George Bush is a Christian. His religion didn't help him prevent 9/11, did it?

Wrong. What a contradiction. Look at the US currency. In GOD we trust. How can a Muslim follow and lead this nation with this kind of belief? As a Church goers, are you to say that if I went to Iraq and tried to be elected for president in a background other than Muslim that they would say "By all means..your in!"? I think not. But they come to the US of A because they can. What kind of crap is that. They can do this to us and yet we can't do it over their? One thing they do on their country's that we really lack here in the US of A is consistency. Demo's have no backbone. They like to make everyone happy for the sake of everyone without repercussion.

The inner sanctum of God within all of us is thwarted more by the religious Christians, who place power in the belief that they will be saved after death and excuse themselves from any attempt at knowing God within.
How backwards and unfortunate that many in the U.S. live their lives in mediocrity and vote the same way, based on what others in their group support and embracing common knowledge of ignorance.

This article makes many sound points. Religious bigotry is the only form of bigotry that is somewhat acceptable in this country. Many Christians believe that the only path to salvation or "heaven" is through faith in Christ. Anyone who believes differently is wrong, and thus damned. This is preached time and time again, and I personally find it very offensive. Jefferson said there should be a wall built between religion and politics.

Excellent essay about emphasizing the supposed separation between church and state. I, for one, would have no problem voting for an atheist, if this atheist was qualified in all other respects. Realistically, I believe Americans are, finally, smart enough to vote for the person, regardless of race. Obama's got my vote!

Thank you, Thank you , Thank you for finally addressing this issue head on. America is a "melting pot", a haven to people from a wide range of diverse backgrounds, and, dare I say it, religions. So why is the assumption being held that one must be Christian to assume the presidency? What then is the purpose of having a separation of Church and State? On the one hand I'm happy that religion is now spoken about so freely and openly in the public forum. On the other hand I'm afraid as the article so aptly pointed out that this could become the preferred (or should I say politically correct) form of discrimination going forward. We can not allow our society to degenerate back to the dark ages. What's next, the Crusades all over again?

I think it is obscene to look at the externals of what a person might do, when the evidence of what he has done is available. It is not important what religeon Obama practices, What is important is what his behavior is, what his core beiefs are, and can he do the job.

Let us not forget 9/11 and the effect it has had on the American scene. Just because someone says they aren't something does not mean it's the truth. We can't take a chance on having "Osama's brother" running the country. It is the most important job in the country. Russia said back in 1962 that they would bury us from within. That's what could happen if we have a Muslim president.

I am a Democrat, but if Obama was a muslim, I would not vote for him. I never believed that muslims actually believe in democracy and equal rights for all citizens especially religious minorities. Religious minorities have very few rights in Islamic countries.
