Why do the talking heads feel they need to 'explain' to the viewers what was meant when the candidate said, 'blah, blah, blah'. I am an adult with a normal IQ. I don't need someone explainging everththing to me like i was a child. Just SHUT UP already.

If you watch this stuff on anything but C-Span you are depriving yourself of the right to think for yourself.

Dems choose Obama in thunderous acclamation
Yahoo News by David Espo, AP Special Correspondent Wed Aug 27, 7:18 PM ET

Clinton's call for Obama to be approved by acclamation ??? midway through the traditional roll call of the states ??? was the culmination of a painstaking agreement worked out between the two camps to present a unified front.

    My commentary:

So, democrats, in order to portray a false unification, schemed to allow politics to trump the democratic process.

And they are insulted when people don???t refer to them as the democrat(ic) party!

Yes, the truth is offensive to the democrat party!

    • Posted By: cheetahs11 @ 08/29/2008 12:37:03 AM

Yes, and to show their true unity, Bill and Hillary Clinton were conspicuously absent during Obama's historic speech tonight. The ONLY night that I wanted to see Hillary there, to show the nation that there was indeed unity, she wasn't. Those two aren't fooling anyone. The last two nights were simply about the Clintons. A sad statement for me to say because I am a huge supporter of BILL Clinton and the job he did as president. Not too proud of him this past year though. He and Hillary have been very divisive for the Democratic party and if Obama loses, I will place the blame firmly on them. I truly thought their respective speeches were a positive step towards bringing much needed unity, but now they just seem to ring hollow. All they did was bring drama, turmoil and attention to themselves when it should have been on Obama. Sorry this is a bit off the subject, but it kind of goes with this post.

I will never watch the convention on any of the major networks again. Between MSNBC whistle stop coverage, and CNN'S all talk, no coverage, I finally found C-SPAN, where I got to form my own opionion.

you read my mind; it is so annoying when Wolf Blitzer and gang and Fox and MSNBC--spend more time wanting to hear their own droning voices(and mind you--the same repeating commentary) and not let us actually hear the speakers and make our own judgments. I was also annoyed when the networks came on and spent the first 15-20 minutes with their own commentary rather than actually showing more clips of what happened during the evening's speeches. By doing so, we missed Spielberg's film for the soldiers and a part of Beau Biden's moving introduction of his father. C-Span it is!

great ads by Mccain featuring Hillary and Joe Biden. Makes them both look like flaming idiots.

    • Posted By: onepoker @ 08/28/2008 2:49:26 PM

      a perfect snap shot then.

  • Posted By: tonn @ 08/28/2008 1:09:42 PM

Let them all be heard !!!

  • Posted By: tonn @ 08/28/2008 1:07:06 PM

i have a friend who only watches fox untill i told her to check out other stations. but she has been programmed in her mind all the false information about the political candidates. the msnbc is calling for democrats to speak very harsh against mccain . this is a problem because our country has become conscience seared! we want to fight and not really hear the issues, or just have the truth be known. politics should be encouraging and not such about hard word thrown againt the other. there is no innocense in our hearts for good campaign ,but for a nasty word or mudslinging. you cant teach your child to play nice and root for a fight for adults . .John Kerry was great!! I say ,Keep it clean all the way , Mccain act like a junk yard dog!!! It does not appeal to all american!!

  • Posted By: HRHC93 @ 08/28/2008 12:00:48 PM

Agreed, especially after last night and the fact that MSNBC barely aired one uninterrupted minute of John Kerry's awesome speech. I was so disappointed.

Bush and his lackey, John McCain, have hit rock bottom. They have no vision for America. Bush and McCain have committed irreprehensible acts of violence and murder through forcing our militaries to commit to infamous wars. Bush and McCain have revised the Constitution to fit their vision. Bush and McCain have walked on people's rights with illegal incarcerations in Guantanamo and wire tapping. Bush and McCain have abused their positions to profit from BIG OIL. Bush and McCain have deprived the troops of sufficient protection from extremists and terrorists. McCain and Bush have not stood up against Domestic terrorism such as hate crimes against the liberal base, i.e. The Republican that entered the church and fatally shot audience members and the Arkansas Democratic headquarters.

Bush and McCain have failed to capture Bin Laden. They are failures.

  • Posted By: megfitz @ 08/27/2008 11:32:44 AM

Thank you! I couldn't stand listening to the panel on MSNBC last ngiht constantly complaning that none of the speakers were focusing on McCain and Bush! I thought the majority of the speaches(mostly watched on c-span) were inspirational, refeshing and most importantly positive. I'm tired of the media focusing on negativity and verbal attacks.
I wish they would get the point that Americans are not morons, and tha we can think for ourself.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 08/27/2008 2:06:08 PM

      Did you vote in 2004?
The voters in 2004 pretty much voted that they'll believe whatever FOX news says.
FOX, in case you didn't know, is run by Republicans, who took their direction from the Bush family and a few others.

In doing so, by and large Americans voted that by and large we WERE a bunch of morons who can't think for ourselves.
Whether we are now or not is an open question, but will be decided again in November.

The Iraq war was planned before 9/11, and started under false pretenses based on lies to the American people and the rest of the world.
Republicans have tried to justify torture, and spying on Americans.
Prostituted oil as the solution for our energy problems for 30 years.
In fact when Cheney was consulting oil executives on our new energy policy, they studied maps of Iraq's oil fields, and started a war to increase oil profits for their oil companies.
They run campaigns based on lies and slander about their opponents.
And they blatently try to interfere with the primary process by pitting one Democrat against another.
Everytime they take power the run the national debt up to new record levels.

We can wait and see in November, but given some recent polls, it appears a sizable number of us are indeed morons who can not think for themselves. Who knows though, maybe one of these days we'll learn a lesson.

      • Posted By: onepoker @ 08/28/2008 11:53:16 AM

Yup Fox engineered the whole thing. A tiny upstart network funded by the cia snuck into living rooms all across america and changed the channel from the unbiased and jounalistically prisitine CNN and Msnbc. While we slept Dick Cheney plotted with the Saudi Royal Family how he could sell out his country but make millions for Haliburton. And Gonzales moved quickly to eliminate every Democrat employed by the government. They had just about gained control of the whole world when those pesky kids in the Mystery machine found out Cheney was actually Osama Bin Laden. Blast you Pesky kids!

The televises coverage has been disgraceful - worthy of reality tv and insulting to our democracy. I can't tell if it is biased against Obama or if we will later be treated to the same inane blather and drama manufacturing for the Republican Party. I guess I will find out shortly.

I have turned off CNN for good and moved to C-span and PBS. I don't mind discussion or even some bias if I know who is talking but the level of spin and stupidity makes me embarassed that a nation like ours has sunk so low. I have been watching conventions since Nixon. They used to make me feel proud of either candidate and their accomplishments even if I was strongly in favor of one more than the other. Now they are about cutting everyone down and finding the lowest denominator of behavior. I miss those anchors of old that were respectful and treated us like we had brains to use.

    • Posted By: onepoker @ 08/28/2008 11:32:19 AM

You mean back when they let us watch the speech and then wondered allowed how it resonated with the folks. Instead of telling us exactly how we interpretted the speech and how we may not have been clever enough to pick up on the nuances of the speeches.

Yea I miss that also. Bring back Ted Koppel and Sam Donaldson I miss real newsmen even if they were biased they didn't openly root for one side.

Obama was so happy with the cameras on him all the time, people talking about how wonderful he was all the time, apparently he convinced the DNC that it would be a good thing.

Too bad it has become so boring. Even the Obama supporters I know have said they can't watch the coverage, and the speeches on CSpan2 aren't any better. Dull, dull, dull, except for HRC.

Nobody's fault but the DNC that promoted the mass media affair.

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 08/27/2008 5:19:43 PM

OMG, have you seen what they have built for Obamas speech tomorrow nite? It is hugeeeeeeeeeeeee. The repubs are going to have a field day talking about that. Im not kidding . . . it looks like it is a mult tiered staging . . . something out of Greek methology for stage setting. God help us if he gets into the White House.

      • Posted By: onepoker @ 08/28/2008 11:27:23 AM

actually I heard the stage is going to be a mock up of the white house. It isnt the greek Obamatropolis we were hoping for owell I guess they can't screw everything up..

      • Posted By: NCGirl @ 08/27/2008 6:32:55 PM

God help us if he doesn't get into the White House.

        • Posted By: jazzbebop @ 08/28/2008 1:14:36 AM

Whats God got to do with it... he wouldn't vote for either one of them. So, as for you and me - stay clear of Obama - cause we will all be doing alot of praying if he makes it in. He is one messed up individual. Power monger - socialism - tax us to death - racist. Obama would be the death of us all.

      • Posted By: loriw @ 08/27/2008 11:59:37 PM

Boy I am I confused. During Obama's European tour and speeches I thought he was running for President of the World. Then during the convention I thought, no, silly me he really is JUST running for POTUS, but now it appears I was right the first time...he really is running for president of the WORLD!

      • Posted By: NCGirl @ 08/27/2008 6:34:04 PM

ABC Reporter Arrested in Denver Taking Pictures
    of Senators, Big Donors

Asa Eslocker Was Investigating the Role of Lobbyists and Top Donors
at the Convention ABC News by Brian Ross Aug. 27, 2008

DENVER--Police in Denver arrested an ABC News producer today as he and a camera crew were attempting to take pictures on a public sidewalk of Democratic Senators and VIP donors leaving a private meeting at the Brown Palace Hotel.

Police on the scene refused to tell ABC lawyers the charges against the producer, Asa Eslocker, who works with the ABC News investigative unit.

A cigar-smoking Denver police sergeant, accompanied by a team of five other officers, first put his hands on Eslocker's neck, then twisted the producers arm behind him to put on handcuffs.

A police official later told lawyers for ABC News that Eslocker is being charged with trespass, interference, and failure to follow a lawful order. He also said the arrest followed a signed complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel.

Eslocker was put in handcuffs and loaded in the back of a police van which headed for a nearby police station.

Video taken at the scene shows a man, wearing the uniform of a Boulder County sheriff, ordering Eslocker off the sidewalk in front of the hotel, to the side of the entrance.

The sheriff's officer is seen telling Eslocker the sidewalk is owned by the hotel. Later he is seen pushing Eslocker off the sidewalk into oncoming traffic, forcing him to the other side of the street.

It was two hours later when Denver police arrived to place Eslocker under arrest, apparently based on a complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel, a central location for Democratic officials.

Eslocker and his ABC News colleagues are spending the week investigating the role of corporate lobbyists and wealthy donors at the convention for a series of Money Trail reports on ABC World News with Charles Gibson.

maybe we will get some real indepth coverage of that supposed Gitmo like facility in Denver.

  • Posted By: winelover @ 08/28/2008 11:10:06 AM

Excellent report! The top 3 1/2 networks are too busy listening to them selves. You would almost think that the media had changed their party affiliation and become biased with the pachyderms. We all know that the 1/2 network (Fox) would certainly been biased, but that's why I ignore them completely.

    • Posted By: onepoker @ 08/28/2008 11:19:41 AM

Maddow mathews and Olberman on MSNBC sure seemed unbiased.

  • Posted By: onepoker @ 08/28/2008 11:17:34 AM

This is a very good article congratulations on getting it right! I am comming from the other side of the Isle but I completely agree with your assesment of the coverage it was crazy. I watched some of the speech on cnbc and could not beleive Mathews, Olberman, and Maddow spent more time talking about Bidens speech on paper than the one he actually gave. They critiqued his delivery and missed the message. They were confounded as to why he didn't emphasize they points they thought mattered most instead of trying to figure out exactly what it was he had to say. Since when do the reporters get to go back and re do the speech. It was disgusting.

I for one was kind of looking forward to the average everyday person the Democrats had hoped to trot out on stage and give the most important speech of their lives but instead I was treated to more commentary on what I had already seen by people more interested in the delivery than the content.

The one shining star has been Luke Russert he reports with a small chip on his shoulder and gives a glib slightly jaded report on what is really going on. I laughed out loud as he pointed out the games of the convention eyeing the process with the kind of skeptisism that used to be a hallmark of true journalism.

I have also noticed many of the political posters on this site and others have watched the convention on Cspan (atleast nancy didnt shut down the lights) the unfiltered raw approach is probably the only way to get the message the conventioneers are trying to project.

  • Posted By: wjreynolds @ 08/28/2008 10:40:47 AM

Indeed, CSPAN is the way to go with these events. My son had to watch one of the speeches and write a report on it for his own speech class, so I recommended CSPAN for Sen. Biden's speech, knowing that my son would hear the speech and not some self-appointed "expert" yammering over it.

  • Posted By: copay @ 08/28/2008 8:49:17 AM

You are right on. Thanks to the abysmal coverage, I have discovered CSPAN and intend to stay with it for the duration.

  • Posted By: EE7011 @ 08/28/2008 8:39:52 AM

Let's face it folks, they've got us hooked. Many keep complaining about political coverage and commentary, but we keep tuning in to the same blabber mouths. As long as we keep watching, they'll keep talking(yelling) that's how they remain on TV. If you don't like it, C-Span and PBS are better options, like other posters have mentioned.

  • Posted By: corwin27 @ 08/28/2008 8:22:24 AM

    PBS PBS PBS
at least the bloviating is kept to a minimum between speeches. The rest of the media coverage is nothing more than hackneyed self absorbed navel gazing. At least they are getting the conflict that they keep promoting----with each other!
