    Palin was able to meet the American public without having to genuflect to the hubris of the media. Fineman and the rest of his collegues at MSNBC have appointed themselves the final authority in the selection of candidates and none of these people are elected. Palin made a very good first impression on the viewing public and that is going to make the press' job more difficult in finding ways to criticize her. The dirt digging has already begun as they play catch-up and it's doubtful that Palin will get the same pass they gave Obama for drug use and his association with a rogue's gallery of unsavory characters in Chicago politics. Biden has been in Washington for over 35 years and he has been as much of a contributor to the mess we have as anyone but the worst citicism he receives is that he talks too much.. I wish her well in the days ahead - as she now has to deal with the coarsest, most unethical, self serving segment of the American society - the media. It may ultimately work to her advantage, however, as the media is rapidly losing credibility with the American public.

    Sarah Palin - Summary of Reasons Why Democrats Are Cowering

    Sarah Palin appears to have diligently studied and worked to graduate from university, whereas Obama prompts one to wonder whether affirmative action was the major factor that enabled him to receive a degree.

    Sarah Palin???s popularity and support is based on her ability and accomplishments, whereas Obama???s is based primarily on the fact that he is partially black.

    Sarah Palin demonstrates that she is one of the people, whereas Obama portrays himself as an elitist.

    Sarah Palin can deliver a specific, focused, energetic, and rousing speech without the aid of a teleprompter, unlike Obama who incompetently relies on speaking the pathetic foreign language of ???uhs and ahs???.

    And John McCain, the elderly Senator who is often denigrated by democrats due to his age, has demonstrated that his mind is still keen enough to outfox his opposition by the excellent selection of Sarah Palin to be his VP candidate!

    Howard, what we'll really be learning is how well Ms Palin can read someone elses words, and how good she is with a teleprompter. The speech was generically written for whoever the nominee happened to be - it just had to be girled up a little.

    Obama writes his own speeches - those are HIS words, not prescripted hooey from a speech writer.

    This speech will prove nothing - the debates...now that's when it's going to get good.

        That degree will benefit her substantially in countering the blatantly biased media which is unsuccessfully attempting to criticize her.

        Now, in your case, having such a degree would probably be useless.

        But, judging by the inept chacter of your rants, it would probably be impossible for you to even dream of accomplishing such an academic pursuit!

    This gets better all the time. Instead of being up by 8%, I think Obama is going to be up by 10% by the weekend. When the Repigs will explain how they will fix the economy, then I will listen. In the meantime, go Obama/Biden 08

    Sarah Palin was already in elected office while Obama was merely a community organizer.

    Sarah Palin has more executive experience (as a successful business owner, Mayor, and Governor) than both the democrat candidate for President and the one for Vice President.

    Sarah Palin has actually served a longer term as a Governor than Obama has served as a Senator who almost immediately upon becoming a senator, decided to run for President.

    As a Governor, Sarah Palin has actually set and balanced budgets, whereas Obama and Biden have, as Senators, merely proposed more spending without any concern for how their proposals would bloat the federal budget.

    Sarah Palin has actually decided to and achieved a reduction in her Governor???s salary and fringe benefits, whereas Obama merely fixates on his pay grade.

    Sarah Palin has actually reduced government spending by selling on eBay the Alaskan Governor???s airplane, thereby returning the money to the citizens, whereas Obama and Biden have merely talked about reducing spending in an unspecified manner.

    Sarah Palin has actually opposed her Republican Party by defeating a corrupt incumbent Republican governor, whereas Obama and Biden have never even denounced an unscrupulous democrat, let alone attempted to remove one from office.

    Sarah Palin has not resorted to throwing any of her past and current supporters under the bus, whereas Obams has discarded several, including one convicted felon.

    Sarah Palin demonstrates a loving respect for and appreciation of her parents, whereas Obama exhibits repulsion toward his promiscuous father who abandoned him, and contempt for his grandmother who he has described as being a typical white woman.

    Sarah Palin will be consistent in her statements voiced throughout the many cities and towns in the US, whereas Obama says one thing in Scranton and then the opposite in San Francisco.

    Sarah Palin has actually voted in favour of, or against bill propositions, whereas Obama, on 130 occasions, has lamely voted present.

        Even Obama must realize that many of his supporters cannot actually read and write the English language - that's probably why he suggested that they learn a foreign language.

        Every candidate and every speaker at both the DNC and RNC had their speeches written for them by others, even Obama and McCain.

        Most pundits will agree all of them read their speeches beautifully, not just Palin.

    The snarky Ms Palin wants the media to report on her undereducated teen son going to Iraq, but would prefer that they leave her HS drop out whiskey-swillin' daughter and her HS drop out drunk boyfriend out of it. She also doesn't want the media to get too close to the fact that the Lady Bristol is having a baby after being impregnated at 16. That's bad of the media - they should leave it. She does wants the media to report her opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere - after she supported it with deed and money. But, she does not want the media to report she left her little small town broke while mayor, but please do talk about the 80% lovefest-rate as a 1 1/2 year Gov. The media should steer clear of oil talk, oil-job hubbies, oil conflict of interests, murdered dogs and Library books.

    The media should stay far away from her being under investigation by a bipartisan state legislative body. And Ms. Palin really promised to cooperate with a legislative inquiry, but this week she hired a lawyer to fight to move the case to the jurisdiction of the state "personnel board" - which Palin anoints and appointed. In her cloud of rhetoric musings and snaps, Palin said speeches are just a "cloud of rhetoric." Which the media should ignore altogether. And for God's sake - for the religious right - don't talk about the lobbyist hired and ear marks received, squandered and hidden. Instead talk about how she was vetted two week ago in three hours.

    But she's apparently a good hockey mom, who should be forgiven. A bit nasally though like Fran Drescher. I bet those glasses cost more than a haircut too. Stylish. She'll look good giving her sister's ex the boot.

    John McCain has just announced his choice for the Republican VP slot: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, who is no friend to animals. In 2007, Palin announced a $150 bounty for wolves. Why? Because wolves prey on moose and caribou, two favorite targets for hunters in Alaska. So Palin instituted a program to encourage hunters to kill wolves so that there would be more moose and caribou for hunters to kill. A lawsuit by Defenders of Wildlife resulted in the Alaska Superior Court ruling that the state Department of Fish and Game did not have the authority to institute a bounty program. A state program to shoot wolves and bears from the air continues, and on August 26, 2008, Ballot Measure 2, which would have stopped the aerial gunning of predators, was defeated by state voters.

    Palin is also a hunter and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

    In addition, Palin has sued the Bush administration to delist polar bears under the Endangered Species Act because the protection of polar bears interferes with drilling for oil and gas. Palin even penned an op-ed for the New York Times, explaining her scientific arguments against protecting polar bears. Isn't it funny how her op-ed doesn't mention drilling for oil?

    Needless to say, from an animal rights standpoint, Sarah Palin would be a disastrous VP.

    I was pretty let down and somewhat appalled by Howard's comments yesterday on I believe MSNBC, as it's obvious to me he's wimped out by the threats of the RNC. Give me a break Howard, you looked like a scared little boy. We want journalists that stand firm on their beliefs, not fall prey to the thuggery of the RNC.

    Tonight, at the Republican Convention, being televised by all major networks and major
    network news stations, the Republicans ran a video on 9/11. The fact that they are
    politicizing 9/11 and trying to use same scare tactics to get voters to vote for John
    McCain, as the Bush Admin. after 9/11 and in the 2004 election, is disgusting and
    dishonorable!

    The Bush Admin. and John McCain have both said they will get Osama Bin Laden and
    the people who did the 9/11 attacks. Neither has done anything remotely close to
    going after the people.

    Now, since the Republicans don't believe this election is about issues, they are playing
    the fear card which worked so well for the Bush Admin. McCain said tonight that
    he is a 'Maverick' and 'there will be change'. There is NO CHANGE with these people
    who continue to play the same old games instead of fixing anything in our country.

    Jobs, healthcare, the economy, ending the Iraq war, fixing our infrastructure, finding
    new renewable energy sources and limiting our dependence on foreign oil, restoring
    our civil liberties and Constitutional rights, etc. There are SO many problems, real
    problems that need addresssing. Senator Obama was right when he said 'McCain
    just does not get it.' The Republicans think they will win by fear tactics again,
    but they may just be surprised. The American people have finally caught on and
    that is why Senator Obama is so popular. He offers REAL CHANGE and the
    opportunity for all of us to get our country back to prosperity, peace and
    happiness!

    Palin has become an instant celebrity. She is a MUCH MUCH bigger celebrity than Obama. It is a shame that in this country of 300 million people, GOP could only have this moronic person as a VP. Here is why she
    is an abomination to society:

    4. She said she will change Washignton. Well, she hired Jack Abramoff's firm to lobby for the city. For a city of 6000, she could get ear-marks for $27 million!!
    5. She said she will cut cost, well she ran her city to debt when she left
    6. She has a pregnant 17 y/o daughter who has CHOSEN to keep the baby. But as she is ADAMENT TO REVERSE ROW V WADE, she DOES NOT WANT THE CHOICE FOR MY DAUGHTER. GOVERNMENT WILL IMPOSE IT ON HER THAT SHE KEEPS THE BABY OR GO TO JAIL.
    7. She has a baby with down syndrome, BUT SHE CUT THE SPECIAL EDUCATION BUDGET for Alaska. I guess she did not know tha GOD WILL PUNISH HER THIS WAY.
    8. SHE IS WRONG IN EVERY WAY for America. Last night, she did not utter a SINGLE WORD ON ECONOMY and HOW WE WILL GET OUT OF THIS ECONOMIC MESS.

    Sarah Palin spoke as eloquently as Obama but with knowledge and conviction and a poise and ease of presence that neither opposing candidate can ever expect to command. Let us see if she holds up in a one on one debate. I expect she will do well.
    I have been reading comments on her speech on all the news sites and I am not surprised to see people who don't like Republicans but it???s amazing to read comments from people who are jealous of a woman who is so good.

          Sadly, the American workers with the best health insurance are those employed by the big foreign-owned multi-national corporations, and many smaller American companies have cut back on their remployee health benefits. What would Palin know about that since most residents in her state are probably employed by a major corporation, the federal government, of just drunken drifters seeking Fool's Gold.     Please, Mr. Fineman, please don't let the GOP keep Sarah Palin away from meeting the press. I just heard you on HARDBALL saying that the GOP may try to do this. I know she won't be on any of this Sunday's shows. Palin did NOT go through the PUBLIC vetting process that Obama, Biden, and McCain did via the Primaries. The American people were able to size up these three through months of scrutiny. We only have about 60 days until the election. If the GOP wins, given McCain's age Palin could become president. We, the people, have a RIGHT to know if she is up to the job. ONE debate will not suffice. I think Gwen Ifill is the moderator and that would be a HUGE responsibility for her to take on if SHE is our ONLY questioner of Palin between now and Nov. 4. Again, we have a RIGHT to hear from Palin in settings other than her reading a prepared speech. And we are COUNTING ON YOU, Mr. Fineman. and the rest of the MSM, to hound the GOP and ridicule them in public if necessary to force their hand and let Sarah Palin show us she knows about foreign policy, economics, etc. We are COUNTING on YOU and the rest of the MSM!!!
