Some Like It Cool

He's been called hip, sexy and likened to a rock star. But the key to Obama's mystique is his earnest geekiness and sobriety.

"Not all Democrats agree with Mr. Frank that such policies are off-limits to criticism. Last week Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama said in a statement: 'Like a lot of my Democratic colleagues I was too slow to appreciate the recklessness of Fannie and Freddie. I defended their efforts to encourage affordable homeownership, when in retrospect, I should have heeded the concerns raised by their regulator in 2004. Frankly, I wish my Democratic colleagues would admit when it comes to Fannie and Freddie, we were wrong.'

"Mr. Davis is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus."

    'Rank snobbery'

Camille Paglia, who supports Sen. Barack Obama, has nothing but scorn for the way the media has treated Sarah Palin.

"The mountain of rubbish poured out about Palin over the past month would rival Everest. What a disgrace for our jabbering army of liberal journalists and commentators, too many of whom behaved like snippy jackasses," Miss Paglia writes at www.salon.com.

"The bourgeois conventionalism and rank snobbery of these alleged humanitarians stank up the place. As for Palin's brutally edited interviews with Charlie Gibson and that viper, Katie Couric, don't we all know that the best bits ended up on the cutting-room floor? Something has gone seriously wrong with Democratic ideology, which seems to have become a candied set of holier-than-thou bromides attached like tutti-frutti to a quivering green Jell-O mold of adolescent sentimentality."

    The Antichrist!:
When George Soros failed to obtain the election of his candidate, John Kerry, in 2004, he brooded for a while, even said he might get out of politics altogether, but he just couldn???t stop himself. He has stated publicly that he wishes to burst the ???bubble of American supremacy,??? because he says our preeminence in the world is a detriment to global ???equilibrium.??? So far, he has failed, but he keeps on trying.

And Mr. Soros has made no secret either of the fact that he sees the shortest way to effect political shake-ups, what he terms ???regime changes,??? is through very difficult economic conditions.

America has not yet felt the full force of Soros style economic shock treatment. But others have.

Soros made his first billion in 1992 by shorting the British pound with leveraged billions in financial bets, and became known as the man who broke the Bank of England. He broke it on the backs of hard-working British citizens who immediately saw their homes severely devalued and their life savings cut drastically in comparative worth almost overnight.

When the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 threatened to spread globally, George Soros was right in the thick of it. Soros was accused by the Malaysian Prime Minister of causing the collapse with his monetary machinations, and he was branded in Thailand as an ???economic war criminal??? who ???sucks the blood from the people.??? Right in the middle of this crisis, Soros dashed off his book, The Crisis of Global Capitalism, which demanded a ???third way??? toward economic stability.

Wake up, America, before it is too late!!!!

McBush is such a flip floper if Obama lacks experence this lady has none...what does tha say about McBush's judgement...he will try anything to get elected because all he's got is "I was a pow"...

100 to 1 says florida dave has raped and molested young boys throughout his life. This comes from the typical right wing conservative playbook, accuse the other side of what your guilty of. Nice try florida dave, but most homosexual pedophiles are right wing conservatives.

I enjoyed this article very much. Sounds like this was a strange experience for a journalist, and also exciting.

I think too that this article was well crafted and the proof is the controversy it created. Too bad that so many comment writers have so many empty arguments like McCain would be a good choice because he was a POW. What qualification is that? And a hero? Whose life did he save? He participated in North Vietnamese propaganda broadcast. Does this qualify him to be president of the USA?

It is easy to understand the hype around ANY candidate that gives off charisma. We live in an incredibly gullible society. Liberty first does an excellent job in pointing out questionable associations. Let's also get down to the real matter at hand when it comes to being President of the United States and the free world...sexy and charismatic do not keep the terrorist away. Sexy and charismatic in the democratic platform does not create jobs. It takes jobs away by creating EVERY MORE social programs, by taxing those that would continue to create jobs.

The comparison with JFK is appropriate and an Obama presidency would likely be the same--BANKRUPT of any real accomplishment.

What cannot be compared is a true track record of bipartisan success in Congress to an idealist rookie. It is an interesting country we live in, when a military patriot who spent years of of suffering in a POW camp is compared to an individual who at best could become a successful motivational speaker.

America, be prepared...This will be a close election. If Obama gets into office, there will be little if anything accomplished in Congress during the first four years. Young people, check you history books for the Jimmy Carter era. You will want to brush up on your knowledge of fundamentalist muslims, as well. They don't like you or your lifestyle. And they will laugh at your hip, sexy, charismatic President, when the next opportunity to drop a bomb presents itself.

what is so hero like about a shut down pilot and POW in Vietnam? It can happen to any pilot who does not watch out for his plane. And to be a POW makes him a hero? Are you kidding me. What were exactly his accomplishments as a POW ? Participating in North Vietnam propaganda broadcast? where would McCain have acquired any skill to be leading a fight against terrorism? Or to be president?

Did you even listen what democrats were saying at the convention???
Just like Bush, Mc cain will be a disaster if he is elected. Republicans do not have the competences, the common sense or the intelligence to govern this country

      • Posted By: realisticvoter @ 08/28/2008 1:05:29 PM

Sorry, I do not follow ANYTHING democratic related. However, I agree with you that common sense is vitally important to running a country. Therefore, gaining realistic knowledge of platforms would be a common sense thing to do. Unfortunately, what does not happen at election time from any party is laying out the true economic results of any platform. One is socialist ic (democratic), one is capitalistic (republican). My lesson was learned many years ago as a young person when I voted for Jimmy Carter. Then, one of the greatest Presidents in our history, Ronald Reagan, taught me a lesson. The socialist platform on which the communist built and destroyed a country (Soviet Union) will never be the answer for any country. The capitalistic way is allowing the people to run their country and have dignity in doing so.

I challenge Newsweek to provide a true outlying of platforms and the economic results in their publication.

        Blessings to all!

        • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 08/28/2008 1:29:42 PM

That is the problem with you people, you don't want to listen at what the other side has to say. What are you going to do when 10% of you capitalist will hold all the wealth and and the other 90% becomes poor.. YOU WON'T SURVIVE! What you refuse to understand is that it is a moral and ethical obligation to help the most unfortunate in this world.. this is what you do not understand, because you people do know the meaning of those words..

          • Posted By: realisticvoter @ 08/28/2008 1:50:52 PM

It is a moral and ethical obligation to be a giver and not a taker a majority of the time. Once again, don't forget to check your platform. Socialism vs. capitalism.

It is a interesting country we live in when in 2004 we elected a awol president who hid out in Alabama (with his dads help) while John Kerry served in Vietnam.... but this country is full of right wing nuts so being a pow make you ready for the presidents job....dont think so...in 30 years in the senate he did nothing...what makes you think he woulld do any thing as president. Wonder if he could remember where the white house is....

      • Posted By: realisticvoter @ 08/28/2008 1:35:43 PM

Make a note of where Obama is on election day. Relevance...

    • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 08/28/2008 1:02:43 PM

LOL realistic voter my butt, the real problem with this country are the voters who consider themselves intelligent and well informed.
The hard cold fact is Jimmy Carter accomplished more than any of the last four republican Presidents, come to think of it he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his accomplishments.
And JFK accomplished more in 3 years than the last four Republican Presidents, unless you consider the current economic crisis an accomplishment. Because that is the legacy of the last four Republican presidencies and about all we have to show for their ???service???.

      • Posted By: realisticvoter @ 08/28/2008 1:12:39 PM

And you took American History and Economics in what country?

  • Posted By: shortjames @ 08/28/2008 6:27:03 PM

I lived in Texas under governor Bush and his entire term was designed to get him the presidency. He never took a position on ANY issue, liberal or conservative. He would sign whatever the legislature passed and wait for the polls. If it was popular he stood up and took credit. If it was unpopular he would shrug and say something like "well I didnt agree either but the legislature passed it so what can I do? <shrug>". So in effect he was a non leader but of course it worked and got him the reputation as a uniter. Well we all know how that story ended!
