I am a democrat and I am amazed at the apparent anger of Obama supporters at democrats who have not embraced Obama. He is far to the left of me. I think we have a housing crises but it was caused by lenders and borrowers. We have an energy crises but it has been coming for years and largely ignored by everyone. Obama's energy policies may work (if I knew what they were) but they will be more expensive, not cheaper. I was against the war in Iraq but don't feel we can just walk away from the mess we created. I don't think he can make the sale with me if it angers every Obama supporter in the country.

Perception: Not all anger is rooted at the failure to embrace Obama per se. It's rooted in the reasons and rhethoric underlying and surrounding "why" people, particularly blue collar and working class voters on many of these blogs, are stating that they will not embrace our Democratic candidate. You, on the other hand speak a different tune, saying "sell me on these policies, make me a believer of what you can do" which is valid, and is something that Obama must do to deliver your vote. But most other commentary that has surfaced thusfar is less about deliverables and performance and more about personal attacks on him and his family's character, and their attempts to be viewed just like any normal working class family aspiring to embrace the American dream, despite being black in america.

The criticism of Obama should be less about him and more about showing us what he can do. And I'm sure that in the next few days and weeks, the team of OBAMA-BIDEN should solidify those answers for you.

"Race is an issue that I believe this nation cannot afford to ignore right now" -- Barack Obama

The so-called "blue-collar" or "middle-class" may have good instincts. With 50% of private sector jobs and 60 - 80% of new jobs in the last decade (according to SBA) coming from Small Businesses, you have to be concerned about Obama's stated tax plans on an already ailing economy.

Where does he think jobs come from anyway?

    • Posted By: ex_republican @ 08/26/2008 9:34:16 AM

Where do you think jobs come from? Jobs do NOT come from tax cuts for big business and the wealthy. Jobs come from lower income and middle income families with money to spend. As a business, tax cut or not, I am only going to be able to create jobs when I have demand for my product. The supply side view of economics is rubbish.

I was raised by a single mother on welfare. I now am in the top 3% of wage earners in this country. I earned it the same way the Obamas did. I don't need a tax cut. I need a healthy, secure economy. Tax cuts for the lower income and middle class will do much more to secure the economy and and my future than tax cuts for me or my employer.

My wife and I have income in the top 3% of the country. We earned our way there, we both come from lower income families. I am not wealthy, I have to get out of bed and go to work for my money. But I don't need a tax cut, I need a secure economy. A healthy middle class and opportunity for lower income families to get to the middle class secures our economy, not tax cuts for me and my employer.

"Pearsoncrz"--The McCain=Bush idea is not a strategy, it is an obvious truth. Do you really think McCain and his policies will be any different or better than those of the Bush administraion? If you do, maybe politics isn't your game. Furthermore, I watched and enjoyed the convention last night, and will continue to do so for the rest of the week. You might have found it boring, but then again, you are not an Obama supporter, so it wasn't intended for you anyway. Millions watched, thousands are swarming downtown Denver (I live one mile from the Convention, so I know firsthand). Your bitterness is way too transparent, and the most pathetic part is that you waste your time whining about something you clearly don't even know or care about. Go play on your swing set, leave the Presidential politics to the adults. McCain=Bush - nothing boring about that...just FRIGHTENING!!!

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 08/26/2008 9:29:03 AM

In case you hadn't figured it out, the convention is supposed to influence people who are not the candidate's supporters to support the candidate. You can't do that if you can't get them to watch.

People have heard McCain=Bush too many times already, and have clearly not bought the comparison, or the polls would be tracking in the opposite direction. But it is all the democrats are offering.

  • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 08/26/2008 9:02:15 AM

The "McCain equals Bush" strategy is obviously not working, no matter how many times Democratic spokespeople repeat the phrase. I've seen people's eyes glaze over when they start that mantra. In fact, I didn't watch the convention last night because it was so incredibly boring. I'd bet their share was pitiful! Even the Obama fans I know were complaining, so you can bet those who don't support him weren't watching.

To renew the technological base, you have to give industry incentives to retool and update the factories here. Raising taxes on corporate profits won't do that, but that is Obama's innovative economic plan.

No wonder the working stiffs are not falling into ranks behind the democratic candidate. They do not see his plans creating jobs for them, they see his plans creating desk jobs in the growing federal and state agencies that will be necessary to administer the new programs he is proposing. Those are not union jobs.

Did you actually bother to read the Leonhardt article? Cuz it doesn't say what you want it to.

  • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 08/26/2008 2:58:17 AM

Ted Kennedy, Howard dean, those are intelligent human beings. You go democrats and you better win this election... the whole world is watching!!

  • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 08/26/2008 2:55:57 AM

Just like bill Maher said... it is not the country that I hate, it is the people... well, of course, except for the intelligent ones.. which is about 35% of the population.

  • Posted By: newage_lightbulb @ 08/26/2008 2:29:07 AM

Lol, you mean FAKE change and progress, a guy who has no ideas, who will do exactly what McCain says he's going to do, but do it while telling you a comforting lie in a soothing voice. You need to research Obama's real stand on issues: he'll leave troops in Iraq (because they're needed); he won't do your little commie/socialist plan of giving money to the idiots who bought houses they couldn't afford; he's courting anti-abortion; he doesn't want to overhaul health care. He's a stuffed shirt, and people like you slavishly falling in line behind his media image crack me up. Do you read Oprah's books, too?

The Democrats this year are a freak show. I know I will not be voting Democratic for the first time since I voted at 18 for Jimmy Carter

In what way is the democratic party a big joke??? They want to do for the american people what the people want. HEALTH CARE FOR ALL, AFFORDABLE EDUCATION, USE CLEAN ENERGIES... In which way is this a joke?????? This is what the people need to have a good life, you idiot!

    • Posted By: loriw @ 08/26/2008 1:24:45 AM

The Democratic Party wants to pattern it's universal health care for all after Medicare but medicare is pervasive with fraud which is costing taxpayers millions and millions every year. I have seen the healthcare that the government gives to it's military personnel first hand and what I say is NO THANKS!

    • Posted By: valadezaj @ 08/25/2008 11:04:07 PM

Ok great! But you have to win an election to do anything. Fat chance that will ever happen.

  • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 08/26/2008 12:08:21 AM

oh! and lets not forget how handsome barrack is! As a very attactive, white woman, I would marry a man like Barrack over a white man, any day!! :)

    • Posted By: loriw @ 08/26/2008 1:10:37 AM

Oh yeah, being handsome qualifies one to be POTUS.

  • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 08/26/2008 1:06:10 AM

oh, he looks to black or he looks to white, Oh, i don't like his ears.. Oh, i don't like his shoes... oh, got to vote for the one with white hair and no brains.. so the country can go farther down..
Me?? I vote for a man or woman, no matter how short he or she is, attractive or not he or she is, a being who has the competences, intelligence, energy, enthusiasm, someone who is envrironmentaly and socialy aware. Some one who is not afraid of Change and
progress! Someone who will not bring us back into the dark ages. Obama/Biden 08

  • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 08/26/2008 12:59:27 AM

And some are ready to vote for a guy who even cannot recall how many houses he owns??? Well for 8 years we had a religious fanatic idiot in the house and now you want a senile one?? you people, must be out of your mind!!

Do you mean like when Bush looked into Putin's eyes and saw his soul.

  • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 08/25/2008 11:58:33 PM

Only the republicans have to be blamed for the mess they created! they have been in power for the past 8 years. Vote smart! Vote for the democrats!

  • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 08/25/2008 11:54:44 PM

rational Poster. I have a question for you... Who do you think is going to pay for Bushes wars?? Do you think you can just put the bill on a credit card and forget about it?? We owe the chinese billions of dollars.. Yes taxes will have to go up because the war has to be paid for.. Thanks to Bush! Next time you vote, think twice before voting for a war monger!!

  • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 08/25/2008 11:43:27 PM

I am low middle class and I will never ever identitified myself, with the republican party! I just do not understand how any blue collars can vote for the republican party when they work only for the rich and super rich. It baffles me!! I think a large majority of blue collars need to educate themselves. If you cannot afford school, thanks to the republicans, go on the internet and do some research. The democrats work for the middle class, the poor which we are the majority in this country. What will it take to deprogram you? Oh, I bet you vote republican so you make sure no one will take your guns away?? This is completely stupide. You guns do not define your lives, good politics do!!

  • Posted By: Rational Poster @ 08/25/2008 11:37:22 PM

An old political axiom says that "guys with guns and boats decide presidential elections." That could not be any truer with Ohio and PA being swing states. If Obama wins either or McCain wins both, the election is over. Lots of guys with "guns and boats" in Ohio/PA. I'll bet Obama would like that comment about "angry, poor rural folks that hang onto their guns and religion" back.

McCain may win Ohio, he won't win Penn.

  • Posted By: betsyera @ 08/25/2008 11:24:10 PM

I just don't understand what these people are thinking. They are getting completely conned by the republican spin machine. For God's sake, this man grew up with a single mom and his grandma. How much of a white collar background could that be???

    • Posted By: mrzoid @ 08/25/2008 11:39:07 PM

The Democrats have always been dominated by the Republican spinners. It's a handicap that they struggle to get over every election cycle.
