It would have been better if McCain had said "I am a Bushman from Australia."

Sean actually makes some sense here. The media is always looking for that ???sticky??? moment to either catapult or sink a politician. We as Americans need to do our own research and figure out which candidate is best for us. The numbers are what they are???.just numbers and are not an accurate depiction of who Americans will REALLY vote for.

Here???s a hypothetical question: You are in a voting both, the ballot outlines the policies of Candidate 1 & Candidate 2. No mention of age, race, color, party affiliation or wealth. Who would you vote for? Probably the one that has your best interest in mind???Right? So why can???t we just close our eyes and take this approach with this upcoming election???

We as Americans need to vote for the best candidate to lead this country back to prominence and take care of home first. Regardless of their race, creed or color.

Ooooh, so Obama said "president" instead of "vice-president"!! I'll bet he knows how many houses he owns, which are Sunni and which are Shiia (which ones we're supporting on any given day may be in dispute, however), what type of car he drives, what countries border Pakistan, and how to pronounce the name of the leader of Georgia (McCain strangely couldn't, although the man was supposedly a GOOD friend of his> W

Obama doesn't know how many step- brothers or step- sisters he has or step-parents he has. Did I hear wrong or was his father still married to another woman when he married Obama's mother? I would think that knowing one's siblings would be more important than knowing how many houses one owns. After all the Obama campaign is saying that his childhood is his big story for this convention. More importantly, what has Obama done to help the least of his brothers or sisters that he is related too?

      • Posted By: MG of IL @ 08/24/2008 9:16:56 PM

Lori - The main problem here is that this step-brother (maybe other step-siblings?) were born in Africa, to Barack Obama's father AFTER he deserted Barack and his mother. Why should he be responsible for these people? Barack Obama was a small boy (around two) when his father left - what does he owe any of these relatives?

        • Posted By: loriw @ 08/25/2008 2:26:03 AM

Because Obama said on the Warren forum quoting from the Bible..."whatever you do for the least of these..." Obama is saying that we should all live by this and yet he does not model it himself with his own blood relatives. It does not matter that his father deserted Obama these relatives are still relatives and Obama knows the conditions that they live in because he visited them when he was an adult. Makes me think his words really are only that ...words.

He doesn't know how many states are in the Union. He doesn't know what committee's he is on or what chairmanships he has. He doesn't know that Biden has taken lots and lots of money from *GASP* Lobbyists and evil Credit Card companies. Obama apparently doesn't know that the Born Alive Bill he kept voting against actually did have the neutralization clause he didn't think it had...maybe he just didn't read it? Oh wait no, he voted to have the clause put in....then killed it in committee.

Alter, are you the new surrogate promoter/defender for the Joe Biden pick. Its almost as if he is your long lost cousin, and you will go to any length to say why he is the best possible pick so Obama can win. You should hide your stripes a little bit better in your effort to provide journalistic integrity.

Newsweek has received I am certain a huge sum of money for Obama ads for advertising and because of that Newsweek will not risk losing that revenue by printing anything even the least bit unflattering about Obama. These people know that at least temporarily Obama is indirectly paying their salaries. Just look at how many of these articles are Pro Obama and all the ones about McCain are negative. Look at articles that have Obama ads next to them and have Obama's campaign link at the end of the Obama article!

      • Posted By: Davole @ 08/24/2008 3:14:30 PM

        Lori -

        Your observation is "right on"!

George Soros and moveon.org have boasted that they have bought and own the obamabot campaign, and that shady group in turn sure appears to control Newsweek.

Have you noticed even one Newsweek article which actually praises McCain?

Don't hold your breath waiting for one either!

        • Posted By: loriw @ 08/25/2008 2:09:11 AM

I've been watching this for months and you know there was one that was about both McCain's and Obama's offices. As best I could tell it was "up" for less than 24 hours and it contained no substance except for the fact that Obama's office contained nothing in the file cabinets. I read a post from someone that stated essentially....a man (obama) that has nothing in his file cabinets is someone who has done nothing. That was a very perceptive reader who posted the comment.

  • Posted By: astrosnider @ 08/24/2008 6:59:53 PM

The reason McCain's comment is fair game and may "stick" in voters' minds is that he didn't give a reasonable answer to a simple question. He could have said something like, "We spend most of our time at our Washington condo and our Sedona ranch. My wife has several other properties, which are mainly for investment purposes."
For most of us, our home occupies a great deal of our mental and physical energy, from thinking about how we will pay the mortgage, taxes and insurance to keeping up basic maintenance and wondering whether the property is going down in value. For someone to be so oblivious to these important concerns of ordinary people that he doesn't even know whether he has one house or eight houses is to be seriously out of touch. A few years ago in Detroit McCain was asked what kind of car he drove and he didn't know that either. Again, he said lamely that he would have to consult his staff.

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 08/24/2008 7:07:59 PM

A reasonable question? Most senators have more than one residence - their "house" where their wives and under 21 children live, the apartment/condo in the state capitol or business center where they spend time with constituents, and the place they stay when Congress is in session. What makes it a question that specific reporter was interested in?

It was a set-up. It appears that he only owns one "house" which was what the person asked. He was smart enough to figure out that it was a trick question.

The Dems had the ad all ready to run and only wanted some video of McCain. It didn't matter what he answered.

If he had answered as you suggest, you can bet they would have lambasted him for being "evasive" or trying to hide how many "houses" he "owned, even if he didn't own them and they weren't houses.

McCain is becoming senile, that why he has Lieberman to help keep him out of traffic and other trouble.
Maybe McCain should be asked how many houses 150,000 Iraq war vets own, the answer is easier, it's Zero,
We have 150,000 homeless vets in America, and McCain opposed the GI bill but now trys to take credit for it.
I used to have some respect for McCain but the more I see of him the more I think he's a slime ball, and I hate a liar, senile or not.

"Does a guy who made more than $4 million last year, just got back from vacation on a private beach in Hawaii and bought his own million-dollar mansion with the help of a convicted felon really want to get into a debate about houses?"

Obama is the unnamed "political candidate" referred to in a section of the document that accuses Rezko of orchestrating a scheme in which a firm hired to handle state teacher pension investments first had to pay $250,000 in "sham" finder's fees. From that money, $10,000 was donated to Obama's successful run for the Senate in the name of a Rezko business associate, according to the court filing and the source.

Rezko, who was part of Obama's senatorial finance committee, also is accused of directing "at least one other individual" to donate money to Obama and then reimbursing that individual -- in possible violation of federal election law.

Obama donated more than $44,000 in Rezko-linked contributions to charity last year, including the $10,000 donation mentioned in the court filing.

That money was donated to Obama by Joseph Aramanda, a Glenview businessman and Rezko associate who, sources have said, is the ???Individual D??? prosecutors say received the $250,000 in finder???s fees demanded by Rezko. Individual D did nothing to earn those fees, according to prosecutors.

The $10,000 contribution to Obama was given in Aramanda???s name on March 5, 2004, records show. While Obama???s camp has said the senator did not know Aramanda, Obama???s office hired Aramanda???s son as an intern in 2005, at Rezko???s urging.

It is the economy, and more specifically taxes.
If Obama doesn't counter the "hes going to raise your tax's ad very strongly and very soon, that one ad could cost him dearly.

The fact is some 30 to 40 % of voters will go to the polls only vaguely aware of the candidates party affiliation and everything they know about the candidates is what they remember from the last ad they saw.
While this may sound very pessimistic and it is. At the same time you have to keep in mind some 30 % of Americans still think Iraq had something to do with the twin towers.
That is the result of and evidence of the effectiveness of the Republican propaganda machine.

Another is the support Bush has as a result of his tax cuts, and a guy making $40,000 is totally oblivious to the fact his tax rate is exactly the same as it was in 1999 his tax reduction was ZERO and he still will blindly support Bush, "because he lowered our tax's"

Hate to say this but about 40 % of voters are not smart enough to pour piss out of a boot.
The fact is even a person making minimum wage will vote against any thought of have higher tax's even if it doesn't affect him..

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 08/25/2008 12:24:13 AM

If the reduction in taxes on interest, dividends and capital gains expires, then all retirees will be paying more in taxes. Is that fair?

...good one, McCain Nation (i.e. Machination)

The "crafty scheme or cunning design for the accomplishment of a sinister end" is the overturn of Roe v. Wade with the help of the disgruntled Clinton supporters.

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 08/24/2008 10:46:15 PM

McCain won't be able to do anything without democratic approval in congress. It's basic checks and balances.

A lot less scary than a socialist with a democratic rubber stamp.

    McCain Nation (i.e. Machination)

As a former military officer, Senator McCain should never condone the maligning of another colleagues' reputation. The specious and malicious book written about Senator Obama is indefensible.

The dictionary defines "machination" as... "A crafty scheme or cunning design for the accomplishment of a sinister end."

To write a book titled "McCain Nation" detailing Senator McCain's sinister desire to become President of the United States so that he can strike militarily against all of America's "perceived" enemies would be completely and wholly fallacious and unacceptable.

...but then again...maybe it would be fair play!

Democrats are trying to do away with secret balloting on union elections. The democrats also defeated an amendment that would have allowed employees to put themselves on a "do not call" list to avoid union pressure to sign a card.

    Obama voted for this bill.
Check it out for yourselves. HR800

Wasn't one of Ross Perot's appeals that he already had plenty of money, so money wouldn't influence him?

  • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 08/24/2008 6:06:53 PM

Have all of you actually watched the question and answer? It was clearly an Obama set-up. The question was "houses" - not "homes" and "you" not "your wife."

McCain was astute enough to realize the fix was in, and instead of giving a glib answer, first considered answering about specific houses and condos (which are not houses), but thought better of it and said he would get back with the reporter. It wasn't that he didn't know what he owned, it was just that he realized it was a set up.

Trial lawyers use this tactic when they want to make a witness look bad. Obama tries to trick people into saying things, exposing a debater's strategy and mentality, not a search for truth. Here's a link that explores this sneaky side to "the one"

Hunter Biden, 38, described as a lawyer in the biography of his father distributed yesterday by the Obama campaign, lobbied for clients that paid his firm at least $380,000 in the first six months of this year, federal records show.
``It's always something to watch out for when you have a high-ranking member of Congress or an important senator whose child goes into the influence business,'' said Bill Allison, a senior fellow at the Sunlight Foundation, a Washington nonprofit that advocates transparency.
The senator's Web site describes Hunter Biden as a lawyer.
The Obama-Biden campaign had no comment.

Jonothan, This morning on ABC with George Stephenopolous, Rudy Giuliani was asked has he or others been vetted? Then, what I think was a gaffe or fruedian slip or perhaps I got it wrong, but please check it out and run the interview. I swear, talking about McCain's vetting and what Giuliani knew.....Giuliani said that Hillary doesn't need vetting. I watched George's reaction and he and I were kinda 'stunned' or waiting for Giuliani to say more. Why would Hillary be on McCain's list of possible VP's. I know it has been on my mind for month's now that they may do that, but I actually thought I caught a caffe by Giuliani. Please check it out. I don't trust Hillary Clinton or her husband at all, seeing Geraldine Ferraro on Fox network since April bothered me especially when she stated Karl Rove was advising Hillary on strategy against Obama. I wonder if this is the fluff of the Clinton supporters working both sides of the fence.
