As I read all of the various blogs/comments, I realize not many people study or have studied the scriptures because if they whether OBAMA had Islamic roots or if he was linked to the communist party would not be a problem. Because the end time conflict will be between to groups of brothers (believers) accept one worships him according to his way ( Sunday worship) and believes that a man can forgive one's sin... and has the power to change the time... and the other brother worships the Messiah according to the way he instructed it to be . This believer knows that the SABBATH has never been changed (Saturday) , and accepts the MESSIAH as his SAVIOR... and is circumcised inwardly by the heart and the spirit and is obedient to our SAVIOR and not to MAN/ the Church... SO I would be more worried about the continuing influence of the ROMAN CATHLOIC PAPALACY/ ROMAN CATHLOIC CHURCH. NOT this the other nonsense folks are talking and read and study your bible !!! and COME OUT OF BABYLON!!!!

For everyone who is whining at the Democrats for nominating Barack Obama, just remember that people voted for him. If you want the freedoms of a democratic country, you have to live with the choices that the majority make, whether they are mistakes or not. The alternative is to have all major decisions carried out by a handful of people who don't care about the people.

While I know Obama is not a Muslim, there is NO WAY in HELL I would want a Muslim in the White House. I don't even want a right-wing Christian in there. So to expect that we SHOULD be open to that is insane. I consider myself fairly open -- but there is line to how open we should be as a nation.

I don't believe for a second that Obama is a closet Muslim. He is either a Christian or, hopefully, a closet Atheist. We can't know for sure. But speaking from a secular point of view, I would indeed find it very difficult to vote for a Muslim candidate. What America needs is less religion, not more. More secularism and more rational thinking. What we don't need is are elected representatives that are part of a religion that is as hateful and violent as Islam. The prophet Muhammed was an incestuous pedophile and a genocidal warlord. Compare that to Jesus the pacifist. It seems that Islam is incompatible with secular democracy because it is not just a religion, but a political and judicial ideology. Of course many Muslims are not Orthodox, but that is just because they are either ignorant of, or choose to ignore the darker realities that are inherent in their religion. It seems very strange to me that there are so many liberals that apologize for Islam, since Islamic beliefs are much closer to extreme right-wing beliefs that any thing on the left. So as an Obama-voting liberal: can we please stop this nonsense of equating criticism of Islam as racist or intolerant? In America we can criticize any belief and that is why I love this country. It's kind of important!

I think Mr Cose is forgetting that the memory of 9/11 and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are still on the minds of most Americans. The reality that America was hated by Jihadist Muslims was a shock to many on that morning in September and a lesson that few have forgotten.
Does that mean that people have now developed a dislike and contempt for Islam? Or is it that people have sat up and started taking notice finally that there is an Extremist Islam out there and it is actively making trouble around the world. Not all Muslims are extremists, of course. Just as not all christians are bible thumping creationists. A minority in the group has given the rest a bad name. But if our current much beleagured president keeps citing his christian faith then why would not a Muslim president rely on his faith? And if (as the majority seems to believe) this faith is one that preaches Jihad and contempt for the non believers then why would any non Muslim American in his right mind vote for a Muslim candidate?
So yes this is religious prejudice but even the thoughtful people among us do face this head on and acknowledge it and discuss it. There is no closet fear of Islam in this country. It is a full blown terror for many among us.

If you're like me there are THREE ISSUES this election that matter most!

Economy - John Mc Cain clearly wins. Lower taxes encourage savings and investment which create jobs. Sending money to Washington to waste takes it out of your local communities and makes no sense. And since the richest top 10% pay 2/3 of ALL Taxes now I agree with Obama "It's a matter of FAIRNESS" and the rich already pay TOO MUCH.

Economists AGREE with Mc Cain's plan, don't take my word go read the experts opinions. Obama isn't going to create 5 million jobs he will create an economic NIGHTMARE. We should be calling him Barak "FREDDY KRUGER" Obama.

Stock Market - Most of us whether we like it or not have money invested in stocks. Your 401k, IRAs, etc, etc are in the stock market. Obama's tax policies will hurt the stock market and rob you of your money and you will have LESS money for retirement or your kids college.

IRAQ WAR - I don't want our troups in Iraq any more than you do. But the fact is we're there, we were probably lied to about the war and it sucks. Agreed! However we're there so lets win it and create Democracy in the Middle East. I'm a moderate and offended by many of the comments here. Frankly, I don't believe "Carreer Day Trader" at all -- if you were very successful you wouldn't hang out in chat rooms. Many Democrats are naive idiots, but many Republicans are mean, selfish and short-sighted-- I'm disgusted by both.

This is to Ellis Cose in reply to your article referenced above: The surest way to get Obama defeated would be for him speak out against distrust of Muslims. The distrust of Muslims is warranted. How many foreighn terrorists from any other religion are a threat to the U.S.? Did you notice that every one of the 9/11 terrorists were Muslims? Have you read the Qur'an? The Qur'an encourages believers to kill non-believers. Muslims believe the Qur'an is the inerrant word of God. You can say "It does't mean kill non-believers", but it says that. Does any other religious book urge that? Does any other religion have suicide bombers? I'm not sure if you are naive, ignoring the facts, an unwitting dupe, or a Muslim. For me, this isn't a religious issue, it's a national security issue. When a group has basically stated that they want to destroy us, and has attacked us, we should take it seriously. Encourage a serious discussion -- don't try to shut people up by calling them "prejudiced", "intolerant" or "Islamophobic". Am I intolerant of religious extremists who hate me and would impose their religion on me if they had the chance? Absolutely. I might vote for Obama, but I won't if I conclude he is as naive as you.

The headline of the article is simply not good English--if using "were" instead of "was" or "is" is for some sort of emphasis, it is lost because of the poor structure.
