I see a man who has zero foreign policy experience, explains his "change" with zero details, and is so ill prepared for the job he is pursuing as to hire Biden as his poster child VP to counter the issues. What I do not see is a black man running. I once heard Andrew Young state that the largest racist community he knew of was the black community. Seems he was spot on. Time to turn in my subscription to Newsweek. What trash they elect to publish.

As you can see these issues were attacked in this speech on Thursday. Obama has a plan that he has faith in. Why shoud be change his plan just to counter negative attacks by a man who can't even spell out his own plan for America. The reason why Obama defeated Clinton and will defeat McCain is because he has a plan, sticks to it, does not get caught up in slandering and smears, is organised and will remain so. It has nothing to do with race.

I guess there are more sexists than racists in the country since Obama won the primaries and was nominated.

I have lived in this country for 61 years now.
I have a lot of friends, all of them white, from both sides of the political isle.
What surprises me is how many of them are actually afraid of Barack Obama.
They come up with all sorts of reasons why they will not vote for him but for them the only real reason they dislike him is because he is "a black person."
I like the man for all the right and quite obvious reasons...these times call for and demand the best educated person be elected to this position -he is beyond any reasonable doubt the best person for the job.....
I would vote for him if his skin color were chartreuse!

Education is all well and good BUT I prefer the education of experience and, to date, Sen. Obama is woefully lacking in experience.

  • Posted By: Cookiemaker @ 08/28/2008 11:45:06 PM

This is a typical blanket statement made by an elitist. I won't vote for Obama because he is so far to the left. It has absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin or his racial makeup. When will the liberals get rid of their own bias? If you HAVE to vote for someone because of their race it is prejudice.....and it works both ways. So, Mr. Weisberg, quit pointing your finger at me and other voters who will not vote for Obama. When you do you have 3 fingers pointing back at you showing that you are 3 times the racist I would ever be.

I am offended by the insinuations from Mr. Weisberg that if I don't vote for Obama I am somehow racist. Never mind that he is most assuredly unqualified to be president by his lack of experience and extreme left wing ideology. Shame on Newsweeek for giving such poor journalism a platform on its web site.

Mr. Weisberg, did it ever occur to you that the reason some of us don't want Obama as a President has nothing to do with his color? It is because we do not think he is capable of managing our country. We do have freedom of speach, unless you forgot, and how dare you charge racism. What does it say when 90% of the black voters are voting for Obama. Using your assumption, wouldn't that be reverse racism?

If you truly believe this you must also believe that all the young girls in America today must now believe that equal opportunities for women is a myth. Women throughout history have been treated as chattel, as personal property, and often akin to slaves. Yes, it happened in this country and is still extremely prevalent in many parts of the world today. Does it truly mean that every time a person from a group that has been persecuted in the past loses and election the only reason has to be is strictly because everyone who voted against them is prejudiced. To draw that conclusion says that every democrat who voted for Obama, and much of the media, are sexists and were opposed to Hilary simply because she was a woman. I don't believe that, but that is the problem with narrow analysis that looks only at one critical piece of information to make that analysis. Make no mistake, this election was very important to women who lived through the 50's and on to today, fighting salaries and job opportunities that favored their male counterparts, whose mothers and grandmothers fought to be able to own property and the right to vote. What was more distressing to us than obviously most men understand was how quickly that struggle was brushed away in the rush to accept a man, be he black green or purple, and act as if our struggle was somehow frivolous because we are just women. Do I now just assume the author of the article is either insensitive to the plight of women throughout history or is just a sexist? What does that say to our neighbors?

What a pathetic attempt to blackmail voters with the brand of racist if they don't vote for an unqualified, inexperienced candidate who shares his leftist ideology. This is not by any stretch of the imagaination journalism. What a great reason no longer read Newsweek.

  • Posted By: AZRN @ 08/28/2008 9:09:46 PM

Horrible, horrible and completely irresponsible, Mr. Weisberg. You should be ashamed.

  • Posted By: psmith928 @ 08/28/2008 9:01:55 PM

So if we don't vote for Obama, we are all racist? Now that is some responsible journalism. Wonderful decison to put that in a national magazine with a good brand name. Bravo Newsweek!

Mr. Weisberg has lost all credibility with this drivel and should be shown the door - immediately - before Newsweek's brand is tarnished further. Point out the differences between candidates. Debate their positions relative to national needs. But to sway voters with this type of social commentary is just unconscionable.

I voted for Alan Keys (black) in the 1996 and the 2000 primaries. Does that mean I can vote for John McCain with a clean conscience? So all the people who didn't vote for Alan Keyes in the 1996 and 2000 primaries are they all racist as well? I am sure I will get a lot of "who is Alan Keyes?" on this as well.

Jacob, do try to calm down. I'm ready to vote for Obama in November - it just may not be this November.

Dems choose Obama in thunderous acclamation
Yahoo News by David Espo, AP Special Correspondent Wed Aug 27, 7:18 PM ET

Clinton's call for Obama to be approved by acclamation ??? midway through the traditional roll call of the states ??? was the culmination of a painstaking agreement worked out between the two camps to present a unified front.

    My commentary:

So, democrats, in order to portray a false unification, schemed to allow politics to trump the democratic process.

And they are insulted when people don???t refer to them as the democrat(ic) party!

Yes, the truth is offensive to the democrat party!

Obama does not have the adequate credentials to be this great nation's commander in chief. He has spent one term in the Senate which for the majority of the time he has been campaigning for this years election. McCain may not be as charismatic or likable, but he does have the experience that is imperative for a president to have. Shall we recall the last time we elected a president solely for the reason that they had yet to be corrupted by Washington politics. I think that it is safe to say Jimmy Carters' presidency was sub-par
