Amazing speech. Palin has shown grace, dignity and she knows how to pack a punch. I find it disgusting that the far left liberal media knocks down a woman who can balance a career and family. We do not live in the 1950's. Palin has a supportive family and husband that will help her through her Vice Presidency roles. Brillant of McCain to choose her. He could not ask for a better candidate who has lived outside of Washington and brings to the table the views of small town and middle class America! GO MCCAIN AND PALIN!!!

She's not just like my neighbors --I hope and pray she's not. My neighbors don't claim that the war in Iraq was inspired by God (Gov. Palin did recently speaking in her church), nor would they abuse the power of a public position for a personal vendetta and then lie about about it (and get caught) and claim that any questions about the incident are not appropriate. Nor would they hire lobbyist to get earmarks then campaign as a reformer against earmarks. Palin's views do not reflect the views of my neighbors nor do her ethics and lapses in judgement survive scrutiny.

From what I've read about Sarah Palin's adtual record in Alaska, she's harsh, divisive, extreme in her views (e.g., banning books, firing anyone who doesn't conform) . If you listened to the speeches at the GOP convention this week, you heard a familiar tune: That Sarah Palin is comfortable in her skin, that she's a reformer with a proven record. Well, her so-called record is inconclusive at best, and it sounds as though she creates additional problems as she goes about her work.

I realize that the convention speech will serve as red meat for a certain portion of the electorate who cherishes aggression and a take-no-prisoners attitude. But I love my country, and I do not trust Sarah Palin with the stewardship of anything, let alone a nation in such a vulnerable position.

Don't drink the Koolaid in St. Paul!!! Dear God in Heaven!!! Thanks for the derision, the cruelty, the snide and mean spirited comments and the false statements! I have been re-energized indeed, and the Republicans have given me even more reasons and motivation to do everything I can to work tirelessly to defeat a 3rd term of Republican "leadership". I urge everyone who finds the Republican agenda scary at best to step up as never before!

Me too - Giuliani was particularly obnoxious and I cannot stand the man anyhow.

9/11 happened on Bush's watch - not the Democrats. The GOP was too busy chasing after Clinton's peccadillos and impeaching him to focus on what the terrorists were plotting - and so when Bush Jr. took office, they struck.

Guess what? Do you think an AGING, WHITE-HAIRED "Albino Chipmonk" who is perhaps slightly mentally impaired (evidenced by his quick temper, his short fuse, his judgment ...) with a neophyte female VP in office will "scare" off the enemies of the USA?

No, we will risk our national security putting a doddering fool into the White House with his small town sit-com mom from Alaska as his backup. We will be attacked.

The Obama-Biden camp is for adults. The McCain-Palin is for grannies, white bigots and small-town hicks who think they know it all - just like Palin herself. Boy, she sure played well to this audience tonight, though - scary. All white, all bigots, all war mongers.... the cultural divide in America deepens further.

I agree, also the more I see and here Palin the more I like rattlesnakes!

  • Posted By: jalmudd @ 09/04/2008 1:24:20 AM

President and Vice-President should be exceptional people.... not average... They should be exceptional in almost every way... Why would we want to choose mediocre? If we want a truly great country, we have to choose great leaders... Someone "just like my neighbor" is certainly not great...

  • Posted By: jalmudd @ 09/04/2008 1:17:30 AM

Do we really want another uneducated, inexperienced, and less intelligent person than us in the white house?

  • Posted By: rube @ 09/04/2008 1:12:48 AM

The Palin speech defined the difference between the two idealologies...

    education vs. abstinence

    evolution vs. creationism

    diplomacy vs. arbitrary war

    intelligence vs. narcissism

liberty & science vs. right-wing self righteousness

    Obama/biden vs. McCain/Palin
    The chioce is more clear!

    News Flash:

Tonight Sarah Palin was inducted into the republican Hall of Shame.

She so aptly demonstrated her innate ability to spew lies, attack with exceptional distortion and hate and create great divisiveness all while omitting anything about issues.

Yes, this new Republican star is now with great company.

Watch this video. It shows Republicans, like Pat Buchanan & Scott Ritter, are SCARED of a McCain Presidency:

I am a veteran, a woman, and proud of my country, but this is just ridiculous. There were far more qualified women who John McCain could have selected, but he didn't. As an Independent voter I know exactly who I will not be voting for!!!!!! At a time when our nationis facing war in three countries, an energy emergency, disparities in healthcare and wages, as well as a larger gulf between the haves and have nots, John McCain selected Sarah Palin as his running mate. That is one step from the presidency! This position takes more than being a hockey mom or even field dressing a moose, but someone who can get in there and get the job done. This is not a personality contest. This is how we got in this mess 8 years ago.

I will not jeopardize the future of my family on John McCain's whim of a choice. I love this country too much!

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 09/04/2008 12:57:57 AM

And what about our national image and national security - with an aging President and a newbie VP, it doesn't make me feel to protected, personally.

And I've heard NOTHING about the economy from the GOP these last two nights. Drilling, war, protecting America - that's about it. What are they going to do to improve our economy?

  • Posted By: LadyBlueTC @ 09/04/2008 12:37:29 AM

I sure wouldn't want her as my neighbor, she'd just as soon stab you in the back if it served her purpose. McCain better watch out, I think she is running fo President

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 09/04/2008 12:40:41 AM

Hahaha, good observation. I think she's a big phony who is quite ambitious for herself. But whatever, she may be okay, I don't know her personally!

This GOP convention is more worrying because they've not spent any time talking about the economy and how they're going to get us out of this mess the GOP (Bush) got us in over the past 8 years. I wish they'd outline some clear goals, sort of like Obama did in his acceptance speech, which I thought was really impressive.

I have GOP friends who say they're crossing over to vote for Obama this year. It's not because they're thrilled with him but they do think he's actually more "conservative" than the GOP candidates are right now - as in fiscally responsible, cautious about commiting to more war, more diplomatic, etc.

  • Posted By: Get_REAL! @ 09/04/2008 12:39:33 AM

Palin is STILL LYING about saying "no" to the bridge to nowhere?? She SUPPORTED the bridge, TOOK the money for the bridge, KEPT the money & used it on other things.

Todd Palin belongs to an ANTI-American hate group, Alaskan Independence Party, that wants Alaska to seceed from the US.

Her daughter is a pregnant teen yet, PALIN vetoed and slashed funding for pregnant teens.

Palin supports pro-life EVEN if a woman is raped.

Palin supports Abstinence-Only - guess that didn't work out for her.

  • Posted By: jack4rep @ 09/03/2008 11:55:53 PM

As a long time Republican, Palin's speech did nothing for me. I did not get anything from it, and my party seems to be looking more like a bunch of country hicks, and less of conservatives with high moral values.

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 09/04/2008 12:35:20 AM

You know, I never used to worry about which party was in the White House or in control... because either one was pretty good, and you could usually live with the elected one even if you didn't vote for him/her. But these days, I am disappointed in the GOP. I don't mean to make disparaging remarks about any of the candidates, but it's just so frustrating that they keep pandering to the Religious Right of the population -- at the expense and better judgment of everyone else in the country!

What about those of us with really strong educations, who want to see some improvement in our lives and those we care about, as well as those we work with, live near and worry about who we don't even know? What about those Americans who want their leaders to be FISCALLY RESPONSIBLE once again, no matter what party, but who want to go to bed at night and feel that their longterm assets and financial interests, no matter how modest or growing, are secure and safe?

I'm sick of being "scared" by "terrorists" who we've been spending recklessly fighting against for years now and who will be our downfall because we are running up a gigantic deficit! This has affected our economy adversely - and the war in Iraq is tied inextricably to our economic situation today.

I'm tired of being led by GOP leaders who are, let's face it, sub par intellectually. McCain himself knows very little about economics. He's all about war, fighting, fear and war mongering,.... more of the same crap that got us into this spending morass.

Do you realize that the USSR collapsed (the Soviet government) largely because they were spending so much of their GDP on military spending and nuclear armament? We were the richer of the two superpowerrs, so we could outlast them, outspend them and still remain stronger. So they collapsed.

Guess what - we may be doing the same thing only this time the "Soviet" threat is actually our own fear of "Terrorists" as the new challenge - and we're fast spending all our future on chasing these elusive groups. It will be our downfall, if it hasn't already begun. Learn from history - also the Brits tried to occupy Iraq (they created what is modern-day Iraq through hard won negotiations with the Arab groups indigenous to the region at the turn of the 20th C) and they had to pull out because it just became too EXPENSIVE.

So let's have some fiscal accountability. Sorry this is so long, but the GOP convention has spent ZERO time talking about the state of our Economy and frankly, it's the most worrying thing about voting them in for another four years.

I hope Sarah Palin brings down the house tonight. This will be the single most important moment for her, Everyone will be watching. If you want to know more about Palins Background, Her Families Background., and Pics and Videos they have an extensive amount of info at http://www.veeppeek.com

I don't vote as Democrat or Republican but as an American for who I think is most qualified. All this crap about "leaver her alone, you're just being mean" is pathetic. Stand up and take it. She had to know that there would be interest and people looking into ehr every move. If this had been a man then no one would have thought anythign about him being investigated. As far as being like my neighbor, I don't think so. My neighbors can't afford to have a nanny raise their cildren. I could give a hoot about her pregnant daughter. I am a stay at home wife who is raising her niece who guess what, she's pregnant and I can tell you I don't identify with this woman at all. When she was elected as Governor of Alaska she said she would show favortism to her town and she did. Wehn asked about being VP, she said she would have to see what it entailed and she might be interested, depending on the job requirements and what it could do for Alaskans. You can't do that, you have to take care of all states equally.
As far as drilling in the Artic National Refuge goes, why do people not get that it will not be available for 10 years or so. The whole "it will be a small area, like a airport" is only for the surface equipment. In ten years we need to have an answer to the fuel crisis and it shouldn't be cover the country wiht oil rigs.

This woman took lots of Federal funding for her small town as well when she was mayor. It was reported that it was somewhere in the millions which seems strange for a small town of 8500.

She is unde investigation and may face charges although lo and behold tone of the key witnesses has decided to back out. If she is as devoted to the Republicans as she says, she should have declined and said it might hurt the party and their chances of being elected.

I wouldn't vote for Obama becuase of his lack of experience and thought to vote for McCain. better the evil I know than that I don't. Now there is no way I cna vote for McCain knowing that with his age and his health history if something were to happen to him that she would be in charge. I can just see her and 40 people whispering in ehr ear to tell her what to say meeting with heads of state. She has no experience and to me she lacks the intergrity needed for the job since she seems to change her mind on a regular basis. I hate the hypocrisy as well.

Someone with some experience needs to step in and run as an Independent and walk off with this election.

As Peggy Noonan said less than six hours ago, this is a gimmick, and Sarah Palin is not qualifed for the job.

are you peeps really so currupt that you cant see the truth when it looks you in the eye?

All these people quoted here are over 60 years old. Who wants them deciding the future for our youth? What do they care if McCain/Palin make a worse mess of America than Bush/Cheney already have? They won't live long enough to have to clean it up or pay for it. And as much as I like my neighbor - I don't want her to be Vice President of the United States! Besides - "Sarah Palin is just like my neighbor". No, Sarah Palin is like a guest on Jerry Springer and no one in my neighborhood is. Exactly who is she supposed to have things in common with? Certainly not me, not anyone in my family, not anyone I work with, not anyone who lives in my town, probably not anyone in the lower 48, perhaps not even on this planet. . How long do the Republicans expect even their own members to take this joke seriously? Can you imagine what a big laugh the Arab states are getting out of this circus act the Republicans have created, how horrified our allies are around the world that America might force this uneducated, unskilled, unsophisticated country bumpkin PTA mother on them? Does anyone realize what an insult that would be to our allies around the world - and what a bonus it would be for our enemies? I have deep faith in the overriding common sense of the majority of American voters to make sure this woman goes back to the backwoods of Alaska where she belongs.

    • Posted By: laaou @ 09/04/2008 12:25:32 AM

Being one of those allies I'm happy to tell you YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT

  • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 09/04/2008 12:24:08 AM

Cheesy GOP appealing to the lowest common denominator across America, yet excluding the poor and the educated once again from their embrace. Trailer Trash to the White House -- anything to get the Quiet Rich their favorable party politics and profits - at the expense of the very people they purport to champion.

Criminals, every one of the GOP leaders! McCain got his money through Cindy's family, and her daddy was connected to the Mafia through his association with Bugsy Segal. Why is this swept under the carpet?? Man, if was Obama's family, you'd be hearing all about every little details in Newsmaxx, Fox, and theGOP/rightwing press. Just look at how they twist and exploit every tidbit about Obama's alleged "connections" with every subversive inside and outside the country - just because he's brilliant and they're all so envious because their own party leaders are such Losers. hahahahaha

OMG, what on earth was Cindy, poor thing, wearing tonight? What was that hideous bright green contraption? I feel sorry for her, because I think she secretly would like to vote for Obama and side in with the nicer crowd in this country, but I think her husband lost his temper and twisted her arm really badly and she has been wearing a cast for some weeks. Maybe she's a nice person - as I'm sure Ms. Palin is - but I just hate their party - it's not personal to anyone here either....

Hear what the GOP leaders REALLY think of Palin when they THINK the mic is off during an interview... wait 30 seconds & you'll be amazed at their disdane for McCain's pick.

Indeed, considering that my neighbor is a busybody who also wants absolute privacy. Oh, and she's not qualified to be VP either.

I happen to agree that Palin's daughter should be given privacy. I just want Palin to explain why she is not extending the same to myself and my daughter should we face an unplanned pregnancy.

    • Posted By: notroubleatall1963 @ 09/04/2008 12:10:10 AM

What is this crap that all Americans have to abstain from sex unless they're married? Or that we all have to have babies if we get raped, tortured or knocked up against our better judgment.

Are we all going to force our teens, still children themselves, to have babies and ruin their lives? I don't think so.

Give me a sane, adult political party whose interests rise above this private dictating and nose-sticking into womens' business - which should be between her doctor and her. Period. Or whoever she chooses to discuss or share it with.

Poor little Whats-er-name, Palin's daughter - having to have her pregnancy made into a national/global news item just because her mother's been tapped to run with that senile, doddering old fool.... what a disservice McSame has done her family.

    • Posted By: Past PTA president @ 09/03/2008 11:35:24 PM

AMEN! And so much for Abstinence Only sex education. I love the line that "not every teenager is going to listen and do what their parents teach them!" Of course not--so let's give them education on options!

Fact is- Palin's speech was written for a GENERIC VP pick and written by Geo. W. Bush's speech writer.

In 5 days we've learned Palin wants to slash funds for pregnant teens, BAN BOOKS, fires people for political reasons, husband belongs to radical Anti-America hate group, has NO IDEA what VP's job description is. FORGET EXPERIENCE SHE HAS NO CREDENTIALS

    In 5 days:
*Palin was mayor of 5,000 people-size of 4 high schools in Indianapolis.

*1997Mayor Palin wanted BAN BOOKS in library.

*1997Mayor Palin instituted policy REQUIRING city employees get HER approval before talking to reporters - gag order on city employees

*1997Palin fired police chief, town librarian, finance director.

*2008 Palin FIRED Legislative Liaison John Bitney for dating ex-wife of Todd Palin's good friend.

*Palin hired Abramhoff lobbying buddy to lobby Sen.Stevens for earmarks.

*8/28/08Gov. Palin LIED to Newsweek that she "sued big oil." Truth is Alaska sued big oil in 2005 Palin not gov.

*Todd Palin was long time member of Anti-American group, Alaska Independence Party, radical party hates the "lower 48" and wants Alaska to seceed from United States.

*Palin being investigated for Abuse of Power. McCain/Palin hired lawyer, NOW Palin refuses to give deposition.

*Palin supports ABSTINENCE-Only--hasn't helped reduce unwanted teen pregnancy in her family.

*8/28/08 Palin LIED on national tv saying "no" to bridgeto-nowhere money. Palin was FOR bridge, TOOK the money USED the money elsewhere.

*7/2008 Palin on tv she has NO IDEA what job description of VP.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=006axc2aELE

*Palin slashed funds for teens LIKE HER DAUGHTER - who become pregnant.
