Alter is whistling past the graveyard. He can operate Electoral College Calculator 2.2 just like everyone else, and it's starting to look bad for the Dems. Newsweek has been the weekly house rag for the Dems for some years now, but even the Party is starting to be embarassed by the bootlicking. They can see Obama blowing it coming but still can't believe it because for conservatives seeing is believing, while for liberals believing is seeing. The Dems are going to have to run Hillary against McCain/Palin in 2012, and that's another loser. Oh Dear, where will it ever end?

    • Posted By: Pia1981 @ 09/04/2008 3:06:12 PM

Bad for the Dems? You really need to check the polls..CNN and Rasmussen .. Obama-CNN at 49% to 43% for McCain. Rasmussen- O at 50%... M at 45%. Looks like Palin's big speech has not helped thus far.

Here are a few of Obama's favorite daily bloggers who attack posters and obama's opponents because they have nothing else. These represent the above the fray candidate of integrity. This is how they promote their candidate. This is what they think of our brave servicemen in Iraq and the 4152 souls who gave their life so they could sit here and blog about how a mother is sending her son to get slaughtered to make room for the next illegitimate child..

. . . and Harley resorting to name-calling to me because I corrected her in my response was not distasteful act on her part? ? I dont know, I guess Im just used to her and a few others that get mean-spirited and conduct name calling when faced with the truth. I think that is more distasteful than imposter pointing out distasteful acts for what they are from certain Obama supporters.

I was utterly disgusted as a human being that someone would think that - let alone utter it in a public forum as a ; ) joke. A public forum that is accessible by the family forever. It went beyond the usual vicious diatribes and teenage personal attacks. Saying: "Of course, she wants him slaughtered" about a mother you have never met goes beyond tasteless and has nothing to do with snitching. It is vile and henous. There is nothing more reprehensible than demeaning.an American who is willing to die for you - and your family. It's time to stop.

GET REAL! Sarah Palin speech contain no real substance. This was more of a distraction speech to divert away from the real issues. The Repubs are not talking about the real issues that plaguing the America people, because they have no solutions. Republicans, what about the economy-jobs loss, rising costs of healthcare, war in Iraq, energy, home foreclosures, education-etc.. I was not impress whatoever-a speech slamming the media, Obama, Biden and the Washington establishment. Sarah Palin, your speech had no merit, or real susbstance. And kudos to the media, you're are going a great job! Republicans are so out of touch, just look at the crowd at the convention center. There is a lack of diversity in the Republican party. As the country continues to diversifies, but the Republican party has not.

    • Posted By: Angm @ 09/04/2008 2:36:56 PM

Your comment made me curious of the substance you seemed to get from Joe Biden's speech last week at the DNC. If you are like me you were probably impressed that the speech wasn't plagerized or that he didn't mispronounce Barak Obama's name.
It is interesting that all of the liberals commenting as well as Alter seem to be so wary of Sarah Palin that they are either anticipating how she will fail in the near future or are comparing the substance of her speech last evening with Barak Obama's who is actually the Democratic candidate for President.
It is also interesting that individuals who profess their superior intelligence over Governor Palin have to resort to name calling and personal attacks versus a discussion of their differences on policy.
I am actually amazed that most individuals commenting think that governing the State of Alaska is such a simple proposition but they are all agawk of President Clinton who governed the largest trailer park in the country.

I will never understand reading these blogs how people use the argument "would you want her being president if something happens?" People she is running for VP. Obama is running for pres. Please someone tell me what in the world has he done that makes anyone think he is qualified for such a position. His own supporters can't name three things he has done in his carreer. The chosen one has done nothing. Zero! Zip! Nadda!. AND HE IS RUNNING FOR ACTUAL PRESIDENT POSITION NOT VP.

    • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/03/2008 11:44:37 AM

I agree, its VERY scary to think of Obama as President and the ruining of America.

Less Government - Less Taxes - Balance the Budget by SPENDING LESS - We won the Iraq war and troops coming home soon. That's the kind of government I want, not Obama and his crazy VP Biden.

I'd choose Palin over Obama any day of the week. A woman with morals and values vs the lies and immorality of the Democratic party.

I have more problems with Obama's denial of medical care for babies born alive after induced labor/late term abortion than Palin's daughter being pregnant.

          Obama and infanticide
          http://www.newsweek.com/id/156909

After all, Obama's mother was a teenager when she had him, and the man she "married" had other wives. And Obama admits that he himself used cocaine for years, which I feel disqualifies him for the job of POTUS far more than if one of his daughters got pregnant.

Here's the best quote: "...but I can do my job there, in developing our natural resources, and doing things like getting the roads paved, and making sure our troopers have their cop cars and their uniforms, their guns, and making sure our public schools are funded. But really, all that stuff doesn't do any good if the people of Alaska's heart isn't right with God."

Or my second favorite: "I'll do every thing I can, so long as I walk with God, and help you see God..."

Log on to the Chicago Tribune or Chicago Sun Times periodically and see what is happening in the community that the great community organizer and Citizen of the World Obama had been organizing. 50% increase in murder rate. Kids being gunned down by gang violence. A castrated police force. 1,000 kids taken by bus into the suburbs to protest the quality of their education. I can't wait until he starts "organizing" our communities.

Here's a nice account of Obama for you.

In a campaign influenced by Walmart, instead of backing the pro-labor candidate, Obama backed a "Walmart tool."

There was little surprising about Obama's endorsement given his self-interested allegiances to the politically powerful City Hall regime of Chicago's Mayor Daley, with whom Obama shares the same big money campaign super-consultant (David Axlerod) and numerous big money sponsors.

For the first time Mayor Daley had vetoed an ordinance by his normally obedient City Council, a measure widely supported by citizens, community organizations, and labor unions in Chicago's black, Latino, and working-class wards, and he did not want the council to bring the measure up again. It was originally passed by the council under pressure from a remarkable grassroots campaign, and would have required giant retail corporations like Wal-Mart, Target, Lowes, and Home Depot to pay workers a modest minimum wage of ten dollars an hour by 2010.

Wal-Mart and Target announced that they were putting a number of "big box" retail developments on hold in Chicago, and launched a preemptive public relations strike, threatening to disinvest in the city unless a "favorable business climate" was restored. Daley made a special point of wrapping his veto in the flag of racial justice, claiming it was required to permit the flowering of economic development in the city's abandoned ghetto neighborhoods.

Pat Dowell, the recipient of significant support from the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU), was running against Tillman, and Dowell had strongly criticized Tillman for siding with Daley and Wal-Mart.

Obama needed the support of the powerful campaign finance magnet Daley, and endorsed Tillman, over labor-backed Dowell.

Obama's wife Michelle then received $51,200 in 2006 for attending a few board meetings of TreeHouse Foods, a giant firm that relied heavily on its close business relationship with Wal-Mart. The granting of high-pay/do-little board posts to the spouses of politicians is a longstanding tool of the "old," corporate-dominated politics that Senator Obama claims to reject. This is not like Clinton's placement on the board of Walmart as the result of an effort to address sex discrimination in Walmart's employment practices.

Mrs. Obama resigned from her position with TreeHouse in the summer of 2007, citing "increased demands on her time" in connection with her husband's presidential campaign.

      • Posted By: josemarti @ 09/03/2008 12:46:06 PM

If I was going to hire someone to run my company the first thing I would do is look at their education.

Sarah Palin holds a BA in journalism from the University of Idaho, earned with credits from three schools; her grades have not been released
    .
Barack Obama attended Occidental College for two years, and then got his B.A. from Columbia University. He later got his law degree from Harvard Law School (where he became the Harvard Law Review's first black president), graduating magna *** laude. Obama was also a lecturer of constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School.

According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick, they would press their lips to the mirror leaving dozens of little lip prints. Every night the maintenance man would remove them, and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally the principal decided that something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian who had to clean the mirrors every night (you can just imagine the yawns from the little princesses). To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirrors, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee, dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror. There are teachers ... and then there are educators . .i have to wonder how much longer the obama supporters will keep kissing the mirror ?

    • Posted By: ozarkajuice @ 09/03/2008 3:15:47 PM

If you buy a house you CAN NOT AFFORD, you DESERVE to lose it!

If you smoked pot in high school, didn't go to college, than you MIGHT have a hard time getting a job with health insurance!

If you are on welfare with 3 kids and are dirt poor and DECIDE to have another child, guess what you will be poorer and yet another kid to grow up poor, commit crimes, and another person the GOOD people in this country have to support on welfare or in jail!

Why are so many people doing FANTASTIC? Maybe we work harder, studied in school vs having sex and drinking / drugs, spent more time after work planning on starting our own businesses, etc, etc, etc.

    Barack Obama:

Following meetings with U.S. military in Kuwait and Iraq in January 2006, Obama visited Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories. At a meeting with Palestinian students two weeks before Hamas won the legislative election, Obama warned that "the U.S. will never recognize winning Hamas candidates unless the group renounces its fundamental mission to eliminate Israel."

He left for his third official trip in August 2006, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. In a nationally televised speech at the University of Nairobi, he spoke forcefully on the influence of ethnic rivalries and corruption in Kenya.
    --------------
The speech touched off a public debate among rival leaders, some formally challenging Obama's remarks as unfair and improper, others defending his positions.
    --------------
    110th Congress

In the first month of the newly Democratic-controlled 110th Congress, Obama worked with Russ Feingold (D???WI) to eliminate gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and require disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the "Honest Leadership and Open Government Act," which was signed into law in September 2007.
    --------------------
He joined Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in sponsoring S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections.

Obama's energy initiatives scored pluses and minuses with environmentalists, who welcomed his sponsorship with John McCain (R-AZ) of a climate change bill to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by two-thirds by 2050, but were skeptical of his support for a bill promoting liquefied coal production.

Obama also introduced the "Iraq War De-Escalation Act of 2007," a bill to cap troop levels in Iraq, begin phased redeployment, and remove all combat brigades from Iraq before April 2008.
    ---------------------

Later in 2007, Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs.

He sponsored the "Iran Sanctions Enabling Act" supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran's oil and gas industry, and joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.

A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

Karl Rove: "She'll be the most tested and the most judged"

The reviews are in and most people think that Sarah Palin nailed her speech Wednesday night before the Republican National Convention.

Political gurl Karl Rove agrees with those accolades, but also thinks that Palin faces a difficult road ahead.

"She had a test last Friday and she nailed it," Rove told a crowd gathered for a breakfast panel discussion in St. Paul, Minneapolis. "She had a test last night and she nailed it. But being the newest player on the stage, she will also be the most tested and the most judged on the stage. Everyone is going to ask: 'When is she going to appear on a Sunday talk show program?' 'When is she doing to do an interview?' 'When is she going to give an unscripted speech?' 'When will she do a townhall meeting?' 'When will she answer questions on foreign policy?' 'How will she perform in a debate?'"

"And we're going to hear more questions about her performance than about any of the other candidates," said Rove. "The media is going to wonder, 'How can we make this an easy storyline and the easy storyline is, 'Can she do it?'"

Hey Johnathan! Did your Alterego get in the way of your objectivity? Palins better talks and speeches lie ahead!
Obama is in a cross fire of one fire breathing moose eating conservitive and one tough old moderate and appealing to the middle! each on firm footing within their respective political career patterns!
Biden and Obama are secure only in the Liberal/Left-Wing extremo sphere. An extremely limited market for votes!

FORMER ARKANSAS GOV. MIKE HUCKABEE: Palin "got more votes running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska than Joe Biden got running for president of the United States."

THE FACTS: A whopper. Palin got 616 votes in the 1996 mayor's election, and got 909 in her 1999 re-election race, for a total of 1,525. Biden dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses, but he still got 76,165 votes in 23 states and the District of Columbia where he was on the ballot during the 2008 presidential primaries.

FORMER MASSACHUSETTS GOV. MITT ROMNEY: "We need change, all right _ change from a liberal Washington to a conservative Washington! We have a prescription for every American who wants change in Washington _ throw out the big-government liberals, and elect John McCain and Sarah Palin."

THE FACTS: A Back-to-the-Future moment. George W. Bush, a conservative Republican, has been president for nearly eight years. And until last year, Republicans controlled Congress. Only since January 2007 have Democrats have been in charge of the House and Senate.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

MCCAIN: "She's been governor of our largest state, in charge of 20 percent of America's energy supply ... She's responsible for 20 percent of the nation's energy supply. I'm entertained by the comparison and I hope we can keep making that comparison that running a political campaign is somehow comparable to being the executive of the largest state in America," he said in an interview with ABC News' Charles Gibson.

THE FACTS: McCain's phrasing exaggerates both claims. Palin is governor of a state that ranks second nationally in crude oil production, but she's no more "responsible" for that resource than President Bush was when he was governor of Texas, another oil-producing state. In fact, her primary power is the ability to tax oil, which she did in concert with the Alaska Legislature. And where Alaska is the largest state in America, McCain could as easily have called it the 47th largest state _ by population.

MCCAIN: "She's the commander of the Alaska National Guard. ... She has been in charge, and she has had national security as one of her primary responsibilities," he said on ABC.

THE FACTS: While governors are in charge of their state guard units, that authority ends whenever those units are called to actual military service. When guard units are deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, for example, they assume those duties under "federal status," which means they report to the Defense Department, not their governors. Alaska's national guard units have a total of about 4,200 personnel, among the smallest of state guard organizations.

Joe Biden, The American People, The National Enquirer & The People of State Of Alaska will EXPOSE Palin for the Fraud she is !!

ST. PAUL, Minn. ??? Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and her Republican supporters held back little Wednesday as they issued dismissive attacks on Barack Obama and flattering praise on her credentials to be vice president. In some cases, the reproach and the praise stretched the truth.

    Some examples:

PALIN: "I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

THE FACTS: As mayor of Wasilla, Palin hired a lobbyist and traveled to Washington annually to support earmarks for the town totaling $27 million. In her two years as governor, Alaska has requested nearly $750 million in special federal spending, by far the largest per-capita request in the nation. While Palin notes she rejected plans to build a $398 million bridge from Ketchikan to an island with 50 residents and an airport, that opposition came only after the plan was ridiculed nationally as a "bridge to nowhere."

PALIN: "There is much to like and admire about our opponent. But listening to him speak, it's easy to forget that this is a man who has authored two memoirs but not a single major law or reform _ not even in the state senate."

THE FACTS: Compared to McCain and his two decades in the Senate, Obama does have a more meager record. But he has worked with Republicans to pass legislation that expanded efforts to intercept illegal shipments of weapons of mass destruction and to help destroy conventional weapons stockpiles. The legislation became law last year. To demean that accomplishment would be to also demean the work of Republican Sen. Richard Lugar of Indiana, a respected foreign policy voice in the Senate. In Illinois, he was the leader on two big, contentious measures in Illinois: studying racial profiling by police and requiring recordings of interrogations in potential death penalty cases. He also successfully co-sponsored major ethics reform legislation.

PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.
