Probably the best solution to the problem of the disaster of the past eight years of Republican ownership of our national government does not include what Mr. Mc Cain tacitly admits will be his policy, a Republican president vetoing bills passed by a democratic congress. The best solution to clean up the mess that he blatantly admits that his party has made is to elect a democratic president to go with the democratic congress which will grow in number this November. The Republicans can rebuild as an opposition party, not a governing party given "another chance, coach, just one more chance". Then, as an opposition party, not a ruling party, they can try to regain any character that they might have possessed in the remote past of our history. It was a nice gesture to try to freshen up the ticket with an eloquent lady from afar, but adding soap opera to such a failure of a political party as presently exists just doesn't cut the mustard. Too little, too late. And, one could add that this fine lady might not have earned her right to discredit Mr. Obama so severely, having just t arrived at the scene of the wreck of her own party without having paid her dues, or having earned any credentials whatsoever in the most thorough presidential primaries of our history. We have not had the privilege of hearing her answer one probing question from our press, right or left. Along with this disadvantage to voters of all hues, there is a definite effort being made to hide her from any duty at all to answer to anyone about what she thinks outside of only one speech written by others.

      olderwiser -

Sarah Palin's first speech did definitely knock Obama "for a loop"!

Now he's wimpering for his female supporters to protect him.

What a pathetic sight - a supposedly grown man hiding behind womens" skirts.

Just wait until she levels another blast at that empty suit!

Yep, that's Mccain. You hit it right on the first page. All bark and no bite. That may be the same for Palin as well. Yeah, she may talk pretty well, even if there were some factcheck.org mistakes that republicans constantly keep repeating(which is lies), but she has a lot of issues and if you really want to get to know her you should look up her information and credentials online. I'm sure if you researched her, you would find many major disconcerting flaws. Palin being a hard core Republican in a state with only 9,000 people who run off oil as it's being exploited all over the state, I'm sure you could find a couple, if not a truckload.

McSame and Painlin the Clown will only be good for corporate fascist types who don't really believe in democracy only in corporate greed and domination of the American people. Repugs only support the social programs that benefit corporate America and you are all about cynicism, criticism and culture warring. you have no substance and don't have a clue as to what is ailing our great country America and its people. you use fear and division to win elections and solve no problems only create new ones. you force Middle Class Americans to foot the bill for your mistakes, lies and your corporate greed with the lives of our bravest Americans and the depleting of our Treasury. you are so afraid of change that there aren't enough Diapers on this planet to even Delay your swill from leaking out from where you speak while you eject your rhetorical circus of superficialness and idiosyncraticity.

Nice green backdrop though! What school was that?

    ABOUT SARAH PALIN:

If you really want to know Sarah Palin's history (in detail) this is a "must read". It was written by Anne Kilkenny, a resident of Wasilla, Alaska.

      Ranger -

      And Anne Kilkenny's credibility is ... ?

It appears as though she's a democrat, possibly unemployed, gossip writer.

Wow, how revealing - what an authority!

Gee, Sarah Palin's sure got the obamabots scraping the bottom of the bucket for criticism of the very capable Republican VP candidate. How revealing!

I have a real hard time with accepting any dishonesty as it simply destroys everything. There is no way a productive society can be built on accepting dishonesty and when it is accepted, the results are a constantly deteriorating status where those that have just keep improving their status and those that don???t have just keep losing ??? until it all falls apart. Dishonesty not only includes lying to others, in fact what is simply worst is lying to oneself. That occurs when not wanting to recognize the truth in order to just rationalize what benefits oneself and it is literally the worst kind of dishonesty. Take the current political situation. To avoid dealing with the truth and with the issues the Republican Party now declares that it ???isn???t about the issues, it is about the personalities???. If that isn???t a veiled effort to disguise their failure in the past and their lack of having a real plan to change things for the future, I don???t know what is. It is simply an attempt to distract yet even when considered, even then the Democrats would win as Obama???s sincerity beats McCain???s subservience and Biden???s capabilities far exceed Palin???s limit as just an ???attack dog???. The truth is that even the Republican nominee John McCain declares that, under the Republicans, the last eight years have been a miserable failure, they have lost the trust of the people and yet he still offers no specific solutions and has literally demonstrated no efforts over the past eight years to correct the problems. Today he claims only that change is necessary, literally copying Obama, and that he and his ???pit bull with lipstick??? will accomplish, somehow as yet to be defined, those changes. Obviously people???s attachment to and acceptance of those presentations is strictly emotional and not logical but that is the problem. Unless the voters are willing to accept that their current allegiances may be wrong and detrimental to the overall goal, we could literally have more of the same. Imagine having a President John McCain who is again subservient to the (pseudo) conservative leaders he has been trying hard to patronize all along and also the aggressive inexperienced ???pit bull with lipstick??? as Vice President trying to solve our problems for all Americans and to perform diplomacy across the whole world. A really scary image at best.

I am very concerned about a candidate who advocates teaching creationism in our schools. She seems to forget separation of church and state. Our children need stronger science and math education, not a reason to avoid these harder subjects, or the confusion that might come about in being told in school that evolution is just a theory.

    • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/05/2008 2:33:07 AM

How about Palin standing up at her church and telling the congregation that God wants Americans to be fighting in Iraq? Yikes.

    Holyroller.

You sound like a KKK member...... You most be part of the "change" McCain is talking about. As in we are changing the party by running the hell away from the likes of you.

Maibe you are not getting it my friend, but when McCain talks about "changing " your party, what he is saying is that he wants to run the hell away of the like of you. The partisanship, the free insults, the non-compromising stand, the implied racism are the dead bed of your party.

In the end what your convention boils down is to present a bunch of old white guys that have supported, and still support 8 years of a Republican Administration 100% of the time as an agent of "change" . If he can some how get voters to believe that kind of BS then God help us as Americans because we have lost our toch with reality right at the time when History demands we pay attention.
As for the compromises McCain will have to make in his "reach across the party lines speach
here's one compromise you can take to the bank because is coming. No more 1 trillion Dollars spent on idiotic wars with countries that had nothing to do with 9-11...... If you feel you can bend over and take it, then you are ready to "change" your party.... If not then just put your hood back on and grab the gasoline.

What will be the result??? We will see. It sure didn't get squashed. If Hussein can provide untampered REAL documentation...he will be fine. If not???.....then bye-bye Barry.

As for Rezko...it has been obvious since the beginning of the trial...Hussein is a target. Fitzgerald wants a mohammed Senator's head on his mantle. Good buddy Tony is going to hand it to him...in exchange for a Witness Protection deal.

  • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/05/2008 4:50:37 PM

Over the last eight years I have, and never before, become very concerned and emotional about politics. Much of the reason for that is that I simply hate dishonesty and our political culture has literally deteriorated to where dishonesty can be a whole party???s standard operating procedure. I hate dishonesty because it is simply impossible to deal with. Anyone trying to respond to dishonesty with honesty is at a distinct disadvantage in their having a conscience and trying to be accurate and fair when confronted with someone who has no conscience or limit, rather only a drive to say/do whatever they think will get them what they want. We have seen it in play in 2000, again in 2004 and again now (even here in the postings). I don???t care about Republican v Democrat and I think conservative v liberal has just become something to hide behind; I assure you ???conservative??? does not bring the image today of small government, being financially responsible, doing only for the people what they can???t do for themselves and who conscientiously monitor the market place for the benefit of all Americans, as it did 20 or more years ago. John Kerry found out how trying to ignore the dishonesty can leave you unfairly labeled and disadvantaged, so that is really not a good option. The real problem is obvious and it is that the people, the voters are not cynical enough to question all that is offered and not sensitive enough to identify real motivations but rather allow themselves to be swayed instead of staying rational and objective. When candidates are overly aggressive and slanderous, avoiding the issues and not stating their own positions, it should make people cautious but today people tend to be drawn in and become attached. The apparent short fall is that people don???t seem to check their own emotional attachments, biases and prejudices and then are easily manipulated, failing to stay rational and objective in their discernment. You see the manipulation going on in the candidates campaigning, in their speeches, in the slander offered, in 3rd parties support, both overt and covert, and even in the postings offered here, even to the frequent highly questionable references offered to support their positions. We got it wrong in 2000 and in 2004 and as even John McCain has boldly declared, the last eight years have been a miserable failure, we can???t have more of the same and we desperately need change. It is literally up to us the people, the voters to get it right, to recognize the efforts being made to manipulate us, attempts to appeal to our emotions rather than dealing specifically with the issues, with dishonesty and aggressiveness in attacking the opponent or in giving credit to themselves, and in that recognition we then need to refuse to be used and instead stay rational and objective to make our own decision. Let???s get it right this time!

Sen. McCain has broken the pledge "Code of Silence," and therefore would pay the ultimate price at the elections. "Thou shall not condemn nor expose the Republican Party publicly??? no matter what. United we stand with shoulder to shoulder, side by side publicly with our President. Decided we vote and support our Presidents' most policies, 90 percent all of the time. Therefore, divided and separated and proclaim to restore the party policies, you fall.

Senator Obama again suggested today a way for Americans to avoid clinging to religion. He said: "Karl Marx said that religion is the opium of the masses..........so instead to clinging to religion why don't you try the real thing. Stop clinging to religion and start using some heroin. The disastrous foreign policy of the Bush adminsitration have led the collapse of the opium market and there has never been a better time for Americans to try heroin. Make sure you buy enought to last you through Election Day. "

Sarah Palin - Summary of Reasons Why Democrats Are Cowering

Sarah Palin appears to have diligently studied and worked to graduate from university, whereas Obama prompts one to wonder whether affirmative action was the major factor that enabled him to receive a degree.

Sarah Palin???s popularity and support is based on her ability and accomplishments, whereas Obama???s is based primarily on the fact that he is partially black.

Sarah Palin demonstrates that she is one of the people, whereas Obama portrays himself as an elitist.

Sarah Palin can deliver a specific, focused, energetic, and rousing speech without the aid of a teleprompter, unlike Obama who incompetently relies on speaking the pathetic foreign language of ???uhs and ahs???.

And John McCain, the elderly Senator who is often denigrated by democrats due to his age, has demonstrated that his mind is still keen enough to outfox his opposition by the excellent selection of Sarah Palin to be his VP candidate!

Like I said hollyroller. You just made my case. You do sound like a KKK member in your answer. Hey!! If you don't lie "Hussein" fine with me. Just don't pretend that your party is "changing" anithing with representatives like you.

If you are so proud to be Republicans pal, how come not one of the main characters in the Bush administration showed up at your convention? Where were Cheney, and W Bush, and Rice, and Rummy???
Hey !! If you want change you can start by telling us how much you hate them, and waht a bunch of crooks they are........ Now that would be real change!!!!! Show us how you want to change by supporting the current administration 100% of the time.... Please I want to have that one explained to me!!!

So how about it roller? Care to tell us about Dick "the crook" Cheney deals with Halliburton in Iraq? Or how your party has us in a hole with the Economy after spending almost a trillion Dollars while at the same time lowering taxes for the rich. You guys find it OK to send 10 billion Dollars a month to a country that has 90 billion in reserves (Iraq) while our economy goes down the tubes???

Why don't you coment about that? Why don't you ask us who is paying for the trillion Dollars of IOU's we owe the Chinese, and Russians, and even the Mexicans to pay for your little war so that you guys can act patriotic without the pain . Is a good thing Palin is against abortion because we are going to need a bunch of new taxpayers in the future to pay for what you guys forgot had to pay.

It's very sad that all the liberal posters criticize McCain for his lack of oratory skills. Yes, Obama has him beat hands down when it comes to reading a teleprompter but what exactly has Obama done in his life to merit the Presidency? McCain has worked with Kennedy on immigration, on campaign finance reform with another Democrat, and has helped passed legislation for workers, healthcare, the economy, and has an environmental policy even Al Gore praised.

When you strip away the rhetoric and the flowing words delivered eloquently, Obama is an empty suit. The Democratic party had a candidate of substance in Hillary Clinton but people of color voted only for a candidate only because of his color and she lost a close campaign. Obama had to choose a running mate with thirty six years in the Senate in order to inflate his totally empty record.

It's nice to say, in inspiring words, all the things you're going to do for our country but it's nicer still to vote for someone who has actually done something and has a track record to prove it. McCain may be a dull speaker but he is legions ahead of Obama in the experience necessary to run our country. The Presidency is not the place for on the job training.

Mr. Obama said: "How dare Mr. McCain imply, by speaking about his SCARS, that I have not also suffered........How dare he?......I too have my own SCARS." And with that, Mr. Obama offered to allow reporters to look up his nose. "Look at these SCARS" he exclaimed. And indeed, one could easily discern a highly scarred and nearly perforated
nasal septum, the result of snorting cocaine. "Look at these SCARS" Several reporters were brought to tears. Others wanted to know if it hurt.

Is Rezko working with the feds?
SOURCES: | He's been back at courthouse numerous times

August 28, 2008 Chicago Sun Times

"As his sentencing nears, pressure is mounting on Tony Rezko to cooperate with federal investigations into some of the highest-profile politicians in the state -- including Gov. Blagojevich.

Two more trials -- one in Chicago next spring, one in Las Vegas -- hover over the Wilmette businessman and onetime prolific political fund-raiser for the governor and BARACK OBAMA.

Tony Rezko was inside the federal courthouse as recently as Aug. 14, sources for the Sun Times say.

Now, sources tell the Chicago Sun-Times that Rezko has been seen at the federal courthouse as many as a dozen times since his June conviction. He's been held since then at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago.

Rezko hasn't had to be back in court since a jury convicted him of corruption charges involving state deals. And his scheduled Sept. 3 sentencing was recently pushed back to Oct. 28".....ONE WEEK BEFORE ELECTION....hmmm...just a coincidence???

Remember, these "old" people make up a good portion of the population, and more of them are voters. I'm middle aged, and I have a great respect for my elders and their experience-based wisdom. History repeats itself, as is evidenced by Obama's "old" 1960's style Marxist propaganda.
...the oil companies are victimizing you
...the pharmaceutical companies are victimizing you
      ...the republicans are victimizing you
      ...the government is failing you
      ...the rich are victimizing you
      ...you are helpless
      ...you are all victims
...so let's grow the government, so it can cost you more and continue to fail you, because socialism doesn't work, but it does take liberty away from the citizens and concentrate power in the hands of the leadership.

Face it, McCain is too old.

Reagan in his 70s suffered from Alzheimer's and didn't know which end was up. Couldn't remember a damn thing about Iran Contra, etc.

Nancy regularly consulted an astrologer to tell Ronnie what days he should zig or zag.

Thank Mikhail Gorbachev for the changes in the Soviet Union, not Ronald Reagan.

You don't remember any of that because it isn't correct. Please, show us some facts where Reagan had behaved as you said he did.

And Gorbachev did everything on his own without Reagan's initiative? LOL!

Ollie North was before Congress. Geo Herbert Walker Bush said he was kept 'out of the loop'.

Ronald Reagan pleaded 'can't remember.' It was later revealed that Reagan was suffering from Alzheimer's, which doesn't happen overnight and explained his diminished memory.

Nancy's heavy reliance on astrology charts was well reported.

              • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/05/2008 2:03:55 AM

Ronald Reagan thundering, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall' was pure theatre.

This was after Mikhail Gorbachev made it clear that he wanted social reform in the Soviet Union - 'perestroika.'

Gorbachev was a different kind of Russian, a decent man, and Reagan and Thatcher were able to work with him but never were they giving Gorbachev his 'marching orders.'

Wasn't Mikhail Gorbachev awarded the Nobel Peace Prize?

Palin's speech was gratuitously rude to Sen. Obama. Palin preaches family values but the Obamas live them.

Awesome in a FOX news/Hanity kind of way? Since it lacked much of any truth at all, lacked any demonstration of knowlege on anything other than Republican talking points? She apparently knows that years ago McCain was a POW, she's full of bluster about "Hockey Moms" comparing them to "pitbulls with lipstick", and she showed a profound disrespect for anyone who doesn't value the Republican party over truth and honesty; especially Obama. I found little in the way of substance.
