This article rambled along and seemed a bit vapid. I think the point is, "some people feel fat but society wants them to be thin"? Well, so what? The real world makes me feel skinny, because I am. Doesn't bother me!

In the Matrix trilogy, The "avatar" is directly related to the humans body through the mind. The mind knows what the body looks like. If he were fat when he was plugged in he would be fat outside, the same if he were skinny. They could never change their avatar. Where as in Second life the players can alter their avatar all they want. If need be look up "The Matrix Online" where people create characters that play through the after math of the Trilogy.

Take a look at the avatars in Second Life. A significant minority of persons chooses to make avatars that deviate from the average weight appearance of real humans by at least a standard deviation if not two. Clearly and absolutely, it is their own choice. Perhaps they cherish real people with all our variability?

You watched the movie but obviously didn't understand what you were watching. Morpheus was not an avatar. He was a real person, and real people come in all different shapes and sizes. He sent in Trinity as an avatar into the Matrix virtual-world to get to Neo, so that they could offer him the chance to be a part of the real-life resistance or stay in the dream world as a battery for the machines. Remember Red Pill/Blue Pill?

Regarding the human obsession with the virtual reality, there is a communication from man's Creator that speaks to this directly. In Genesis 6:5 it is said, "Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." Human nature is bent on gratifying and elevating self. It has no desire to lift up others or to praise and obey its Creator. The result is an alternative lifestyle that does not mirror the lifestyle of Jesus Christ. Said another way, the result of an obsession with self is a great wickedness and a heart whose thoughts are evil all of the time.

Ms Popkin, who told you that you could write? That your "articles" should be posted for all civilization to read? Who in their right mind authorized to post this toxic brew of drab discourse? Please, Ms Popkin, consider professional editing for your articles prior to posting them to the Internet. Lastly, Ms Popkin, who are you to pass judgment on to others? That is not your job, Madam, nor are you remotely qualified to carry our such a responsibility. I formally and publicly disrespect you; just as you formally and publicly disrespected "fat" people.

I refer to my size as a smaller variety of large in that I'm not obese but I'm also not on the lower end of what would be considered an ideal weight for my age and height. I have been fortunate to have never experienced pressure to be stick thin from friends, family, classmates, nor coworkers. If these people, who have known and loved me for all or a good portion my life, can except me as I am then I really don't care what a bunch of strangers may think about how I look. Even at my smallest weight, 140lbs, I couldn't fit into anything smaller than a size 10. It's just a fact of life that some of us are just not built to be a size 2. Get over it, ignore the knuckle heads out there and try to live healthy for your own longevity and happiness; not because someone teased you into thinking your less of a human being.

It seems most people used this as a way to bash obese, or overweight, people. Quite frankly, you just seem obnoxious.

Yes, we 'fat' people should just put down the food and exercise. Yeah, it's not completely America's fault, but none of you seem to know all the facts. You just think it's ALL our fault, and that you're all innocent. Well, bashing 'fat' people like you are doesn't help with self esteem much. If anything, it could offend more that it would do good. You'd just make the person feel worthless and maybe guilt them into exercising for a while, but when nothing good seems to be coming out of it, they just go back to the way they were.

I would like to say that yes, I am overweight. Yes, I do have the power to change it, and I am. However, it's not as easy as you people think. I hardly ever eat out, and when I do, I usually do go for the salad or something not so greasy. I hate mayonnaise, and I know several people, of both sizes, who hate it too. I eat salads at school when I don't like what they're serving, or it's too greasy. I drink water non-stop. I try my best to stay away from sweets, and other fatty foods. I DO exercise. All I get is the same lose a few, gain some more that I did even when I didn't watch what I eat. Yeah, I may be healthier now, but just by making those choices you don't just melt the pounds away. Yeah, I could exercise more, but not with school. And, I would also like to point out, that there is no Gym around where I'm living. The nearest one might be a half hour away, and with gas prices, I'll just stick to my home exercising ways. Not everyone lathers on condiments like you think. I rarely ever use ranch dressing, too. And when I have my salads, I put only a little bit on. Enough to get a little taste through the whole thing.

Each person is different. I got this way from childhood. Everyone picked on me because I was 'fat', when actually I'm just naturally bigger set. I could never fit into anything below and 8, or maybe even an 8, even if I did lose the weight I wanted. That's the way my body is. When I was younger like that, I didn't know the difference. I just turned into one of those people who eat for comfort. I was too young then to understand to not listen to them and go about my day. Now that I do know to ignore them, and just be myself, no matter what I do this fat sticks like glue. I have self esteem, and confidence, and we all have our days when they're low. But when you're the person who's always single because you're not the right size, or people don't act the same to you as they would a skinnier person, your self esteem does take a blow. It may not be the media's fault, but you, the every day citizens, don't help a single bit.

Fat people ??? love food more than their looks. Extreme ???alcoholics??? ??? love booze more than their social relationships; ditto ???drug addicts.??? Gamblers ??? love the thrill and their ???dream??? more than their wallets. ???Sex addicts??? ??? love??? Jeez??? me too. ???Career-criminals??? don???t want to work for a pathetic pay-check, after getting used to higher rewards or prospects thereof.

Are they all sick, need ???intervention??? and ???medical treatment???? How about insurance coverage for the ???rehabs???? What about ???disability benefits????

Whatever it is ??? it is our fundamental right to choose what lifestyle we wish to have. We cannot ???fix??? people. And let them live as long as they let other people live, too. Yes, your very own daughter can CHOOSE to become a drug addict. Not your fault ??? relax. Just let her know what you think of her and keep living your own life ??? it???s short. Her choices are HER choices. Not yours. She could have grown to become a slut just as well??? So? Her choice.

But I would definitely charge people with BMI-above-certain-cap an extra in medical insurance premiums, as they often do with smokers. I smoke. I???m willing to pay. And yes, at some points in my life I paid money for sex. Thank you all, the mothers of sluts. Hope my daughter won???t be a slut, though. Hey! I even don???t have a daughter yet! I have a boy. If he chooses to be ??? whatever??? I will grow to accept it and live with that. It???s MY life.

If you don't like your body size, go and fix it. It is no one elses fault you look the way you do. You can't expect everyone to go out of their way to pander to your lack of self control and excessive self pitty. I think I look way too good, but I don't expect everyone to make every picture, model, or form of entertainment catch up, and you shouldn't expect to be able to do the opposite. Skip McDonalds, and go to the gym. Skip the fries, and have a salad. Something other than make me hear you whine about how you have never chose to do the right thing, and are suffering from the consequences. Duh, you feel fat: you are. You eat mayonaise and ranch dip on everything, you have lunch at fast food grease shops everyday, and you haven't had a glass of water since 1994. How do you think your suppost to feel?

Aaron Lazy is spelled with a Z. the first sense is spelled correctly but the one in the second posting is not. and healthy has an H. There is more to life than calling others fat, lazy etc etc

I think sympathy is best found in the Dictionary between S&^% and Syphiliis. Get up out of the chair and be responsible for being your own person. It is sickening to listen to people whine about how the the world made them the way they are and the way we as americans pander to that crap. You dont need a goverment program or a therapist. Need to put down the remote and the jelly doughnuts, grab a slice of self esteem and quit waiting for a hand out, a pill, surgery or the winning lotto ticket to fix your pathetic life.

I think that the games can contain a false sense of being. But that is no reason to get offended because you are to lasy to be a healthier person.

Okay. You seem to base your argument on a false-hood predicated on the Matrix of all things.. You couldn't look like ANYONE in the Matrix -- you looked like your real self only in clothing of your choosing.

Next time, please use a better analogy to explain your view and get your facts straight.
