Why a loss for Obumer is a win for America!
Why a loss for Obumer is a win for America!
You mean like we "won" when Bush took office? I don't know about you, but I can't afford to "win" like that again.
If you don't vote for Obama then you are a racist. We must elect Obama to prove to the world that we are not racist. Obama is such a superior candidate that if he looses it can only be because he is black. Blah, blah. Weisberg thinks he can guilt us into electing Obama. I say that we should defeat Obama so soundly so that the Democratic Party will never even think of electing such a radical, inexperienced, anti-American, Reverend Wright tolerant, unrepentant terrorist befriending, empty suit BLACK or WHITE.
A vote for McCain is a vote for World War III--nuclear edition.
a vote for Obama is a vote to let newborn babies die on a table.
Oh yeah, I forgot, it's only ok to kill people after they've been born, that's the Republican stance, right?
Don't like abortion? DON'T HAVE ONE. Who the F--K are YOU to tell someone what to do with their own body?
Yep, perpetual war (McCain), or move our country forward (Obama). That's the choice.
lets take a closure look shall we. "radical..anti-american..rev. wright tolerant" seems like maybe race is an issue with you. just take a look in the mirror thats all. wouldn't it feel so good to be honest and say "hey world im a bigot" nobody will blame you. thats the beauty of free speech
Obama camp downplays Clinton backers at convention
MyWay by Darlene Superville Aug 25, 2008
DENVER (AP) - Barack Obama's campaign dismissed concerns about the impact of die-hard supporters of Hillary Rodham Clinton on the choreographed show of unity Democrats were opening Monday at their nominating convention.
Opening night at the Pepsi Center, the main venue for the four-day Democratic National Convention, aimed to tell the Illinois senator's personal story to the millions of voters nationwide who will begin tuning in to the presidential campaign. Obama's wife, Michelle, was the evening's keynote speaker.
An emotional highlight was expected to come with a video tribute to Sen. Edward M. Kennedy. The liberal stalwart was diagnosed in May with a malignant brain tumor and has had surgery and a six-week course of chemotherapy and radiation.
Behind the scenes, however, polls showing significant Clinton support still being denied to Obama and pro-Clinton demonstrations at offsite venues were creating a different kind of anticipation. Clinton has backed Obama and was scheduled to speak Tuesday night.
"There are a lot of delegates here who had passionate choices in an extended primary season," Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs told "Today" on NBC. "We feel confidant that if we can demonstrate a record of change, a record of vision ... a team of Barack Obama and Joe Biden can convince Democrats, Republicans and independents to support a ticket of change in November."
Republican candidate John McCain tried to widen any schism remaining between primary-season rivals with a TV ad featuring a Clinton supporter who now backs McCain over Obama.
"She had the experience and judgment to be president," says Debra Bartoshevich, identified by the McCain campaign as a former Clinton delegate. Of McCain, she says: "I respect his maverick and independent streak, and now he's the one with the experience and judgment. A lot of Democrats will vote McCain. It's OK, really!"
Neither Obama nor McCain know squat about economics. They read scripts written by their advisers. The present housing/mortgage crisis was clearly caused by Bush's hand-off/all regulation is evil policies. Whoever wins the presidency this will change. However that will not help the present situation. It is bad and probably will be worse, and Obama will not be able to do much about it, even if he wins, which is highly doubtful.
The present housing mortgage crisis was caused by greedy people buying houses they couldn't afford on fishy "interest only"mortgages. It was compounded by greedy mortgage lenders who approved mortgages that people couldn't hope to pay, based on the (stupid) assumption that housing prices would continue to increase at the same quick rate. Americans are acting like kindergarteners, wanting a set of regulations to keep them in line. How about we just let the stupid people flounder with their fancy high priced McMansions, and leave the rest of us responsible people to continue on with life.
Greed of the people had nothing to do with it. It had to do with freed of the financial and lending institutions and with their successful lobbying that removed all regulations lending rules and control. And, this was mainly due to the Bush regime's policies. Gutless congress also played its usual role. But blaming on the victims is far off the mark. Of course they could have known, but if you are offered something for nothing would you not buy it?
Agreed. Way too many people were trying to be novice real estate moguls after watching too many episodes of The Apprentice. They were greedy and got caught. End of story.
off if only this problem was so black and white
WHO GIVES A CRAP WHAT CANADA OR MEXICO THINKS ! HEY, NOBODY WILL READ YOUR POST IF IT'S IN ALL CAPS!! DEE DEE DEEEEE
Mr. Weisberg, thank you for outlining this issue in clear, unambiguous, and unsensationalized terms. As a society, we seem forever on the hunt for new terms to describe behaviors and attitudes that have been part and parcel of the fabric of this nation since its founding. It's as if we hope that by overloading racism with all kinds of nuances, it will collapse under that weight. Yes, human beings can be unbelievably complex, but in our heart of hearts, there are things we hardly dare admit even to ourselves. We carry on the pretense of needing ever more information, and when we get it, proclaim we're still not sure about which way we will go. I hope that for the sake of our common future, people will choose the path of prosperity, instead of the path of unending war and chaos.
Oh please! Maybe they will just say that the US doesn't want an admitted cocaine user to be President.
funny because i'm old enough to remember when george W. bush hit a women drunk driving and admitted to cocaine use, oh but hes born again so thats cool. atleast he's not hiding it behind some BS faith card
It???s the economy and energy that???s holding him back. He thinks we should send hundreds of billions oversea instead of drilling for our own energy. Carter AND Gore speaking at the convention, both with no credibility on energy? Windfall taxes on Oil companies, ALL failed polices of the past when purports to be about change. Sound like old failed liberal polices from the 70???s.
yeah because the policies in the 1970's worked wonders. oil shortages unnecessary stagflation and billions of dollars of subsidies paid to oil companies (now totaling in the trillions) maybe if we'd been alittle more liberal than we wouldnt be so dependant on oil: foreign or domestic
There is nothing RACIST about being against this mulatto muzzie..
WE DO NOT NEED A MUZZIE PRESIDENT.....PERIOD.
uh yeah actually there is much racism iand bigotry n refering to someone as a mulatto muzzie, but thanks for playing.you win the prize of grand jackass for your life. congrats
Actually what makes you racist is your use of the word mulatto. what year are you from, 1808? Who under the age of 120, says mulatto anymore? Not only is your argument lame, your epithets are too.
Lol, seriously! Maybe it's because I'm part of the younger generation--26--but people my age don't think anything of mixed ethnicity. It's not a big deal. (Actually, on a superficial note, some of the most attractive people I know are from black/white parents.) However, I went to the biggest university in America, so I guess I'm a little more tolerant and enlightened than your average bigot like osamaobama.
Martin_gray...please spare me the LIBERAL TEARS, the crying and whining....you idiots put up a mulatto muslim as your standard bearer, so you must put up with what you falsely label as RACISM and BIGOTRY..
We want Americans to head our government, not muslims.....put up a REAL BLACK, and not a mulatto muslim, and then you can spread your accusations of racism
wait are you saying your not a racist... thats alittle confusing? i think the term mulatto was stirped sometime in the 1960's with the civil rights movement.
I have never been so ashamed of my fellow citizens as I have been reading this blog. I'm not a Muslim or black but it breaks my heart to see such hatred and out right bigotry posted. Osamaobama Jr.---you are the perfect example why the entire world hates us and wants us taken down a peg. If you are a McCain supporter, just say so. Don't hide out on the net spouting lies and idiocy simply because you and people like you are cowards. I bet you arent brave enough to say that foolishness in public, are you? Only in the anonymity of the internet can someone talk like that without taking any responsiblity. That crap might fly at your KKK meeting when your face is covered by a stupid white bedsheets, but in the real world, that racist, offensive, hurtful, and downright ignorant language would have you beaten by a mob. This isn't 1960 backwater Mississippi and the first Amendment can only shield you for so long. Wise up.
yeaaaah thats what im talking about
Mr. Weisberg, I agree with you completely. I have already heard voters saying that they wouldn't vote for Obama because he's black. Of course, they're the same voters ,who in a poll released today, couldn't identify Senator Biden - a senator for 35 years and chair of the Senate Foreign Relations committee! Not to mention a former Presidential candidate and former chair of the Senate Judiciary committee. I'm incredulous that some Americans believe that health insurance, a sane foreign policy, an end to a war we got into based on lies that is mortgaging our children's futures, and intelligent energy policies are considered liberal.
Maybe people think Obama talks a good game to get elected but won't deliver on any of his promises! He has changed his mind too often !!!
Why do you not recognize John McCain's own problem with 'flip flopping?" His greatest strength in 2000 was that he had strongly held convictions. I've lost all respect for him because of his own change of those convictions.
As a wm/62 and both a life long Democrat and active supporter of the civil rights movement of the 60???s who once saw my father spit on for giving his bus seat to a black woman, I truly resent this despicable example of the new radical left???s propensity to promote and twist racial politics and further divide the country.
It???s a given that just like religion, race is a factor in how people vote. That???s true for black???s and whites and all other ethnic groups as well. Something like 92% of polled black voters said they are supporting Obama either primarily or solely because he is black and acknowledged they had little or no understanding of his politics or experience. So if Obama wins, could it be said that he did so because of racial prejudice? Perhaps Weisberg has been so self-absorbed that he???s missed some of Obama???s own racial baggage: Black Liberation Theology and his relationship to his ???spiritual mentor???, the venom-spewing racist cleric Jeremiah Wright. Double standard, Jacob?
Obviously it???s inconceivable to this hack commentator that ???older white??? voters would pass on Obama for any other reason than his skin color. Well Jacob, here???s a concept you probably don???t want to consider but I suggest might be a little closer to fact. Many older white voters have enough experience (there???s that dreaded word again) to recognize that Barack Obama has none and has offered up very little substance to support his lofty promises of change. Inspiration and hope are wonderful but by themselves is not enough to sway thinking Americans especially those of us who are old enough to have lived through the Carter years and can see the similarities. Been there, done that and no thanks!
So Jacob, if you really want to explain away Obama???s lackluster poll numbers, you, like Obama, might want to focus on the real issues.
I too am an educated woman, life long Democrat and l also lived through the Carter years. I'm an Obama supporter for a number of reasons, not least of which is that McCain is the crumbling road to the past, and Obama is building a road to the future. We can't go back, we can't continue to hang on to old discredited policies and methods of dealing with our world. McCain's only positive is that he is a war hero. There is nothing else of substance to him. Can't boast of great intellect, (near bottom of his class) can't boast of integrity (Keating), can't boast of morality ( treatment of ex-wife), and finally he hasn't proposed one new idea. No, he wants to continue the failed policies of the bush administrationhasn't
This article is outrageoius. No one should NOT vote for Obama because he is black. Likewise, no one should VOTE for Obama becuase he IS black. To insinualte that America would have missed the opportunity to put the owrst behind us because we have not elected a black person is outlandish. Put a qualified black in his spot, and he would probably easily get elected. This piece misses the entire point,a nd focuses on all the wrong things.
What the article is saying is if Obama were white the poll count would not be so close. And this is made clear by the reasons as to why many whites will not vote for Obama, i.e. he is muslim, his wife is Angela Davis reincarnated, All that mess. Besides, some people have openly admitted that they will not vote for a black man. One woman said Obama scares her. McCains age and senility alone makes him unqualified.
There's a story in my local paper this morning about a person who has chosen to show support for Obama at the business he owns. One of his own regular costumers is quoted as saying, "i don't trust that 'colored boy." He's not alone in spouting this evil. I see and hear the same nonsense on a regular basis when I'm out and about.
I agree with Jacob Weisburg, the reason the poll number are so close is racism. Shame.
Absolutely nonsense to think we should vote for Barack Obama because there was slavery in America approximately 150 years ago. A white person with no more experience or credentials than Obama has would not even think about running for president of the USA. Geraldine Ferraro was 100 percent accurate when she said Obama would not being doing as well in the primary if he wasn't running as a black candidate. Everybody is sick of the race card being played to get Obama elected. Also, what happened to the U.S. law against paying for the crimes of your ancestors? Those of us alive today did not own any slaves, why should we pay for what happened at that time? Besides the slave market was ran from Liverpool, England. You don't see England electing a black leader because they operated the slave market. One other point, if I were a black person, I would consider myself extremely lucky to be living in America today instead of Africa regardless of how I got here. The only way to put racism behind us is to start treating everyone equal regardless of race, sex, age, religion, etc. I am going to vote for the person I think is the most qualified and the person I trust the most, and that will not be Barack Obama even though I am a democrat. Barack Obama is not a leader and I do not trust him to keep his word about anything he says, and I do not trust him to lead America in the right direction.
Has he proven to be untrustworthy? Does Obama scare you? Or is McCain, who can;t keep track of his own household or himself appeal to you as qualified. You know there is no comparison between the two candidates. Poor baby.
Judlseih: Yes Obama has proven to be untrustworthy, people with friends like Ayers, Rezko, Rev. Wright and the rest are not trustworthy! Who cares how many houses McCain has! Lets talk about who Obama lives next to, Rezko and who help him buy his house! McCain is the better candidate!!!
Let's talk Keating, John Hagee and McCain's affair with Cindy while he was still married to his first wife. Opponents and supporters of both men could play "tit for tat" all day.
Why does John McCain get a pass on his failings, but Obama is crucified for them? One word, "racism."
I agree with your comment 100%
This is a bunch of croc. You discredit racism exists, but then you spew the the type of views and venom of hatred in your comment. No wonder it's so hard for the country to change, people like you only see racism when it applies to you.Blacks? They are just whining and they should get over it ! When are you going to get over your line of thinking and be honest. I don't see you voting for Obama or any black politician, ever.
As a wm/62 and both a life long Democrat and active supporter of the civil rights movement of the 60???s who once saw my father spit on for giving his bus seat to a black woman, I truly resent this despicable example of the new radical left???s propensity to promote and twist racial politics and further divide the country.

You make some good points, m.mcc. The age difference between Obama and McCain is, I think, just as significant as the race difference. For the first time in my life, one of the candidates is younger than me. You stop and think, "I sure couldn't have handled being president when I was 47."
About focusing on the real issues, can there be any doubt that Obama would welcome such a discussion? He actually has well-developed and cogent policy positions. McCain, meanwhile, has an assortment of "me, too" positions that, taken as a whole, amount to 4 more years of Bush.
He wants to extend Bush tax credits that favor the wealthy, throw in another run at tax cuts for corporations, capital gains and estates, continue Bush's war in Iraq indefinitely, and simulateously drill for oil everywhere in the USA.
P.S. Tip on formatting: it's the "smart quotes" feature in Word that don't paste properly. Turn it off or use Notepad instead.
Kennedy and Clinton were young presidents, too, and did a fine job (at least in my opinion).
Yikes! For "don't paste" please read "doesn't paste." Yes, I think we'd all love to have an edit feature here.
Sorry for the double posting........I'm not sure how that happened
And for the formatting errors. I guess you can't cut and paste from Word. I'd edit this if I could.

The neighbors are already laughing their asses off. We are the laughing stock of the world because of our arrogance, greed and militant expansionism. We are already in decline, have been since Nixon.
We refuse to provide basic healthcare for a significant portion of our population, can't manage a straight forward popular vote election, can't figure out how to educate our youth beyond the basics.
We have consistently betrayed beliefs we supposedly hold dear, such as separation of church and state, the separation of powers, freedom from search and seizure, and that all are created equal.
We are already in decline - not even the election of a man such as Obama will fix that. Should he win, the racial backlash will be vicious; should he lose, the racial backlash will be vicious.
Our experimentation with democracy is failing - perhaps the British will take us back?
Then again, why would they want to?
I concur. Hopefully they'll let us use the Euro instead of the pound, though.
The audacity of this article. If Obama looses the election it won't be because of his race. It will be despite of his race, On the other hand, he has come as far as he has because of his race not despite it. Has any white candidate come as far with as much baggage and with as little experience?
Earlier DavidCa wrote:
???He wants to extend Bush tax credits that favor the wealthy, throw in another run at tax cuts for corporations, capital gains and estates, continue Bush's war in Iraq indefinitely, and simulateously drill for oil everywhere in the USA.???
You make good points as well DavidCa, but they are different topics than Weisberg's racist agenda driven harangue. Just a couple of quick thoughts:
Iraq. What???s being fed us by both sides is silly. I no more believe that Obama would ???cut and run??? than I believe McCain would have us there ???for 100 years???. This is a situation that needs to be resolved as quickly as possible without sacrificing the gains that have been made. Both these guys know that and their rhetoric is just throwing red meat to the faithful. My guess is that both men would probably end up with similar time lines and results.
Taxes and spending. I don???t think Obama???s ???tax the rich??? scheme will work by itself. There just isn???t enough money in that segment to pull us out of the mess we???re in much less fund new programs. I think we need to be especially careful with the capital gains and the estate portions of this because it???s becoming a problem for many middle and upper middle class people as they retire and then pass along their estates when they die. There???s no way around it, us middle classer???s are going to get hit again. We???re going to pay more and get fewer services no matter which side wins.
Energy. I???m as sick of hearing that offshore drilling is going to solve this problem as I am of hearing that solar panels and windmills are the only answer. The reality is that in order to fix this we???re going to need all of the above and then some. We need a long-range multifaceted plan for domestically produced energy that will fill our future needs for oil, natural gas and electricity. There???s no single solution and there will have to be sacrifices. In spite of what everyone wants to hear, there are no simple solutions to complex problems.
