Palin's speech was not that good. The commentators make their remarks as not to offend. A majority of her speech was lies and there was no substance. To those of you that say while she was mayor Obama was a community activist need to do some research before you post. He was an activist 20 years ago while she was working on a fishing boat. He was out in the community helping people get back on their feet when she was only concerned about herself. He became a state senator some years later to help impoverished communities throughout the state of Illinois while at the same time she was in Washington (as mayor of Wasilla then later as governor) lobbying for money something she and McCain are supposed to be against. This shows she is nothing but a political opportunist who flip-flops when it is in her best interest just as her running mate has.

You are so right, if any of Hillary's voters cross the line to vote for McShane, "Shame on them for letting him use them. Wake ladies, this country is in tremoil because of the likeness of John McCaine and now his new follower. I just wonder how long will it take for the women who voted for Hillary to really stop and listen at themeselves. Hillary asked the questin during the great DNC, "Where you voting for me, or the troop who lost hope, or the mothers who struggles everyday just to make it." If you vote for this Republican ticket, not only do you dishonor her legacy for the Democrate party, but you'll be selling yourselves to the devel. McCaine has only one thing on his mind "War and plenty of it". You'll should look at the latest talley of jobs lost within the last quarter and the number of people whom has lost those jobs having to have to sign up for unemployment benefits. Soon that will run out too. Don't be taken by trying to make history, records are broken all the time. Besides if God wants a woman to be head over the man, He would have said so.

DEMOCRATIC WOMEN ARE TOO SMART TO VOTE FOR THE REPUBLICAN TICKET JUST BECAUSE PALIN IS A RUNNING MATE. HILLARY SUPPORTERS WERE SUPPORTING HILLARY BECAUSE SHE WAS A FULLY QUALIFIED PERSON TO BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT. WE WILL NOT BE DRAWN INTO THE EMPTY RHETORIC AND ANGER COMING FROM THE REPUBLICANS. THE ATTACK LINES COMING FROM PALIN WERE REALLY CUTE, BUT WHAT ARE HER SOLUTIONS TO FIX THE MANY PROBLEMS FACING THIS COUNTRY?

This "story" is the classic misunderstanding of personal economics, taxes, and health care. First, if he had $50,000 in medical bills and used itemized deductions on his return he would have had a much larger tax refund than prior years. Second, the tax 'refund" is not your taxes, it is what is returned from your withholdings when your tax bill is less than your withholdings, so it does not prove your taxes went up! Finally,

You are so right, Senator Obama and Joe Biden really need to get in office. It saddens me to see and hear all those lies, and insults. Starting with that two faced Lieberman on Tuesday night. All McShane wants to do it "Prey" on these womens who claims to be disappointed that Hillary did not get picked, so he chose a token as second best to none to grab them. If they fall for this, they're not a Democrate and dishonors Hilliary's message at the convention. Come on my lady friends, wake up. McShane will use you and put you to the side and laught at you. Get a grip, the people in this country needs are at stack. If you think you're having a hard time now, Let the Republicans get back in office. All of you who so want to see a woman in the highest office of the land and is willing to trade your beliefs, "Shame on You"

Mr. October, when I said that he had $50,000 in bills that is over a period of a few years, his NICU bill was about $15,000 of that I had to pay my deductible for the year and 20% and any over charges that insurance doesn't pay. He had 5 additional eye surgeries over 4 years, never was it enough for me to itemize and make it worthwhile for me to itemize my deductions. My standard deduction was always slightly more so I had to "eat" the medical costs for each year. It just almost became impossible because I had to make payments on those bills in addition to making rent payments, food and clothes each month. i guess I should have made it clearer because nobody could have 5 eye surgeries in one year. And by the way this is not a "story" this is reality, I know I lived it. My brother is a tax lawyer and he prepared my taxes and he said it doesn't make sense to itemize because unfortunately your medical bills part that I had to pay is not higher than the standard deduction and I will just have to pay it out of my refund. Thank you.

I GUESS THAT SINCE I AM NOT A MEMBER OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, I AM NOT VIEWED BY GOVENOR PALIN AS BEING WORTHY OF LIFE. HER SPEECH WAS ONE OF THE MOST DEVISIVE I HAVE EVER HEARD. HER FAMILY IS CERTAINLY LOVELY, BUT DON'T FORGET HOW BADLY THE REPUBLICAN POLICIES HURT THE MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS; AND SHE MADE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR THAT SHE INTENDS TO CONTINUE AND ENHANCE THOSE DEVASTATING POLICIES. SHE CERTAINLY GAVE THE RIGHT WING BASE THE STUFF THAT THEY HAVE BEEN CRAVING BUT GOD HELP US ALL IF McCAIN/PALIN WIN THIS ELECTION.
CRAVING BUT GOD HELP US ALL IF McCAIN/PALIN WIN THIS ELECTION.

John McCain picked Governor Sarah Palin because he intends to follow through and make his Project Lexington for United States energy independence the dominant issue in this campaign. Governor Sarah Palin is a strong supporter of increased offshore drilling and she knows that Alaska has an offshore coastline greater than the rest of the country combined and is also comes in second among the states in oil production. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and John McCain understand that Obama and the Democrats would never consider government loan guarantees or tax breaks for a sure thing that will produce energy for the American gas tank. In fact Democrats are trying to put together a so-called windfall profits tax which will have the effect of discouraging future investment in the United States oil industry. John McCain also knows that Governor Sarah Palin family situation also illustrates that longterm Democratic leadership hostility and policies toward United States owned energy companies have caused our current energy crisis. Her husband who works for British Petroleum should be working for the former American owned Arco Oil Company. Arco Oil Company developed and explored the Alaska North Slope and formerly owned eighty percent of our proven Alaskan reserves. With its substantial oil reserves Arco Oil Company should have bought British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company during the second Bill Clinton administration. With the right business environment and support from both political parties in the United States, Arco Oil Company might have been more successful and been able to buy out British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company.

Look at Apple Computer and Microsoft. Their success in the computer world have made them bullet proof to corporate takeovers. Longterm Democratic hostility and opposition to offshore drilling and periodic talk of windfall profits taxes contributed to the takeover of Arco Oil Company.

Your logic makes sense on the surface, until you remember the fact that any new drilling won't be viable for at least 10 years, probably 15, and as much as 20. That's not a solution.

Madonna was correct in putting Bush, McCain and others together with Hitler. The "Country First" slogan of the Republican Party sounds like that of Nazis who painted their political opponents not supporting their war-mongering as unpatriotic. MCCain and Palin will make Bush and Chiney look like Mahatma Gandhi. They finish any unfinished tasks of Bush in screwing up the economy, and engage USA in continuous warfare with some nation or the other so that they can keep getting votes pandering to jingoist sentiments of the uneducated masses. That much for country first!

    • Posted By: angecam @ 09/03/2008 2:09:09 PM

you must be part of that uneducated masses listening to Madonna ja ja Oh and of course Obama is such a war hero !!! at least is a FACT that McCain served his country if he wants to use it as a slogan he earned that right!

          Thank you for remembering.

    • Posted By: FREETHINKINGAMERICAN @ 09/04/2008 1:19:53 AM

Indeed. The Republican Party is always crying "patriotism" (if you disagree with us, you're unpatriotic).

Here is what Hermann Goering (Hitler's Propaganda Chief) had to say about leading the people by the nose with the patriotism slogan, and if anyone, he ought to know about it :

Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

And of course, as Samuel Johnson said, "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."
The Republican Party is FILLED with them.

      • Posted By: mholmes @ 09/04/2008 2:36:04 AM

You need to get your history straight - Goering was a WWI ace and later chief of the Luftwaffe. The propoganda minister was Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels. One has to remember that the world wasn't quite as small then, as it is now. There are only a few countries in which these evil men and their system of government could survive today, for example - China, Myanmar (Burma), North Korea and Iran come immediately to mind. Iraq was one such country, until Saddam Hussein was overthrown (we set him up, and we had to take him down). Leave you with a quote from the Father of our country:

Citizens by birth or choice, of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of AMERICAN, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations.

She struck me as an arrogant, cocky and self-righteous Christian Fundamentalist, something the kooks and crooks crowd that rules the Republican party for the last 8 years frequently has put on display. I look forward to the time when she will have to defend her positions on the accumulating debt and death of the last 8 years, being anti-choice, anti-contraception (something that apparently might have helped her 17 yr. old daughter rather than preaching "abstinence") and anti-equal pay for equal work between men and women. I relish the prospect of voters getting to know her position in these important areas rather than her being the PTA president of Wasilla City.

Palin was selected to be an attack dog that they could accuse the Democrates of 'picking on a woman' if they respond in kind. Come on reporter's, you all know she didn't write any of that speech so all it proved was she can read.

  • Posted By: Renata81 @ 09/04/2008 1:39:01 PM

I will give you this, the speech played very well at the RNC, and it may even pick up swing voters. But as a moderate democrat I was offended. I try to give conservatives credit where credit is due but they simply mocked people who believe in liberal ideology. The sarcasm was so strong and as a citizen with some liberal ideology I took the blows personally. You may not agree with Obama but don't stand there and lie on him like that. I felt like the Republicans were saying if you aren't a Republican you don't deserve to sit at the American table. It is becoming clearer every day that this is a divided America. I want government to work in bipartisanship because neither Democrats or Republicans are 100 percent right. The Republicans have made it very clear that they believe that in order to have a better America you have to get rid of all the Democrats. Who is Sarah Palin to question my patriotism?

  • Posted By: kshortSD @ 09/04/2008 1:31:13 PM

Did I read that one of these columnists thought her speech was "sophisticated"? That's weird. I thought it was silly. I don't respond well to jabs, sarcasms, and winks when our country is facing serious issues. She claims to be different, but it was politics as usual. And I don't appreciate hearing anyone scoff at Obama's time as a community organizer. Since when is trying to help people considered amusing? I don't like the tone of the Republicans this week at all.

  • Posted By: Suze27 @ 09/04/2008 1:20:09 PM

I agree with Nookie, it is just more of the same. I felt insulted as a woman when McCain chose Palin only because in my heart I knew he chose her because he was behind in the polls & was hoping he could grab some of the Hillary votes while I'm sure his staff told him he would once again look like a maverick in the people's eye because we're too dumb to know what he is upto & the other more disturbing disappointment is she is a true conservative republican, I thought John McCain disagreed with a vast majority of the conservative right, so once again because he was behind in the polls & needed the conservative vote he went out & chose a running mate who resembles Pat Buchanon and all the rest of the right wingers. If he wanted to get the conservative vote he should have chose Romney. For all I disagree with most of what Romney stands for, at least he balanced the budget in MA so has a proven track record in economics. All I know is that we need to get Obama in the White House!!!

  • Posted By: nookie @ 09/04/2008 1:08:21 PM

It is very clear to me that as a whole the Republicans do not represent many of the afro american citizens. Never have and never will. This is one of the reasons why it is important to vote for a Democrat this year. Not because Obama is a black male but because Historically democrats have always had the american peoples interest at heart. Republicans time and time again have proved to be removed from ordinary americans many plights and this election is proof positive. When Palin stated she is a speaking for all those hockey moms....There are no black professional hockey players that I know of (could be wrong) and with
that therer certainly black hockey moms. So she is not speaking to blacks neither is McCain. And nor did Bush. The only time regular folks (black and white) see any progress from our elected presidential officials is when a democrat is in office. It seems that when republicans get into to office the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Historically speaking. Palin being a woman has nothing to do with nothing. This entire polical stategy is an insult to americans first and womem secondly. This just seems like more of the same. As to experience....A lack of experience by your commander and cheif has never been an issue in the corporate world. How many times has a fresh new young coporate head taken office and performed better than that of someone who has been in that position most their lives. Experience has never meant much in the corporate world anyway. And when you put it all in perspective these candidates are vying for the most important job in the world and we the american people are here to chose the best candidate for the job. And the McCain Palin ticket aint it.

continuation of last post. I am sorry, I can't afford Obama's form of change. I wish I could but I just can't. I am sorry. It is because of of what happened back in the 1990's that I vote a little redder now days. I lost my hospital job because of Clinton back then because my hospital was privately owned and when Clinton became President and promised universal healthcare-the private owners said they weren't going to make any money in that enviroment and sold the hospital to a corporation giant. When they took over, they said don't worry, we are not going to lay off anybody, everything will be the same. After six months they looked at their books and after looking at their profit margin they called in all of the senior employees and said, we are sorry but you make too much money for the positions you are employed so you will have to go. They then hired people off the street for minimum wage. The result, quality went down and coplaints went sky high by patients and the whole place eventually was sold and closed down. I am saying this because this is what Obama is going to offer. This is the result of bad change. That is what Clinton ran on and I can't afford to go through that again. I am sorry, I want change but not that kind of change.

What are you people going to do when this whole ayers thing comes out, and trust me its coming out. I read part of it, and if it is true obama should be thrown out of the senate. Like I said we will see if everything is true, if it is, obama has had it. One thing I know for sure is obama lied about his relationship with him. And I will also tell you what obama wants to change,he wants to change the constitution, because he does not like some parts of it. Now you tell what true american could vote for this man? A man that helped a known terroist get into our higher education system. No he did not go to prison, he got off on a tech. Said wish he could have done more, maybe if he had not been stopped we would not have america today that you dems. hate so much. Oh yea and why would obama not go to the town halls mcCain? because he can only say ah ah ah when he's asked questions that he did know beforehand. Looked like a fool at saddleback.

The Ayers thing already came out. It came out in the 60s! He was not convicted of anything, and he's a different person now, reforming Chicago schools. Obama is guilty of knowing only as an aquantence a SCHOOL REFORMER!!!

If you want to go back in time, why go back that far? Keating 5?

It came out in the 60's and he's reformed now? lol. This what America hating William Ayres said on September 11th, 2001:

???I don???t regret setting bombs. I feel we didn???t do enough.??? Ayers is quoted in NYT article. Yeah, he's 'reformed'.

Could you please send me to the site that has this quote. You must have something to back this statement up, right?

    • Posted By: fishergran @ 09/03/2008 9:05:10 PM

Do you remember the 60's and 70's at all? Do you remember how many Americans were protesting our government then? Ohio had a governor who sent the National Guard to Kent State where they shot innocent students who were protesting a very unpopular war at that time. Ayers was not the only person who did not go to prison for those protests.
As for Obama and Ayers, they were colleagues on the University of Chicago law school faculty. Obama did not get Ayers his job. In fact, he was on the faculty long before Obama got to Chicago. That he held a cocktail party to raise money for a political candidate in no way makes him a criminal. It certainly does not make Obama a criminal. George Bush has had many fund raisers with questionable characters and is on buddy-buddy terms with Saudi princes who are raping this country of our wealth because Bush and Cheney benefit from oil profits. Let's be factual here. Scurrilous smears can be refuted with a few fact checks.

Yes, they protested. They didn't bomb police stations, Golden Gate Park, The Pentagon, and a multitude of other facilities.

Are you liberals just quoting MoveOn.org funded by George Soros? Or do you have any original thoughts. I have a feeling that Barack and Michelle were brainwashed by the people they were taught by and socialized with, leading to their socialistic views. We know that Michelle was not proud to be an American until her husband secured the nomination for President. Got a quote for you, Michelle, from the Father of our country:

Citizens by birth or choice, of a common country, that country has a right to concentrate your affections. The name of AMERICAN, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations.

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 09/04/2008 8:58:40 AM

Seriously, your quote is just wrong and tired. Michelle's full comment was, "For the first time in my adult life, I'm truly proud of my country because I feel like hope is finally making a comeback." How is that wrong? Americans are weary of Republicans pandering to big business at the expense of the middle class. The middle class finally has something to give them hope and maybe an end to the mess Bush and his cronies have us in. Astronomical debt, a housing and credit crisis (granted, not totally their fault), boys (and girls) that are barely out of adolescence are being killed in a senseless war, health care is in a downward spiral, gas is high, energy costs are exploding, jobs are bleeding out of the country, crime is high...tell me, don't you want to hope for better? Or do you just want to live under the same regime that screams out TERRORISM to squelch us back into fear and submission whenever we hope for a better future?

The snarky Ms Palin wants the media to report on her undereducated teen son going to Iraq, but would prefer that they leave her HS drop out whiskey-swillin' daughter and her HS drop out drunk boyfriend out of it. She also doesn't want the media to get too close to the fact that the Lady Bristol is having a baby after being impregnated at 16. That's bad of the media - they should leave it. She does wants the media to report her opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere - after she supported it with deed and money. But, she does not want the media to report she left her little small town broke while mayor, but please do talk about the 80% lovefest-rate as a 1 1/2 year Gov. The media should steer clear of oil talk, oil-job hubbies, oil conflict of interests, murdered dogs and Library books.

The media should stay far away from her being under investigation by a bipartisan state legislative body. And Ms. Palin really promised to cooperate with a legislative inquiry, but this week she hired a lawyer to fight to move the case to the jurisdiction of the state "personnel board" - which Palin anoints and appointed. In her cloud of rhetoric musings and snaps, Palin said speeches are just a "cloud of rhetoric." Which the media should ignore altogether. And for God's sake - for the religious right - don't talk about the lobbyist hired and ear marks received, squandered and hidden. Instead talk about how she was vetted two week ago in three hours.

But she's apparently a good hockey mom, who should be forgiven. A bit nasally though like Fran Drescher. I bet those glasses cost more than a haircut too. Stylish. She'll look good giving her sister's ex the boot.
