Here is Biden on the Patriot Act...you know that thing the Dems love to blast Bush on:

Unexpectedly, a call comes in from Attorney General John Ashcroft. Biden picks up the phone and greets Ashcroft like an old Elks lodge buddy. "Hey John, Joe. Howyadoin' pal? What's the sticking points, and tell me if I can be helpful." All day, reporters had been buzzing that Ashcroft wanted to cut a deal with a Democrat, perhaps Biden, to circumvent the stubborn Judiciary Committee chairman, Pat Leahy. . . .

Rather than build up the credentials of a party deeply mistrusted by the public on foreign affairs, Biden often seems more interested in advertising his own accomplishments. In the wake of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, Biden did, in fact, champion an anti-terrorism bill similar to the one now before Congress (though it was, as he complains, badly watered down by anti-government conservatives and leftist civil libertarians). And Biden doesn't let you forget it. "I introduced the terrorism bill in '94 that had a lot of these things in it," he bragged to NBC's Tim Russert on September 30. When I spent the day with him later that week, Biden mentioned the legislation to me, and to several other reporters he encountered, no fewer than seven times. "When I was chairman in '94 I introduced a major antiterrorism bill--back then," he says in the morning, flashing a knowing grin and pausing for effect. (Never mind that he's gotten the year wrong.) Back in his office later that afternoon, he brings it up yet again. "I drafted a terrorism bill after the Oklahoma City bombing. And the bill John Ashcroft sent up was my bill."

I am amazed at all the idiots and weirdos posting pro-McCain comments. For some reason he seems to fascinate people with an IQ lower than their waistline.

During the 2006 confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, the Washington Post's Dana Milbank wrote this of Biden's performance:

"Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., in his first 12 minutes of questioning the nominee, managed to get off only one question. Instead, during his 30-minute round of questioning, Biden spoke about his own Irish American roots, his "Grandfather Finnegan," his son's application to Princeton (he attended the University of Pennsylvania instead, Biden said), a speech the senator gave on the Princeton campus, the fact that Biden is "not a Princeton fan," and his views on the eyeglasses of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.)."

So, did he damage anyone by his verbosity? So what is new? He has a habit of being long winded. I will take his long winded diabtribe over hearing my friends, my friends, my friends to the point of patronizing.

I am not McCain's friend, nor do I care to be called one. I have absolutely no relationship with the man, nor would I if given the opportunity. If he said my fellow citizens, my fellow Americans, would be more like it, but don;t tell him I said that, otherwise I will become his friend.

      YOU POINT OUT THAT JOE BIDEN IS SOMEWHAT OF A SELF CENTERED JERK ---- I HAVE TO AGREE;

BUT, HE IS BETTER THAN CLINTON POND SCUM AND THATS IMPORTANT TO ME.

Biden will help garner some of the Catholic vote not because he is at least nominally Catholic but because of his working class background and his work for the poor. The abortion issue will contintue to plague the Democratic party because on this issue the party is enslaved to the far left that does not represent the views of the country no more than the far right evangelicals represent the Republican party. But, because abortion is more a lightning rod issue, it will hurt more than the generalized right wing issues. When pushed into a corner in debate, if Obama and Biden do not at least register their personal desire to moderate the party's lock step support of this far left issue they will lose votes. It is curious that the Party has allowed itself to be controled by this issue that does not reflect the nation's position. Is their any other "right" in the USA that has such support? Not really. And that clearly is why the continued unbending support of the party for Abortion is the ball and chain that will always cost votes. Hopefully Biden can capture the hearts of the working class and reassure the moderate Republicans to see that overall, the Democratic ticket offers the best chance for the nation to recover from a direction that has brought us to its weakest point in the nation's modern history.

No Ordinary Joe could be a Catholic and be the VP on the ticket of a presidential candidate who is Pro-abortion and Pro -Infanticide. Obama has stated that it is too burdensome for the mother and the abortionist to have a doctor called to care for an infant that is born after a botched late term abortion. Does anyone on this ticket care that it is burdensome to a baby to have to die alone in a cold dirty utility room in a hospital or clinic?

You sound like a throwback to the 70's and early 80's. I have not heard this type of rhetoric in nearly 25 years. I am surprised that it would resurface again.

        marksgershenson -

You attempt to denigrate loriw by stating that she sounds "like a throwback to the 70's and early 80's."
You also add that you are surprised that the issue of abortion "would resurface again."

Well, as is often said - what goes around comes around. Welcome to 2008!

With regard to Obama's dismal publicized attempt to garner the support of Evangelical Christians, I'm sure that you noticed that he really flopped in the Saddleback forum.

Yes, he claims to be a Christian - he sure "talks the talk," but where does he "walk the walk" in that regard?

Has he bothered to join any Christian congregation since he left the church which he had occasionally attended over a 20 year span?
Many Evangelical Christians notice that blatant lack of sincerity!

And then you have Joe Biden, who purports to be a Catholic.
Does he even bother to attend a Catholic service on a regular basis?
Does he receive Holy Communion while blatantly supporting abortion?
It will be interesting to see whether he attempts to do so, and whether the priest refuses to grant that sacrament to him. The priest has a duty to refuse to administer that sacrament to a person who publicly flaunts opposition to church teachings. Great shades of Kerry!

A good segment of the Catholic population will vote according to their conscience in this regard.
And a sizeable portion of recent Latino and Hispanic immigrants are Catholic, and they do demonstrate their faith and religion.

So, as you can readily see, the abortion issue is a formidable concern to the obamabot campaign!

    • Posted By: neos @ 08/23/2008 10:40:56 PM

Perhaps a true Catholic might fight on the side of those who hpoe to reduce the rate of abortions by removing the root causes - poverty, lack of health care, ignorance of planned parenthood options, etc. The republican agenda is to promote a self-smug moral superiority while leaving these root causes in place.

SENATOR BIDEN IS A GREAT CHOICE FOR THE VP ON THE DEMOCRATIC TICKET. HE WILL WORK ALONGSIDE SENATOR OBAMA TO MAKE SURE THAT THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS UNITED. DEMOCRATS MUST COME TOGETHER AND MAKE SURE THAT JOHN McCAIN IS NOT GOING TO ELECTED. THIS COUNTRY CANNOT SURVIVE ANOTHER FOUR YEARS OF DISASTROUS REPUBLICAN POLICIES THAT HAVE NEARLY DESTROYED US. AS FOR THOSE CLINTON PEOPLE WHO INSIST THAT THEY WILL NOT VOTE FOR SENATOR OBAMA, PLEASE THINK ABOUT THE FUTURE OF YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. DON'T THEY DESERVE TO HAVE A SECURE FUTURE? WE MUST GET THIS WONDERFUL COUNTRY HEADED BACK IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. OBAMA/BIDEN IN NOVEMBER IS OUR ONLY HOPE.

Treason is the reason, some, have never trusted the Bush Crime Syndicate.
Paleo-conservatives have always distrusted them. Fruit rarely falls far from the tree.

In the BBC Radio Document program, The Whitehouse Coup, John Buchanan suggests President Roosevelt stopped the investigation for a political deal: "The investigations mysteriously turned to vapor when it comes time to call them to testify. FDR's main interest was getting the New Deal passed, and so he struck a deal in which it was agreed that the plotters would walk free if Wall Street would back off of their opposition to the New Deal and let FDR do what he wanted". [45]
The 2007 BBC radio documentary The White House Coup said that Prescott Bush was connected with the plot.[45]
On July 23, 2007, the BBC Radio 4 series Document reported on the alleged Business Plot and the archives from the McCormack-Dickstein Committee hearings. The program mentioned Bush's directorship of the Hamburg-America Line, a company that the committee investigated for Nazi propaganda activities, and the alleged 1933 attempt, supposedly led by Gerald MacGuire, to stage a military coup against President Franklin D. Roosevelt aimed at forcing Roosevelt to resign (or, failing that, to assassinate him) and at installing a fascist dictatorship in the United States. [5]
Pedigree: Bush was born in Columbus, Ohio to Samuel Prescott Bush and Flora (Sheldon) Bush. Samuel Bush was a railroad executive, then a steel company president, and during World War I, also a federal government official in charge of coordination and assistance to major weapons contractors.
Bush attended the Douglas School in Columbus and then St. George's School in Newport, Rhode Island from 1908 to 1913. In 1913, he enrolled at Yale University, continuing a family legacy as part of the skull and bones society; four subsequent generations of Bushes have been Yale alumni. Prescott Bush was admitted to the Zeta Psi fraternity while at Yale and Skull and Bones secret society.

The Dems Ticket Has Been Set: Obama bin Biden will rule the world!

    YEA!!!

  • Posted By: marksgershenson @ 08/24/2008 11:07:23 AM

On Sunday???the day before the Democratic National Convention begins--the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows Barack Obama attracting 46% of the vote while John McCain earns 43%. When "leaners" are included, it???s Obama 48% and McCain 45%. This is the first time Obama has been up by more than two percentage points with leaners since his ???Berlin bounce??? began to fade on July 28 (see recent daily results). Tracking Polls are released at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time each day.

Yesterday, Obama announced that Joe Biden will be his running mate and the initial reviews are mixed. Polling yesterday found that 39% believe Obama made the right choice while 25% disagreed. Women are less enthusiastic about the choice than men and the McCain campaign was ready with their first ad showing Biden in his own words.

Data from Rasmussen Markets currently gives Obama a 61.7% chance of winning the White House.

McCain is viewed favorably by 57% of the nation???s voters, Obama by 55% (see trends). Biden is now viewed favorably by 48% of voters, up a few points since being selected as Obama???s running mate.

The Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator currently shows Obama leading in states with 193 Electoral College votes while McCain leads in states with 183 votes. When leaners are included, it???s Obama 264, McCain 247. Only three states remain in the toss-up category???Virginia, Colorado, and Nevada. New polling data has been released for Indiana, California, Tennessee, and Mississippi (see 50-State Summary).

And what does "demanding to consider her" mean?. Demanding from whom? But I'm so happy that Biden is a fancy dresser- that's a big plus- NOT.

Obama is doing a great favor to McCain choosing this guy for VP:

-Biden doesn't have any executive experience. No, not even in foreign affairs. Being in the Senate for decades doesn't even come close to work for a single year in the State Department, Defense, Treasury, whatever real job. The Senate is a corrupt endogamic and aristocratic chamber for apparatchiks. Hardly helps Obama's message of change.
-Tiny Delaware is existentially Democratic anyway
-He voted for the Iraq war, for God's sake!!
-His foreign affairs views are more of the same.
-He is bad campaigning (lost 3 primaries already)
-His taste for expensive taylor-made suits (even when visiting pig farms in Iowa on campaign) won't help change Obama's "elitist" image. He may have a blue collar father, but now the only blue collars he wears are in Armani shirts.
-Finally, he doesn't have much appeal among Latinos, a critical group that is proving elusive to Barack.

Is this really the guy Obama want to run with??? Looks to me like a Democratic Cheney.

    • Posted By: Braes @ 08/23/2008 9:28:36 AM

The myth of Obama's elitism is funny. An elitist would have taken his obviously elite credentials and went into clerking for a justice, or as a partner at a big firm. Barack went into community organizing, and the poor neighborhoods of Chicago.
He did not dump a wife or two, Marry an Heiress with an alcohol fortune, or forget how many houses he owns. The elitist is McCain.
As far as a Democratic Cheney, I hope it keeps you awake at night, wondering when the knock at the door will come. It's what Cheney has done to the world. Terror, Torture, Death.

      • Posted By: Bob2008 @ 08/23/2008 9:55:15 AM

Biden doesn't have an foreign affairs experience? Are you serious? Senate Foreign Affairs Chairman is not foreign affairs experience? I'm not going to call anybody stupid or ignorant, but come on! And as for Braes love for Obama, he doesn't seem to know the facts either, as that Obamas employment in one of the biggest most powerful law firms in the Midwest, does nothing for the poor neighborhoods of Chicago. I'd challenge you to find a single case registered in the clerks office to conflict that. Biden should be the Presidential Candidate, and Obama the VP candidate. Then maybe there could be victory. The ticket just die not work the way it is.

        • Posted By: froy1100 @ 08/24/2008 7:47:39 AM

Being a political crony long enough to get tenure to sit on a Foreign Relations committee is not EXECUTIVE experience and does not mean someone has great foreign policy skills.

      • Posted By: toobad4us @ 08/23/2008 10:46:53 AM

Really? Where are the reports on the Annenberg Project in Chicago where Obama controlled nearly 100 million dollars to improve education in Chicago Public Schools and the changes reported were INSIGNIFICANT! Let's get the records out and see how that 100 million were spent; who got the money and what was done with it. I don't want to turn the country over to someone who wants to tax and spend with NO SIGNIFICANT RESULTS!

One of the most overlooked episodes during the 1987 collapse of Biden's campaign was a snippet of footage captured by C-Span in which the Delaware senator, in response to a question about where he went to law school and what sort of grades he received, delivered this classic line: "I think I have a much higher IQ than you do."

    The Case Against Joe Biden
WashingtonPost.com Politics Blog Chris Cillizza Aug. 23, 2008

    Joe Loves Joe

One of the most overlooked episodes during the 1987 collapse of Biden's campaign was a snippet of footage captured by C-Span in which the Delaware senator, in response to a question about where he went to law school and what sort of grades he received, delivered this classic line: "I think I have a much higher IQ than you do."

While any human being -- especially a candidate for president who is constantly being poked and prodded -- can be forgiven a momentary flash of temper, Biden's detractors point to that incident as evidence that the senator thinks he is the bee's knees and doesn't care who knows it.

Biden, by his own admission, has the capacity to fall in love with his own voice and wander off on tangents about his life that have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

During the 2006 confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, the Post's Dana Milbank wrote this of Biden's performance:
"Sen.

    Ouch.

So if by happenstance that Romney is McCain's choice for VP, similar comments and him being dissed for his remarks about McCain? So he has a big mouth. I wish there was such thing as a perfect choice for either side. It ain't happening.
