Michelle Obama spoke like a true American. Her story was similar to a lot of working class families. I do not know many of the politicans wives in Washington that can say that they have the same story. I believe she truly represented women last night! I am so proud of my country for allowing a women like Michelle Obama to achieve the American Dream! It is now Michelle who I loook to and not Hillary. Hillary has showed a different side of herself to many women and I am happy she is out! Bill made her look bad and that's what hurt her!

Yes, true Americans have never been proud of their country before their spouse ran for the presidency. Her story was similar to a lot of working class families - we all grew up with her type of priviledge. ... I think you may have had an excessive amount of that koolaid

Here we go again! What is the point of Obama supporters who criticize Hillary? Obama needs Hillary supporters, and this is just the kind of haughty divisive language that is a turn off

Obama is a pay to play Chicago politician who expects votes to be delivered instead of trying to earn them for himself. Here's an Obama Tale for you about how politicians in Chicago deliver votes for their overlords. In a campaign influenced by Walmart, instead of backing the pro-labor candidate, Obama backed a "Walmart tool."

There was little surprising about Obama's endorsement given his self-interested allegiances to the politically powerful City Hall regime of Chicago's Mayor Daley, with whom Obama shares the same big money campaign super-consultant (David Axlerod) and numerous big money sponsors.

For the first time Mayor Daley had vetoed an ordinance by his normally obedient City Council, and he did not want the council to bring the measure up again. It was originally passed by the council under pressure from a remarkable grassroots campaign, and would have required giant retail corporations like Wal-Mart, Target, Lowes, and Home Depot to pay workers a modest minimum wage of ten dollars an hour by 2010.

Wal-Mart and Target announced that they were putting a number of "big box" retail developments on hold in Chicago, and launched a preemptive public relations strike, threatening to disinvest in the city unless a "favorable business climate" was restored. Daley made a special point of wrapping his veto in the flag of racial justice, claiming it was required to permit the flowering of economic development in the city's abandoned ghetto neighborhoods.

Pat Dowell, the recipient of significant support from the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU), was running against Tillman, and Dowell had strongly criticized Tillman for siding with Daley and Wal-Mart.

Obama needed the support of the powerful campaign finance magnet Daley, and endorsed Tillman, over labor-backed Dowell.

Obama's wife Michelle then received $51,200 in 2006 for attending a few board meetings of TreeHouse Foods, a giant firm that relied heavily on its close business relationship with Wal-Mart. The granting of high-pay/do-little board posts to the spouses of politicians is a longstanding tool of the "old," corporate-dominated politics that Senator Obama claims to reject.

Mrs. Obama resigned from her position with TreeHouse in the summer of 2007, citing "increased demands on her time" in connection with her husband's presidential campaign.

    • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 08/27/2008 3:23:04 PM

what you forgot to mention is that wal-mart had already started building two stores and then the city of chicago changed zoning on them and had to re-submit new plans to the zoning comm. witch were denied a building perwit of course ! p.s. the wal-mart building projects were in the first stage of clearing and grading !

A BIG FAKE! People do not change that fast. Obama's background and the church he attends should be the things you look at. If you want to know someone then just look at his his friends. Many are disregarding this. The passion you all hear is from greed and wanting to win and get fame. This is all hype. Obama and Michelle does not look like Presidential quality. Not even close. Obama's background should not be ignored.

Dont worry about. . . there are plenty of us who will not vote for him given that very thing. The lack of judgment and integrity and lack of character given the long laundry list of friends, peers, associates, fundraisers, those who endorsed him (albeit he rejected the likes of the Hamas and Farrakhan, still scary), his pastors, their hateful racist, anti-American sermons, and at his core is a race-concious liberal. Nobama.

I was amazed at the sincerity of Hillary Clinton's speech! She is so bright and has so much common sense. I think she is a wonderful, strong human being and would beat a white male blue eye any day! You Go Barack.. The intelligence of your team is what set you so much appart from the republican morons!

Tonight, Bill Clinton mus not only endorse, he MUST EMBRACE OBAMA. He must say:
    1. I know what it takes to be President
    2. I know Obama
    3. He has what it takes to be President
    4. These are his qualities
    5. These have been his accomplishments
    6. This is his vision
    7. These are his values
    8. I know him
    9. I trust him
    10. He is ready to lead
    11. He is ready to be Commander in Chief
    12 Good night

Has Obama told us any of these things? So how do you possibly expect Mr Clinton to do so?

      • Posted By: josemarti @ 08/27/2008 12:13:00 PM

Mr. Obama has been saying these things about himself. Read his book the Audacity of Hope. Bill Clinton should quote from it.

        • Posted By: oklok @ 08/27/2008 12:57:18 PM

Since you speak for your candidate answer one of those questions. Persuade a Clinton supporter with your own knowledge and endorsement. If you know the origin of the title you would know his values at that time.

          • Posted By: josemarti @ 08/27/2008 2:37:02 PM

Why do I have to repeat myself? Somebody, somewhere, sometime, (and who better than Bill Clinton, in Denver, TONIGHT, not tomorrow, not the next day, not next month) has to say:

            1. I have known Barack Obama for a long time
            2. I know what it takes to be President of the United States
            3. he has what it takes.
            4. these are his qualities
            5. these are his values
            6. this is his vision
            7. those are his goals
            8. these have been his formative experiences
            9. those his intellectual roots
            10 those his spiritual roots
            11. I embrace him.

You are right. That is exactly what Bill Clinton SHOULD say. It is certainly what the party and Obama wants him to say. I doubt he will reach that far. I think, like Hillary, he will give a good speech that will be focused on policy similarities while linking McCain to Bush. I am hoping for more than that from him, but I wouldn't bet on it.

      • Posted By: oklok @ 08/27/2008 2:08:31 PM

First Sen Clinton and now you want Mr Clinton to do Obama's job? Have you forgotten Biden the VP? Hello. The voters will not be voting for either Clinton. And what kind of president hides out until Mr Clinton has spoken? What kind of democrat doesn't realize how counterproductive and just plain nasty it is to bash either of them? Do you really want Obama to win? Because none of you are acting like it.

Gullibility is not listed in the psychiatry manual today, but it's pretty dysfunctional in real life. If you fall for just about any used car salesman, or any danceaway lover, or any telemarketer, or any smarmy politician, you're going to make big mistakes. It could cost you your country. It's not surprising that hustlers like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama rise to the top of the Democratic Party. What continues to astonish the saner fraction of the world is the abject gullibility of their followers. If the libs ever wised up, the Democratic Party would have to go out of business. But there's no danger of that. There's another one born every minute. They call them infants, and if they're liberals they never have to grow up. What staggers me is the lib masses -- "masses" is a very Marxist word -- who always come back for more, even after they find out they've been duped again. These are the people who are honestly disappointed by John Edwards's cheatin' heart. They were shocked by Monica's Blue Dress -- but not enough to blame Bill Clinton. He was an innocent victim.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 08/27/2008 1:33:32 PM

Who is more gullible the person that believes it when their candidate say they are going to help the lower and middle classes or the perosn believes it when their candidate say they are going to help the rich and it will trickle down to the lower and middle classes?

      • Posted By: oklok @ 08/27/2008 2:25:39 PM

How gullible is the person who still believes that Obama's speech about Iraq was meaningful when his actions made obsolete his supposed judgment?

crookedgov- Neither does a wimpy candidate like Obama. Because of his unwillingness to fight the smears and produce a backbone he is losing his lead or in the case of the most recent Gallup poll lost his lead. Sen. Clinton would never have let the past several weeks of negative ads by McCain go unresponded to. We will lose this election because Obama is not only a weak candidate but a weak willed person in general.

    • Posted By: kshortSD @ 08/27/2008 2:16:01 PM

How do think a "weak person" managed to beat Hillary Clinton in a match that she SHOULD HAVE WON? Because he is not willing to sink to the level of his competition with nasty attacks and many people are choosing hope over fear. In a world where ego and machismo still dictate how many men act, he is being stronger than most by staying above the garbage. And he will win.

Michelle Obama delivered a beautifully written speech, and she delivered it very very very well. But who would expect anything less? She obviously is an extremely intelligent woman. She is a Harvard law graduate. Of course she can write (or help write) and deliver a great speech. The real question is: is her husband ready to be our President? I for one do not think he is. And I don't want to take a chance with our country in his inexperienced, albeit intelligent and eloquent, hands.

    • Posted By: lisainFL @ 08/26/2008 1:40:16 PM

I am sorry to inform you but Barack Obama is READY to be our next president---and he WILL! Think about this ---do you really believe that McCain is ready to be our next president when he said that he will keep Bush's taxes? McCain is old and we need change---McCain is out of touch and so are you! You probably voted for Bush and REALLY thought that he was ready to be president and he was only the governor of Texas and had never been out of our country! Give me a break people like you really need to evaluate the facts before you say someone is ready or not! When a public figure's comments are twisted and reported in a biased fashion, the hate mongers can use them in any way they see fit. How can thinking Americans even consider Hillary as a candidate looking back at her history and Bill Clinton's history in the White House? Fraud, deceit, moral decline made public...good grief, people....WHAT are you thinking? As for Obama's background.....take the time to really look at it. No history of fraud, no history of deceit, no history of marital unfaithfulness. If we were all judged by our friends, I hate to think what this country would become! As for the church we attend....I certainly don't have any influence over what my pastor preaches from the pulpit on Sunday, and I don't have any control over his freedom of speech. Can't we just have open minds and agree that this country needs something different than what we've been forced to endure over the past eight years? Give the man a chance!!!!

    • Posted By: judithod @ 08/26/2008 12:16:14 PM

Hillary has a record of achievements; Obama has a record of opportunities but no achievements to show for those opportunities. He is a "fiction" created by the Democrats in their demonic desire to win the presidency.

      • Posted By: MusicCityDawg @ 08/27/2008 2:01:43 PM

You don't have any influence over what your pastor teaches on Sunday? OK. I will grant you that. But you don't have to continue to attend the church for 20 years. Why did Obama stay at a church whose pastor asked God to damn America? Whose pastor believes the CIA introduced the AIDS virus into the black community? Whose pastor believes there are basic differences in the neurobiology of blacks and whites? Who welcomes the likes of Father Pflagel? Who views Farrakhan favorably? That spews anti-Semitism? Why did Obama stay at that Church? Marry at that Church. Have his children baptized at that church? Chicago is a big city and it has many many other places of worship.

You and no one else have a right to question someone religious belief. This election has gone to far, there is something wrong about every religion if they do not go along with your belief. Religion is personal. Caucasians have done so much wrong in their lives, lynching, beating, wrongful conviction for looking at a Caucasian. Caucasians have gotten rich off the backs of African Americans. Now you want African Americans to stay in the rear. Wake up, the person next to you might be African American because according to the Caucasian law one eight drop of blood makes you an African American. Do not be afraid of an African American we have learned how to get along with you. That is why Caucasians are scared of success stories of educated African Americans. Let's move on.

        • Posted By: News and Notes @ 08/26/2008 12:16:48 PM

There were no racial overtones in the post you are responding to. It is confusing as to why some Obama supporters can't understand that there are legitimate concerns with Obama's lack of experience on the national scene. Obama shies away from debates, town hall meetings, and interviews with challenging reporters. He has been in Chicago for over 20 years, and we are trying to get to know him to assess his candidacy better. That is not racism. If he were white the same concerns would exist.

          • Posted By: pimpnamedslickback @ 08/26/2008 7:20:26 PM

There ARE racial overtones in this post--first thing out the gate on this comment is trotting out the same old tired Rev Wright, Farrakan, Pflagel (funny how this man didn't get the raking over the coals treatment) stories. If Obama were white there wouldn't be all this drama; you would have simply voted for someone else. More white fear of the "big black buck". Reagan starred alongside chimpanzees but he was considered qualified for Prez. Last I checked HRC hadn't been president either--where's the experience?

            • Posted By: News and Notes @ 08/26/2008 9:46:25 PM

The racial overtones came from those Obama supporters. I would love a black president, but i am not convinced Obama has the experience on the national scene. There are blacks who are concerned as well. HRC was one of the youngest ever in the top 100 lawyers, she is a brilliant observer and listener, which served her for 12 years in Little Rock, 8 years in the white house, and 8 years in the US senate. I am annoyed that Mrs,. Obama and some Obama supportes don't properly acknowledge hillary supporters, Race has no part in the discussion.

It was not Hillary's job last night to sell Obama. He is the only one who can do that. What she had to do was ask her supporters why they would support McCain after supporting her when McCain doesn't support anything she believes in such as universal healthcare. She also had to show it was okay she wasn't on the ticket by acknowledging Biden as a good choice.

As much as I want Obama to become our next President, I know it will never happen. America don't want to talk about race, but it is a factor. White America just can't accept the fact that their is a slight chance a black man can become POTUS. They will say anything and degrade the man before he becomes President. This goes back to the O.J. Simpson case. So much in the case for reason of doubt, but White Americans said O.J. was guilty. You didn't hear them say anything about the other stars who murdered their wife. Not even William Shatner who came home and found not just one of his wives but two dead in his pool.
Today, World Leaders convinced me today that Obama could never become the next President. World Leaders said "America will never put their pride aside and pick the person who will invest in America. Instead, they would rather watch the economy fall then see somebody like Obama in the White House." This comment went mostly to white Americans.
I am convinced that Obama will not become the POTUS. But I promise you, 50% wanted Hillary and 50% wanted Obama. What goes around, comes around. The other 50% will not vote for Hillary. I guess we will have 16 years of a Republican sending Americans to war and putting the rich over the middle class and the poor.

    • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 08/27/2008 12:52:01 PM

I forgot to address your comment about OJ, to be honest I believe that he is guilty of either killing them or assisting in it somehow. I personally never understood why so many blacks were rooting for this man, he has not been black since he absolutely had to be in addition he has a long history of abusive behavior.

I also believe that Robert Blake is guilty, they both got off, which is too bad. William Shatner, since I really do not know much about this I cannot comment.

      • Posted By: chindognyc @ 08/27/2008 1:06:05 PM

I think he is guilty also. The reason why I brought it up was becasuse at that time, we were against each other. Blacks and whites did not agree and at the court house, they seperated the blacks from the whites. When will this end.

        • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 08/27/2008 1:54:54 PM

    • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 08/27/2008 12:19:05 PM

      Hi Chin,

My parents feel the same way. They have said all along that there is no way that this country will allow a black person to be president in their or my life time. They have listed all of the *Differences* in this election that were not present in past campaigns. I really want to believe that they are wrong this is 2008! Yet from what I read daily on these and other boards, the fact that Obama HAD to have Secret Service protection the day he announced his candidacy, the fact there there have been numerous death threats to him. It is just history repeating itself. Malcolm, Martin, John & Bobby, any one who trys to get us past the racism is a target in this country.

I am hopeful but there are entirely too many Harriet Christians and people like the 3 men, who stated that they wanted to assassinate Obama, in this country, and regardless of what anyone else claims, it is ONLY because of the color of his skin. Unfortunately, these cretins represent a very large group of voters in this country both Democrats, Independents & Republicans and they are not embarrassed at all, they openly celebrate their hate, just look at some of the blogge here. Some of these animals would vote for a dog before they would ever consider voting for a person of color.

    • Posted By: josemarti @ 08/27/2008 11:17:01 AM

Gerson says that Hillary did not muster up disdain for Sen. McCain as though that was a bad thing. Yes, it is important to energize your voting base; and yes, such attacks are standard-issue in an effective campaign, but isn't it possible that people are getting just a little tired of watching our politicians exchange insults like third-graders at recess? We are smarter than that, and I personally applaud Hillary for behaving with class.

    • Posted By: oklok @ 08/27/2008 1:43:52 PM

Why is it her job? Voters aren't going to see her name on the ticket in November.

I am so tired of the HRC supporters hiding behind their ignorant rants, if you were a Hilary supporter, how can you not be a supporter of the democratic party, she said in her speech last night that, if you supported her then you need to start supporting Obama, because that's who she's supporting.
People please wake up, all the bullsh*t bickering is time wasting. We have struggled too long under republican rule. Mr. McCain is more of the same, he doesn't care about the middle class, he only cares about the upper class, now if you are in this class you don't have any worries, but if you fall into the middle classmen, who have fallen on serious hard times you have no choice but to vote democratic, we cannot afford 4 more years of republican rule.

Please stop your attacks. How is it helping? Re-read your words and highlight where you explain why her voters should vote for Obama. If you need to vent - do it by yourself. You are directly hurting your candidate. That is if you really want him to win. You aren't showing it.

That was something I did notice. Clinton spoke very eolquently as opposed to a few months ago. However, I also agree that her speech was a subtle statement to her personal causes and not the promotion of Barack Obama. It was far between statements that she even said his name which was maybe 3-4 times. I'm not stepping on Clinton but she lacked excitement for the candidate as opposed to her excitement toward her causes. She needed to attack McCain as hard as she attacked Obama in the primaries. She didn't do that. Someone needs to step up for Obama before he steps on stage Thursday. Someone needs to outline the Bush/McCain failures and outline Obama's vision. No one has done that yet. Hopefully Mr. Clinton will come around today.

      "I'm not stepping on Clinton"

That is exactly what you are doing.

Hillary is just too good at stealing the spotlight with her pant-suit. But i'll give it to her, she could'nt be any more clear at uniting the democrats. One thing was evident, she kept strssing on saying females more than saying supporters. I'm sure even men voted for her. But noooo it had to be all about the women. Thank God she's not running. Now if Obama can stop being a preacher and have a plan.

Does writing this make you feel better? Because it is not helping your candidate.

"NEVER LET UR LFT HAND KNOW WHAT UR RIGHT HAND IS DOING" ANY KIND OF PLAN HE LAYS OUT IN DETAIL WILL BE STOLEN BY MC & TAKEN AS HIS OWN....LIKE TARGET DATES 4 ENDING THE WAR; THE REST WILL BE DISSECTED 2 THE NTH DEGREE & "SO-CALLED" EXPERTS CALLED IN 2 SAY WHY IT WON'T WORK. I'M SATISFIED 2 KNOW WHAT HE STANDS 4 & LV IT TO HIS CABINET & HIM 2 FIGURE OUT THE DETAILS...STOP FINDING FAULT!
