Comment: Harley's comments are frightfully incoherent, but Obama offered a fair enough compromise for any once except the fanatics that run the Republican party. Yes, citizens can own guns for purposes such as hunting and self-defense, but we need to put some controls on who can and who cannot get a weapon.

I own a car. In order to drive, I must register my car and get a drivers' license. In order to get a drivers' license I must pass a drivers' test both written and behind-the-wheel. Because I am near-sighted, my license stipulates that I can only drive if I wear glasses. If I wish to drive a truck or commerical vehicle, I must get additional licenses and pass additional tests.

Why is this compromise so unreasonable?

All the Republicans know how to do is to pander to their own fanatical constiuents. They don't care how many lives are lost. As I write this comment, I've noticed on my news creen that 6 people are dead in a shooting rampage in Alger, Washington. How long must this slaughter continue?

Republicans are really not pro-life. Neither is the NRA. If they cared about people rather than guns, they would support Obama's proposal. Only Obama has the courage to tell the people the truth -regardless of what the opinion polls say.

Comment: Yesterday, these are all things repigs can say, even though his case is totally gay, oh they will CLING to yesterday.
Suddenly, Obama is the man that cares for "WE", McCain's not half the man he used to be. Barack Obama is backed by "WE"

Why he had to be half black I don't and I don't care, but repigs think it's wrong and they long for yesterday.

    Please sing along ;)

Comment: Sen Mc why there was recently a very serious earthquake in California what are your thoughts?
    A: Im a POW
Sen Mc a terrible hurricane hit Haiti, any comments?
    A Im a POW
Sen Mc for a very long time you were AGAINST OFFSHORE DRILLING, then after receiving 1,580,000.00 you FLOPPED on your "maverick" position, why?
    A: Im a POW
Sen Mc you came out very strong for Gruzia, and then we come to find out that a Mr. Schunneman took 800,000.00 for lobbying to you about their interests, can you explain?
A: What's Gruzia, is that a bread or something?
NO it's the REAL NAME of Georgia.
    A: Oh, Im a POW!
How many houses do you have
    A: Im POW
What kind of car do you drive?
    A: Im a POW!
Why did you cheat on and then leave your crippled wife who wait loyally for 5 long years for you?
    A: Im a POW
    What about the KEATING 5?
    A: POW
MY FRIENDA, if I may, 40 years ago, I sucked as a pilot and I got shot down, I had already crashed 5 jet fighters prior to that, so it was NO real surprise. I spent 5 years in prison where i did not have, earthquakes, or hurricanes, or BIG OIL, or 94 million, of 11 houses, or a billionaire wife, or cars, or SENIOR CITIZEN SAVINGS ACCOUNTS TO ROB...
In short, like my height, arms, patients, attention span, and memory, I was a POW, I now suffer from PTSD, or SHELL SHOCK! Even thought I never saw ANY combat, and only had 20hrs of "air combat" time, I am a mess, and I have a HUGE chip on my shoulder for doing 32 propaganda films and embarrassing my father. I know I can WIN a WAR if you'll let me, so vote for me and I'll start a couple of new WARS and see if I can???t finally get one of them WON!

Comment: Are they also going to address the First Amendment terror gap that allows someone on a terror watch list to speak, write a newspaper article, or worship whatever religion he or she chooses? No person should be deprived of a constitutional right because some nameless government bureaucrat suspects him or her of something, and this should hold just as true for the Second Amendment as it does the First Amendment.

Comment: This is so ridiculous. The terrorist watchlists are ineffective tools bloated with thousands upon thousands of names of innocent people. I guarantee you this bill would disappear tomorrow if it was amended to not only abridge the second amendment rights of people on these watchlists, but to also censor their first amendment rights so that they will not have the ability to recruit others or to incite terrorist acts. The same people right now nodding their heads in agreement with this bill would flip their sh|t. Ridiculous, just ridiculous.

Comment: the bill should be remained. disarm muslim act. all you have to do is have a muslim name or be muslim to end up on that absurd list

  • Posted By: HarleyisHere @ 08/25/2008 1:31:09 AM

Comment: Awe repigs, you're confused, if you don't vote for Obama, you a MORON not a racist. If you call him a MUSLIM, knowing he is not...you're a racist. If you're in that group of "older white males" who refuse to hear him, you're a racist.
As for "experience" ther are several 4 Star and lower Generals who say that being a prisoner does NOT a president make...and given mccains attendance record or rather his absence record of 61% gone, his congressional experience is questionable at best. Add to that the fact that for 8 yrs he has sided with bush 95% of the time and here goes the figures ;) :

    25 yrs in congress
Present 38% of the time = 9.5 yrs out of 25yrs
VOTED with bush 95% of 8yrs = 7.5 yrs out of 8 (for a total of 6 mos out of 8yrs mccain did not agree with bush)
Let's see our final number shall we.

Time in congress where mccain was just mccain and not a lap dog for bush = 2.5yrs

2.5yrs of actual attendance that was not just BUSH yrs, hmmm who else has just over 2.5 yrs senatorial experience less all the corruption of a John McCain...hmmmm..

Comment: McCain is soft on terrorism. McCain wants terrorists to be able to get guns- an anti-American mesure pushed by the NRA. McCain and the NRA, willing to sell guns to terrorists, and sell out the American people.

    • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 08/26/2008 9:58:02 PM

Comment: The democrats are adamant that no one be PROFILED, so terrorists can go around the nation quite freely! The way to keep them from getting as little as a 22 caliber hand giun is keep em out of the USA! It's OBAMA and the DNC who is soft on terrorism!
The World Trade Center was bombed while Clinton was President...and he did nothing! And pardoned some terrorist to end off his Presidencey!

    • Posted By: Screenplay @ 08/24/2008 11:42:00 PM

      Comment:

Like a terrorist is going to care whether some law or bill is passed putting restrictions on his or her ability to get a weapon of choice, the "gun". Doesn't matter how many like laws passed or inclusions, criminals break the laws not follow the laws..duh! Like that ever stops a determined criminal from getting a gun. A gun is not what we should be worrying about..there are weapons of mass destruction highly praised by terrorists over gun ownership--trivial and not even common-sensical for discussion. Wonder if the Canadian company has safely tucked away the weapons of mass destruction returned to her from Iraq?

This discussion is only beneficial for Late Night shows with Leno on " a terrorist walked into a gun shop to buy a gun"...sounds rediculous, is not logical and other issues are more pertinent.

Comment: The "Terrorist watch list" is an arbitrary list of names, much like the "TSA No-Fly List." There is no due process involved, no formal convictions, no right to confront your accuser -- someone in government simply decides "J'accuse!" and you're on the list. You want to suppress an individual constitutional right of a person who is innocent unless PROVEN guilty,k on the mere whim of a government functionary? We all know how well the No-Fly list works to oppress clearly innocent people -- anyone who wants to apply the same mechanism to gun ownership clearly has an ulterior motive.

Comment: "Until this spring, one of its congressional lobbyists was Randy Scheunemann, now a top McCain campaign adviser on foreign policy."

I see that John McCain is actually surrounding himself with good people, glad to hear it. If I hear Newsweek complaining about something, then its obviously a good policy. Let's put your whole staff on the "terrorist watch" and "no fly" lists and then we'll see how you feel about the lack of due process.........it might actually make your magazine worth reading.

Build better cockpit doors and Abolish TSA!

    • Posted By: HarleyisHere @ 08/24/2008 4:48:19 PM

Comment: Scheunemann just begs to question: what does John McCain's support cost? FO Georgia it was 800K, for BIG OIL it was 280K on 06/10/08....on06/16/08 the MAVERICK John McCain suddenly switched his position, his long held opposition to offshore drilling, its was odd, here a man with such principals, FLOPPING...but why? Oh yeah because by the end of July 08, $1,300,000.00 more came from BIG OIL. Obama has received from oil companies about 400K TOTAL since the begining of the primaries (19 months), McCain got almost 4 times that in just over a month...
"My friends, today (and for just 800K) we are all Georgians"...Sen John McCain.

Comment: It is well documented that the management of this "watch-list" is far from ideal and people end up on in who do not belong there. If a person has committed a crime, then charge them as such and due process will take its course. (including deportation if applicable). Otherwise leave Constitutional rights alone!

  • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 08/23/2008 5:54:47 PM

Comment: This loop-hole does not exsist. This article is an example of the discrimination campaign against firearms owners.
what the bill wants is arbitrary!
Like the gunshow loopehole and the mis-enumerated "assault weapon" controls of what are ordinary firearms, gun control advocates want americans to believe a Those Peoples' Rights Are A Threat! So that anything, no matter how extreme, which might (MIGHT) reduce the threat (or appear to) will make "sense!"
This is a theme and call to action discrimination campaign and Bush has done well to not fully embrace it!
News week and others have NOT done well in covering it AS a discrimination campaign as journalistic standards have deteriorated scince the 1960s.
The Liberals and the Left don't get it: Americans hate discrimination campaigns! And those that wage them!
Americans are a great people! Liberals can stop pardoning terrorists, if they are honest about what a terrrist at large might do.
And support tightening our boarders! And replenish the strategic fuel oil reserve!
News week! Be for real or be really not believed!
