Skould Air National Guard Gate be over yet? -- I think not.
Skould Air National Guard Gate be over yet? -- I think not.
Wow, When I first read the article I thought he was speaking about Obama! I guess I'd rather have a Veep who needs to come up to speed than a Prez who does!
And How much experience does Obama have other then he grew up in another land. Does that qualify him for all the above. I think not he lacks the experience of the United States government. I have to wonder how a
man from another land and his wife hate the United States so much then want to run it. The question I have is where they want to run it to? Straight to communism or simply have their own play ground to invite foreign playmates to help take over. He is a scary candidate as far as I can see and I will vote for someone who is definately set on the American People not their own career growth! This is what I see here!
Another Land? Is Hawaii another Land. What land do you come from that your mind has been warped into thinking Obama and his wife hate America? All they have ever done is serve our communities and our country. They both could be raking in millions with their ivy league educations. Your comments are preposterous.
Not this time!
Democratic leadership under Barack Obama wanted to cut and run in Iraq now today and just before our successful surge, just as Democratic leadership wanted to cut and run in Vietnam before our 1200 POWs came home in 1973. John McCain realizes he would not be here today if the Democratic leadership had their way back in 1972. Because he spent early years in Indonesia, Barack Obama may not be the Democratic Presidential candidate today but for our efforts in Vietnam in 1972. Richard Nixon a former Navy officer who served before John McCain years in the Navy understood that North Vietnam never returned any of the captured French POWs after their defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. Only the week long bombings of Hanoi including Christmas day in 1972 with our B52 bombers finally convinced North Vietnam that we wanted our 1200 POWs back now. The bombings also convinced the South Vietnamese that we would support them in the future under the Paris Peace Talks agreement. Although the United States lost in Vietnam are efforts there gave other countries time to develop their fragile democracies. Indonesia today is a democratic country today that is friendly to the United States and has a population of nearly two hundred million people, the fourth largest in the world. Barack Obama spent his early childhood in Indonesia attending school with his mother and step-father during the time of the Vietnam War. It has been reported that the former President of Indonesia stated that our efforts in Vietnam although we lost allowed Indonesia to fight off communism and develop as a democratic country. Our efforts in Vietnam bought Indonesia time. Barack Obama could have been caught up in a communist insurrection in Indonesia during his early childhood if the United States had cut and run and had not tried to slow or stop a rapid North Vietnam takeover of South Vietnam. All of Southeast Asia including Indonesia could have rapidly gone Communist if the United States did not at least make a stand to resist the rapid expansion of communism and stand by our ally South Vietnam. Ironicallly both John McCain and Barack Obama would not be the men they are today and John McCain would not be here if we had followed Democratic leadership to cut and run in Vietnam before our POWs were returned.
Whew, too wordy. YOu must have lots of spare time. Get back to work, or maybe your lost your job under the GOP admin ;o)
I'm in Canada, so I hope these questions don't betray my ignorance of what a vice-president's job is (or, for that matter, what a president does), but isn't there some sort of staff working at the White House? Don't you guys have Secretaries of State for a reason? Don't you guys have foreign policy advisors on the payroll? If John McCain died in office, wouldn't Palin have somebody to bounce some ideas off of? Do presidents really make decisions unilaterally, off the top of their head, without somebody advising them?
One of my early childhood memories of American politics comes from the day Reagan was assassinated. As I recall, it was Alexander Haig or someone (not vice-president George HW Bush) who said "he was in charge here?" The quote, obviously, gained notoriety because Haig wasn't the one who would have been in charge - Bush was - but it does underscore a greater point - the veep is the next in line, but he or she isn't the whole line.
I'll close with another Canadian perspective: I'll bet if you asked 10 Canadians who the deputy prime-minister is, one - maybe two - might be able to correctly identify who it is (by the way, I have no idea). Obviously, our PM doesn't have to make the decisions that U.S. presidents make, but if our PM died tomorrow, I don't think anybody would be too worried about our trade agreements collapsing or our mission in Afghanistan failing. We'd assume that the next-in-line would have some help. Is it not reasonable to assume Palin would have some help too?
She would have the same help that George W Bush has, and since she has the same level of intelligence as W she would be about as incompetent. All the best advisors in the world mean little if a stubborn chuclke-headed moron gets to decide. Incidentally, you do not currently have a deputy prime-minister. And if you did, that person is not necessarily in the line of succession.
Neos- Most of your comments are how dumb W, why not actually use some substance and explain why you have such a vast knowledge about his personal IQ? People tend to use petty attacks when they have nothing to give of substance.
It's a fact, W has been tested and happens to have a low to average IQ!! Oh, do you know what IQ is?
Help is not a substitute for a complete self-admitted lack of foreign and military policy knowledge. Ultimately the president is in charge, and McCain s 72 with four bouts with cancer under his belt already, so is Palin's capacity to do the job important? Yes.
why in the world would anyone take a chance with such an unproven VP. George W had only left the country once also, see how great of a diplomat he was. Mr. Obama has proven he can tango with prominant world leaders and assert himself on a global stage. mr. mccain looks like he has trouble reading teleprompters
it has nothing to do with how many times you leave the country. the point is Obama's only interaction with the other nations is his trip. palin doesn't have any foriegn policy under her belt either, but at least she makes decisions and isn't voting 'present' on everything. when has obama proven he can "tango with prominant world leaders?" by visiting leaders? what other interactionhas he had? ZERO!
I find it ridiculous that the media questions Sarah Palin's knowledge of foreign affairs when she is running for Veep, but they fail to question Barack Obama's lack of experience with foreign affairs when he is running for President. I have nothing against Obama but fair is fair. He has spent almost his entire political career running for office, and it's amazing to me that he has risen as far and as quickly as he has.
I agree with you completely and do you not find it unusal that the media questions Palin about her experience and are investigating everything she has said or done and they have never investigated Obama's. I think the media is very prejudiced against the Republican altogether. I am a registered Democrat, but this time I will be voting for McCain and Palin..
i BET U VOTED FOR W ALSO!!
Enter Your Comment They never investigated Obama?? Where have you been for the last year? Without even wanting to, I know his history jsut from keeping up with newspapers Ts, the Economist, Time Newsweek for just a few of the news sources
Probably because we don't feel that Barack Obama has a lack of foreign affairs expreience.
She did not display any long term vision in her speech. She will not acquire vision by coaching, as her intellect is too mediocre for that. There is ZERO chance that she will be able to guide US policies to counteract the plans of the leaders of Brasil, Russia, China and India, which is nothing less than to push the USA into a much lessened role in world affairs. After all, Austria at one time was a great world power, as were also Spain and the Netherlands.
I agree totally with your comments. Being a hockey Mom does not qualify you to become the commander in Chief in waiting. Especially when the potential commander in chief is 72 years old and has had melanoma cancer return several times. WAKE UP AMERICA!
Nothing you or I say will change their minds. This is the country that elected Bush TWICE! Obviously the intelligence level of the citizens here is somewhere between moss and sea urchins.
you are rediculous. if you don't want to be associated with americans then go some where else. it's not like we would've known the decisions Bush would make. and he did well his first term.
No being a soccer mom does not qualify Palin to become Commander in Chief in waiting, but the experience as Mayor and Govenor does. More than being a Senator makes Obama qualified. She has more experience than Obama or his VP choice. I am awake and as a Democrat guess who I will be voting for. McCain and PALIN>>>>GO FOR IT REPUBLICANS
U R NO DEMOCRATE, U R A BLIND BRAINWASHED REPUBLICAN IF U THINK PALIN IS THE ANSWER. MS SOCCER MOM ALASKA AND OLD FART MCBUSH WILL NOT MAKE IT TO THE WHITE HOUSE AS AMERICA HAS REACHED IT'S LIMIT!! OBAMA / BIDEN 08
what is brewing internationally is an isolation in reverse -- all former allies and reasonably friendly countries will abandon the US to its fate, turn to the Euro instead of the dollar, arrange for their own energy sources, and so on. China and India and Brasil aren't on any great terms and want to replace the US in all aspects of our power, they are the economic powerhouses of the future.
why in the world would anyone take a chance with such an unproven VP. George W had only left the country once also, see how great of a diplomat he was. Mr. Obama has proven he can tango with prominant world leaders and assert himself on a global stage. mr. mccain looks like he has trouble reading teleprompters
Mr. Obama went to the other countries in no offical capacity for our gov't. He had no official duties and did no negotiating. I can go over and meet with the heads of other states and "prove I can tango" also if I have no official role. It seemed the trip was just a publicity stunt as he took all major networks to document many of his visits and the reactions he got.
I am going to post my comment and I do not intend to get in an argument with anyone. To begin with, I used to be a Republican until I learned that they cared nothing about middle class working people, health care for those people, whether they were losing their jobs and homes or about a disabled person who can no longer work but has to wait and wait to even get a hearing on Social Security, when there are minor children involved.
My eyes were opened that they are a ???rich man???s party??? interested only in the wealthy.
So they think they have a ???star??? in their VP choice? You will notice that not one of them have mentioned helping those middle class workers who have paid taxes for years only to be constantly looked over in order to give more and more tax breaks to those who make
huge profits and incomes. When the middle class taxpayers are all gone, because all the good jobs are going overseas, who is going to support this country? More loans from China and the Arab countries?
The Republicans talk about deficits???? They came into office in the black and the deficit is so high now, it is mind boggling! I will never vote for another Republican!!
I don't belong to any political party, so I see both sides in a neutral way. I't's all about race. For a black man to be elected president is just too much for some people.
So Palin has no experience in international affairs? Neither does Obama! One would be the VP while the other would be president. I believe she made it clear that she would put America's interest first, which I see as a strong foundation to start from. Unlike Obama who has made it clear that he is more concerned with bringing unity to the world and our image....Palin would put America first! So the real question is, do we want our politicians to be more concerned with what the international community thinks of us, or do we want our politicians more concerned with us and our best interest? Is this an election for the president of the world or president of America?
And what, exactly, is McCain's experience? No, being a POW doesn't count. I think this statement of his says it all, "In the 21st Century, nations don't invade other nations." Oh really?
what is mcain's experience? POW doesn't count? wow. when exactly do you have experience then?
I agree with Brenda in Texas. Everything said about Mrs. Palin can be multiplied and used against Mr. Obama as well. The only difference is that he will have absolutely no time to learn from someone with years of experience, he will called upon immediately to address all issues. At least she has made decisions in her job as Governor, when has he had been held accountable for a decision that he alone has made that would affect an entire state or even a city?
Michael Hirsh is wrong.
Palin does not need a crash course in foreign policy. She???s got one of her own. Inspired by God
According to an AP article by Gene Johnson on Earthlink, last June Palin told a group of ministry students at Wasilla Assembly of God that the war in Iraq ???is a task that is from God. That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."
Sarah Palin???s belief that the war in Iraq is part of God???s plan introduces a whole new concept in American foreign policy. - namely we can fight any war we wish provided that we can prove that these wars are part of God???s plan
Since Palin is an expert on Russia, I wonder how she would feel if Russia adopted her believes. The Russian Orthodox Church has made a great come-back in Russia, and I am positive the Russian invasion of Georgia. Therefore, Russia???s war with Georgia is justified because it???s part of God???s plan Presumably if Palin gets an OK from God, we???ll launch a war with Russia as well, complete with nuclear weapons.
Way to go, Palin!!! Way to go, McCain !!! John Wayne and the OK Corral in the nuclear age!!!
We may get Armageddon after all - However, this does not concern Sarah Palin. She and all of her follow believers will be saved by the Rapture. And a nuclear holocaust is one sure-fire way to duck the problem of the $ 9 trillion national debt.
MEMO to America.
Be afraid.
Be very afraid.
Wake up honey!! Palin is a JOKE!!
Do no call Palin Honey, She is not a joke but a very good answer to this election campaign. May God Bless her and McCain and show that He is still in control of those that are not experienced as she is . YOU ARE THE JOKE TO DECRIBE HER THAT WAY She is very much awake.
I'M TELLING U TO WAKE UP, NOT PALIN!! OBAMA / BIDEN 08
It has wrongly been said that Biden has to tread softly with Palin in the VP debates for fear of appearing a bully. He and others have to point out again and again that foreign leaders would not "handle her gently" on the international dossier. God forbid we have another ignoramous determining American foreign policy. Such has brought us disaster; more would bring us destr uction.
Thats right, GOD FORBID that we have an ignoramous such as the two Democrats running to determine our foreighn policy. Yes, I am a Democrat but I will be voting for McCain and Palin. And, yes I am a female.
AND NOT A VERY BRIGHT FEMALE AT THAT!! OBAMA / BIDEN 08
Just how much does Obama know about foreign policy.? Everything you said could apply to him.
On Wednesday morning, a teenage boy from Alaska stood in a receiving line on an airport tarmac, being glad-handed by the potential next president of the United States ? because he got his girlfriend pregnant. TV cameras were lined up in advance. The mind boggles. GIVE ME A BREAK GOP!!!
seriously!? because mcain didn't ignore the kid, he now supports teen pregnancy?
Sarah Palin at the helm of current foreign policy would be, pardon the expression, "very cool".
Take a scrapper with principles against power mongers and rogues...
WHAT?!?! She's a power monger herself! Troopergate, abuse of earmarks, the bridge to nowhere, her irrational stance on abortion (none allowed even for rape or incest victims), Alaskan Independence...yeah, smacks of power mongering. And her whole little, "I'm just a li'l ol' soccer mom like you!" is nauseating. I don't want a soccer mom for VP. Do you really think international dignitaries will take her seriously? Please! *I* don't even take her seriously!
Yes, I do think international dignitaries will take her seriously. She is willing to stand up and fight for what she believes in and that is what counts. I think its nice to have a soccer mom, whats wrong with that. She has not let it get in the way of being Mayor of her hometown nor Govenor of the State of Alaska. YES I TAKE HER SERIOUSLY, and yes I am a Democrat, but this is one time I will definately vote Republican!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of your remarks about Palin could be directed to Obama because the European trip he took could NOT give him any edge over Palin. You must be a Democrate to have missed those facts.
is Obama going to take the same crash course?? More liberal pandering by the bed wetter crowd....
Obama is going to work for ALL America, not only the good ole boys. Take a look at all the faces attending the GOP convention. Do you really think they represent ALL the American people.
WAKE UP and face the fact that we are finally going to have a President in the White House who is going to work for ALL AMERICA! OBAMA / BIDEN 08
