For anyone to suggest that Obama is a Muslim is very ignorant. And just so you know Muslim is a religion is just like Catholic, Methodist, evangelist....... There are people in all religion who commit crimes in its name to justify their action. If you have a little common sense you will be able to identify these culprits like those in the 9/11 event. I know muslims and they are fighting against terrorism just as the westerners are fighting against it. So roxybleu do some research, educate yourself a little more and stop making ignorant remarks. Remember you guys are getting your oil from Saudi Arabia a theocratic society that is governed by the Muslim religion, a nation that also joined forces with the US to fight terrorism. So what if Obama was Muslim? Remember Allah is translated in English to mean God.

If you have a Muslim friend then they are Sunni Muslims. The Shia don't believe they can pray with whites. That is why the nation got so pissed off at Malcolm X they had him murdered. But they all believe Muslims and Christians will unite to kill the Jews when Allah comes back. Afterwards, the Christians are to convert to Muslim or be killed also. I even asked my friend who is a Sunni Muslim if he would kill me if I didn't convert. His response to me was Do I love you more then my God?

I am African American and I am voting for Barack Obama because the Bush administration and the Republicans have made a mess of this country. I am excited that an African American is a presidential candidate but I am not voting for Obama just because he is African American - I would vote for Clinton, Biden, Richardson, etc - whoever is on the Democrat ticket. I am tired of people talking about blacks just voting for Obama because he's black. We vote like everyone else - we vote for the person we think will have our best interests at heart.

    • Posted By: Icare777 @ 08/28/2008 11:53:21 AM

eastcoastlady, We are enjoying your Clinton administration right now. Please do some homework on political science. That is why this country is so screwed up! No one out there has studied political science and votes without even knowing what they are voting for. Did you vote for the Clintons? You can thank them for the unemployment level in this country as well as the poverty. In politics you have to understand that when a president signs a bill it may take it 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32 years to come into effect, therefore, while the Clintons were in office and we were all enjoying the Regan administration you were all thinking it was the wonderful liberals in office at the time. IT JUST ISN'T THE WAY IT WORKS. Thats the way the liberals work, they take the credit for the REPUBLICAN economies. I have a degree in political science and one of the reasons we are so weak is that these liberals take advantage of the uneducated people in this country and promise the moon when they can't even deliver a glass of water correctly. Bill got elected the first time on Gays in the Military. Sad state that since it obviously didn't work.
Then we have to mention how easy the Clintons have made it for huge industries to up and leave this country to set up and employ people in other countries leaving factories and industry in a ghost town status and lots of people in poverty. I have a black friend who lives in NC who says people are so out of work back there that the streets are dangerous to even walk anymore because of the Clinton administration, as is Mi and many other states that had big industry and factories that have moved to other countries, so please before you make any decisions please please please do some research don't go by liberal television and radio, go by what is true. Read READ read and when you are tired of reading read some more. Learn what liberals stand for, find out what the Clintons actually did while in office and how they got away with it. Today we are enjoying the Clinton administration people, you can thank them for the loss of your jobs and your families jobs. India and other third world countries can thank them for more jobs and better economy.

      • Posted By: WesttoEastTransplant @ 08/28/2008 1:52:43 PM

        Icare777,
I have to commend you for one of the best responses on this board. It is very true that the problems of the economy are directly related to the passing of NAFTA and other policies allowing large corporations to move their manufacturing centers and even their headquarters overseas, thus abandoning the American factory worker. These policies were enacted during the Clinton administration and have been the single worst blow to the earning power of the middle class in this country.
That being said, there are also portions of your post that ring false and bear exposing. While indeed many policies may require several years to fully evaluate their effect, other changes can be seen more immediately. Reagan's build-up of the military-industrial complex, resulting in the eventual collapse of the Soviet Union due at least in part to being simply unable to keep up with US spending, was certainly not a carry-over from Ford or Carter's administrations. Likewise, the government budget surplus developed by the Clinton administration was not the result of Bush Sr.'s policies.
The fact of the matter is that as has been previously stated, the American citizens' buying habits have more effect on the economy than most congressional or presidential actions. The rush to buy cheaper goods imported from foreign manufacturing plants saves money in the short term, but in the long term it directly affects the earning ability of the American workforce. If the manufacturing jobs lost were being replaced by higher paying jobs requiring greater technical acumen, then the overall earning power would rise, however the unfortunate trend has been to replace well-paying manufacturing sector jobs with lower-paying service sector jobs selling the very products whoe manufacture has been out-sourced for cheaper labor. The product may be cheaper in flat dollar value, but when viewed against the loss of earning power the overall effect is a general wash, which is why when inflation is factored into the mix the standard of living for the American "middle class" is seen to be lowering.
There is far more to cover on this topic than useful space to discuss it here so I will end by clarifying that I intend to vote for Barack Obama because I believe that his views of the purpose of government hew more closely to my own than do those of John McCain. Perhaps the future will change my opinion, we will have to wait and see.

        • Posted By: Icare777 @ 08/28/2008 3:25:49 PM

westtoeasttransplant, Thank you for your compliment and I really enjoyed reading the words of an intellect on here. I value that above all and while I may not be on point with all of your views I actually admire your candor. I also agree that the spending of the private sector has a huge impact on the economy, however, it needs to feel secure in doing that spending. With the loss of jobs and industry in this country and the lack of trust in our government it has taken a toll that I no longer feel can be reversed by any ONE and absolutely not by a liberal leader who believes in more of the same and then some. It is a shame that any one would be able to gain the White House on a declaration of support for same sex marriages and pro abortion laws which only brings flash backs of the promises of gays in the military and socialized medicine. It infuriates me because more people are going to be hurt by false promises and anti moral laws which will not be embraced by the majority. It further inflames me that there is no education for the voters of America other than liberal television and that any person can make false promises even though they know that they will never come to fruition, that even if they do, Gays In the Military, a lot of innocent people get hurt. I realize that some of my opinions may come from emotion rather than logic and I thank you for pointing that out to me. I am not, however, trying to promote false information. I ABSOLUTELY loved reading your post and was actually falling in love with your brain until the final paragraph! Give me more.

Soccermon78....It's not you or your type that infuriates us whites. Yall "get it" and are doing well, nobody has any ill feelings toward you. It's the thug and ghetto attitudes that get us aggrivated. You know the type, you see them on the news every day. No respect for anyone but demanding respect, violent, etc, etc,etc..... When black people stop being apologetic and ignoring/making excuses for them and make them step up to the plate and be decent citizens then things will change. Till then its gonna be a backlash, whites cant make them straighten up, wish we could but it ain't gonna happen that way so the black population that gets it have to. Oh yea... whites do make up the largest population of welfare recipients BUT, blacks are very close behind with a vastly smaller population. Do the math and see. (thats being more apologetic again and ignoring and excusing it and it doesn't work with me)

    • Posted By: Sephy479 @ 08/28/2008 1:52:44 PM

Just my opinion???. But no matter what race you look at, every race has its losers.

Heck, I have them in my own family, my dads two younger brothers are living off our tax dollars- and we are white.

      • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 08/28/2008 3:19:31 PM

Every family has members that when we look at them we think "Where the hell did you come from" I have a very close family member who is receiving assistance for the simple fact that she feels that she should not have to work because her parents are wealthy. After years of supporting her and any piece of trash that she is living with, they cut her off. I will say it we are ashamed of her as there is absolutely no reason for her to live this way.

She is the only person in my family who has ever received government assistance. If you need help getting on your feet then take full advantage of what they are offering, but use it to get on your feet not as a way of life.

Let me also remind you that Affermitive Action first assited generations of white, Irish Americans in obtaining government employment.

White Scapegoat, I sympathize with you a little because I too used to have those views, until I began to educate myself. Now I realize how deafening my ignorance was. AIDS was created. Scientists have created race targeting bio-weapons. And as far as abortion, from other posters, the whole argument of whether it is a right or not is ....again.... foolish fodder to keep us ignorantly entertaining ourselves arguing over "right" and "wrong". I believe right and wrong exists, but the reason abortion is even legal at all has nothing to do with rights, or the fact that it is controversial is not a religous debate. I personally believe it is wrong morally. But the reason it is even an option is to decrease the world population. FACT: 85% of abortions carried out worldwide are conducted on female fetuses. Listen to Alan Watt and learn why so many questions loom unanswered. Lets educate ourselves. Please!

    • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 08/28/2008 2:43:08 PM

Man I would love to see some proof that AIDS was created by the government to wipe out races they don't like. Could you please provide some? Also, what race could possibly be stupid enough to have information on a plot to kill off their entire race and the virus is actually effective?

I do not believe that you people are still dragging that same bs around about Obama NOT being a US Citizen.

    Barack Obama
    U.S. Senator

    Born: 4 August 1961
    Birthplace: Honolulu, Hawaii
Best known as: The 2008 Democratic candidate for president
Barack Obama is a U.S. senator from Illinois and the Democratic nominee for president in 2008. Obama has spoken often of his multicultural background: his father was from Kenya, his mother from Kansas, and they met at the University of Hawaii. After his parents divorced and his father returned to Africa, Obama stayed with his mother and was raised in Indonesia and Hawaii. He earned an undergraduate degree from Columbia University in 1983 and a law degree from Harvard in 1991. He then joined the Chicago law firm of Miner, Barnhill & Galland, which specialized in civil rights legislation. He also lectured at the University of Chicago. He was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996, and then to the U.S. Senate in 2004, beating Republican candidate Alan Keyes. Obama shot to national fame after delivering the keynote speech in support of John Kerry at the 2004 Democratic national convention. The speech established Obama as a rising star in the party. Obama announced in February of 2007 that he would run for president in 2008; his last opponent, Hillary Clinton, dropped from the race in June of 2008, and Obama was formally nominated at the party's convention that August. He named Delaware senator Joe Biden to be his running mate. Obama published the personal memoir Dreams from My Father in 1995, and published a second book, The Audacity of Hope, in 2006. The title of the latter book was also the title of his 2004 keynote speech, and both books won Grammys for best spoken word album.

This country is a place where EVERYONE (except Native Americans, i.e. "Indians") all have ancestry in different countries. Who are we to question the auntencity of a man who was born in the United States simply because of his name? Of course, this would not be a question if he was of European ancestry. How dare we question someone's loyalty to the United States because he wears his father's last name. We ought to be ashamed of the audacity of having hope in something different. Change is necessary if the U.S. is ever going to evolve into what it is destined to be. We are more behind in our way of thinking than our so-called Third World counterparts. In other countries, it is not outrageous to think that an African American man or a woman could hold such a prestigous role. We need to get with the times. Those who do not adapt and embrace change, will surely die. Ultimately, because there is no growth. If there is no growth or change of thought, then what is our purpose?

  • Posted By: Sephy479 @ 08/28/2008 11:51:55 AM

Is anyone truly surprised by this??? I am of the Generation Y, and my friends and I have been discussing this for months. The older generations of this country are racist, sexist, and homophobic. Whether the presidential candidate is black, gay or a woman, the crazies of our country will threaten their life.

They must think that anyone different from a rich white man would run our country into the toilet. I mean look at the great job all of the past rich white men have done??? Our health care blows, we are in a pointless war, the dollar is worth next to nothing. Ah yes, what a great job these rich white men have done.

      Youre a man, arent you?

  • Posted By: White Scapegoat @ 08/28/2008 12:07:54 PM

    Soccermom78,

I agree with your point that Obama is half-white and half-black. However, I have to disagree with the remainder of your post. Obama is NOT the product of generations of hard working black folks. He is the product of a black father (from Africa) and a white mother . While he was young his father abandoned him (which is predominant in the black culture) and he was raised by his white mother and grandparents. So, your factoid about white mothers receiving the majority of welfare assistance is skewed and Obama's own mother is a quality example. How many of the white mothers on that ridiculously incorrect fact were impregnated and abandoned by the father of their half-black child? I think in a country that is MOSTLY white it would be reasonable to believe that white mothers are the majority of welfare recipients. But, take a look at the proportions and find that blacks make up MORE THAN THEIR SHARE in correlation with the population. Additionaly, you don't want your race stereotyped yet you choose to stereotype whites as "trailer trash" and "rednecks." As far as your references to meth; I think the Black man created meth to destroy the white society. You know, the same way the White man created crack cocaine and AIDS to ruin black society. Retarded right? Congratulations on your successes, but realize that you and your husband do not deserve a gold star for making it in America and raising your kids-that's expected of you. After all, white-established programs like Affirmitive Action and scholarships aimed strictly at minorities gave you every chance in the world to succeed. There are magazines, radio shows, music, and television stations aimed specifically at blacks; I think we all know that if a White Entertainment Television sprung up in America Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would be on its doorstep within hours of its inception. Our kids are forced to worship a varitable handful of African-American innovations in Black History Month while they spend the other seven months of the school year learning about how the white devil owned slaves and stole the Indians' land. You listed a plethora of crimes that you view as "white-specific," but take a look inside the prison system and what do you find? In a country that is mostly white the prisoners are 80% minority; so what does that tell you? I know, I know, you're going to say that white police intentionally framed the black men and that it is all a conspiracy. You should know that government programs made it mandatory to increase the number of minorities in the police force years ago-and blacks are still braking the law comprising a huge percentage of the prison population. How can we NOT be afraid of black people?

    • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 08/28/2008 2:11:39 PM

By the way this country is mostly Latino, or haven't you followed the news lately. By 2042 YOU will be a minority! Scarey Huh! Regarding Affirmative Action the group that has benefited most from this are White Women. You do not read much do you?

    • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 08/28/2008 2:09:19 PM

Tell you what you can make these types of blanket statements "While he was young his father abandoned him (which is predominant in the black culture), when you stop all of the incest, mass murder and pedophilia (which are more predominant in the white culture than in any other).

See we can do the tit for tat BS all day but what would it prove? All races have crosses to bear!

    • Posted By: BRM@ @ 08/28/2008 1:57:39 PM

      White Scapegoat----

Your post is AFFIRMATION that affirmative action is/was very much needed. There are still many whites unfortunately think like you do, with a very narrowminded view about your fellow Americans. How can we trust someone like you to be in a position of power, to play fair, to decide who gets the job, who gets to get that home loan, etc, especially that so many panties and drawers (including your own) are in a bunch over this black looking candidate with the 'weird' name just for those reasong alone.

Aside from the quote 'experience' question, what is it about Obama that is not appealing. A man with tenancity, great intellect, family man---but I KNOW you just see a black man and whether you want to admit it or not it shakes up your sensibilities for all the wrong reasons. The status quo IS to be challenged.

Ever notice that most blacks and other minorities that succeed on grand scales have had to work harder, be smarter. That has been my observation..

    • Posted By: HavanaBaddog @ 08/28/2008 12:25:13 PM

Two questions/comments: Who CLAIMS to be the champion of affirmative action? Who was the actual champion of affirmative action? The claim is being made even today by the Democratic Party. The actual champion was........ Richard Nixon.. Without tricky Dick there may have never been affirmative action. Food for thought.

Let me appeal to the African Americans on the board....We didn't venture hered to the US we were bought here against our will, as slaves and have been fighting forever for our rights. Have even lost very perminent people in our struggle to be treated fairly and we are still fighting and struggling to be treated fairly in this very same US. DON'T YOU FEEL CHEATED IN THIS VERY ASPECT OF OUR LIVES IN THE US regardless of our now status here. I personally feel that we should have long ago gotten our rights tto be treated fairly as the laws started being changed in our favor, it should have all been one complete package. I feel like the soo many children bought into the world only to have their parent(s) walk out on them...Futhermore, I think that if Hilary had won this far into the election she wouldn't have included Obama in her election as she expected him to, as his running mate. I really didn't see that happening.......I am just praying that this election goes over Ok and everyone is safe and sound. This threating and bantering is truly childish in my eyes sight. I feel everyone should vote for who they are going to vote for and leave it at that. Unfortunately, I don't vote because I feel it is a waist of my time because they will put who they want into office at ANY cost. Hasn't that been proven already???

    • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 08/28/2008 2:01:55 PM

I am not interested in addressing any of the topics that you raised in your post except the fact that YOU DO NOT VOTE!

First of all If you are not interested in who making decisions that affect your life, then why are you on these boards?

Secondly If you think so litte of yourself and your country that as you stated "Voting is a waste of time" then understand this FACT! YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT ANYTHING!
      No Vote, No B!tching Rights!

Shame that if one life is about to be taken ( the mother) at the expense of another (the Child) we seem to want it to be a simple solution. By supporting a bill that atleast gives the option of abortion you are helping save one of those lives no matter the term of the child. Because if there is no mother to raise or help raise this child then you are still in a bad position. Obama does not support abortion as a means of birth control. hell that issue effects the black community the most. On another note- How many of you can truly say I have adopted kids who's mothers wanted to abort them..90% of the so called troops against abortion whom say that there are alternatives are not helping just talking.

blah, blah, blah, how dumb r u people? u really think ur vote matters? REALLY? wow, u r dumb. let's see, did Bush win the popular vote?...no. so go ahead waste ur time and vote but in the end whoever is in office has lobbyists lining his pockets to makae sure the special interest group gets what they want while the rest of us suffer. they are both crooks...until they stop taking money from lobbyists they are one in the same. its amazing to c u people all brainwashed into thinking u have some influence on what happens, or that the candidates are different. wake the fck up and realize that neither cares about YOU, just how they can make more money for the elite and themselves. but they sure got you idiots thinking they are different and that your vote matters...so go vote and feel like you mnade a difference, then in 4 years tell me how much better off you are not. when the lobbyists are out of the picture, then just maybe, we can have someone for the people, but until then u r wasting your time voting, but hey they make you feel like u r doing something...americans r so dumb

Not voting is not the right answer. If you don't vote, you certainly get the government you deserve. Instead, make your vote count. I agree that lobbyists have their hands in both sides. So to send the message that this must stop, we need to elect individuals outside of the two party system. Vote Libertarian! At least they're not infected by lobbyists...yet. If they get big enough, though, the'y'll be no different than the current parties. As long as money is involved, the political process will always be compromised in this country.

A "fetus" is not a baby ding dong! It's a mass of cells with no conscious. It has the building blocks to become a baby, just like a tomato seed has the ability to become a tomato. You fundamentalists think only in terms of what the "Bible" says. Their are many religions around the world and many diffferent viewpoints. We need to stop demonizing other people for what they believe.

I guess you are okay then with all the killing of the world. Since abortion is legal.

This country is unbelievable!! Why nobody thought of killing Bush in all these 8 years, this ignorant that has caused so much damage to this nation and to so many famiies?? It looks like the idiots can get away with anything... US is famous for killing their best and brightest leaders: John F Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X... Every time somebody bright comes with fresh ideas and a real hope to change our future, they want
the Jesus sy automatically somebody will try to kill him.

Here's my take on the story.
I know Tharin personally. We've DJed together at parties and clubs several times over the last few years, and have hung out briefly, but I have never been very close to the kid. However, there are some things that I do know about Tharin: 1. He is NOT a white supremicist and 2. He wouldn't try to assinate Obama. Being a DJ, in our scene, you are friends with every kind of person. Gay, straight, man, woman, black, white, hispanic, asian, native american, jewish, muslim, christian, atheist, buddhist, hindu; every type of person is a member of this scene, but we do not (as far as I can tell) have any white, black, or anything inbetween, supremecists in this scene. I think that a culture of complete inclusion, open mindedness and respect for difference doesn't really appeal to bigots and haters.
Tharin has been having a tough time these last few months, ever since a good friend of his (who happened to be hispanic) commited suicide. I also know that he had a problem with meth, and I would not be surprised if he turned to it during his grief and suffering. Now let me make it clear that I'm not condoning drug abuse as a way to cope with the death of a loved one, but in Tharin's case, it may have been the easiest route. Some of the biggest meth dealers/ runners in Colorado are members of various biker gangs, some of whom (not all) could be considered white supremecists. So, logic would state that if you wanted to have a steady stream of meth, either because you wanted to deal or use it, one of the easiest ways is to get in contact with these individuals tied to these various gangs.
Tharin has probably been dealing to support his habit, and has gotten mixed up with the wrong group of people. He turned them over to the police rather quickly, leading me to believe that he didn't want anything to do with any assination plot. If there had been a plot, and he was part of it, don't you think he would have kept his mouth shut in order to keep the plan going? That's pretty logical, don't you think. I hope that he gets the help that he needs to get clean, because I do think that Tharin is a good kid, and he has a good heart. I've seen it; I know it's there. And I hope that the others involved get what they deserve, and spend a long time in the federal pen.
