Comment: "He's only running because he is black. He has no experience at all." Can you get more ridiculous without seeming racist? Senator Obama has enough experience to know that America cannot continue to move in the direction it has for the last eight years. It would seem many Americans and many others abroad agree.

Comment: I thought this article was going to be interesting. Contrasting open and honest Biden with secretive and behind the scenes Cheney. No, it goes on to try to cast doubt on Obama (again) but adds a new wrinkle " Is Biden too cocky?" Does the media even try to provide the public with any answers anymore? Or has it just become a matter of who can ask the most inane questions?

Comment: Now that HE has been crowned it may be the time for exposition. Please google: Obama's money machine and we will find how his team successfully raised enormous amounts of money through internet scheme and bundlers all under the radar.
Search you will find. The same money machine which worked for Obama stands to gain from him. From what? from his sleazy promise of going energy "independent" by investing 150 billion into renewable energy market. Who are these people behind obama, the same people from the time of Silicon Valley Internet boom, which left millions of retiress poorer exactly by the end of Clinton Era. So if it was internet bubble at the time of Clinton and oil energy bubble with Bush Cheney. ... wait till you see the next bubble.... with the pumping of 150 billion dollars into sham projects. I just have to post this theory since that is one way I can keep my consceince clean. Thank you. I don't mind if Republicans run with this idea and revelation.

Comment: The problem for McCain is his "Judgment", if he really had superior military insight, he would have never agreed to go to Iraq until Afghanistan was "mission accomplished". If mccain would have wanted to defeat Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, where they make base and train, if he would have wanted to actually bring BIN LADEN to justice, if MCCAIN has TRUE judgment, he would have stood on the floor of the Senate and said "WRONG WAR WRONG TIME!" We would have "WON" in Afghanistan, instead of "cutting" our ability to supply more troops and "running" to Iraq, for a "WAR FOR OIL" and for the bush ego.

If McCain had done that, there would not have been a "SURGE" required, AT ALL. thousands of Iraqis and hundreds od Americans would have been saved...but NOPE! McCain and BUSH wanted to go to a country that NEVER ATTACKED THE US, and star another war, and now MCCAIN AND BUSH want to go "bomb Iran, bomb bomb Iran". before Afghanistan or Iraq are clear...and you call that a "military mentality", you call that "Judgment"?

    Comment:
When you talk about Biden and his integrity, I wonder how you excuse the issues that he has had in the past, notably the plagiarism and things like that. I am not looking for a fight, I am just curious as to if its just selective attention to actions, or if there is a reasoning used to excuse his behavior.

Please, also, if you don't know the whole story, please read about it first. He didn't just copy a line from someone else's speech, he copied their personal history and values and basically directed the pronouns in the original speech to himself and his family. So it is a bit disturbing on that level.

I am also curious as to him giving advice how to have conversations equates at all to foreign relation skills when it is a known issue that he wanted to segregate and divide the populace based on belief and ethnicity.

Again, not looking for a fight...would like a thoughtful answer if anyone is at the computer and has the time. A lot of times if you just plainly state your case, it helps someone like me see things in a different perspective. I am not looking to debate or decide if your beliefs are right or wrong, I just want to hear them without all the anger chatter that derails 95% of the posts here.

    • Posted By: reinadelaz @ 08/28/2008 4:39:40 PM

Comment: As for the speech he lifted from the Brit, there were several times in which he gave that speech and cited his source before the one time he gave it and did not. As for the segregation of Iraq, iti is a common sense approach, as religion and ethinicity is exactly what these people are fighting over. Perhaps it oversimplifies the problem, kind of like sending squabbling children each to their own rooms. If you cannot or will not get along, just stay away from each other. Iraq is a mess, though, because Bush/Cheney would not follow Biden's call to leave Saddam Hussein in power. Bush Sr. did this in the 90's because he, like Joe Biden, understood that it took a brutal dictator to keep the factions from killing each other. Hope this helps you see things my way :) Obama/Biden 08

Comment: Biden unpopular in Iraq for autonomy plan
    Mon Aug 25, 2008 6:40am EDT

By Peter Graff and Khalid al-Ansary

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Senator Joe Biden may be one of the only U.S. politicians that can get Iraq's feuding Sunni, Shi'ite and Kurdish politicians to agree. But not in a good way.
Across racial and religious boundaries, Iraqi politicians on Saturday bemoaned Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama's choice of running mate, known in Iraq as the author of a 2006 plan to divide the country into ethnic and sectarian enclaves.

"This choice of Biden is disappointing, because he is the creator of the idea of dividing Iraq," Salih al-Mutlaq, head of National Dialogue, one of the main Sunni Arab blocs in parliament, told Reuters.
"We rejected his proposal when he announced it, and we still reject it. Dividing the communities and land in such a way would only lead to new fighting between people over resources and borders.

Iraq cannot survive unless it is unified, and dividing it would keep the problems alive for a long time."
Delaware senator Biden unveiled his plan to divide Iraq into a federation of autonomous Sunni, Shi'ite and Kurdish zones at a time when sectarian killing in Iraq was out of control and getting worse.
"The idea, as in Bosnia, is to maintain a united Iraq by decentralizing it, giving each ethno-religious group -- Kurd, Sunni Arab and Shiite Arab -- room to run its own affairs," he proposed in a May 2006 piece he co-wrote in the New York Times.

    • Posted By: neos @ 08/28/2008 5:28:53 PM

Comment: Please use language carefully. Your comment is misleading. According to your story a SUNNI is unhappy with Senator Biden. I can tell you that the Kurdish iraqis are delighted with the idea of a Belgium style federalism. As for the Shi'ite??? Because of these disparate longings, no American politician's plan, be it Republican or Democratic, will be universally acceptable in Iraq.

Of course even when chauvinistic media and extreme right republicans hate it, THERE IS NO ONE LIKE HILLARY, and we all know it. After Hillary, Joe is not a bad choice.

Barack and Joe, have principles, are humane, decent, with policies and plans for the future of the country,
the poor, middle class, education, health, etc. etc. Republicans specially this administration all that they
care about is making money for themselves and their rich friends, and creating wars around the world as a business, killing millions of human beings, while our people are practically starving, loosing their homes &
jobs. That is not only inhumane, but inmoral and criminal.
    Hope Hill

    • Posted By: justathought717 @ 08/28/2008 5:57:22 PM

Comment: I agree. This administration has shown through example what they are here for. War and money. I can only imagine how much money they have made in the last 8 years.

Our only hope for this country is to get the Democrats back into the White House. How can people forget what it was like the last time Dems were in there? My family was in so much better shape financially back then, as well as most other Americans. Yes, I understand that certain issues come up that the President cannot control, but it is the policies he makes in response that make the difference.

Everyone is talking about Obama's lack of experience, yet it seems like he has made many decisions that have proved to be correct while Bush (McCain-note voting record) have made some pretty bad choices. Obama/Biden really seem very sincere in wanting to turn our country around and make it a better place to live. Let's vote to make their hope our reality.

Comment: The sign of a good manager is one who hires people who are smarter than himself, not that Obama is a dummy by any stretch of the imagination.
But the selection of Biden is brilliant.

The fact is Cheney has put his own economy above and beyond anything else, did you not notice Cheney's income in 2006 was 1.6 million and 3.2 million in 2007 and that would not include the dollars from Iraq that went through Dubai to the Caymans tax free via KBR or future payouts as a result of his efforts in favor of the oil companies.

That we are going to have both a president and a vice president not just with intelligence and a common sense approch, but a Vision for America is exciting.

Yes Biden is indeed the very opposite of Cheney.

If you really took the time to evaluate the "major issues we are facing in this country right now" you would realize that you are living with blinders on. Would Jesus not want people to have affodable healthcare? Would he not want us to help protect the environment for future generations? Would he not want to improve the quality of the education for our children? Go ahead and use your fear over abortion and gay rights as justification, but don't drag Jesus into it. Comment: Democrat...Democrat...major issues we are facing in this country and you are blaming Democrats. Bush has just wiped his brow because he thought you were going to blame him for this.

Please don't put Jesus into politics. We are ALL sinners.

    • Posted By: millerm84 @ 08/28/2008 8:25:15 AM

Comment: What Jesus would do is not what Christians in this country would do trust me. Jesus would have never bombed Iraq or Afghanistan, or hunted bin Laden, in fact Jesus would have dropped food, medicine, and books into those countries, and told bin Laden that he was forgiven for all his crimes. Jesus would stop abortions not by outlawing them but by having the government pay for each and every child born out of wedlock. The truth of the matter is that outside of banning abortion and praying in schools, republicans stand against every thing Jesus would do. If you can't see that then you are as dumb as you are blind.

Comment: I must be blind because I don't see it. But then I don't have your certainty and knowledge regarding what Jesus would do in these circumstances. It must be a great thing to have your insight!

And McCain running circles around Obama at the Warren forum is a perception that only a Republican could have. For those who have problems with "senior moments"...and things like calling Putin Kruschev (which has happened only in Ms. W's imagination) or calling the Czech Republic Czechoslovakia (which McCain really did)...you are going to have some problems with the elderly, confused McCain.

Are you this moronic that you can't find a better form of birth control? For God sake's try a condom! They are cheap and relatively easy to master for anyone with an IQ above 80 and a fifth grade education. You are the poster child for the pro-life movement. The one who makes it harder and harder for women to keep abortion legal. If you can't master a condom, keep your legs closed so you don't mess with my legal rights!

Comment: There could be a difference of character between Biden and Cheney, but it is not a fundamental difference. When it comes to serious things, they are pretty much the same. They both support aggressive US foreign policy and both represent the interest of the military-industrial complex. Biden quickly sided with the administration hawks on punishing Russia for its Georgia transgressions. If it goes on like this, there will be only cosmetic change in the US foreign policy under the Obama-Biden administration. The war in Iraq will end, but it will be replaced by confrontation with Russia. That is, more of the same: overblown military budget at the expense of increasing the national debt, burdening the economy, and lowering living standards of an average American.

The real change that Americans expect from Obama should be a radical departure from the current foreign policy. Ending the wars, mending fences with Russia, and, with Russian cooperation, solving the Mid-Eastern problem. Diverting taxpayers money from fat cats at Northrop and Raytheon to solving energy and environment problems, creation of jobs, fixing medical care and education.

But Obama's choice of a hardened cold warrior as his VP makes all this highly unlikely.

  • Posted By: klebrun @ 08/27/2008 8:29:49 PM

Comment: Cheney will continue to be a political powerhouse as the front man for the oil industry, military suppliers and the right wing business community. It is inconceivable that this power hungry right winger will willingly give up anything just because he has lost the title of VP.

With McCain averse to getting involved in the details, he will be dependent upon his handlers for the information that he receives concerning foreign and domestic issues.

Cheney, as Bush's handler, is reported to have fed Bush only the information that Cheney wanted Bush to have.

Given Cheney's position of power amongst the financially powerful, it is very conceivable that Cheney will end up controlling McCain's handlers and that Cheney will contnue to effectively call the shots in a McCain presidency.

Comment: And you don't know the power that Cheney has and the disconnect that McCain has.

  • Posted By: Galasso @ 08/27/2008 8:29:36 PM

Comment: You have to chuckle at Romney's repeat of a description of Biden from the past. When asked if he thought Biden would be a formidable debate candidate (if Romney is the pick) - he said Biden has been described as "an impenetrable thicket of words". Biden rarely has a private thought, but he is the logical keel of stability if the country elects someone as radical and idealistic as Obama.

    • Posted By: loriw @ 08/27/2008 11:12:13 PM

Comment: Between Biden's "impenetrable thicket of words" and Obama's "nuance" (read- shell game with words)
the debates should be pretty entertaining. McCain is going to run circles around Obama just like he did at the Warren forum.
"Tell me words don't matter" ???
They do when we see that they contradict themselves.

Comment: it was a forum not a debate, only you republicans are stupid enough to think you can win a forum which was supposed to expose people to the candidates ideas about useless issues that conservatives lose sleep over

  • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 08/27/2008 7:22:28 PM

Comment: Of course Biden won't revert to the old VP role. He's too talented a man to waste in such a way.

And Obama won't ask him to.

A true leader gathers as many sharp advisors around him as possible. A true leader doesn't have to have all the answers - he just needs to know where he can find them. I believe Obama when he says he doesn't want a 'yes' man - and he certainly doesn't have one in Biden.

Obama can feel quite competent about his foreign policy insticts and still seek out other wise opinions. In fact, a person who is confident in his ability is more likely to feel comfortable with feedback and input - only the insecure avoid discussion and challenge. (Just like Bush the Younger avoiding the advice of both his father and Colin Powell, because he couldn't stand to hear from others who didn't see it his way).

Many have praised Governor Schweitzer of Montana for his speech last night, correctly noting that he has many intellegent things to say about energy. Obama has gone to Montana no less than 4 times - 3 electoral votes are not the main prize there; Schweitzer's expertise is.Kudos to Obama for seeking him out.

One of the most telling comments LBJ had about a young (read: inexperienced) president Kennedy was the depth and breadth of the advisors around him. That lesson hasn't been lost on Barack Obama.
