The measure of any good leader is the ability to see weakness and find a good way to manage it.
Obama did that with Biden. Sure, Biden is prone to gaffes but some of them are worth a chuckle--like I'm not the man. The harder he tries to persuade the press, the more obvious it becomes. Let's see how well Johnny Mac does with his pick. Get ready for one heck of election if you live in one of the undecided states. The television stations will perk of corporate earnings despite the poor economy.

    The worst possible choice......
The republicans are going to slaughter them in November. And if nothing has moved forward in the US for the past four plus years it is because we have a DEMOCRATIC legislature in Washington who can't vote a clean law....
Clinton wisely did not want to be considered because it is Obama's reputation and sleezy dealings that will all come to the surface... Their foundation is monitored by legislation AND ALL foundations are examined and looked into with a fine tooth comb by the government..... It this had been a question he would have used it during the primaries... HOW low to continue to attach Hillary Clinton, the foundation does lots of good, Obama and his wife have only taken money from sleezy sources, tripling the salary of her job when he got elected to the illinois legislature..... Blahhh
John McCain for President, a true patriot, a man who has ALWAYS reached across the aisle....

Don't you know your right to choose(ABORTION) will be gone if MCcain aka MCDUMAZZ gets in office. Go ahead and not vote for Obama and lets see how you feel when your told you have no rights when it comes to choosing. Let your racism for Obama cause you to make the dumbest ass mistakes of your lives not voting for him. The Clintons are the ones who screw you letting you belive that she had a chance when it was really over when Obama won eleven in a row during the primaries. And you think words like fairy tail and when HRC giving MCcain praises and herself and said Obama makes great speeches help her party. HELL NO she was helping herself. You are about the most shallow people that I have ever seen. How can you spend billions overseas to help others when you won't spend that money for poor and others here. They always want to come to rescue of others overseas HELL rescue people here. GROW UP you smell the B.S that has been thrown to you and stop thinking with your hearts and use your mind.

Senator Obama has picked a wise old soul and this is clearly indicative of Senator Obama,s willingness to have someone whos not only a decent man but also someone who will at times disagree with the Mr Obama

Senator Obama pick of Joseph Biden demonstrates Obama's willingness to pick someone who may disagree with him at times. Mr Biden is certainly a wise old soul. Any lack of experience on Obama's part is now a moot point.

    • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 08/23/2008 10:11:13 AM

I would like to be clear on what your saying here. McCain is too old, Biden is great because of his age. Right?

  • Posted By: marcopolo62 @ 08/23/2008 10:10:38 AM

What a joke, to pick someone who heavily critizied osama oops obama, then he said he would ot except the vp nomination. Well I guess I will switch my vote to mccain.

Senator Obama has made an informed decision, with regard to his choice in Senator Biden as his running mate. While Biden is often outspoken, he is knowledgeable and experienced in so many ways that can help Obama win the election.
Should the Obama-Biden ticket win, then I believe our foreign policy mess (read that anti-American sentiment) will give us a chance to re-join the world community, both in leadership and membership.
    This may be the P E R F E C T opportunity in two ways:
"Domestic policy fix by Obama, Foreign policy fix by Biden", all under the leadership of President Barack Obama.

    • Posted By: Bob2008 @ 08/23/2008 10:09:53 AM

HAHAHAHA! Maybe the other way around. This way it spells FAILURE! Obama just sold away everything he has supposedly stood for in the single most important choice as the nominee.

HIgh rish high reward Biden. Catholic and whatever Obama is. I am one of those sought after votes. I never vote the party but was leaning toward Democrat. I currently am leaning toward Republican. Obama has lots of rhetoric but no substance, no experience and not to be trusted. With the cold war about to return and the mess we have made of Iraq and Afghanistan I would prefer Obama be back in Illionois and not in the White House. McCain is the stronger candidate and would not back down by KGB tactits. Approximately 13 percent of the USA is African American and approximately 12.5 percent have voted for Obama. Simple math shows he needs approximately 39 percent of the temainding racial makeup of American to win. I hope that does not happen. I am sure because ot the racial tensions that have been brought on by both candidates, the media's....especially conservative talk radio.....win or lose Detroit will burn as it does each Holloween. Unfrotunately the vote will be determined by skin color and not by 'what is best for this country going forward into difficult times".

You sound more like a racist to me than anything else!!!

      • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 08/23/2008 10:09:31 AM

Well your certainly entitled to your opinion. But may I ask, what exactly did he/she say that was or sounded racist? What isn't the truth in his/hers post?

      • Posted By: Amma @ 08/23/2008 10:05:45 AM

You and McCain will end up killing us all. You have great illusions if you think we can win a war in Iraq, Afghanastan, Iran, Russia, Pakistan and all Muslims all around the world. There is no way possible we could survive - and we are all suffering economically because of this unlawful and immoral war. You may lucky encough to still have a job, but if you are running a business you are hurting. Banks are all laying off at least 20% of their workforce;, taxis, buses, trucks, transit and commuters are raising their prices, this impacts construction, retail -- everyone. AMERICANS ARE BEING DIVIDED AND CONQUERED. The white so called Christian racists who purport America is superior to all other nations, races, religions, etc. are delusional. There is good and evil in every race, creed and color. You, like McCain, speaks only of evil of the other side. But, if we cannot acknowledge our own limitations and weaknesses, we cannot improve and excel as a nation. Our great strength is our diversity. This is something you will never learn. But, since you think only about your own self interest then -- where do you think the money wil come from to fight Iran / Russia / Iraq / Afghanastan, etc.? China? Foreign debtors have a stranglehold of our economy, and like Hillary you want to keep fighting, keep spending and bring every body down the tubes with you - to support a fight you cannot possibly win.

The racist agenda, will doom you like it did the Nazis and other fascist. This extreme nationalism is deadly for all of us.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 08/23/2008 9:46:22 AM

The only racial tension is in the racist white people. I know, I am white and hear it a lot.

  • Posted By: Amma @ 08/23/2008 9:43:06 AM

What is important to all of us it that things get done!!! Personally, I may not prefer Biden, but i think Obama's choice is brilliant. Biden has the experience and good relationships with both parties that are crucial to institute necessary changes to move this country forward. Good ideas are meaningless if they cannot be executed. Or if you are stuck in gridlock, or spend most of your time defending your integrity.

America is diverse. We cannot shove a progressive agenda down the throats of conservatives with ideological debate. We need to find the common ground, and make compromises. I love Obama for listening to the views of all American people, his intelligence and abilities to size-up the various positions intelligently and compassionately. He also needs to be able to yield power. Biden is a power player. The fact is the White House is in Washington. American people set the mandate and apply pressure, but to effect change, it must also be instituted within the power structure. What good is a community forum when a war can be started unlawfully; when lies are told that cause the death, rape and torture of 100s of 1000s of innocent human beings Iraqi, American and otherwise - and no one is held accountable!? Unethical wiretapping happens legally or illegally. We speak against it, but are powerless to do anything about it.

The point being we have to effect change form without and within. And hold our business and political leaders accountable. Obama has the support of the majority of diverse American people, and Biden has the respect and power within the political structure. Barack and Biden together will get key things done one step at a time.

Biden is a man of integrity and speaks his mind. So he instills trust and is respected amongst Democrats and Republicans. Sure he may put his foot in his mouth sometimes. But, I like that he is honest and above board about his opinions, not a sneaking back-stabber.

Obama's respect with people at home and around the world, and Biden's foreign policy experience will re-establish our international credibility. America is isolated, and we have lost many friends. With McCains military preferences, we could end up in a war with Iran and Russia - and who would help us? McCain condemns China and Russia for aggression, yet wants to continue an unlawful and immoral war in Iraq! We are viewed as hypocrites on a global scale, and we look weak.

Obama / Biden have the moral authority and diverse constituents - not simply because Obama is black, but because he is progressive. They can bring American people together as necessary to solve our economic problems and reverse the rapid downward spiral of the Bush / Cheney / McCain agenda.

This is a winning ticket! And thank God, for we don???t need anymore dummies in the White House!

    • Posted By: TimB1 @ 08/23/2008 10:08:25 AM

Ditto!! Without the political knowledge and the experiences of Biden, I don't believe Obama would be able to work the changes that this country needs. As stated, no matter who or what party, the new leaders still have to work within the system. I also like the fact that you don't have to guess where Biden stands, he will tell you. Obama said he wanted some one to work with him, not hide in the background, and he has chosen well to achieve this.

  • Posted By: tomlgriffin @ 08/23/2008 10:07:48 AM

What happened to the idea of "change" It appears that Obama doesn't really want real change, if he had he would have taken the risk an asked Kane to be his running mate. It is going to be the same old thing again, and again.

Notwithstanding Biden's prior plagiaristic run for President, I thought he was the most knowledgable Democrat candidate. Obama should swap positions with Biden on the ticket. Obama's socialistic ideals seem more in touch with the views the former Soviet Socialist Republic than of America. Obama and the other Sociocrats should review the saying "give a man a fish and you feed him a meal; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life." For one, I am tired of the government giveaways that don't work. Giving someone something for nothing just leads to more people looking for a handout and not taking any responsibility for their own actions. As far as honesty and integrity go, how can someone who purchases property well below market value from a political fund raiser have the audacity to claim afterwards that in hindsight it was a mistake....it should have been obvious in foresight or present sight that it was a mistake and not an above board transaction. As far as being out of touch, maybe Obama should consider McCains definition of rich, that way Obama and his wife with over 4.3 million in income last year would not fit into that category. When I first heard Obama at the '04 convention I thought here is a guy who could go far. Unfortunately, he had a propensity to shoot himself in the foot every change he has. While Biden was probably his best choice, I just can't bring myself around to support someone with so little experience and expertise...he is not the reincarnation of JFK, who is probably remembered more for his violent death and for anything he actually did as President (does anyone remember the Bay of Pigs and what a stunning success it was?)

Calling Joe (wheres the camera) Biden "unassuming" is the most ridiculous statement ever. The Messiah and the Megalomaniac .

No, "Mission Accomplished" has that crap flat stomped. I also remember, We'll stand down as they stand up, Stay the Course, Cut and Run, Uniter not a Divider, Humble foreign policy with no Nation-building...
Come on, you Generally On Pills people better get your scripts refilled, this is gonna be a long hard slog.
(Ohhooohohooo, Long Hard Slog... see, it's even part of our vocabulary now.)

Barack Obama clearly has flaws and I'm not sure Joe Biden completely provides all of the answers to them. What a shock, though, that John McCain's campaign would immediately jump on the pick with a negative ad about it. Is this man running on anything other than being anti-Obama? Oh, right, I think he may have mentioned in passing once that he was a POW, too. Clearly these are the only criteria needed to run the country. It's scary to see that there are still so many sheep who apparently haven't learned their lesson over the last 8 years and are willing to continue this country's downward spiral for whatever their own personal issues are. I'm not saying Obama's going to lead us to the "promised land", but I'd rather take a chance on heading in some other direction than straight down.

This is the fine pick. It would be refreshing to have a Vice President with a common touch, who has a sense of the ordinary person and the challenges he has to face. He'll be a great advisor to Obama and provide tremendous insight and knowledge going forward. My opinion of Obama and his judgment has definitely improved and put me much more at ease about voting for him considering this pick.

  • Posted By: ssbn777 @ 08/23/2008 9:49:17 AM

How juvenile is this man????? First, there's "I know, but I'm not tellin'!" Then there's "I'll text it to you." Is this a future POTUS, or a middle school student?

    • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 08/23/2008 10:01:46 AM

Harvard grad lol. A mis-voting Harvard grad at that. But did you really expect him to not pander to the kids whom haven't joined the work force yet? Hard to worry about Obama's tax all policy if his run is over when you join the workforce. Besides, Democrats believe in legalizing non medicinal drug use. Why wouldn't a kid want to vote for him? He's cool!!!
