And what a cute kids they have!! those girls are adorable. It will be fun to have them in the white house. Finally, a true american family!!

    • Posted By: edupro @ 08/26/2008 7:36:34 PM

So, if the kids weren't cute, then this would not be a true American family? Perhaps the focus on WHite House residents should be on being plainly qualified.

The comment by "tired and old" is either a GOP strike (dirty politics weren't invented by you) or you are a raving lunatic. This is not a substantive comment for or agent; this is a rant. Have you nothing better to do? Go to church and get on your needs and stay there until you either return to sanity or go to sleep.

To Obamasuxx. You speak of parroting lines!? You insist on parroting the republican smear machine's attack on Michelle based on one line taken out of context. The republican party has a history of character assassination and smear campaigns designed to dupe the uneducated.  In the last campaign we had the spectacle of Republican chief strategist Karl Rove and crew and their "swift-boating" of John Kerry.  They connived to discredit with a vicious and false smear campaign his very real military service in Viet Nam (for which he was decorated with three Purple Hearts, a Silver Star, and a Bronze Star).  Why?  Because our great president Bush through his father's influence sat out the war in an Air National Guard Base in Alabama - where he didn't even to bother to show up for training a significant portion of the time - while Cheney had "other priorities" during Vietnam (he got himself a student deferment and went off to College).  And so instead of a genuine war hero, we got these incompetent chickenhawk cowards who went off half-cocked into this misadventure in Iraq resulting in the death and maiming of tens of thousands of innocent people, some of them friends of mine.
In sharp distinction, you will note that Democrats are quite willing to praise the sacrifice of another worthy soldier, John McCain.  Instead of smears and character assassination, they celebrate his service and are willing to have an honest debate with the Republican campaign on issues of substance: the shattered economy, the lack of health care for all, the crippling national debt, etc.  But yet again, the republicans can not really defend thir failed policies and abysmal record, and so the Republica smear machine is cranking out its filth.  "Obama has a funny name, he's not really patriotic, he doesn't say the pledge of allegiance, he won't wear a flag pin, he does not display a flag on his campaign plane, he may be a Moslem, he's not like 'us', etc, etc."  Obama has enough of a handicap in this still all-too-racist nation without having to deal with outright lies like these.  But, sadly, lies work when you have a large portion of the populace who do not bother to test the veracity or misleading nature of smears.

TONIGHT BUBBA WILL BE GETTING A GIRL CORNERED; WHILE, THE WICKED WITCH PLEADS FOR AN ASSASSINATION MIRACLE.

HILLARY WILL NO DOUBT SMELL UP THE CONVENTION WITH HER WORDS OF LIES.

HEY ! IS THAT JAMES CARVILLE UP IN BALCONY ?

THE DEVIL HAS SENT OUT INVITATIONS TO THE CLINTONS TO ATTEND THE LOSER PARTY, HOPE THEY ACCEPT.

Let's see Michelle gives a speech writen by professional speechwriters and you guys are all swooning....please! These are not her words and feelings they were written by somebody else so she is no better than a parrot!

Michelle's true feelings came out when she said she was "Proud of her country for the first time in her adult life".... So we know the real Mrs. Obama and the fake we are being sold...sorry Obama but KEEP THE CHANGE.

"The Democratic convention may lack the excitement and scandals of the Olympics (though Obama does look suspiciously young), but the venues this week offer some drama of their own."

Too young to have the needed experience.

That's what they said about JFK and Clinton.

I can assure you that Obama is no JFK!

        • Posted By: bennettsusan @ 08/26/2008 1:12:52 PM

StLouisMan: How can you possibly state with such certainty that Obama is no JFK? Do you know them personally? We know that JFK was an inspirational president. If Obama does get elected we will find up how he holds in that same arena. In the meantime, the entire Kennedy family seems to find resemblances between the two. That hold much more water for me than your statement otherwise.

You are, however, right about a few things. Obama has not had the tiniest of advantages that JFK had, namely, inheritance of millions, family name, and oh....being a white man. This does not discredit JFK, he didn't choose any of this. It merely highlights Obama's huge accomplishments.

          • Posted By: Smart Democrat @ 08/26/2008 5:47:25 PM

Give me a break no one has had the opportunities the Kennedy's have had even other white people. I am sick of hearing about how poor Obama was growing up. He went to private school. He was not in a single parent home long. His mom remarried and they moved to Indonesia. He went to Harvard . Man I feel sorry for him

Clinton: governor of a state for 12 years. Kennedy- US congress and senate for 14 years. Obama - speeches in 2002 and 2004, US senator for 2 years.

Michelle was AWESOME. She is bright, assertive, self-assured and right on target.
Some of the Republican commentators (on CNN ) after the speech were naively arrogant to suggest that her speech didn't have enough meat; that she ONLY talked about the human element in her husband and in their family. Well, that WAS the purpose of her speech. Michele O. will probably be THE most significant First Lady to be in the White House since Jackie Kennedy. She is NOT a trophy wife, she is not standing behind her husband. She is standing WITH her husband!!

George W. and John McCain BOTH had very influential fathers who "paved the way" for their sons to do well; in spite of the lack of focus of those two men in their 20's.

John McCain might be a good man and make a decent president; Barak Obama and Michele are extremely capable and very smart and he will be a GREAT President of the United States!!!

Right now, GOP stands for "fear mongers" and "cynicism" and elitism. Trickle down economics is a myth!!! .

    • Posted By: catspaw @ 08/26/2008 5:06:42 PM

Not just Jackie K. but also Eleanor Roosevelt. Now, there was a First Lady for you. She does seem to have both of their strenghts, and like you said, Stand With Your Man type woman.

Obama is no saviour. He's a politician, albeit one with great oratory skills and the talent to inspire, something this nation is in great need of. Sorry, folks, this isn't John Wayne's America anymore, never will be again. The rest of the world is moving on, new ways of doing things, new ways fo approach new problems. McCain and the repubs offer us a 20th century response to 21st century issues. Follow those losers and the nation loses.
Unfortunately, maybe we need to hit rock bottom before we wake up and see what the rest of the civilized world sees. My pessimistic side says we won't, that we will opt for a past that never really existed, all out of stubborness, fear, and the belief that we have some divine right to pig-headedness. Sorry, if we don't get back to inspiring the world and instead fall back on being a defensive bully wondering where his influence is going, well, then, America is toast. Obama isn't perfect, but he represents the best chance we have at the moment.

Do you really think that all those people in the audience showed up with those Michelle signs? The convention is nothing but a sham. The magicians are distracting you with all this so you dont see what they ae really doing.

WOW! Holding up signs for a democrat at the Democratic Convention? Man, who have heard of such a thing! What would be next, holding up signs with McCain's name at the Republican Convention. We better check with the organizers to make sure it soes not happen.

There were also signs for Kennedy, they were either sold or passed out of course, I do not understand your issue with this.

        • Posted By: PaTriotDE @ 08/26/2008 12:43:22 PM

Whether you are a Democrat, or Republican or for the cows-in-the-sky Party it makes no difference that your comment was a bit...well...dumb. Maybe they are better organized this time around, maybe they just wanted to do something different, maybe...here it comes...wanted to send a clear message that the party is united behind the candidate and his wife, because after all, the convention is a week long infomercial to sell the candidate to the American people. simple concept really, it is called advertisement by visual stimulation, which is how humans engage their brain into the suggestion of buying anything. Just look at every commercial. Because aside from the concept that you can sell a product for its merits, everyone knows that people tend to buy a lot more of a product if it is packaged with an appealing label and not a product with a boring one. Just go to grocery store and see if the "white-label" brand X sells as much as the flashy ones.

          • Posted By: urbanad @ 08/26/2008 12:52:15 PM

Thank you for explaining this for DUMB LITTLE ME. It certainly makes sense. Lets see what they are selling tonight on their informercial.

            • Posted By: PaTriotDE @ 08/26/2008 1:11:38 PM

Of course is an infomercial. It is simply this is us, please buy us. And the problem is that this is the way that you have to present it to the American people. If the populous as a whole were more interested in their future and the future of the country and the world, parties maybe would not have to put-out an "infomercial", but sadly, the populous is not engaged enough in caring. There are millions of people that are not even registered to vote and only a portion of the the ones that are registered actually vote. Many only vote in the presidential election and never or rarely vote in local elections. The people seem to not care unless it comes packaged in a pretty wrapping. Ask yourself: how many people you know vote? How many people you know vote in local elections? Have you?
People are visually stimulated. Plain and simple. Example: one of the reasons that JFK won the election was that he looked better in television than Nixon. Mind you, this was one of the reasons, not all of it, but it was a reason without doubt.

              • Posted By: urbanad @ 08/26/2008 1:25:56 PM

I understand. What would you say to one of those voters that is looking at a nicely wrapped package of John and Cindy? You would probably tell them to take the blinders off. My dad registered me as a democrat when I was 18 and the only time I did not vote was when I was deployed to Iraq. Since my return I have volunteered locally with my democratic party. What have you done? Other than insult people on bloggs.

                • Posted By: PaTriotDE @ 08/26/2008 1:52:09 PM

Well. lets see I'm a disable combat vet of Desert Storm, I volunteer for local non-profit organizations, work two jobs, not because I have to, but because I love to work, just finish my third degree with honors, Summa *** Laude. I vote every time that I'm able and educate myself about the issues at hand. I'm not doubting that you volunteer in your local politics, but don't you think that it is important to attract the less well informed by all means? again, how many people you know are really take the time to educate themselves in the issues and vote more than than every four years or ever? I'm not insulting you, I'm declaring the fact that it was a dumb comment not to recognized that the mere reason for a convention is to sell the candidate to the American people. Otherwise it would just be easier to compile all of the results and announce who the candidate is. Let's put it to you this way, there are many people that maybe could run this country better, that are smarter that anyone running, whether it is republican or democrat, but do you think that by putting their plan for everyone to see without campaigning could get elected? Or if this super-qualified person would show up in jeans and T-shirt, without shaving or a haircut would have a chance in getting elected to any office, local or national, even though he may be THE MOST qualified candidate and a genius? I doubt it, and that is why you also need the "packaging" to appeal to people to "buy" your message. It has been a good discussion and you can have the last word, but it is all that I'm going to comment on this issue, have a good day.

Uh it was the DEMOCRATIC National Convention. So yeah, they were holding Michelle signs that were probably handed out there. What did you expect--McCain 08 signs?

      • Posted By: urbanad @ 08/26/2008 12:22:57 PM

My point is the whole thing is one big staged Obama play for the cameras. I read that they also handed out talking points for the delegates to read when they are interviewed.

  • Posted By: midnight05 @ 08/26/2008 2:49:02 PM

I thought Michelle Obama got the job done. She is so much more real than Cindy McCain's presentation of herself and we see in Michellea woman who is a powerhouse in her own right sharing her husband's ideals and not just writing checks. One can see the difference between a husband who values her skills and a hothead who cals his wife a vile name.

Sorry Michelle missed the mark by a landslide. If you listened to her speech you knew it wasn't from her heart, they were just prepared words. As she spoke she used small sentences in a tone that was suggested that we did not understand her and she needed to speak down to her audience. All her thoughts where just snipets from other speeches woven into a magic carpet. One problem I wasn't going for a ride. The only honest thing was the little girls luckly one of them asked their Daddy where he was because when he originally addressed the audiance he mentioned the wrong place.

    • Posted By: tpain2000 @ 08/26/2008 2:12:32 PM

Yes, in deed you 'are' sorry. your spite is is showing as is your ignorance. The purpose of most speeches is to convey information; a good speaker endeavors to ensure that her audience both hears and understands the message. One way to achieve this is by using short sentences; your comments reveal that she spoke above your comprehension level and that you are 'tone' deaf. Of course her 'words' were similar to other speeches given by people that also overcame adversity and through hard work, dedication and native intelligence persevered and achieved success; unfortunately something that you missed. Your churlishness and untruthfulness mark you as a paid GOP Troll.

      • Posted By: jpatelis @ 08/26/2008 2:33:15 PM

Why the personal attach? Obviously you were moved by her speech, I was not. Where am I untruthful? Personal opinions are just that not a measurement of truthfulness. GOP I think not, Independent. Happy I am not blinded by devotion.

    • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 08/26/2008 12:48:56 PM

Actually, I thought her speech was very much from the heart, and I didn't find her tone or her sentence structure to be condescending at all. Her acknowledgement of Hilary's hard work at breaking the glass ceiling for women was gracious and appropriate.

I thought her self-identification as a mother, wife and daughter was real and sincere, and I'm mystified that people think she made it up. Ben Stein reportedly griped about her and said - "lots of people are mothers, daughters and wives..." essentially, what's the big deal?

Yes, lots of people are - and we vote.

Clearly, her daughters are genuine in their emotions - children learn that from their parents. You may not like her politics or her husband, but her parenting and her love for her daughters is very much from the heart.

      • Posted By: jpatelis @ 08/26/2008 1:21:04 PM

You made my point the one line about Hillary was taken from one of Hillary's speeches, not appropriate she couldn't find one thing to say about her that was not said before. Her opening remark about her girls being the first thing she thinks of in the mornning and the last thing at night, go look at her speeches when she stumps same words.

Most women identify themselves with many different titles, not denying her that, as a women I am passionate about all my titles, some of my personal titles also inlude mother, wife, daughter, and sister She needed to reach into her sole and tell us why and I think she fell short on that. When the audiance was asked about her speech they could not garner a moment that made it stand out, why because it lacked the substance that made her identify to each of the roles she professed.

The girls were a wonderful addition, and I stated that, they do love there Mom and Dad. But the presentation was all gloss, no substance.
