    Dick Cheney is in Central Asia right now shoring up our relations with allies following the conflict between Russia and Georgia. Six months from now, in a similar crisis, whom do you want available, Joe Biden or Sarah Palin?

      Yeah, Dicky boy is out in Georgia to send $1 billion in our tax dollar aid in agreement for oil and energy resources, another opportunity for him and his croonies to make more money in privatized contracts before leaving office. What a way to end his term in office by securing his and his buddies retirement.

      No, Obama "came out of nowhere" four years ago and has been thoroughly looked over since then. We just met Palin, and she practically introduced herself with the lie about being against the "Bride to Nowhere." That's her key point about being a radical reformer. And she *lied* about it. Good start, Palin.

    I don't understand the emphasis being placed on this speech...what does it show the country other than how well she can read a practiced speech, written by others, from a teleprompter? Does that qualify her to be VP, or even give us a glimmer of her understanding of the issues? I'm waiting for her first interviews with the press and the debates...those should expose her total ignorance of foreign affairs and most domestic issues, as well.

    I am not sure if people understand that Palin actually thinks that Alaska, especially her home town there, is the chosen land and that God is sending her out to transform the world. She believes that the war in Iraq (eye-rack, as she pronounces it), is a holy war and part of God's plan. It is looney-tunes time, folks.

    Palin's speech will be anything but unscripted. Someone else will right it and she will be coached in the delivery. I am amazed why no one ever questions speeches by politicians. In any other field it would be called plagiarism!

    It's way too dangerous to put that much importance on her speech tonight. Just because she can come out and give a rousing speech means she is qualified for VP? She's been trained in public speaking, participated in beauty pageants. These types of moments are what she excels at. She's playing the cute cheerleader for the republican party, and it's making us republicans forget that she is actually vying for VP! It's insane! I can't believe McCain showed such poor judgement. I also can't believe that more republicans aren't ashamed of this choice and are pushing for drastic measures to get someone else on the ticket. This election is too important to leave up to political gimmicks like this one.

    Am I that old? Am I the only one who remembers Spiro Agnew? Agnew and Palin share approximately the same credentials. Both rose meteorically from small town politics to governor to vice presidential candidate in approximately the same amount of time. Both had a bridge in their past; Sarah handled hers much better. Yet, no one questioned Agnews credentials. He was a man.

    I predict that she'll do well, after all she can read so my bar's a bit higher than everyone else's; and no Carly Fiorina, that's not sexist. However, her thin resume will remain and I know that she'd be voting for Barack Obama if she weren't picked by John McCain. She practically admitted as much in an interview two weeks ago.       No, it's because Sarah Palin was a mayor of a town, a town NOT a city, of less than 10,000 people. Then she became governor of one of the least populous states in the U.S. She has already admitted her ignorance considering foreign policy & the national economy. She has less than two months to prove her understanding of these issues. Obama has been under a microscope in the national spotlight for much much longer.

      Sarah Palin is not qualified. She's no Hillary Clinton.

        She has more executive experience than any candidate presently running. Alaska may be low population but it has a HUGE budget.
        No she's not a Hillary Clinton and obviously Clinton wasn't qualified enough to be VP. So explain what exactly IS needed to be VP?

    CNN) ??? Prominent Republican analysts Peggy Noonan and Mike Murphy became the latest victims of an open microphone Wednesday, caught after a segment on MSNBC trashing John McCain's pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate.

    Noonan, a Wall Street Journal columnist and former speechwriter for Ronald Reagan, and Murphy, a campaign strategist and onetime aide to John McCain, can both be heard expressing disbelief with the pick of Palin after they apparently thought they were in a commercial break.

    ???I come out of the blue swing-state governor world, Engler, Whitman, Thompson, Mitt Romney,??? Murphy said during the mishap which has since been posted on YouTube. Murphy later flatly says of the pick, "It's not going to work."

    Noonan is heard going even further, saying of the presidential race, "It's over."

    "I think they went for this ??? excuse me??? political bulls???t about narratives," Noonan also said. "Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and it's not what they're good at, they blow it."

    Murphy, who was a senior adviser to John McCain's 2000 presidential bid, also adds, "You know what's really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical."

      Noonan and company are right. Politically, McCain stepped in it. Everyone knows this, even if they won't say it on camera. I've never seen the right spin so hard.

    there is nothing groundbreaking about her selection. she was a gimmick and unvetted. now that the mess is becoming public of its own inertia, we are getting bombarded with this reichwing shill as if they were serious about her. She may have been forced by McKeatingFive; she may have been a rash decision of his after the sensational DNC. Either wayshe is simply a disaster in the making, by wrecking the McLame campaign, or by being dangerously unprepared for the job of VPotUS. choose one and lose everything.

Her speech is totally scripted. Palin's speech was pre-written for a generic Republican VP candidate and was modified for her. She'll be reading it off a teleprompter.  Sure, they all use teleprompters, including Obama, but Obama writes his own material. He doesn't let handlers put words in his mouth like Palin will. And I'll bet there won't be any mention of her "Troopergate" problem, her radical anti-abortion position, or her attempts to have books she didn't like banned from the library in the tiny town in which she was mayor. The only reason McCain chose Palin is because she's a woman and a rightwing extremist. If Hillary Clinton had won the Democratic primary, he would have picked a black guy who's a rightwing extremist like Alan Keyes, the whacko the Pubs ran against Barack Obama.

      Obama writes his own material some of the time. I don't know about you, but I haven't forgotten the stink that was raised over him using not material written by someone lese, but material that had already been used in a speech given by someone else.

    The bar is so low at this point - if she can read a teleprompter, she is home free. I predict lots of standing ovations. I don't know what is so riveting about that. It's not like she is being asked questions. And we certainly won't be getting any answers.
