Michelle should have not have spoken at the convention. It just makes gaffes of the past all the more obvious and painfully, not going to go away. It is defensive and staged. She should stay out of the political stage as she is becoming more a liability to the party. I'm sorry but she doesn't have the sweetness and charm of Mrs. Bush nor the class of HIllary. Comparing her to Jackie O is also way over the top disrespectful. Please stop the superficial makeover....people are not stupid.

How hard was it for you to resist typing "uppity?"

    • Posted By: josemarti @ 08/26/2008 11:42:26 AM

Exactly. Democratic strategists must think we are fools and knaves that can be easily manipulated.

      • Posted By: raddave @ 08/26/2008 1:00:29 PM

You are a fool and a kanve to believe John McCain will be good president.

    • Posted By: PaTriotDE @ 08/26/2008 11:52:46 AM

Sounds like you Repubs are really worry that this time around a woman with a real brain is going to be the first lady, and an African-American to top it off. LOL. Can't wait to see your butts getting kicked, figuratively and literally.

Even the critiques were scammed, now that is really something- Unbelievable they do not see through the facade- she may have spoken well- but she did not say anything- she may have looked good in a dress- but that does not make her credible. Cindy McCain has class and intelligence and is actually doing something that matters in the world far more than raising children- that feed on the economy that is sinking. Yes, harsh, indeed, but true.

    • Posted By: deeppeace @ 08/26/2008 1:32:54 PM

What IS Cindy doing, other than raising children? Oh, yes--that 'humanitarian' trip to Georgia. The campaign decided it needed to make her look a bit less Stepford-like to collect some video clips for the convention. Do the McCains have a house in Georgia?

    • Posted By: CoffeeeCandy @ 08/26/2008 11:43:01 AM

Where have you been in a cave !! Cindy steals and is a addict Did you actually read what you posted ??? Cindy is doing more then raising children ?? You Chloe have DEEP ISSUES

you people make me sick!!!! michelle is a sweet loving woman mother and wife, who has devoted her life to community service and all you see is the fear on your parts is she and her husband will be in the white house with her loving little girls. mr oboma is the best thing that has happened in this country for a very long time. mc cain is for the draft big oil and war war war. or bomb bomb bomb you take the choice. after all i am just a 62 year old white woman, what do i know????

    • Posted By: judithod @ 08/26/2008 12:13:36 PM

What you don't know is that Michelle has NOT devoted her life to community service. Right now, she's on leave from her $300,000 plus marketing job at U of Chicago Medical Center. And she used her position at the hospital to award a contract to Blackwell, one of her husband's clients and political donors. Michelle is a political insider with aspirations first, a wife and mother second.

      • Posted By: deeppeace @ 08/26/2008 1:30:22 PM

It will be really interesting to see if the GOP puts Cindy McCain on display at their convention. I'm guessing she doesn't have anywhere near the cred Michelle Obama has. Except in the political favors department.

  • Posted By: StLouisMan @ 08/26/2008 11:43:23 AM

"When she declaimed emphatically, "That is why I love this country," on TV you could see she had tears in her eyes. I believed her utterly. "

Actresses have to cry on cue--it all seemed phony to me.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 08/26/2008 1:28:33 PM

She is a lawyer, not an actress.

I loved Michelle speech and thought i would vote for Michelle, her speech told me about her. the type of person she is, it did not reassure me about Obama. Bad man usuuslly have exceptionally good wives, they knbw how to pick thier wives. Case in point the Governor of LA. bill and Hillary, to name a few. The fact that the democrats needed to put Michelle on show I found disturbing, What are they hiding about Obama, what is the game play, because u see everything I heard last night was related to other people, still nothing substantive about Obama . I still dont know who Obama really is and what He stands for. No one can stand for everything. That means you will fall for everything also. I love michelle , I will vote for her but not Obama, Obama needed the next five years making his name before i can vote Him into the most important job in the land.. Last night confirmed something for me, Obama is the Kennedys, way of getting back into the White House. The Catholic Church way of getting America.. Protestants beware, prophecy could be fullfilled by stealth,
Daniel the power given to the wounded beast, Rome, by the Lamblike beast America, Watch the cange will be greater than we believe, Remember Hitlers Germany.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 08/26/2008 1:28:01 PM

Yeah, Obama's candidacy is a great plot by the Catholic Church to take over America. As a Catholic I see your post as insulting to say the least.

  • Posted By: Davy2008 @ 08/26/2008 1:19:13 PM

The bottom line is, after all is said and done and the balloons and fanfair are gone, you're left with a guy with an empty CV. All the speeches in the world won't make up for that. He might very well make an excellent used car saleman, but certainly not the leader of the free world and commander-in-chief.

  • Posted By: repub4obama @ 08/26/2008 12:24:08 PM

What a great speech. She is going to make a great first lady and they are the all american family. It's hilarious reading all of you right wing conservative typical slander and completely stupid comments on this board. Your lives are so full of hate and animosity to those who live their lives in happiness or even content. You can see it in your hateful words. Quite sad

    • Posted By: oneamerican @ 08/26/2008 1:05:24 PM

repub4obama -- your words seem quite hateful to me, so put your money where your mouth is and grow up

      • Posted By: repub4obama @ 08/26/2008 1:09:27 PM

What in the hell are you talking about you right wing conservative whack job. You are a complete idiot.

  • Posted By: KareninCville @ 08/26/2008 12:58:39 PM

Hasn't anyone put this together yet? McCain will talk about his torturous years as a POW yet follows Bush's lead....it's ok to torture.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 08/26/2008 1:05:33 PM

McCain has some terrible policy postions, but he has advocated for not using torture.

Obama w/o question is a closet racist, muslim, and hater of American values. Notwithstanding, these factors he remains dramatically inexperienced to lead the United States of America in todays dangerous world. He is weak and utterly lost w/o his telaprompter.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 08/26/2008 1:02:07 PM

Name one racist remark Obama has made. I would also question he is a Muslim or a hater of American values. He is better than McCain who is utterly lost even with a teleprompter.

    Two words - bra straps...

  • Posted By: chinarger @ 08/26/2008 11:42:42 AM

chibarger. you people make me sick!!! michelle is a caring mother and wife that has devoted her live to commuinty service can you say the same. As Jeasus said ''let you with out sin through the frist stone'' how many of you can through that stone? wont be me, i cant . let move on i am a white 62 year old woman and i am voting for Mr Oboma he dosent hate his rivals, i am sick of the mud!!!!

    • Posted By: oneamerican @ 08/26/2008 12:52:17 PM

I consider someone involved in community service that doesn't pay a 6 or 7 figure salary to be commendable. Someone who donates blood, who is a big brother or sister, helps his neighbor that can't get to the store, all without anyobe else knowing. I had a saying long ago, that seems more true now " Anyone smart enough to be President is wise enough to not want to"

  • Posted By: judithod @ 08/26/2008 12:07:56 PM

Michelle gave a "designer speech." It was designed to eradicate the angry image that she's portrayed while campaigning for her husband. I don't buy her new warm wife and mother act. I will give her credit for having more executive experience than her husband. But she also has some explaining to do about how she misused that executive power in awarding the hospital contract to Blackwell, a client of her husband and one of his big donors. Michelle and Barack are not your average American couple; they're Chicago political insiders.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 08/26/2008 12:44:04 PM

And John and Cindy McCain are an average American couple? "flying is the only way to get around Arizona." "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c*nt."

  • Posted By: josemarti @ 08/26/2008 9:26:44 AM

Mrs. Obama's speech was outstanding. I particularly enjoyed hearing her talk about how Barack took her to meet his pastor for the first time: " Barack said: Michelle this is my pastor Reverend Wright. He has become like a father to me....... I immediately felt comfortable in the presence of Reverend Wright and my respect for him grew in the next few months as I attended Trinity Church. Little did I know then that it was to become our spiritual home for the next twenty years."

    • Posted By: StLouisMan @ 08/26/2008 12:43:01 PM

Same Rev. Wright wko spoke some much hate and so many unAmerican comments? OBAMA: 'BECOME LIKE A FATHER TO ME... MRS. OBAMA MY RESPECT GREW IN THE NEXT FEW MONTH Is that why they stayed for 20 years without objecting to what was sad until the media got wind of it?

  • Posted By: bravo01 @ 08/26/2008 12:41:09 PM

Wow, there are quite a few crazy critters out there. Frightening. The hate, derisivenes and divisiveness brought on by the upcoming election is crazy. But here's what I see; McCain supporters spewing the same baseless attack rhetoric as McCain himself. If some of you only took the time to look into the factual realities instead of playing to perfection the mindless role of GOP sheep (or lemmings? you decide), you may find that there is a great deal of substance that is being overlooked and underplayed as we are ALL being misdirected by the media "EXCLUSIVE BREAKING NEWS!" fluff of some gaffe-du-jour. Wake up people. Look for a real reason to cast your vote this year, not based on negative attack ads or the "I was a POW" excuse for every single error, misjudgement, mistake and misstep by the McCain camp. If you are honest with yourself, that is all they have.

After 8 of the most disastrous years in American history - last night I felt proud to be an American. Michele worked her way to the top from the bottom -- and went back to the community to help build the lives of others. The McCains only want the one thing the don't have....a crown. And why on earth is Cindy McCain going to Georgia -- hello why do you think we're there...the oil pipeline that bypasses Russia!!!! I am soooo sick of the Republican greed - they care NOTHING about us average Americans.

  • Posted By: mj it @ 08/26/2008 12:37:34 PM

After 8 of the most disastrous years in the history of America - I felt so proud to be an American last night. Michele is the antithesis of Cindy McCain. Michele worked her way to the top and went back to the community to build the lives of others. Cindy wants a crown. And why the hell is she in Georgia? Hello - oil pipeline.

I thought the entire evening was over the top. I have worked on the Obama campaign since March of 2007 and been with the Obama family on many occassions. I wonder where these people get their ugly opinions. To know them is to love them - this Country should be so lucky.......and the Biden family too!

  • Posted By: Kippling @ 08/26/2008 11:08:39 AM

I think she would make a poor representative of a first lady. She is arrogant. I do not think she is a lady that remembers her roots. I cannot visualize her as a first lady. She coach through this speech and this is not the real her. The real Michelle was when we first saw. People do not change that fast and the ones who does are the ones I distrust most. I think Obama is not right for America. I think he is a hype. His backgground is very disturbing and people seem to ignore that.??

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 08/26/2008 12:22:57 PM

What, exactly, are her roots? Should she remain in a blue-collar household and not be deserving of her hard work and intelligence? She's an extremely sharp, intelligent woman that can have a real, positive impact on this country. The alternative is Cindy McCain, who brings nothing to the table.

  • Posted By: Slownomad @ 08/26/2008 12:03:49 PM

Hey, Mr. Gerson. Why is John McCain afraid to compare and contrast his own personal story of his infedility during his first marriage with the Obama's beautiful marriage? Why doesn't he want to talk about the fact that he was having an affair with his beer heiress wife well before he even sought a divorce from his disabled wife who waited for him while he was a POW? What's Cindy going to talk about if she goes into the story of their courtship? How they had to sneak around for illicit sex so John's wife wouldn't find out. That ought to play well in the heartland!

  • Posted By: tiredoflies @ 08/26/2008 11:57:49 AM

Experience be damned. It can help but it can also hurt by locking you into the past. That is exactly where John McCain is.

JUDGEMENT AND A VISION FOR THE FUTURE ARE WHAT IS IMPORTANT AND OBAMA HAS THAT HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE MCCAIN.
