Can anyone tell me what will the Republicans do for me here at home in their "country" besides fight wars. I would love to know how much money Cheney and Bush have made off of this war. We know Iraq has 80 billion dollars; I have to believe someone in the USA have profited from this war based on a lie.

The truth is they will overturn every right women have fought for if McCain/Palin gets in the White House. Roe V Wade will be thrown out. Talking about double standards Palin is a religious fanatic. McCain is more liberal but he is so bowled over by this woman it is clear she stimulates certain body parts he thought no longer worked, so he will go along with the flow. Can you imagine laws enacted that forces a woman to carry a child even during rape or incest? This arm of the Republican Party will take over. Yes they will protect the unborn but will not hesitate to wage war and cut down the grown while carrying the cross and calling on the Lord.

Roe v Wade, since you brought it up. Let's talk about it. Overturning the verdict would bring the issue back to the individual states. IF that would ever happen, what is wrong with that? Why can't the state government, that you live in, make those important decisions. In my opinion, it is not the governments problem to force people to support something they believe to be fundamentally wrong.

Individual civil rights are not in the care and control of religious zealots because we have separation of church and state.

WHY DO THE LIBERAL LEANING "JOURNALISTS" HAVE TO TELL US WHAT THE REPUBLICANS SPEECHES SAID? WHY NOT SIMPLY PRINT THE SPEECH? I AM INTELLIGENT ENOUGH TO READ AND MAKE MY OWN CONCLUSIONS ABOUT WHAT IS SAID. THE LIBERAL MEDIA IS CONSTANTLY SLANTING WHAT IS BEING SAID AT THE RNC TO TRY AND INFLUENCE HOW WE THINK. TRUE JOURNALISM IS DEAD ON NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN (NEVER HAD IT ANYWAY) MSNBC, ETC.

    • Posted By: raddave @ 09/03/2008 10:53:01 AM

Because it is their job to report, not copy and paste speeches. Especially in an artilcle, such as this, that are a critique of the speeches. Since you probably watch Fox News (because you didn't mention them), you have no idea what true journalism is. If you want to hear the speech tune in on TV, if you want to read the speach, there are websites that post the transcripts of the speeches,.

John Kerry fought for his country but never bragged: "I know how to win wars." How could he? Vietnam was a boondoggle, not a win. .McCain didn't win in Vietnam either. Nor did 58,000 dead Americans or thousands of Vietnam veterans who came home and were never able to put their lives back together.
And the reason for going into Vietnam was what?

Republicans and Karl Rove demeaned John Kerry's war service with their 'swift boat' propaganda.
Thank them for Geo. W. winning his second term as president.

Now McCain and Republicans are 'distancing' themselves from Geo. W. For good measure 'war hero' McCain, is selling fear and paranoia. Who's buying it?

Gas is unaffordable and the Middle East is a disaster. And she wants to give us a George Bush-style speech--all smugness and no substance? This country is in trouble and the Republicans don't seem to get it.

I feel strongly about Obama running this country. I have been keeping track of this election from the word go. I am a African American female and I would never in my wildest dreams want John McCain and Sarah Palin in the White House. I think the Republican party is full of crap. This country is ready for change and the sooner people wake up and realize that John McCain is old and not it. Obama is a strong leader that will lead this country back to victory. Go Democrats!!!!! Obama for President.

Tax break for 95% of people who makes under $250,000. Universal Health Care. End the War in Iraq. Secure all of the loose nukes. Have you been listening? Might want to replace the battery on that hearing aid.

        • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/03/2008 10:39:08 AM

Ageism, assumes the only supporters of McCain are old.

How will Obama pay the bills if he cuts taxes? How will he pay for Universal Health Care? The money has to come from somewhere, and if you don't think it will be coming out of your pocket one way or another then you live in dreamland.

As for getting out of Iraq, here are a couple of Obama quotes for you:

"We need to focus our attention on how to reduce the U.S. military footprint in Iraq. Notice I say 'reduce' and not 'fully withdraw.'" Barack Obama, Nov. 22, 2005

"I believe that we should have all our troops out [of Iraq] by 2013 but I don???t want to make promises." Barack Obama, Sep. 26, 2007

How will Sen. Obama pay the bills if he cuts taxes? Try $10 billion a month for bills instead of the war in Iraq.

If a war is worth fighting then get in, fight and get out. McCain's ('Maybe 100 years") gives credence to his admission that the economy is not his strong subject.

        • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/03/2008 11:45:17 AM

I don't know why you would trust Obama to come through with that $$ for you. Obama has lambasted lobbyists and moneyed interests who "have turned our government into a game only they can afford to play."

"It's an entire culture in Washington -- some of it legal, some of it not," the Democratic hopeful told a New York crowd in June. But last year Obama introduced nine separate bills exempting foreign chemical company Nufarm from import fees on a range of chemical ingredients it uses in the manufacture of pesticides and herbicides.

Nufarm wasn't the only beneficiary of Obama's efforts to reduce customs fees and duties. In early May of 2006, two Washington lobbyists registered to work on behalf of Astellas Pharma, a Japanese-owned drug company which also has offices in Illinois.

Together, Obama's obscure measures -- known as tariff suspensions -- steered more than $12 million away from federal coffers, according to government estimates.

While legal, Obama's bills on behalf of Nufarm and other companies are part of the special treatment machine Washington rolls out for special interests, say good-government watchdogs. With a dozen tariff suspension bills to his name, Obama stands out as the most prolific of any presidential hopeful on the topic. Sen. John McCain introduced none.

"If you have a company...there's a whole factory set up to help you get these suspensions," said Steve Ellis, president of the Washington, D.C.-based watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense. "It's a pay-to-play system you have to rev up and work." Hire the right lobbyist, pay the right fee, and you can save millions, he explained.

Some say the tariff suspension process isn't how Washington should operate.

In his speeches, Sen. Obama seems to agree: "We need a president who sees government not as a tool to enrich well-connected friends and high-priced lobbyists, but as the defender of fairness and opportunity for every American," the candidate said in his June speech. "That's the kind of president I intend to be."

But his actions speak louder than his words.

Junker defended tariff suspensions as good for American businesses. "It's nothing to be embarrassed, ashamed or suspicious of," he said.

justifying the breaks for Nufarm to import a chemical known as 2,4 D and other ingredients by claiming they would "eliminate these unnecessary and avoidable...costs to [Nufarm's] consumers."

But the company's financial reports, issued just two months after Obama introduced Nufarm's numerous tariff-lifting bills, indicate Nurarm was making more money than ever before in North America because it had increased its prices on its U.S. and Canadian customers, predominantly farmers, in particular on "phenoxy herbicides," a family which includes 2,4 D.

Economics aside, some medical researchers have purported to find a link between high exposure to the chemical and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a

except that the tax increases he proposes for businesses get pased on to consumers. Loose nukes. There are already international efforts addressing that issue. What about rogue nations developing nuke weapons (Iran, N. Korea). Where has universal healthcare worked? It sure has created problems in every country I have read about when researching it...doctor shortages, long waiting lists to see specialists, waiting in ambulances instead of in an emergency room because of the inability to meet government mandated treatment times. Obama has raised taxes on families earning 40k a year. The iraq war is already winding down. The Iraqis are taking security back over little by little, and an agreement has been signed with the Iraqi government to bring US troops back home by as the security situation continues to improve. Then what happens when there is a democratically elected and functional government in Iraq? I guess it might have been worth it afterall if 25 million people get to experience a little bit of the freedom we have here in America.

Obama isn't going to somehow bring a utopian paradise to the US.

And the personal attack (hearing aid comment) is just typical of what I have come to expect on this liberal blog.

And just exactly are you going to pay for all of this? Obama has not stated hoe he plans on doing this. The cost of universal health care would dwarf the costs of the Iraq war. The "tax breaks" do not target business (just the opposite). If you tax businesss more they will just outsource and raise prices (so where is the net tax break? There isn't one)) You also need to go to factcheck to verify your grovel.

How well a man/woman speaks show their intellect. In one corner, you have Lincoln, TR, FDR,Kennedy and add Obama to that list. On the incomprehensible side, you've got George W. Bush. Any more questions?

        • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/03/2008 11:05:32 AM

How well a person speaks indicates their stage presence, not their intellect, especially when their speech is never impromptu and is teleprompter assisted.

It took Obama a long time to come up with a position on Russia's incursion into Georgia -- can we afford that in the white house?

      • Posted By: GD38 @ 09/03/2008 9:58:47 AM

The Presidency is about making decisions, final decisions based on your ability to LISTEN to the experts around you. Mavericks do not listen hence the meaning of the word. Concise communication and polished oratory make a good leader. Does Obama come off as a hot head? Someone who will rush into things without the welfare of the country in consideration? No way. And he will not be a party pleaser which is a huge GOP shortcoming. McCain should have stuck to his original independent self and his party should have had more faith in him. Now he is in this no win situation of trying to please everyone. I like McCain the man (if not the politician) but Obama is getting my vote.

        • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/03/2008 10:33:58 AM

Wrong, mavericks listen and make up their own minds instead of adhering blindly to the party position. That is where the potential for real change exists.

Obama has only voted against the democrats when a vote rewarded one of his financial backers, a pay-to-play pattern he learned in Chicago. That is what explains his vote on FISA, because it gave Obama's big $$$ communications special interests retroactive immunity for violating their customers' civil and Constitutional rights.

So much for his being a "civil rights" lawyer. I wouldn't want him protecting my civil rights.

"The natural human response to a mother in Sarah Palin's circumstance is compassion and sympathy" would be true if Sarah Palin was an ordinary citizen but she is not. She proposes to enact laws imposing her will and judgement over those of other people found in the same circumstance as her daughter. This opens the door to others questioning her decisions just as she has questioned other.

    • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/03/2008 5:46:18 PM

Palin has the gall to say that women impregnated through incest or rape should not be allowed to terminate the pregnancy.

No US Supreme Court or US Congress will ever agree to such craziness.
      .
Her 17 yr old daughter has sucked the oxygen right out of Palin's 'holier than thou' preaching.
If Palin were tuned in to her daughter's emotional needs instead of telling everyone else how to live her kid might not be five months pregnant.

The father of the baby is 18 years old. He described himself on his web page as a 'f----in redneck' who will 'kick ass' and 'lives to play hockey and hang out with the guys.' As if anyone with a brain would be surprised, he said, "I don't want kids."

Never mind what he wants, Mama Palin wants her daughter to marry him. Her judgment stinks because this 'shotgun' marriage is doomed to fail..

Sen. & Mrs. Obama have family values that we can believe in.

      • Posted By: fishergran @ 09/03/2008 8:44:40 PM

        Elizabeth,
I agree with you about this issue of this teenager's pregnancy. What mother wants her 17 years old to marry a "boy" who obviously is too immature to fully understand the responsibilities of parenting. Will this baby be stuck in a disfunctional family where the father would rather play hockey than play with his son or daughter? Will this young mother understand that her responsibilities to a baby extends for many years into the future and will fundamentally change her life? Will these two young people continue their education? How will they support a child without an education? Perhaps Mrs. Palin believes it really doesn't matter what kind of life this child has except that it is born, not aborted. These kinds of family values are no family values at all. I prefer my 4 granddaughters have information about birth control, use protection is they are sexually active, finish their college educations and become mature enough to understand the consequences of having a child before they take on that responsibility. Those are my family values.
I have no idea how the Obama children will turn out in 10 years but at least they will have a proper education about essential life realities such as sex education and perhaps they will avoid being in the position of Bristol Palin. At least I hope so.

Waldman writes: "After bragging about her own ethics bill in Alaska, she zinged Obama by noting that he had written two memoirs but no major legislation, ignoring his coauthorship of the federal ethics bill."

Erm, Obama co-sponsored the Lobbying and Ethics Reform Act of 2007, not co-authored it. He did manage to get a single amendment added to S. 1, a major ethics reform bill, but this hardly counts as "coauthorship." In addition, to date, no specific bill with Obama as its primary sponsor (author) has passed the Senate. He has passed a number of nice resolutions and gotten a few other amendments added. Waldman gets it wrong here.

Also, since it's at the top of the list, HarleyisHere not only asks a false question (the usual slippery reference to "equal pay" and the ridiculous charge of not letting a woman defend herself (?)) but adds the quaint "repigs" to the conversation. Barry would be so disappointed in you, Harley.

The line from Thompson that garnered the biggest response was "we need a president who doesn't think that the protection of the unborn or a newly born baby is above his pay grade." When he made the original remark to pastor Rick Warren, Obama meant that only someone at God's pay grade--i.e., God--knows when life begins. Who else is above the President?

Should we conclude that Thompson and the audience didn't comprehend what Obama said...or do they think McCain would be at or above God's pay grade?

    • Posted By: loriw @ 09/03/2008 5:47:16 AM

No, we should conclude that Obama thinks it is above his pay grade to determine when life begins but Obama does NOT think it is above his pay grade to determine when a BORN ALIVE baby should die.
See Obama feels that it is "too burdensome" (Obama's own words) to require an abortionist to call another doctor to care for an infant that is born alive following a "botched" abortion. See with Obama's position the BABY is left to DIE. In my opinion that is INFANTICIDE, because if a woman gave birth to a live baby and left it to die she would be charged with MURDER. But Obama says that if an abortionist does this it is OK. Read up on this by searching Jill Staneck and Obama's voting record and testimony on the Born Alive Infant's Protection Act.

That's right genious keep littering an already overpopulate over taxed earth with more children who won't have healthcare, won't receive and adequate education and won't do anything to positively contribute to the country except to be a further drain on totally broken social programs of which we have no money to fun even if they did work because we now owe CHINA over 600 billion dollars for a war against a nation that never attacked us. Oh yes going to war and killing Iraqi children is fine but God forbid we trust American with the choice to do the right thing. Pathetic.

Yes, what he really said was, "I refuse to answer the question for fear that it might alienate some potential voters."

At least, that's how I interpreted his cliche response.

Would someone be willing to confirm the information that I have seen that the brother in law / state trooper used his TASER gun on his TEN year old step son? If I were Palin I would want this dealt with also. Seems the State Police didn't deal with it appropriately since I think this trooper with a really bad case of really bad judgement still has his job!

    • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 09/03/2008 8:42:49 AM

IT IS TRUE HE HAS ADMITTED TO USING THE TAZER ON THE TEN YEAR OLD BUT CLAIMS THAT THE TEN YEAR OLD REQUESTED IT TO SEE WHAT IT FELT LIKE ! VERY POOR EXCUSE IF ITS TRUE BECAUSE TAZERS CAN LEAD TO HEART PROBLEMS (MAINLY TACYCARDIA WHICH CAN BE FATAL ! ) BUT HE DID ADMITT TO ITS USE ON THE BOY HE ALSO IS ACUSSED OF MAKING DEATH THREATS TO PALINS SISTER AND MOTHER THATS WHY SHE MADE A INQUIRY ABOUT HIM BEING STILL ON THE POLICE FORCE AND HAD A PROTECTIVE ORDER PUT ON HIM NOT TO WORRY ABOUT THE INVESTIGATION ON HER SHE WILL BE REDEEMED! SHE WILL BE CLEAR OF ALL THE CHARGES BY THE OCT2 DEBATE W/BIDEN TOP LAWYERS WERE HIRED TO DEFEND HER AND IF THEY CAN GET O.J. OFF FOR MURDER THEN THIS WILL BE A CAKE WALK !!

It wasn't the lawyers who 'got OJ off for murder,' it was the jury.

Democrats talk at the Denver convention about creating and keeping American jobs. Ironically the building that housed the largest research and development division of Arco Oil Company in Texas was sold by British Petroleum to Perot Systems and now serves as its headquarters. Perot Systems was founded by Ross Perot who previously created EDS Electronic Data Systems and who most importantly has been credited with throwing the 1992 Presidential election to Bill Clinton by drawing off many independent voters who would have voted Republican for George Bush senior. Perot Systems derives a significant amount of its business from state and federal contracts. A building that used to house American engineers, geologists, scientists, logistics people and ordinary employees who worked for an American owned oil company that strived to fill the gas tank for the average American now houses a company that focuses on giving computer support on state and the federal government social service contracts. This is the Democratic Party version of a success story. Outsourced government work under Bill Clinton replaces a former American owned world admired jewell of the oil industry that had provided gas for the American gas tank and many good American jobs for many years. So if you need reasonably price gas for your car, contact Bill Clinton and Perot Systems and ask them to give you a gallon of gas. This is the Democratic version of a success story, outsourced government work replacing a real American owned company that produced a real needed product at a reasonable price for the average American household.

Eight years of Republican fat cats getting rich on the suffering of American workers, yet it's all Clinton and Perot's fault. What a joke. Clinton was eight years ago. Eight solid years of economic growth. Now we've had eight solid years of Republican greed tearing this country apart.

      • Posted By: Texas-conservative @ 09/03/2008 9:23:12 AM

I frequently read and hear people claim that since the republicans have been in power the rich "fat cats" get richer, but can you provide any evidence that this is true, or is this just Marxist propaganda that is being regurgitated because the democrat leadership says it is so?

I would suggest that no matter who is in power, someone is getting richer, and someone else is getting poorer. Income isnot a constant.

And since when has been earning a paycheck been a crime in this country? Part of the American dream is being able to pursue whatever career you want to, and if you work hard enough, you can become wealthy. You're not barred from wealth. If you don't feel like you have enough wealth, go out and earn it.

Workikng hard and getting rich is fine by me. Getting super rich without working at all is not fine with most fair minded people. There is only so much money to go around.

Sarah Palin - The Reason Why Democrats Are Cowering

Sarah Palin was already in elected office while Obama was merely a community organizer.

Sarah Palin has more executive experience (as a successful business owner, Mayor, and Governor) than both the democrat candidate for President and the one for Vice President.

Sarah Palin has actually served a longer term as a Governor than Obama has served as a Senator who almost immediately upon becoming a senator, decided to run for President.

As a Governor, Sarah Palin has actually set and balanced budgets, whereas Obama and Biden have, as Senators, merely proposed more spending without any concern for how their proposals would bloat the federal budget.

Sarah Palin has actually decided to and achieved a reduction in her Governor???s salary and fringe benefits, whereas Obama merely fixates on his pay grade.

Sarah Palin has actually reduced government spending by selling on eBay the Alaskan Governor???s airplane, thereby returning the money to the citizens, whereas Obama and Biden have merely talked about reducing spending in an unspecified manner.

Sarah Palin has actually opposed her Republican Party by defeating a corrupt incumbent Republican governor, whereas Obama and Biden have never even denounced an unscrupulous democrat, let alone attempted to remove one from office.

Sarah Palin has not resorted to throwing any of her past and current supporters under the bus, whereas Obams has discarded several, including one convicted felon.

Sarah Palin demonstrates a loving respect for and appreciation of her parents, whereas Obama exhibits repulsion toward his promiscuous father who abandoned him, and contempt for his grandmother who he has described as being a typical white woman.

Sarah Palin will be consistent in her statements voiced throughout the many cities and towns in the US, whereas Obama says one thing in Scranton and then the opposite in San Francisco.

Sarah Palin has actually voted in favour of, or against bill propositions, whereas Obama, on 130 occasions, has lamely voted present.

I am an independent voter, I have voted for as many Democrats as I have Republicans in the past. I want to tell you a story about the last time I fell for "the middle class tax cut" offered by a Democratic President back in 1992. I have a wife and a child and in the years past before 1993 I used to get about $400-$600 for my Federal tax refund each year. To give you an example of my income my income for that year was about $16,000 and my wife worked too and she made about $10,000 and we both worked full time. My wife worked at a day care center and took our baby with her to work for a "discount" which wasn't much of a discount at all off of the normal day care rates. So together for a family of 3 we made $26,000. My son was born very sick and had to stay in NICU for over two weeks, he ended up having to have 5 eye surgeries and now he still needs major ankle and foot surgery. All of his bills from the hospital and surgeries amounted to over $50,000 of which I had to pay 20% and any costs that were above what the insurance pays. Needless to say when it came time to file my taxes I desparately needed that $450-600 in tax refund to keep the wolves away from the door. It got so bad leading up to tax time that when my wife and I got paid we would immediately pay the bills due and then would have maybe $30-40 to last us two weeks to the next pay check. That was with WIC and any financial help we could get from the state. When I filed my taxes, our total income hadn't gone up much at all because our raises were about 2-3% for the year. Due to Clinton's "middle class tax cut" he passed do you know what my Federal income tax refund was for that year?? $2-that is TWO DOLLARS!!!!! That is because of the severe marriage penalty and other tax increases that were passed by the Democratic Congress and signed off on by President Clinton. They tax the income of your spouse double the rate than that of the head of house hold. The Democrats reasoning? It encourages mothers to stay home and take care of children. My question to all of the Obama supporters-can you afford to be a single bread winner of your house hold? Can you get along guys or gals on your income alone and let your spouse stay home with your children? I know I can't. Even though my son is now 18 years old he has a diability that doesn't allow him to work and he still needs his surgery. My family needs every dime my wife and I make. The reason why I ask is because Obama has already stated that he intends on letting the Bush tax cuts expire. That amounts to a huge tax increase alone and will reinstate the marriage penalty on all of us who need two incomes to make ends meet. He will let them expire and he will say that he didn't pass a tax increase, he just let the tax cut expire. I have never received a tax cut from a Democrat in my lifetime. YOU CAN'T TAX YOUR WAY OUT OF A ENCONOMIC SLOWDOWN. I can't afford Obama's form of change. I'm sorry, I

McCain voted against raising the minimum wage 19 times and the republican party supports those big corporations that laid you off from your hospital job. You will see a tax break under Obama's plan, not McCains (unless you make $2.8 million dollars a year or more).

      • Posted By: vcchaudhary @ 09/04/2008 6:24:01 PM

Use your common sense. Businesses have two options:
        1) If business is not making money, they lay-off people. If you raise minimum wages businesses will look for the bottom line. Ultimate looser will be the employee.

        2) If businesses (Democrats call rich) are given tax incentives, they would go out and hire more people because they have an option to increase their production/output.

        You decide.

        • Posted By: elizabethpaige @ 09/05/2008 1:33:07 AM

If a business is operating so close to the line that its employees are not being paid a decent living wage. it can close down. It is evil to allow systemic proverty in America's society.

And greedy billionaires,(eg. Waltons who own Walmart) who are cheapskates to their employees deserve a special place in hell.

I'd like to hear what the Republicans are going to do to solve the problems we're having now? Just attacking the other side doesnt do any good, especially when the facts are laid out, and it's revealed that so far, all I've heard from the Republicans is just knocking someone down until they're bloodied.

Also, check to see how Gov Palin has voted for the energy crisis, and environmental issues. Check Youtube for what she wants to do to make cities grow, and the reasoning for brutal wildlife control. I'd LOVE To hear how some Alaskans think of this nomination, and what complications she'll bring to the table. I just hope my children will have some wild nature places to visit, but not with Palin around.

HarleyisHere: no need to be ignorant. vote for who you want to vote for, I'm not bashing you. this is a free country, and an open election, so I am allowed to further my agenda as much as you are ;)

A lot of hot air, but no substances on the meat and p,otatoes issue, (jobs Taxes) energy. Destoration and lies about Obama record and experiences. You would think after 3 days of convention speeches, we would hear how they plan to tackle the economy, or what she stand on obstinance and birth control and early teenage pregnacy. education Is she for or against? If so, what happen at home?

As a first time voter in this election, I have been listening to, and researching both candidates so I can make a right decision come November. Neither candidate has made me fall completely to his side, and I am not sporting an Obama or a McCain bumper sticker on my car. I don't usually like to preach about either candidate because, to be honest, I think both have their flaws and am not completely crazy about either of them. Last night however, unlike many of you it seems, I was definitely impressed with Palin. I thought that her speech did lack enthusiasm, but she stands strong in what she believes in. She spoke with conviction, and seems like she genuinely cares about the good of her country. I was impressed by her statement about helping families with special needs, and really think that she will be a breath of fresh air in Washington. To be honest, I like her more than the man she's running with. I still have quite a bit of deciding to do, but I really respect Sarah Palin, and think that this line made that so...she said something like : "We don't want a man who uses change to better his career, rather a man who uses his career to create change." Damn right.

I would rather be an community organizer knowing that I am helping someone, than being an republican who rob the middle class to profit the rich. Think about your position in life now before you vote. Do you want to be responsible for 4 more years of Bush administration policies. Don't let them fool you. They had 8 years and we don't need to give them another 4.
