is.

  • Posted By: NotFooledByDistractions @ 08/23/2008 12:42:19 PM

This was a very "adult" and intelligent decision. If the perception is that Obama is short on foreign policy experience, selecting Biden was a home run. I think Obama could hold his own, but the perceived "experience" is an issue for many, so be it. Biden minimizes McCains "expertise" because Biden can more fluently and articulately express his views in an informed and confident manner.

There's no perfect candidate, but Biden comes pretty close. There's a lot of angles where biden will have strong impact.

    What an interesting background......

Failed his legal methods class in law school because he was caught cheating....
Drummed out of his run for the presidency because he was caught cheating / plagiarizing speeches.....
Spewed racist comments about convenience store owners and was given a pass by the media.......
And very strongly stated his running mate was "NOT READY TO BE PRESIDENT" on nationwide TV......

They just proved the point of "inexperience" by choosing the old white guy clearly as chaperone for the inexperienced pied piper of Marxism.

    • Posted By: mackie @ 08/23/2008 11:44:19 AM

You are so right. Obama's choice of Biden shows his hypocritical side. Biden wa shis worst choice. Biden called Obama inexperienced. How does he twist that around now?Typical liberal double standards here.Biden's racism is also a factor here. IF MCain or his furure running mate had said stuff like that, they wouldn't have a shot at the presidency. I'm appalled at the blatant hypocrisy of the democrat party. They are runing this country. Obama is a flat out socialist(like Hitler was) and Biden is an arrogant hypocrit!

      • Posted By: smashley @ 08/23/2008 12:31:20 PM

Unfortunately the democrats haven't had a lot of sway over our country for the last eight years. How exactly are they ruining it? I think it takes a lot of guts to choose someone who isn't exactly like you and can bring a different perspective to the table. We need to learn to be able to work together.

  • Posted By: funkdome @ 08/23/2008 12:29:20 PM

OK we've had the traditional lionization of the Democratic VP candidate. I guess next we move on to the traditional demonization of the Republican VP candidate.

The liberal media is consistant. I'll give them that.

    government hand outs.

Wow! that has to be one of the dumbest comment's I've ever read on this site. So, you'd rather pay taxes to let some moron sent our young people to get killed. Makes perfect sense to me. Why help the poor when we can just kill them off.

if you say obama is a socialist you don't know what a socialist is. and if you say hitler was a socialist, you don't know what hitler was, what a socialist is, or what a national socialist was, or a fascist for that matter. perhaps read some history books rather than watch fox news brainwashing to get some real information. that said, biden isn't a strong choice - very unpopular when he's run for president - different now?

    • Posted By: David T. @ 08/23/2008 12:23:32 PM

I read all these comments nad shake mt head. I'm 70 years of age and served my country in the military. IAs I said I read these comments and they are laughable. People are going to vote for who they think will be a qualified leader. I have seen presidents come and go. They all say one thing but once in office forget what they said and do what they want. I have not heard either candidate say how they were going to do what they say needs to be done. No doubt in my mind taxes will be raised. I already know who I am not voting for. Have a nice day.

The Clintons are ecstatic over Obama's pick of "Jawbone" Biden as his VP. A man who can speak eloquently ad-nauseam while saying absolutely nothing. The McCain camp will certainly exploit Biden's former prolific praise of McCain; his multiple assertions that Obama was not sufficiently experienced to assume the Presidency; and, who correctly noted that the White House was not the proper venue for Obama's: "On-The-Job-Training". The Clinton's, astute in the way of politics, will simply re-enforce their base of supporters in preparation for a now certain '08 bid. Greg Neubeck
