Obama's speech will be historic regardly of what people say. He is the first black Democratic Presidential nominee which will be recorded in history along with his speech. Just like Obama said in his speech. This election is not about him it is about the people. If you want change Obama is the one to vote for and who I am voting for in November. I believe we have a Democratic Party that is totally united and will give McCain a run for his money.

Get real Gerson. What kind of leap in logic do you need to make to even get past this guy's accreditation at the top of the page of helping to "craft some of President George W. Bush's most memorable speeches" Huh? Which ones were those again? I suppose if you take Gerson's resume into consideration his little "In a better, nobler speech, similar points might have been made with humor and a lighter touch" would make a bit of sense.

Why do we even read the dribble that comes from pundits? Sorry to be so negative - but this is a sorry story with poor critique. Starting to realize that maybe it's not so much the politicians that turn Americans away, but the supposed experts who pretend to know the real truth behind the politicians. Inane.

With Medicare FRAUD eating up BILLIONS and estimated at 15 to 30% of the entire pie

WHY DO YOU DEMOCRATS thing Government can RUN Health Care?

You are COMPLETE morons! The Government would TOTALLY mess it up, it will cost MORE and service would be HORRIBLE!

Many countries in Europe have had some sort of universal health care and as a result the life expectancy has extended by a couple of years over there. I'm not saying it's perfect, but it is possible.

Pardon me for saying this, but you're awfully self-centered. I have grave doubts about the ability of our government to pull off a feasible universal health care plan too. That being said, I've also paid $600 a month for medication I needed at a time when I made $18,000 a year. I have a preexisting chronic medical condition, and in our country that makes me uninsurable. Without help from my family I'd have been out on the streets. Things are a bit better now - I don't take the certain medication that was $400 per month anymore as it wasn't working well anyway - but maybe you can understand why I'd be willing to give universal health care a try?

Don't forget the waiting lines to see a doctor. Don't forget the people who fly to the US for healthcare who otherwise would more than likely die if they had to wait. Don't forget the lack of incentive doctors over there have to be at their best. Don't forget how extremely high they are taxed.... The list goes on and on.

        • Posted By: ex_republican @ 08/29/2008 12:39:49 PM

What do you possibly know about healthcare in Europe? I have spent six of the last twelve years living in 3 different European countries and got better healthcare in all of them. Waiting to see doctor is a myth. BTW, when my son needed to see an ENT here in Wisconsin, the first appointment was six months out. Yes, England has some capacity issues with some surgeries, but urgent and emergency care is at least as good as ours. France has the finest medical care in the world by any measure you want to use, both in research and in delivery of healthcare to individuals. Western Europe has lower infant mortality, lower incidence of diabetes and many other diseases and longer life expectancy. Yes my social security deduction in France was 22%. But that covers complete medical care and a retirement pension that one can actually live on. Switzerland has a system that is the model I would advocate here in the US. The government does not run the healthcare system. Everyone is required to have coverage. And all insurance companies are required to insure anyone with basic coverage at predetermined price (which btw is much less than mine costs here). The insurance companies cannot deny coverage or limit coverage. They make their profit by selling policies that provide additional coverage for things like private rooms, etc. We are one of the richest countries in the world. There is absolutely no reason why every american should not have good complete healthcare.

        • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 08/28/2008 5:49:33 PM

RetiredMarine: Also the list goes on and on that our healthcare costs could be reduced. Right now we are providing excessive profits to the drug companies just because the Bush admin guaranteed it for them by not allowing caps and competitive bargaining. There is much that could be done that isn't because lobbyists have had their way with politicians. Now will Democrats do a better job? It is time to give them a chance even if just to keep them all on their toes.

          • Posted By: RetiredMarine @ 08/29/2008 9:24:21 AM

Dick, are you for real? Much of the cost has been because of democrats and their special interest groups and mismanagement of things they shouldn't have been involved with. This is the problem with you blind followers. You blame the "Bush adm, inistration" for problems that have been going on for decades. You want the democrats to "fix" the problem. Hasn't this been the same rhetoric for decades by the democratic party? They repeat the same crap and fail to mention that they are behind the problem to begin with... Now just to be fair, the republicans haven't done much better and are also to blame. In fact it is both sides who continually cancel each other out. (Yes I am independent and have no loyalty to ANY party - it is much easier to see through the BS that way). At any rate - look at the big picture and how the problem came about to bigin with. Government involvement made it bad, continual interference made it worse and is continuing to do so.

public healtcare wouldn't mean the end of private healtcare so if you can afford it then go crazy. for most of us the cost of medical care is enough to push past the point of bankruptcy. If you get sick though watch out your doctor will only care as much as you pay them to

Was Gerson listening to the same speech? It was not the usual rhetoric, it was speaking to individuals in this country about unity, personal responsibility and goals for our future. The most brilliant speech I have ever heard in any of the political conventions, Democrat or Republican. Obama will lead the way. And now McCain's VP pick. You can't give us just any woman to get women voters behind you. We want smart, astute, experienced women - not a former beauty queen with less than 2 years in state government.

    • Posted By: LaurieSue @ 08/29/2008 12:39:26 PM

Here here! McCains choice of VP is insulting to women. If he really wanted the women vote he should have picked a strong smart woman like Condi. That is a choice I could have voted for........... not Sarah whats her name?

Being on of those Hillary supporters that everybody keeps talkiing about I had not decided who I was going to vote for. McCain vs. Obama............. Last night Obama hit it out of the stadium and left me proud to be able to vote for him. the speech was amazing and I believed him which is what mattered the most to me. I really believe that he thinks he change things. And yet I still thought maybe if McCain pick a strong running mate I will change my mine that is finally comfortable voting for Obama. Today McCain made a huge blunder by picking Sarah, whats her name and where is she from? Oh yeah and she is under investigation as well???? Sorry McCain I am voting for Obama after last night and today.

REALITY CHECK: That is because Barack lacks character and judgement.

ARTICLE: Hillary did nothing to refute that Obama is inexperienced and untested in international affairs.

( CONTINUED FROM ANOTHER POST ABOVE - Obama sued in Philadelphia Federal Court on Grounds he is constitutionally Ineligible for the Presidency)

Even if Sen. Obama can prove his U.S. citizenship, Berg stated, citing the senators use of a birth certificate from the state of HAWAII verified as a forgery by three independent document forensic experts, the issue of MULTI-CITIZENSHIP WITH RESPONSIBILITIES OWED TO AND ALLEGIANCE TO OTHER COUNTRIES
                      remains on the table.

In the LAWSUIT, Berg states that Sen. Obama was BORN IN KENYA, and not in Hawaii as the senator maintains. Before giving birth, according to the lawsuit, Obamas mother traveled to Kenya with his father but was prevented from flying back to Hawaii because of the late stage of her pregnancy, apparently a normal restriction to avoid births during a flight. As Sen. Obamas own paternal grandmother, half-brother and half-sister have also claimed, Berg maintains that Stanley Ann Dunham, Obamas mother, GAVE BIRTH to little Barack in KENYA and subsequently flew to Hawaii to register the birth.

Berg cites INCONSISTENT ACCOUNTS of Sen. Obamas birth, including reports that he was born at two separate hospitals: 1. Kapiolani Hospital and 2. Queens Hospital. . . in Honolulu, as well a profound LACK OF BIRTHING RECORDS for Stanley Ann Dunham, though simple registry of birth records for Barack Obama are available in a Hawaiian public records office.

Should Sen. Obama truly have been born in Kenya, Berg writes, the LAWS ON THE BOOKS AT THE TIME OF HIS BIRTH hold that U.S. CITIZENSHIP MAY ONLY PASS TO A CHILD BORN OVERSEAS TO A U.S. CITIZEN PARENT AND NON-CITIZEN PARENT IF THE FORMER WAS AT LEAST 19 YEARS OF AGE. Sen. Obamas mother was ONLY 18 at the time. Therefore, because U.S. citizenship could not legally be passed on to him, Obama COULD NOT BE registered as a NATURAL BORN citizen and would therefore be ineligible to seek the presidency pursuant to Article II, Section 1 of the United States Constitution.

obamabots would interpret the statement - "Berg cites INCONSISTENT ACCOUNTS of Sen. Obamas birth, including reports that he was born at two separate hospitals: 1. Kapiolani Hospital and 2. Queens Hospital. . . in Honolulu" - to verify that he is in fact their messiah.

No mortal man could ever be born in 2 different hospitals.
This fulfills the hope part of their mantra.

And as for the change part of their mantra, well, that spin will change tomorrow.

I agree with Obama policies (not all- - some scare me) cuz he mimic'd Hillarys and tweeked them a bit to get in the race; but it is the long list of radical relationships as friends and peers (e.g. 2 felons, 3 terrorists, radical advisors, endorsements from Hamas, Farrakhan , even though he denounced those endorsements, I say What the . . .?). All THAT I feel really uncomfortable (there are even more that the MSM does not talk about and this is stuff that comes out of Chicago papers from back in his early years in South Side). Even moreso uncomfortable because he has only been in Washhington 4 yrs of which he has served maybe 2yrs as US Senator with little self led accomplishments; minimal experience compared to John McCain who has been in Washington for years with a wealth of experience and accomplishments. But I dont agree with quite a few of McCains policies either, but I do feel that he has a move in depth love and dedication to this country and would find Bin Laden and end the current war in the right manner. I am not comfortable at all with a presidential candidate going to Iraq this summer saying he would refine his plan for Iraq after talking to general Patraeus, finds out the gen. has concerns given he says the surge has worked but it still not completely stable and still stick to his 16 mo withdrawal day one (although I do think he is pandering that and on day one he will go talk to general again, he will say the same thing and THEN after being in the White House throw the 16 mo withdrawal under the bus with his many many controversial friends. So there you have it. McCain will be a default vote if I vote at all. I will check out your questions for the heck of it (I wasnt able to get into the site articles for a hr or so tonite as i kept getting error. Maybe they were updating the articles).

So there ya go. . . Thats my delima as to why I am back and forth and it has nothing to do with Hillary losing at this point but everything to do with the two candidates left to pick from.

It looks like there is new life going into OBAMAs BIRTH ISSUE. A prominent attorney and Hillary supporter (also Former Chair of the Democratic Party in Montgomery (PA) County, former member of the Dem. State Committee and former Deputy Attorney General of PA) has FILED A LAWSUIT AGAINST BARACK OBAMA, the DNC and the FEC. Looks like this story may in fact have legs. Guess we will see after the DNC:

Obama Sued in Philadelphia Federal Court on Grounds he is Constitutionally Ineligible for the Presidency
                      by Jeff Schreiber

A PROMINENT PHILADELPHIA ATTORNEY and Hillary Clinton supporter FILED SUIT this afternoon in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania AGAINST Illinois SEN. BARACK OBAMA, the DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE and the FEDERAL ELECTION COMMISSION. The action seeks an injunction preventing the senator from continuing his candidacy and a court order enjoining the DNC from nominating him next week, all on grounds that Sen. Obama is constitutionally ineligible to run for and hold the office of President of the United States.

PHILIP BERG, the filing attorney, is a former gubernatorial and senatorial candidate, FORMER CHAIR OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY in Montgomery (PA) County, former member of the Democratic State Committee, and former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania. According to Berg, he filed the suit--just days before the DNC is to hold its nominating convention in Denver . . . for the health of the Democratic Party.

I filed this action at this time, Berg stated, to avoid the obvious problems that will occur WHEN the REPUBLICAN PARTY RAISES THESE ISSUES AFTER OBAMA IS NOMINATED.

Berg cited a number of UNANSWERED QUESTIONS regarding the Illinois senators background, and in todays lawsuit maintained that Sen. Obama is not a natural born U.S. citizen or that, if he ever was, he LOST HIS CITIZENSHIP WHEN HE WAS ADOPTED IN INDONESIA. Berg also cites what he calls dual loyalties due to his citizenship and ties with Kenya and Indonesia.

loriw, did you read about the whole issue about where Obama was born is coming back and it is looking like it has legs. A prominent Atty. has officially established a lawsuit about fraud with his birth certificate, not just where he was born, but the fact that when he lived in Indonesia and his step father adopted him in that country that made all bets off for qualification as POTUS due to conflict in interests . . . I posted it for Elizabeth below. . .

I'm not asking about Sen. Obama's birthplace of Hawaii. Any evidence to support Sen. McCain's assertion that he 'knows how to win wars'? Can anyone think of a war that Sen. McCain has won?

McCain said that the USA can stay in Iraq for 100 years. At $10 billion a month in today's dollars, how much will it cost to stay in Iraq for 100 years? Would you call it a 'win'? The man is ridiculous.

Again, what war has Obama won - or even served? The 100 yrs comment has been taken so far out of context that brainwashed Obama heads believe it as fact now. Did you ever use reason to understand the meaning of the words? Lets break it down kindergarten style so some of you brainwashed types can understand.... His meanings is that we will stay as long as it takes. We are still in Germany for crying out loud - and they are supposed to be our friends now..... We are also still in Japan - same thing..... Now, use some reasoning, how long has that war been over?

                        • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 08/28/2008 6:39:35 PM

The USA is not at war in Germany and Japan. They were defeated in 1945 by the USA and many other allied nations. The USA presence in Germany and Japan is not comparable to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The USA cannot 'win' in the Arab world.

At this important point in history the USA needs an intelligent leader, a man smart enough to use diplomacy instead of sending decent young Americans to die in that hellhole Iraq.

Have you heard the principle: "'Don't throw good money after bad"?

Sen. Obama will lead the USA to a better place than its been for the past eight years.

And perhaps you can refrain from 'talking down' to people who you disagree with. Being a 'Retired Marine' does not entitle you to be obnoxious.

Sen. McCain says that he 'knows how to win wars' and that he'll 'win' in Iraq.

Please direct us to links that tell us:

                  (a) What, if any, war Sen. McCain has ever won;

                  (b) How Sen. McCain proposes to 'win' in Iraq.

Sen. Obama owes no apologies to anyone for his service to his country. He has the intellect and character to be an outstanding president. If you like American servicemen dying in that hellhole Iraq, you'll support Sen. McCain because he intends to stay there for 'as long as necessary to 'win' - even 100 years. Discounting of course the impossibility that the USA can not 'win' in any Arab nation.
                      '
Who will foot the bill for the old guy's twisted ego, the guy who bragged, "I know how to win wars."
Can you name even one war that Sen. McCain has won?

Add up the cost of Sen. McCain's Iraq 'win' - $10 billion a month = $12 billion a year in today's dollars., Multiply by 100 years and adjust for inflation. Can your ;calculator go that high?

Former President George H.W. Bush was asked how the Republicans feel about Sen. Obama and he eloquently replied: " We're jealous."

Quite so. America can work hard or it can work smart. Smart is better.

You are probably right. . . . but you know my story which I posted down below in one of your posts. But, sure, I will check it out to see what I find and post it here in a bit or tomorrow.

If you have the time, please investigate whether any past president has tossed as many (former?)supporters under the bus as Obama has demonstrated.

And he's still got more than 2 months to add to the body count!

No, that wasn't self-praise - it was just a fact.

Why is it that facts cause obamabots to implode?

Yeah because all the media is telling them how to vote!
Sharenews is more informed than all the article authors and all the editors of Newsweek COMBINED.

You mean sharenews, the cut and paste artist?

Someone has to Share the News. LOL. The MSM is not doing their job. BTW, I cannot believe the pompous stage setting your Messiah requested be built for him. Kind of reminds me of the setting for Zeus or something. Absolutely ridiculous and only reinforces the audacity of this man.

I suspect that George Soros (google his name) picked up the tab for that one - he is very adept at avoiding and evading scrutiny.

If Obama would ever manage to steal the election, then his outrageous proposals would have to be funded by the already over-taxed taxpayers.

And the obamabots who expect to live on perpetual government subsidies would describe that as deserved income transfer, otherwise known as theft from the despised successful entrepreneurs.

Share - I'm sure that George Soros would provide a lot of fodder for your excellent and well-informed factual cut and paste revelations.

Keep up the good work - blog on!

Yes, voters can make up their minds about the junior Sen. Obama, but Share enables them to actually develop and retain an informed factual opinion!

SHARE, you forgot to mention that Hillary DID have some kind and uplifting words about McCain...GUESS she's got to hand on to some integrity and truth for the next DNC run....she didn't say Obama is committed, worthy, or capable....You have to hand it to her for telling the truth...Just say NO TO O

      OH ! MY GOODNESS,

      HILLARY DOES KNOW THE TRUTH.

Maybe yes, maybe no... but you Obamaheads are reading a whole lot more and giving way too much credence to his lack of substance speaches. I still don't see what people see in him other than "He makes them feel good".... There is nothing in his policies that should instill those types of feelings. You are beeing fooled into "feeling good" about moving into socialism.... That is being brainwashed...

And what type of critique would you expect from W's speechwriter ? Gerson asserts that O'Bama's speech was all about division? I watched it 3 times. It was all about UNITY, getting past the red and blue mentality to create a more productive Washington. Yes, he did point out the differences in platforms and philosophies but, DUH, that's essential in a campaign. Gerson and company can only win if they maintain the division in America. Hence the attempt to DIVIDE the Hillary dem's by picking a female running mate. So transparent. Look at McCain's record of public slurs on women.

Sarah Palin with less than 2 years of any significant legislative experience and that too in a state with less than 5 people is now on the line to be President of the United States. Good luck America. Where are the Republicans who were saying if only Barack Obama had more than his 11+ years experience they would vote for him? What excuse do you know have Republican bots?
People on the board - The Republicans have hired bots in India to post the same message under different ids. Just watch HolyRoller etc. Once you catch them they will change their ids but it is the same people with the same comments.

    Just remember one thing:

McCains team Rick Davis says, "It does not matter if it is true as long as it works."

Does that tell you anything about what they will say to get into the White House?

Like we are supposed to get un-biased reviews from a former Bush flunky and a former Clinton flunky. Let's be honest here..these two guys wouldn't a great speech if it fell on them. Obama and Biden just cemented history last night, and the McCain lovers at Newsweek and their GOP allies, are going to to have to watch as the Democrats take back the WH, and win massive majority's in both the Senate and House, great day for the country, bad day for anti-American Repug's and News media losers (yes that means Newsweek and MSNBC:)

whoa ...Everybody take it easy... these people are in politics. Everybody needs to go back and listen to the nomination speeches for the last 50 years. Last night was so Hollywood swinging.. and you have got to rent THE CANDIDATE with Robert Redford. It is a vision of where we are at now in the Political process. These delegates
on the floor are the people running the Public School system in American't . Democrat's are the trick or treater's.

NEWSWEEK contributor Michael Gerson helped craft some of President George W. Bush's most memorable speeches????? When did Bush ever give a memorable speech? The only memorable thing Bush has done is tear this country down!! No wonder Gerson didn't have anything good to say about Obama's speech. . Mr. Gerson is just envious that HE couldn't write one as memorable!! Get a new job Mr. Gerson since speech writing or critiquing is not your strong point!

As for McCain's choice??? Does he think women in general are stupid??? That they only voted for HRC because she was a woman??? Does he think he can just willy nilly put another "woman" in the pot and it will satisfy the "stupid women" he has to deal with??? I, we women are not stupid!!! I supported Hillary ALL THE WAY because of where she stood on the ISSUES. . . NOT because she was a woman. I was fully prepared to put my support behind Obama because of my strong support for Hillary and I have to say after hearing Obama's speech last night. . . I am totally and whole heartedly behind OBAMA because I now truly believe he is what American needs. I will never vote Republican!!! and even more so, I will NEVER vote for McCain no matter who he chooses as a running mate !! By choosing a woman. . and this is not a hit against Ms. Palin. . . does McCain think ANY WOMAN WILL DO?? Yes, I think the poor Repugs and poor McCain do think that way and it is an insult to Ms. Palin and to all women as Ms. Palin should have been chosen based on her credentials and not based soley because she is a WOMAN (with 5 kids) and I have NO DOUBT in this world that that IS THE ONLY REASON she was chosen as his running mate. WHAT A LOSER McCain is!! Well, let's see if this comment gets posted.

Get over it. It was a great speech. Dmn the man can't even get this to his credit. What does he have to do? Cut his wrists and bleed to prove to yoy people tht he is passionate about this country. Oh i forgot, he's black and there's no way ever, he was going to just get a well deserved good speech Obama recognition. They must crap on one of the most significant moments in recent history
