Lets take a look at history and see if we can find some parreles to todays world of Islam. Comment: I sometime wonder if religion might be a pawn of the devil to get us to fight with each other, and to war with each other. Jesus never actually spoke much about religion, but did talk about establishing his church, which Peter was the first head of. A "church" might mean a way of life, a belief system, not neccessarily a structure, which is only a convient place to woeship, and, as such, should be respected. The Bible gives us an example of one occassion where Jesus lost his holy temper at the temple, when the money changers were using the temple in an in-appropriate way; Jesus overturned the tables and told them that this was a building intended as a place of worship of God, and they were disgracing it. I know that is not the exact quote, but it is, basically, what he told them. We are not suppose to hate or persicute someone of a different faith, we are suppose to respect their right to worship as they choose, but when one attempts to use force to convert us to their ways, we have the right, the obligation to defend ourselves, to protect our values and life style in order that it will still be in place to pass on to our children and their children. Christianity does not use force in an attempt to control anyone's way of beliving, they offer, those who are interested, the teachings of Christ, but it is then up to the person to accept or reject, without any reprecussions from the religion. I, personally, am a convert to the Catholic religion, and before that, I educated myself in many belief systems, including Mormon, and many protestent religions. One can not just decide to join the Catholic Church, they, first, have to attend a series of meetings to learn about the beliefs and practices, and are shown a chart of the many protestent religions and how and when each one were, at one time, a part of the Catholics, but broke off to form their own churches, when they did not choose to accept some part of the teachings; and that was within their right to do so, no one tried to prevent their free choices. Many people want to believe only those parts of the Bible that appeals to them, and toss the rest out. Catholics have been accused of worshiping Mary, which is not true, we honor her as the mother of Jesus, but we do not worship her. We have, also, been accused of worshiping statues just because we have a few, that is, almost laughable, if it were not so pathetic that someone would, actually be so naieve as to believe that; we no more worship statues than you worship a picture hanging on your wall. They are strickly an art form to enhance a building or where ever they are placed, just as your paintings are. God did not forbid the making of a statue, what he forbid was the worship of anything besides him (Thou shall have no other Gods before me). Do YOU worship your paintings or other decorations? Neither do Catholics.

FloraD. The founder of the Morman church was from Eur. He came to this country so he and his followers could practice his faith as they see fit. In some whys it is a mixture of Christian and Islam. Women where not allowed to travel w/o husbands, so for the women who had been widowed and need to travel from the East coast to Utah, they allowed the men to take multiple wives.
Comment: Another thing I never understood about having multiple wives, is if a woman was widowed, then why didn't another family just take her and her family into their home to live and help with chores until she found another husband--a man who did not already have a wife, or just live within the family, why did he have to marry her? Isn't that what Christians do--help one another? Why didn't the group get together to build a home for her and her children, then watch over them, and the women could help with whatever was needed. If you want to END or reduce poverty how about enacting a law that states people need a certain INCOME to have children? That would do it in a generation or two! I think what's fair is everybody can have ONE kid but to have 2 you need to make $30,000, to have 3 you need $50,000 per year and to have 4 you need to make over $100,000 per year. That would end or slow the poverty explosion as all these welfare mothers who are popping our 3 to 5 kids who then grow up, steal, sell drugs and kill go to prison and us hard working tax payers have to pay $40k to $50k a year to house them in jail. Crazy!

No, I do not feel that raising our taxes so that some street person who was too lazy to get themselves educated so they could get a decent job and pay for their own health plan deserves or has a right to my taxes to provide that for them. I am not rich, but I do have a good health plan, due to doing the above. Besides, there is already a health care program for the poor, its called welfare, and was intended as a temporary assistence, not as an option to working. Being a Christian does not mean being a whimp, so, yes, we can fight for what we believe in, just as our ancestors did. I'm all for programs that help people get a better life, and help young people get an education, so they can help themselves, and we can all benefit from their expertise once they have become doctors, mechanics, chefs or what ever they choose as their career, but I am opposed to programs which deprive people of the pride of doing for themselves. Temporary help, yes, permanent entitlement, no. Recipents should be given a time limit in which to complete a program that will help them get a better life, then they need to move on. Tax $$ should go for worthwhile programs, not to study the breeding habits of mosquitos, or such nonsense. And Social Security should not be touched at all except to be given to those who have paid into it when they retire as it was intended, or to their children who are still minors if their parent has deceased. And Illegals are not entitled to anything except emergency care and to be sent back to their own country, at the expense of their own country, and if they are caught here a second time illegally, the fine to their country doubles, and if we can't collect, then we send them to Iraq to earn their keep by fighting for it.
