Why has the West accepted this corrupted mafiosio as their ally? We are simply using NATO to encircle and cripple Russia. After Georgias genocide it is difficult to defend this war crminal.
Saakashvili should as an educated man, known that the support for this "democracy" was only a piece in US geopolitics to seize control over Eurasia (brzezinski). btw, the article left out how US has been putting pressure on Europe the last years not to condemn or critisise illegal actions of Georgia... Or read up a bit on how America assisted the "democratic process" in Ukraine. It is about time Russia starts defending themselves

There is an interesting suggestion from Steve Levine. The Russians have a big weakness. The West should keep in mind Russia's Achilles Heel while dealing with Putin and Medvedev. Levine knows this area, having covered wars in Chechnya, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Tajikistan as well as the Soviet-Afghan war: http://oilandglory.com/2008/08/russias-achilles-heel.html

Hi, Emilda, you are here too. Have you bought some stocks of oil companies and try to heat the situation to take profit? Let's build peace. Russia and the West are interdependent. The USA attacked Iraq, and the oil price became twice greater in some time. The oil price became twice greater, and it is harder for Americans to pay for their houses that were bought by hypothec. What will happen if you don't let Russia pump its energy to the West? I think the oil price will become twice greater slowly again. In such a way, the West can throw hundreds of Americans out of their houses.

Well for the starters I recommend reading THIS article here by a top Russian military analyst.

    http://www.robertamsterdam.com/2008/08/pavel_felgenhauer_on_russias_p.htm

And in the end I don't understand the whole sentiment of this article.
As for the destruction of Tskivali, you should note that as soon as the Georgian troops entered that small Georgian city which lies in the internationally recognised territory of Georgia Russia started mercilessly shelling it and bombing it from the planes FOR TWO DAYS NONSTOP! That was when the most of that city was destroyed and not because Saakashvili did something really wrong. Putin quickly claimed 2000 dead civilians and invaded Georgia, but now they say about 40 dead. The most of which btw have been killed by Russian cluster bombs and artillery.

So I don't understand were is that article going from here??

Also before 1994 over 90% of the population in South Ossetia were Georgians, today 0% ... This article should be called "Putin is a bloody criminal" and not anything else.

    James Thomson

Man, check your facts: Before the Georgian-Ossetian conflict roughly two-thirds of the population of South Ossetia was Ossetian and 25-30% was Georgian.

Mr. Thomson, have you ever heard, HOW the Georgian troops entered that small Georgian city? Certainly, you barely understand what's going on there. Thanks a lot to Anna for this professional report!
