Well...I for one, an independent voter in Ohio, fail to see the excitement about this decision. Liberal and More Liberal...........that's the change we keep hearing about? Where's the balance? I still haven't made up my mind about who I am going to vote for.......but Biden on the ticket makes me lean the other way at the moment!

    • Posted By: Totto @ 08/23/2008 7:51:12 PM

Well, faminchin, Ohio's all boarded up and just about ready to blow away. But keep voting the same way and you won't have a road to drive on nor a pot to pee in. Bush, Rove, Cheney, McCain, Romney just love the ignorant ones like you. Their offshore accounts are bloated and they're ready to move outta here when the need arises.

Why is Barack Obama so comfortable around people who so despise America and its allies? Maybe it???s because they???re so comfortable around him. He presents as the transcendent agent of ???change.??? Sounds platitudinous, but it???s really quite strategically vaporous. Sen. Obama is loath to get into the details of how we should change, and, as the media???s Chosen One, he hasn???t had to.

The "change" that this Obama-Biden ticket will bring will be not having MEGA-MILLIONAIRES RUINING OUR COUNTRY for the next four years. No more fascist infiltration of our agencies, by appointments of only the "Right" thinkers and firings of the rest....as happened in the Bush Administration recently.

Mega-Millionaires and politics are not a good mix - too much temptation to jigger the system to their own profitable advantage.

Bushes - the S&L Scandal during the 1980s (Bush Sr) and now the Mortgage and Credit Crisis of the New Millenium (bush Jr)... what will a McCain-Romney ticket bring: MORE OF THE SAME - MILLIONAIRES MANIPULATING WALL STREET, BIG BUSINESS AND THE MILITARY INDUSTRIAL COMPLEX so they can pocket the profits - there is not a single thought to the plight of the rest of Americans, you can be certain of that.

More I read these comment more I start to believe in the defination of Democrats as per Repugs: "A group of bickering, interest groups who will never unite on one forum".
Go to the Repugs forums and see how they have united behind their candidate even though they all knew he was not the best they had. He is no way better than Huckabee & Romney, however the supporters of Huckabee and Romney are not blackmailing to vote other way to get their guy a VP slot. They are not bickering after they LOST. Instead they are standing behind their guy. They are all channeling their money onto McSame's fund. You know why? because they know that at the end of the day they all have one goal. Which is to keep lower taxes for rich & continue the war games. To do this they will fool the right wing conservative voters with the agenda of Infanticide & Homophobia.
On the other hands the stupid Dems are gonna keep on bickering and loose another election. I was a Hillary supporter and now I will VOTE for BHO, because I know that he will keep me and my fellow troops out of the harms way. He will exhaust every channel before he will put another American life at risk in war zone.

Biden's been in Washington for 35 years and doesn't bring any governing experience. He was a last minute add on because of Georgia-Russia and because barry needs an attack dog.

    • Posted By: Totto @ 08/23/2008 7:33:54 PM

What "governing" experience does "more war" McCain bring?

  • Posted By: paulte @ 08/23/2008 7:33:05 PM

As a conservative and a Republican I am just pleased as punch with Obama's vp pick! First of all, we all can all breathe a sigh of relief that it is not Hillary. Obama is like Jack iand the beanstalk. He has vanquished the wicked witch of the west. Now she can get on her broomstick and fly back to Oz! But having vanquished her completely, there is a segment of Democrats (mostly women) who will never vote for him. This is very good indeed!

As for Biden he is a hack and a has been. How does including a consummate Washington insider on the ticket speak to the change issue which is Obama's mantra? it does not; it contradicts it. Then you have the fact that Biden is a white hair white guy just like McCain. Obama loses a lot of the youth vote on this one. Don't vote for the old fart McCain, vote for the youthful Obama with an almost as old fart as McCain on his ticket!

One thing Biden does bring to the ticket is experience which Obama certainly doesn't have. But what kind of experience? The experience of being a consummate insider and a tired old liberal! As for the fact that Biden is an RC, so what? Kerry as an RC couldn't get the Catholic vote, so why should Biden who is also tolerant of killing babies as Kerry was get the votes of devout Roman Catholics? He won't get the vote of any real Roman Catholic who believes that Roe v Wade is a ruling straight from hell and that is the place where all RC pro-choice politicians are going!.

    avondale,
Congress wanted to lift the ban on drilling in the 90's but guess who vetoed it? That's right "slick willie clinton". Had we drilled then we wouldn't be sending 700 billion a year to people who want to kill us all. Dems got us into this mess and must want to keep us there.
We have our own resources but and need to exploit them all.

    • Posted By: Totto @ 08/23/2008 1:26:31 PM

Well, "dump", why didn't your beloved Bush and his Republican majority Congress lift the ban when they had the chance? Incidentally, all the oil would be sold on the world market and not benefit the US. Coastal states have concerns about their fishing industries, but since McDonald's is your preferred cuisine, that wouldn't matter to you.

      • Posted By: dumpthedems @ 08/23/2008 3:18:24 PM

Spoken like a true prophetic liberal lip flipper. I personally don't dine at McDonalds because their food sucks. The facts remain that repubs want use our own resources instead of sending 700 billion a year to the rag heads that want to blow us away. What part of that doesn't make sense. Get ya another glass of kool-aid and think about it.

Most republikanischers have their breakfast brought to them. He has obviously swallowed every bit of BS he's been fed by his Fuhrer, so naturally he'll believe them when they tell him, "oh, if we drill, gas prices will come down IMMEDIATELY!" At least my kool-aid isn't spiked with Golden Grain.

Clinton had the vision to veto a short sighted dependence on oil and know that renewable sources are the future; unfortunately Bush went back to the Reagan policies of coal and oil and no new auto mileage standards....until it became so obvious it was wrong the last year in office he decided to launch "new energy alternatives". Not to mention, the oil companies aren't even using millions of acres where they already have permits

We were and we still are dependant on oil, so how do you figure slick willies vision was so insightful. So much for his and your intelegence.

I have seen a few comments about oil leasing that seemed to come from misinformation. I own several properties with mineral rights. We occasionaly have companies lease this property for a 5 year period at a fixed price per acre. Many of the properties have been leased over the last 40+ years with no drilling taking place. The leasing company leases large amounts property in the area and may drill only on the property with the best possible chance of finding oil. The reason there is no drilling on most of the property is because there hasn't been enough oil there to produce. After 5 years the lease terminates and the oil companies have to renew the lease, which they pay for again. With that said, Why would the government, who owns the oil rights on off shore properties not what to lease the rights to the oil companies? This would put millions of dollars into the treasury and even more if they hit oil or gas. Makes no sense to me. In the next 20 years, even with alternative energy, the U.S. will need 25% more oil and gas than we use now. This should be a no brainer.

        • Posted By: avondale @ 08/23/2008 2:00:04 PM

All three of you are missing the point. There is no oil shortage. Period! It doesn't make a rats rear end how much more drilling you do, volume of product is not what's currently affecting the price. 81% of all oil contracts on the commodities exchange are held by companies and individuals that have no intent of taking possession of oil. Long haul I agree with you. Let's stop sending money to our OPEC who routinely threatens to hold us hostage. Meanwhile, Mr. McCain is trying to sell you that the democratic congress doesn't care about your suffering through the high gas prices that are affecting almost every product you buy or trip you take because they won't lift the off shore drilling ban. Why not pass regulation that stops the reckless speculation in our own commodities market that is causing the problem. This is the problem..not a lack of drilling for more oil. There's already enough oil.

When are you Democrats going to stop having double standards? If A democrat makes it rich he is a hero , If a republican makes it rich he is manipulating millionaire. When a republican messes up he either quits or gets run out of office, when a democrat messes up he is a hero I.E. Bill Clinton, William Jefferson Davis in new Orleans, Barak Obama with his sweetheart deals in Real Estate. Clearly, many Democrats are now disillusioned with Obama. As a long time Democrat and former supporter of Obama, I am very disappointed with his choice for VP. It seems that he has chosen what is best for Obama rather than the Democratic party. I have heard the CNN Republican political pundits express what a strong ticket an Obama/Clinton ticket would have been. Instead of picking the person for the strongest ticket, Obama has picked someone who has not appealed to the American public in past presidential primaries.

Sure the politicians are lining up behind Obama???s choice but how do the American people feel?

It is now looking like the Democrats may loose this election. How is this possible when the climate is ripe for a change from Republican leadership?

There is a way out of this. Have you considered this idea? Obama has such a slim margin of electoral votes over Hillary Clinton that it is possible she could still win the Democratic Presidential nomination. If enough delegates pass on the first round of voting next week, then they can switch their vote to Hillary in subsequent rounds of voting. Wow! That would make a convention worth watching!

    • Posted By: Spacer @ 08/23/2008 2:49:09 PM

Obama's main problem is that he's having trouble getting the racist vote. Face it: the polls showed that most of the people who voted for Hillary but won't vote for Obama admitted that it was because of his race.

Hillary Clinton did get hit with a lot of sexist attacks, but NOT from Obama. The attacks were coming from the corporate media back when she was leading Obama and the media assumed she'd be the Democratic nominee. After it was clear that Obama was going to be the nominee, they turned their attacks on Obama to help out the Republicans.

The corporate media do not want a close contest as some people think; they want McCain to win and they'll help spread lies about Obama, including the lies that he treated Clinton any worse than she treated him. To Hillary's credit, she's no whiner like some of her spiteful supporters (or Republicans pretending to be her supporters on message boards).

      • Posted By: kriegsjk @ 08/23/2008 4:42:39 PM

Rubbish. When Clinton clobbered Obama in WV, OH and PA the left whined that Obama could not get more than 37% of the white vote because -by innuendo- they were racist. How does that square with the fact that Obama regularly gets 95% of the African American vote. Double standard anyone?

        • Posted By: cult followers @ 08/23/2008 7:07:08 PM

there was no innuendo, it was stated outright.

      • Posted By: katvan @ 08/23/2008 3:11:19 PM

SPACER. Go look at the exit polls on CNN for yourself. The overwhelming trend showed that more Americans were uncomfortable with the idea of a woman for president than they were about a black man. The rest of your post is just as ridiculous. What is your goal?

      • Posted By: toobad4us @ 08/23/2008 3:06:54 PM

Obama is not having trouble getting the racist vote? How typical. If someone believes that experience trumps color I guess they are a racist. What about the blacks who have said they will vote for Obama because he could be the first black President? Is that racist? No, how could it be? If someone whose family may have been affected 140 years ago by members of their race selling them to other blacks or whites votes based upon skin color, I guess that is just another form of affirmative action. My family emigrated to the U.S. and yes I am white, but I don't understand why just because of my skin color I must be a racist or responsible for actions of people who had slaves? Just like most things, the racist card has two sides.

In August, 2007 Biden, stated, unequivocally, that he would not accept a VP nomination if asked. Now he has experienced a true audacity of hope moment.
Biden' Senate seat is up is up for reelection in November, 2008, The Republicans are going to charge that in order to avoid a stiff Senate challenge in Noveber, Biden lied about accepting a 2008 VP slot. Consequently, if the Dems lose the general, Biden will still have a Senate seat.....and if the win, the Democrat governor of will be able to appoint Biden's son, Beau, to fill his father's vacant Seat.
Now, that's change for you -- Chicago style.
Please keep in mind, all of you Dems, that the more things "change", the more they remain the same!

We Dems like to think of change in a more optimistic way. Your last statement is a oxymoron at best. If we, and I mean the country as a whole, loose hope than we are truly lost. Change can be good and given the current state of affairs I think change is necessary.

  • Posted By: NewDawn @ 08/23/2008 7:04:47 PM

It is amazing to me the double standard the democrats have in this country. If you are republican and well off you amega millionaire who has done all kinds of who knows what crimes. It seems to me everytime a republican does wrong the guy quits or gets run out of office. Let a democrat do something wrong and he is a hero. I.E. Clinton, Barney Franks, William Jefferson Davis in New Orleans, Barak Obama with his GOOD deal from Tony Resko and so on and so on. SEems to me you Democrats need to wake up and get back to the party you once were full of integrity. The last good democrat that didn't blame this country and seemrd to love this country was President John F. Kennedy Ralph P0ole
