To Tahoe50, Thanks for letting me know. Where did you find this info.? I'd like to check it our myself and then share it with friends. As I said in a previous email, I'm getting tired; and it's starting to show in my ability to spell:) I'll wait for your reply and then get to bed. For anyone who hasn't seen it, rent "SICKO', that's Michael Moore's movie about our broken healthcare system among other things. It really changed my view point on alot of things. My heart says Obama means well. Maybe having someone with no experience is exactly what we need. We'll see...All good things, AJ

As an Independent I was a bit disappointed with the speeches last night from the Republican Convention. Just as the media made cheap shots at Gov. Palin and her family, so did the Republicans and especially Gov. Palin towards the Obamas and the Democratic party. I tuned in to learn more about Gov Palin and what she has done and would do as VP for this great country I too love and served. Instead, all I heard was anger and insults that were some- what very disrespectful. Last night was a comedy show, and yes! I had a great laugh, but please lets get back to the real issues. I want to know about what both parties are going to do for our declining economy and how they can help middle class Americans like myself stay afloat. Although I love a good joke, we must remember that the state of our economy should not be over shadowed with good humor. I am still undecided, and although I am not yet satisfied with the Democrats politics, I must quote Sen. Obama when he said, "Enough is ENOUGH." This is not middle or high school, I don't care who has the best come back line, insults or jokes. GOD BLESS AMERICA if this is all we got to look forward to in November.

If Sarah Palin is just like my neighbor, God help the USA if she ever become president. Being the girl next door is not a qualification for the presidency. Remember what happened when people voted for the candidate they'd most like to have a beer with.

    • Posted By: rukiddingm @ 09/04/2008 12:21:00 PM

and you think obma is a better choice, are you kidding?

  • Posted By: mh_nyc @ 09/04/2008 10:22:29 AM

I don't want a my vice president to be like my neighbor. Do you want your neighbor to be negotiating with Putin? Remember, your neighbor is one of the people you complain most about. He's the idiot who runs over your flowers in the driveway or she's the neighborhood gossip. I'm pretty sure your neighbor does not have a firm grasp on the issues that affect Americans. Why is this a characteristic that you would want in a VP? Didn't people vote for Bush because he seemed like someone you could have a beer with? That turned out really well, didn't it?!?

I was very impressed with how sarah responded to the media attacks that she has been a victim of by the liberal media over the last 4 weeks. She is a great example of a working mother for Amercia with great morals and intelligence. I admire her ability to balance her home life and her career and am sure that she has a lot of help from her loving husband and extended family. She is a very classy woman, and one that I would be proud to lead this country. She is a true American.

Ms Palin wants the media to report on her undereducated son going to Iraq, but would prefer that they leave her HS drop out daughter and her HS drop out boyfriend out of it. She also doesn't want the media to get to close to the fact that she's having a baby after being impregnated at 16. That's bad of the media - leave it. She wants the media to report their opposition to the Bridge to Nowhere - after she supported it with deed and money. She does not want the media to report that she left her little small town broke while mayor, but loves to talk about 80% lovefest-rate as a 1 1/2 year Gov.

The media should stay far away from her being under investigation by a bipartisan state legislative body. And Ms. Palin had really promised to cooperate with the legislative inquiry, but this week she hired a lawyer to fight to move the case to the jurisdiction of the state personnel board - which Palin anoints and appoints. In her cloud of rhetoric musings and snaps, Palin said speeches are just a ???cloud of rhetoric.??? Which the media should ignore. And for God's sake - for the religious right - don't talk about the lobbyist hired and ear marks received, squandered and hidden. Instead talk about how she was vetted two week ago in three hours.

But she's apparently a good hockey mom, who should be forgiven. A bit nasally though. I bet those glasses cost more than a haircut too. Stylish. She looks good giving her sister's ex the boot.

My neighbors do not make snide sarcastic remarks about those Americans who choose community service as a career- we tend to call them heroes. I am a proud hockey mom for OBAMA!!

this chick is nothing like my neighbor, my neighbors and I are struggling right now, we need some one to fix the economy for the real teenage moms who don't have a mom to raise their kid for them. she needs to be at home taking care of her kids, she can't call off work when her kid is sick, MOMMMY is a full time job, especially with 5 kids and a grandkid on the way. I was a teenage mom so I relate to her daughter but I also know its going to take alot of work to get this country back on track and she simply does not have the time.

We need good race relationships in the USA. Obama is about mending fences and working out problems, he's real and hes qualified. Sarah Palin is a redneck bigot, she's scary. McCain seems to be losing his marbles. He used to be OK but now, he's scary too.

Why can't we have the REPUBLICIAN Mayor of a 6000 constituents as our VP? We elected her retarded RUPUBLICIAN Governor colleague as our President for 8 years!

What I find so striking is how willing the Republicans are to stand before the American people and lie!
Guess it runs in the Republician family!

To: ajbjamin - Palin is under investigation for Abuse of Power. Palin's husband is a member of an ANTI-American Hate Group, Alaska Independence Party, that want's Alaska to seceed from the USA. Palin wants to slash funds for pregnant teens, BAN BOOKS, fires people for political reasons, husband belongs to radical Anti-America hate group, has NO IDEA what VP's job description is, left the town of Wasilla in DEBT after she left office. - SHE IS CORRUPT DUDE!

FORGET EXPERIENCE SHE HAS NO CREDENTIALS

Facts we've learned in 5 days:
*Palin was mayor of 5,000 people-size of 4 high schools in Indianapolis - left the town in DEBT.

*1997Mayor Palin wanted BAN BOOKS in library.

*1997Mayor Palin instituted policy REQUIRING city employees get HER approval before talking to reporters - gag order on city employees

*1997Palin fired police chief, town librarian, finance director.

*2008 Palin FIRED childhood friend, Legislative Liaison John Bitney for dating ex-wife of Todd Palin's good friend.

*Palin hired Abramhoff lobbying buddy to lobby Sen.Stevens for earmarks.

*8/28/08Gov. Palin LIED to Newsweek that she "sued big oil." Truth is Alaska sued big oil in 2005 Palin not gov.

*Todd Palin was long time member of Anti-American group, Alaska Independence Party, radical party hates the "lower 48" and wants Alaska to seceed from United States.

*Palin being investigated for Abuse of Power. McCain/Palin hired lawyer, NOW Palin refuses to give deposition.

*Palin supports ABSTINENCE-Only--hasn't helped reduce unwanted teen pregnancy in her family.

*8/28/08 Palin LIED on national tv saying "no" to bridgeto-nowhere money. Palin was FOR bridge, TOOK the money USED the money elsewhere.

*7/2008 Palin on tv she has NO IDEA what job description of VP.

Pls don't forget the killing of Alaskan wolves in cold blood, or that Palin's husband works for BP, the oil giant , for 20 years. People shouldn't think she's going to fight for alternative energy tax breaks, she's going to help big oil. Another Cheney in the White House. Pls Add those to your list, just as a huge ice chunk fell off the Canadian Arctic yesterday. Very sad.

GetReal, I respect your comments and certainly am aware of your points, but if you keep on repeating this over and over again you end up looking a lot like the HolyRoller type freaks who posted similar allegations against Obama. It sort of gets old and nobody pays attention. If there is truly something to find out about Ms. Palin, I'm sure it will emerge soon enough and the chips will fall where they may. Don't make too big a deal over this stuff - wait and see how important it really becomes. Just a thought... from a fellow sympathizer.

      • Posted By: Get_REAL! @ 09/04/2008 1:07:56 AM

Yes, you're part right. Hillary & Obama were BOTH scrutinized so thoroughly that their friends were scrutinized. Hillary & Obama became responsible for every single thing anyone they ever knew or met did. Sarah Palin should go through the very same scrutiny. Sarah's husband Todd should have to explain HIS association with the anti-american hate group and Sarah should have to explain her vetoes of children's health, pregnant teens health and Sarah should have to explain why she fired so many state/city worker for political reasons and finally why she fired state workers because her husband did not like them.

Since when do the Republicans applaud so enthusiastically when someone mentions the Steelworkers Union? Was I listening to the wrong convention or something?

    • Posted By: Michelle O @ 09/04/2008 8:08:31 AM

You are right, in one of the speeches someone casually packed a punch at unions, can't remember who now, shortly after Romney and a union worker spoke. But it came out, their vendetta toward unions. These are the same wolves in sheeps' clothing. I'm going with Obama.

      • Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 09/04/2008 9:38:53 AM

these are two very different types of unions the steel workers union is for the steel workers unlike the AFL / CIO which is a form of organized labor that don't do anything for the worker except take money out of the paycheck and then make huge political contrabutions to the democrat party during a election ! ( example if the steel workers union decides to strike for a contract issue the members still receive a paycheck from the union albeit not as much as the wages they were earning but generally 40% of the wage and dues are suspended untill the strike is over but labor unions expect the workers to strike with out any pay and still be held on account for the dues once the workers go back to work and the labor unions do very little for the workers if anything at all other than get a piece of the wages that the workers earn !

Under Nixon and Ford, the United States built 100 nuclear power plants and American owned Westinghouse was the world leader in nuclear plant construction. In the last thirty years there has not been a single new nuclear power plant built in the United States. Today John McCain calls for the rapid expansion of forty-five new nuclear power plants. Barack Obama and some of the Democratic leadership want to study the issue for another thirty years.

Look folks do the simple math. Our current 108 nuclear power produce 20 twenty percent of our electric power as opposed to the 80 percent that is produced in France. If 108 nuclear power plants can produce twenty percent of our electricity power than 500 nuclear power plants can produce 100 percent of our electricity needs without a single pound of greenhouse gas emissions. Naturally we are not going to tear down hydroelectric dams and geothermal plants and wind production of electricity. So we will not need 500 nuclear power plants but if we could only double the number of plants we would be on our way to relative energy independence. John McCain???s proposal for rapid construction of 45 nuclear power plants accompanied by increased offshore drilling, investment in solar energy and renewable energy and energy conservation technologies will help us attain relative energy independence both over the short-term and longterm. Instead of studying the issue for another 30 years John McCain wants to do something now.

    • Posted By: Michelle O @ 09/04/2008 9:02:37 AM

Excuse me, the reason they stopped building nuke power plants is because there is no sane, responsible way to get rid of nuclear waste. Hello! That's why the Dems don't wanna build them anymore.
      It's a reasonable choice.

    • Posted By: Michelle O @ 09/04/2008 8:50:41 AM

Agreed. And that's why we can't have McCain Palin in the White House. Her husband works for 20 yrs for BP, think she's gonna invest in alternative energy? Doubt that. Those ice chunks will be falling fast and furiously during more Republican administrations.

  • Posted By: ajbjamin @ 09/04/2008 12:41:20 AM

I'm one of those people that's on the fence. I love what Obama has to say but at the end of the day Palin is right. He has absolutely no experience. And Mc Cain has been scrutinized by his own party over and over again for standing up for what he believes in, America and making it great again. He's put in his time and paid his dues, far more than any other American I now. If he has a good plan for fixing our health care system and controlling our borders, he's got my vote and I'm sure many more millions to follow...

    • Posted By: Michelle O @ 09/04/2008 8:37:26 AM

McCain has no greater executive experience than Obama. And Palin has very little herself to tout.
That's why presidents hire staffs. And it was McCain himself who said he was not good in economics. I never heard Obama say that, but he is probably better anyway at math than McCain, because he is a smarter fellow.

    • Posted By: Get_REAL! @ 09/04/2008 12:49:44 AM

McCain can barely remember his name. He does NOT stand up for what he believED in -- he told CNN he would not vote for a Bill HE WROTE with Ted Kennedy! He also NO LONGER supports the Bill HE WROTE with Feinstein. -- He is NO maverick. He is an old man who forgot what he used to be & the rightwinged zealots are trying to prop in up with .. as on GOP said, "a hot babe from a cold state."

John McCain does NOT even support the troops. Here's HIS voting record:

      7/2008:McCain supports RATIONING Vets healthcare.

      5/22/2008:McCain voted AGAINST Webb'sGI Bill[vote 137]

6/11/08:Republican FORBESmagazine; "McCain's top economic adviser, Doug Holtz-Eakin, blithely says CUTS in Defense Spending could make up for reducing the Corporate Tax rate from 35% to 25%". Meaning,McCain will CUT Defense Spending to cover Corporate Tax cuts."

9/19/2007:McCain voted AGAINST Bill to specify minimum periods of time between deployment of units sent to Iraq[vote 341]

5/4/2006:McCain voted AGAINST Amendment providing $20 Million to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for healthcare facilities[vote 111]

4/26/2006:McCain, one of only 13 Senators voted AGAINST $430,000,000 for Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for Veterans[vote 98]

3/14/2006:McCain voted AGAINST increasing Veterans Medical Services Funding by $1.5 billion in FY2007 to be paid for by closing Corporate Tax loopholes. McCain loves tax loopholes for corporations, he votes for them OVER Veterans' needs[vote 41]

      3/10/2004:McCain voted AGAINST increasing Veterans' MedicalCare $1.8 billion[vote 40]

10/2/2003:McCain voted to TABLE Amendment that called for $322,000,000 for Safety Equipment for United States forces in Iraq[vote 376]

4/2/2003:McCain voted to TABLE a vote providing $1 Billion for Equipment in Iraq related to SHORTAGES of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, tactical vests[vote 116]

10 things you should know about John McCain (but probably don't):

        1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has "evolved," yet he's continued to oppose key civil rights laws.1
        2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain "will make Cheney look like Gandhi."2
        3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.3
        4. McCain opposes a woman's right to choose. He said, "I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned."4
        5. The Children's Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children's health care bill last year, then defended Bush's veto of the bill.5
        6. He's one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a "second job" and skip their vacations.6
        7. Many of McCain's fellow Republican senators say he's too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: "The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He's erratic. He's hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me."7
        8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.8
        9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his "spiritual guide," Rod Parsley, believes America's founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a "false religion." McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church "the Antichrist" and a "false cult."9
        10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0???yes, zero???from the League of Conservation Voters last year.10

    • Posted By: Tahoe50 @ 09/04/2008 1:40:28 AM

Huh? McCain takes more money from lobbyist than any other senator and he has scores of lobbyists on his payroll in his campaign. Hardly the reformer. McCain left his disabled first wife, Carol, for Cindy while he was still married. Of course, Cindy was rich, connected and 18 years his junior. McCain is a not an honorable man despite his military service which I admire. But since then he has been despicable in office.

Mccain and his party are responsible for the economy bottom line...
they dont desrve another term period!

      • Posted By: ajbjamin @ 09/04/2008 1:30:13 AM

Our entire congress is responsible for the economy, both democrats and republicans. If we stopped arguing amongst each other and focused on a UNITED States of America, for the people and not the corrupt goverment, maybe we could fix things. I'm not for either party, you're right. I'm for what's best for my family, friends, neighbors, and America as a whole. I'd love to see our Country just like France or Denmark where people are so happy. They have free healthcare, education, childcare, a 35 hour work week. The PEOPLE rule the country there. Not the Goverment. I wish we could achieve the same here. If we quite arguing amongst ourselves, maybe some day, we will....

If you really wanted all these things from your country...... which I seriously doubt you do, why don't you vote for the socialist party?

Here, the closest you will get to decent healthcare or decent work hours comes from the Dems. the rep have never supported labor - I grew up in a devout rep family. That was never the party's platform.

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 09/04/2008 12:48:40 AM

You know, I have more confidence in Obama's expertise and education and I feel that his experience is also impressive. I don't fall for that line about Palin being more experienced than either Obama or Biden. It's just a "key message" of the Republican party and it's patently untrue. But you're entitled to your opinion.

I do think McCain's health care plan is more radical than Obama's - it involves TAXING us on our medical benefits that our employers pay (that portion they contribute toward our monthly payments) and treating that as ADDITIONAL INCOME. As soon as I heard about that, I backed off McCain FAST. I think that would make things even more expensive, as I am also paying for a brother of mine who is dependent 100% on me for his health care. I'd be paying his premium, my share of my employer premium PLUS a new TAX on the portion of my medical premium that my employer pays.

Now McCain says we'll all get some sort of tax rebate - or maybe that's only for those who don't have employer-paid/subsidized insurance. ... not sure. But it sounds awful -- out of touch and expensive, and just one more TAX that we pay - already we have to pay TAXES on our UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS, meager as they are, plus the Gov't taxes on our SOCIAL SECURITY CHECKS when we retire. I think that is OUTRAGEOUS. And I don't hear anybody in the GOP offering to cut those taxes -- oh no, THEY are all about cutting "inheritance" taxes for those who inhereit big amounts of money, cutting taxes for the very rich, etc. They're lousy hypocrites - please don't be sucked in by their "promises" and they're exciting new VP candidate. They're really crappy choices to run our country, and it would be four more years of policies worse than Bushes, now I think about it.

      • Posted By: ajbjamin @ 09/04/2008 12:58:45 AM

Unfortunately, in today's society you can't always believe what you've heard from third parties. I guess we'll have to wait for the debates to really find out what his stance on health care and immigration issues really are. It's too bad no one requires them to put it all in writing on a website for all to view. One final version with no changes, i.e. your mission statment, it is what it is and you can't mess with it all the time like both candidates seem to do. It would sure make things a lot easier for us. Either way, I wish all good things for our Country and I hope to one day see a USA that does what they say, stands together, cares about our people, and does what's right even when no one is watching...

        • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 09/04/2008 1:03:36 AM

No, you can read up on his healthcare plan at his website. I think it's where I found out about it. He may "hide" or obfuscate the taxing part of it... in the debates. I'm sure he won't talk about increasing TAXES when that's what he accuses Obama of (McCain lies a lot, as do other politicians)..
I just trust Obama more. I went to college and grad school with people from all over the world and on the East Coast and in the South. He is smart, savvy and I know he'd work hard to get things accomplished. McCain is so old - I wonder why he is running when he should be thinking about retiring. It makes me nervous coz I know he has a bad temper and I can see him itching to get us into more wars.... just my impression.

          • Posted By: ajbjamin @ 09/04/2008 1:15:58 AM

I see your point. Although, the one problem I have with Obama is the preacher the media doesn't talk about anymore. I grew up on the south side of Chicago and it wasn't fun for me; I was ridiculed and beat up over and over for being a poor little white girl on the wrong side of town. Racism goes both ways and even after everything I've been through, I would still never judge someone by the color of their skin. To sit and listen to that man beat up on anyone who wasn't black for years and years and have your kids baptized by him, is a little much for me. He's an excellent speaker and I love his ability to make me believe in a better America but I have to look at what's he's done, which is nothing. I watched a documentary on him last week, on PBS. His story is remarkable. He is extremely intelligent and very articulate, but he stepped on a lot of people to get where he is today and that just doesn't sit well with me. Hillary, I liked and respected, she had a track record to look at, she was an advocate for healthcare far before it was the popular thing to do. I feel the media really made her out to be a monster, I never bought into it. I want what's best for our Country and that's why I've chosen to keep an open mind, while watching things play out, I feel when the dust settles, I'll have a much clearer choice.

PS - yes, I'm with you on that last statement. A noble sentiment and worthy hope! Let's all unite and solve our problems and stop this dumb bickering about who's Right and who's Left, who's left out, etc. Let's not leave anyone behind but let's be fiscally responsible and find solutions that we can all live with, in harmony, for the most part! ;-)

Just checked the Congressional Vote records and other materials for the 2005 Congressional renewal of the Violence Against Women Act, which renewal was signed into law by President Bush. Here is the latter part of the record stating the actions taken on the Act:

    9/28/2005 5:52pm:
The Clerk was authorized to correct section numbers, punctuation, and cross references, and to make other necessary technical and conforming corrections in the engrossment of H.R. 3402.
    9/30/2005:
    Received in the Senate.
    10/7/2005:
Read twice and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary.
    12/16/2005:
Senate Committee on the Judiciary discharged by Unanimous Consent.
    12/16/2005:
Measure laid before Senate by unanimous consent. (consideration: CR S13749-13766)
    12/16/2005:
S.AMDT.2681 Amendment SA 2681 proposed by Senator Santorum for Senator Specter. (consideration: CR S13749)
    To provide a complete substitute.
    12/16/2005:
S.AMDT.2681 Amendment SA 2681 agreed to in Senate by Unanimous Consent.
    12/16/2005:
Passed Senate with an amendment by Unanimous Consent.
    12/16/2005:
Message on Senate action sent to the House.
    12/17/2005 4:50pm:
Mr. Sensenbrenner moved that the House suspend the rules and agree to the Senate amendment. (consideration: CR H12075-12125)
    12/17/2005 4:50pm:
DEBATE - The House proceeded with forty minutes of debate on the motion to suspend the rules and agree to the Senate amendment to H.R. 3402.
    12/17/2005 5:19pm:
On motion that the House suspend the rules and agree to the Senate amendment Agreed to by voice vote. (text as House agreed to Senate amendment: CR H12075-12121)
    12/17/2005 5:19pm:
Motion to reconsider laid on the table Agreed to without objection.
    12/17/2005:
    Cleared for White House.
    1/3/2006:
    Presented to President.
    1/5/2006:
    Signed by President.
    1/5/2006:
    Became Public Law No: 109-162.

The record states that it was accepted in the Senate by UNANIMOUS VOTE. It was then amended by UNANIMOUS VOTE. The House accepted the bill as amended by the Senate and passed it onto the President for signing into Law. What does "Unanimous Vote" mean to the reader? Looks like McCain again either voted FOR the bill or was not present for the vote. I am sure I could get the exact details on it but I think what is abogve is sufficient enough to show that McCain did NOT vote against the Violence Against Women Act, contrary to the statement of certain someone's below!

This smells a lot like the claims of the DNC that Bush was going to draft our children in March of 2005 that never came to pass in spite of how many Democrats made that claim to me with earnestness. How many times will the Democrats lie to the American people before they get it?

McCain voted against the Violence Against Women Act? Well, I have not checked all of the renewals of the Act of Law but the original one in 1994 has a Yea vote attached to it from McCain. What really happened in that case was that several amendments were made to the Act and these were rejected by McCain. Others also rejected the amendments. What ended up happening is that portions of the Senate version of the Bill were placed in the H.R. version of the Bill and adopted by majority "Yea" vote, including the additional Yea vote of McCain. At least that is what happened in 1994. Now, this same legislation was renewed in 2000 and 2005 and signed into law by Bush. I have not checked the voting records for those years but I think it might be instructive.

How many times will the American people be lied to by Democrats until they get it?
