Go fact check! They have not told truth yet.

    Comment: John, John! Good speech!
Loved how you talked about being a hero, a traitor, then a hero again. To bad the people who died because you sold them out could not witness your moment of glory. What did your CO say about that by the way? Oh. By the way Johnny, what about the economy?

You sure can pick on everyone else not having substance, where was yours? Good luck with your VP - I'm sure she agrees with the education dream you have for America, considering her kids are dumb.

I am a republican and a "Community Organizer." Not a big fan of community leaders being made fun of by the party leaders. Real nice Palin and McCain for mocking those of us that get our hands dirty by trying to make a difference in our communicties.

Hey bobjoners. Just so you know for future reference; it's Haliburton, not Haliburten, and Obama has two a's in it. So the next time when you're spouting off your conservative rhetoric it may sound a bit more convincing. I doubt it though...

    • Posted By: bobjoners @ 09/04/2008 4:35:40 PM

Messiah supporter- I couldn't give a rat's ass how Haliburten is spelled. Point made. See? Surely all libs know exactly how it's spelled since it's the fallback line you all use. When a lib is faced with facts, the response is always "Bush!"... ."HaliburEn!". Typical.

      • Posted By: Aggie Independent @ 09/04/2008 4:41:13 PM

And the facts, of course with documentation, you have supplied include?

You're a hoot man, but scary to think you will probably vote.

I wish i had bet money, you would mirror back what I said because I would be a rich man. Interestingly enough, I am a conservative. I have just gotten tired of the label attached to conservatives because of people like you. You give conservatives a bad name and unfortunately I stooped to your level because of the drivel you have written all over this blog. You're a waste of time for anybody with an IQ over about 40.

Is anyone else disgusted by the way people treat one another on these boards? Sad thing is, it's becoming quite the norm to treat each other like crap when someone disagrees with our particular points of view. I don't like McCain's views and policies, but doesn't mean he's a "bad man". I don't agree with Sarah Palin's views either, but she isn't a bad mom. Leave her kids out of it. As far as her beliefs and track record, then it's fair game as it was with HRC when the repulicans were going after her. Obama is not the next coming and chances are wont get a 1/4 of the crap done that he wants. However, it's the fear of McCain getting done even 1/16 of what he wants done that scares me. This is truly a poor election as far as choice goes. BTW, I am pro life, anti gun, pro troops, anti war, pro civil union, pro adoption rights for anyone who can pass the qualifications for adoption and can afford it, pro union, pro immigration control, pro health care, pro fiscal conservativism, anti lobbyist, pro public access to governemnt records.

Just wanted to put out my two cents and before I was called either a democrat or republican thought I would lay out my views. Please people, let's stop acting like we are 5 and trying to destroy one another.

    • Posted By: angie418 @ 09/04/2008 9:58:17 PM

And anyone who thinks McCain is a bad man when he was imprisoned for 5 years and tortured should be ashamed of themselves. I do not agree with McCain, but I do respect him. Obviously anyone who goes through an ordeal like that loves their country. This doesn't mean he should be president. It does mean though that we should respect him for sacrificing 5 years of his life, his physical and emotional well being for the good of this country. Anything but is a disgrace.

    • Posted By: angie418 @ 09/04/2008 9:51:26 PM

I am also disgusted. I support Obama, and I am abhorred that some people who support Obama behave in a manner completely contradictory to Obama's ideas. This behavior continues to foster the polarization and partisanship of the people of this country. This not people working together this is people working against each other. People really need to think about what the values are and evaluate whether their actions are in line with the values and idea they believe in. If people do not work together for a better future, we will accomplish nothing.

Brace yourself. They are just getting warmed up. It will go to ethical depths you have never dreamed of. Just pray that it doesn't end up in a civil war this time around.

    • Posted By: mbailiff @ 09/04/2008 8:25:41 PM

i agree people should be more repectful of each other and of the canidates. We should also always leave the canidates kids out of the race. Say Palin is wrong on the environment, say her stance on social issues like abortion and homosexuality are wrong but leave her kids out of it. Also do not question her ability to do the job because she is married with kids. You can question her record and her experience but saying someone can't do the job because they have a family is sexist because no one would ever say that JFK couldn't be president because he had small children. Let's be realistic and question the canidates on the important issues and leave the petty bickering and petty attacks out of the race.

  • Posted By: CheckFacts @ 09/04/2008 6:42:11 PM

Uh michaeledgeh20 when Obama flipflopped and decided to take PRIVATE donations, he HAS taken a dime from lobbyists. Also, as someone who has seen both sides of the healthcare issue, if you think universal healthcare is the answer then you haven't really studied the issue. When I worked for a prominent Cancer Institute, we had people calling from Canada because they had sarcomas and it would take 5 months to get a surgical procedure and then by that time they would most likely be dead. Socialist medicine is not the answer. Should everyone have insurance? Sure, but the government who has failed miserably with Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, etc. is not the answer.

    • Posted By: cbarneym @ 09/04/2008 9:49:13 PM

To CheckFacts: If you think Social Security, Medicare, etc are failures then you haven???t the slightest ideas what failure is.

For example, flip-flopping failure is a GW Bush specialty with disastrous results. In s Feb 27, 2001 address to Congress Bush said he hoped America will join him in paying "down $2 trillion in debt during the next 10 years," instead he flip-flopped with tax cuts which added $3.5 trillion to the debt (from $5.6 in 2000 to $9 trillion in 2007). In the same speech Bush said "we should also prepare for the unexpected... with a contingency fund for emergencies." But he did none of those things and now the economy is being held hostage by need for the Chinese to buy American debt.

    • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 09/04/2008 8:37:28 PM

EXCUSE ME?? AS A FRENCH CITIZEN AND AS ALL EUROPE , ...WE SEE YOU AS A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY FOR NOT GIVING UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE TO ALL AMERICANS!! KEEP SPENDING TAX PAYERS MONEY ON WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION, THAT REALLY HELP THE PEOPLE!! YOU IDIOT!

    • Posted By: michaeledgeh2o @ 09/04/2008 6:53:07 PM

Yeah, you're right. The U.S. is the only non third world country in the world that doesn't have national health care. Once again, we're right, and everyone else is wrong. If "socialized" health care is so bad, I wonder why no other country has taken our lead? Could it be that our system is worse? Probably... And for the record, Obama has not taken any money from federally registered lobbyists or PACs. That's a well documented fact. All of his donations have been from individuals.

I have to leave this most interesting discussion, but leave more convinced that ever to vote Dem this round. In general I would rather a balance, where no one party has control of the White House, House and Senate at the same tiem. I believeas that leads to the radical elements in either party getting too much of their agendas snuck through and I believe that is why the Republicans are now in trouble. Most Republicans are not radical or bad folks, but a few are and given the chance will do damage. The Dems may have the same problems in different ways, but I'm ready to see.

I honestly thought about voting for McCain for the balance I spoke of and because at one time I thought he was the maverick he now claims to be, but feel for balance in the Supreme Court I really can't. Those guys are there for life and we can't risk any more Bush like appointments. And for the Jones University crowd's benefit, abortion law is the least of my worries in this regard.

AggieAgnostic has to leave to go kill another baby (Vote Obama! Yay!)

      • Posted By: angie418 @ 09/04/2008 6:19:26 PM

        bobjoners,

You know, abortion is an issue, but if the country keeps elcting republicans most of us aren't even going to be able to provide for the children we do have. What I do not understand is that the same people that support overturning roe vs. wade are the same people that are against teaching anything besides abstinence only programs... kids are left without the knowledge of how to protect themselves if they do make the decision to have sex before marriage. Moreover, these same people are against "handouts" to everyday americans with families, but claim that corporate tax cuts and handouts help american families somehow... Many corporations have been doing pretty well with their record profits thanks to policies supported by republicans, and 8 years late many american families are having to decide whether to pay their mortgage payments and utilities that are higher than ever or an adequate amount of food. It really seems to me that many republican ideas are not only hypocritical, but lacking in common sense as well. As usual again this election year they are using the same tactics in an attempt to divert attention from the real issues. Obviously, policies that only slightly deviate from the past 8 years (just an attempt to present them as being different from bush's but essentially the same), are not going to resolve this country's current issues. NEW ideas are needed to solve our current problems, and the republican party refuses to evolve their ideas and refusing to acknowledge that NEW problems require NEW solutions. Many people in this country need to research and use some common sense rather than believing everything that is spoonfed to them by campaigns and the mainstream media. Go research information independently using unbiased reliable sources. If people believe the future of our great country is important I would think more people would take the time to fully educate themselves on candidates before voting. Unfortunately most don't. Yet the same people claim they care about there country so much... I don't get it.

        • Posted By: bobjoners @ 09/04/2008 6:51:51 PM

Angie, I appreciate the clear and respectful way you presented your thoughts. Truly. Especially in contrast to the hypocritical AggieAgnostic, who attacks "Christians", those who do not "Adopt" and those who believe in defending the right of a baby to live (over a mother's right to kill it for her own self-interests).

I respectfully disagree with most of your points but defend your right to express them in the, obviously, thoughtful and intelligent manner in which you chose to present them.

          Thank you.

          • Posted By: angie418 @ 09/04/2008 9:33:59 PM

            bobjoners,

Your welcome. We can agree to disagree. I would like to clarify a point though. Many people on both sides do not research candidates before deciding to vote on issues they claim to care so much about. People also do not understand that by posting negative blogs that attack people for their opinions demonstrates that they only value their own right to free speech. Posting negative blogs that attack people do not further one's ideas. In fact, people who post them should be ashamed of themselves for behaving this way when their behavior does not reflect the values that they claim to believe in. This goes for both sides. I am especially appalled by how a great number of these people support Obama. "Supporting" Obama's candidacy in this manner does not further change in this country, and honestly, it reflects badly upon those who support Obama. The Same goes for those who support McCain, its just that you are greatly outnumbered. Obama told us we need to unify. This behavior divides people. Everyone wants change, but you do have to do something to cause it. You need to change yourself first. You need to stop this behavior start respecting a person's right to have their own opinions, and begin to unify this country by changing your attitudes first and foremost. Thank you bobjoners for remaining courteous and respectful, few exist that are.

And your "calling" me a Christian (when I'm a Jew" and you implying I'm against adoption when I adopted two of my five children.... AggieAgnostic.... shows your high IQA? The libs are counting on people just like you.

By the way, do you have a grudge against Christians or those that "Choose" to not adopt or those that feel babies need to have their right to choose defended? Appears so.

Came back. I don't recall implying you were against adoption, though I did assume you were Christian given your tag. I'll take your word about the children and give you credit there, but what is the Jewish stand on abortion? I have no grudge particularly against anyone, but have additional questions for you.

How do you feel about Headstart and other programs funded by tax dollars for underprivledged kids? Are you willing to pay more of you +$250,000 income to help pay for that effort and reduce the debt at the same time? Would you pay more to build more prisons? How do you know when a group of cells become a living entity and why shoud your opinion set the rules for others?

    I think it's called brainwashing

  • Posted By: Kate*the*Great @ 09/04/2008 9:27:42 PM

I was truly disgusted by both the content and tone of last night's GOP broadcast. I did not hear answers to issues nor anything substantial regarding Ms. Palin's credentials that would make her fit to be president should the need arise ( which, after all, *is* what the duty of a V.P. is). What I heard was appaling personal attacks against their opponents and self-righteous ,smug mugging into the cameras. I was also highly offended by the former mayor of New York speaking lightly of the "parting of the Red Sea". FOr a party that likes to portray itself as being the bastions of Christian behavior, I didn't see much Christ-like behavior going on. Shame on all of you, and particularly Ms. Palin for apparently putting her own grasping ambitions ahead of the needs of her children.

McCain wants to privatize Social Security and have your retirement riding on the stock market, junk bonds and subprime morgage loan pools. Of course, with a $600 million wife, he's not really concerned about his retirement. It's yours and mine he wants to torpedo.

Tell this to my son-in -law that has lost tens of thousands in his 401 k in the last eight years, and then ask me to have people take a chance on the market with social security.

          • Posted By: RO in Reno @ 09/04/2008 9:25:40 PM

Everyone loses thier retirement when the Republicans are in office, Same thing happened with Nixon and Reagan.
Reagan took it to a new level when he removed the protections for Social Security and made it available to the general fund with nothing but an IOU.
It's estimated 3.8 trillion dollars of the social Security fund has disappeared??? since. No one knows for sure..seems the IOU's have been lost.

          • Posted By: smurph @ 09/04/2008 7:50:56 PM

Your son should have done a better job monitoring his investments. He is responsible for his 401K returns, not me and certainly not the government. What kind of person looks at his statement, says "wow I lost tens of thousands of dollars" I guess I'll just do nothing. All 401Ks have 401 K managers in the HR department of his employer. If they didn't he should have gotten up off his bottom and tried to do somethig for himself for a change.
I found myself in the same predicament, noticed a loss, as soon as I could I contacted the manager and asked him to move my money to a more secure type of investment. This was done within hours of my request. Of course I lost some money, but hey, can't stand the heat of investing in a 401K, don't. No one is forced to contribute to a401K, but they do loose out on all the employer matching funds.
            The U.S constitution doesn't guarentee a profitable 401K.
Get off your rear and do something for your own self!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely. When it's paid for by someone else. To Obama.. instead of taking money from businesses and hard working people to pay for that education... how about those people just get a freaking job. That's what I did. Oh guess, what? With my education (i come from a poor family) I'm now making over 250k a year and now Obama wants to take my money to pay for slackers benefits.

With your education you should at least use a capital I when it stands alone,I am a kindegarden drop out and I know that, and I do not make $250,000 per year.

You do not have to be concerned about Obama taking your money ,Bush has already done that, all you have do do is be concerned about how you and your great great great grand children will pay China,Japan, and other countries what Bush has borrowed, that $250,000 will not touch your part of the interest.

    COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS:

Obama holds assignments on the Senate Committees for Foreign Relations; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; and Veterans' Affairs, and he is a member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

    -------------------------
As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

In August 2005, he traveled to Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. The trip focused on strategies to control the world's supply of conventional weapons, biological weapons, and weapons of mass destruction as a first defense against potential terrorist attacks.<61>

Following meetings with U.S. military in Kuwait and Iraq in January 2006, Obama visited Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories. He left for his third official trip in August 2006, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. In a nationally televised speech at the University of Nairobi, he spoke forcefully on the influence of ethnic rivalries and corruption in Kenya.

Obama worked with Russ Feingold (D???WI) to eliminate gifts of travel on corporate jets by lobbyists to members of Congress and require disclosure of bundled campaign contributions under the 'Honest Leadership and Open Government Act', which was signed into law in September 2007.

He joined Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in sponsoring S. 453, a bill to criminalize deceptive practices in federal elections, including fraudulent flyers and automated phone calls, as witnessed in the 2006 midterm elections. Obama also introduced the 'Iraq War De-Escalation Act', a bill to cap troop levels in Iraq, begin phased redeployment, and remove all combat brigades from Iraq before April 2008.<68>

Later in 2007, Obama sponsored with Kit Bond (R-MO) an amendment to the 2008 Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges, and calling for a review by the Government Accountability Office following reports that the procedure had been used inappropriately to reduce government costs. joined Chuck Hagel (R-NE) in introducing legislation to reduce risks of nuclear terrorism.A provision from the Obama-Hagel bill was passed by Congress in December 2007 as an amendment to the State-Foreign Operations appropriations bill.

Obama also sponsored a Senate amendment to the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) to provide one year of job protection for family members caring for soldiers with combat-related injuries. After passing both houses of Congress with bipartisan majorities, SCHIP was vetoed by President Bush in early October 2007, a move Obama said 'shows a callousness of priorities that is offensive to the ideals we hold as Americans

** First legislation, the HOPE Act, which increased Pell Grants to $5100, and later joined Senator Kennedy on the Higher Education legislation that passed July 20, by a vote of 78-18. That legislation also included funding for Predominantly Black Colleges to assist with counseling, tutoring and other needs of low income students. It also creates the Teaching Residency Act which will create a school-based teacher preparation program in high needs schools to provide each teacher with a mentor, content instruction, classroom management skills, a master???s degree and state certification, and a 2 year follow-up program.

**The Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act of 2006
is an act that requires the full disclosure of all entities or organizations receiving federal funds beginning in fiscal year (FY) 2007 on a website maintained by the Office of Management and Budget.

**The Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventional Weapons Threat Reduction Act
Authored by U.S. Sens. Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL), the Lugar-Obama initiative expands U.S. cooperation to destroy conventional weapons. It also expands the State Department's ability to detect and interdict weapons and materials of mass destruction. Signed into Law on January 11, 2007.

Linda, you need to separate your texts other wise it become too confusing for those poor republican minds

Smear and Fear the Republican staples for quite some time, but perfected by Carl Rove. Now I will give the VP candidate credit for making a good speech, but it is the same old song and dance, even prepared by one of the Bush team. It will be interesting to see if the Dems attack McCain's war record as the Reps did with a decorated vet last time.

Having said that, if the American public is as stupid and pliable as the Republicans believe they are, and buys into this again after the experience of the last 8 years (all Rep in the White House and all but 1 with Rep control of congress) they desereve what they get and I will join the Republican Party and become a social Darwinist myself.

    • Posted By: bobjoners @ 09/04/2008 3:50:45 PM

The only people playing up to the stupidity of their party are Barak Obama and his campaign and the Democrat Party. And being stupid, Democrats like yourself can only blame the Republicans. So, no new news from you. Your old lines are stale and expected. Good job boy, good job. Obama throws you a bone.

NOW TELL ME WHO IS STUPID OR BETTER INCOMPETENT AND CORRUPT??

This was pulled from a newspaper article from someone who knows Palin, Check it out,

        ABOUT SARAH PALIN

I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.

        CLAIM VS FACT

*"Hockey mom": true for a few years

*"PTA mom": true years ago when her first-born was in elementary school, not since

        *"NRA supporter": absolutely true

*social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was unconstitutional) .

*pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to promote it.

*"Pro-life": mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation

*"Experienced": Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city administrator to run town of about 5,000.

        *political maverick: not at all

        *gutsy: absolutely!

*open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining actions.

*has a developed philosophy of public policy: no

*"a Greenie": no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots. Is pro- drilling off-shore and in ANWR.

*fiscal conservative: not by my definition!

*pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built streets to early 20th century standards.

*pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on residents

*pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city government in Wasilla's history.

*pro-labor/pro- union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn't make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro- union.

"bobjoners" typical graduate of that "college" are you? I don't like Obama either, as I see him as largely an empty suit. In fact I once supported McCain till he sold out to people who own the sheep who vote one issue or buy the no one else can protect us, get us into heaven or whatever works.

Please, do some reading before you vote. And I mean from both perspectives. And if you don't believe the numbers look them up yourself.

        • Posted By: bobjoners @ 09/04/2008 4:10:53 PM

Right back atcha. Your words prove your lack of reading yourself.

          • Posted By: Aggie Independent @ 09/04/2008 4:28:50 PM

I've read your posts and see nothing in them that contradicts the article that you can site. Now I will grant you I don't have to since the article supports how I see it, but for your benefit got to Yahoo News and search for "Attacks, praise stretch truth at GOP convention." It is an AP story that came up with much the same results. And now your counter, outside of your own opinion?

      • Posted By: ravidia @ 09/04/2008 4:02:19 PM

"stale and expected"? i thought that was the GOP motto. what is it now, "we want the world and we want it now (and thanks for not paying attention)"? that one suits them too. either or, really.

      • Posted By: ravidia @ 09/04/2008 3:59:56 PM

"stale and expected"? i thought that was the GOP motto. what'd they change it to? "we want the world and we want it now (and thanks not paying attention)"? that's a good one, too.

Lieberman and Thomson weren't the only fibbers at the RNC. Sarah Palin was lying about her alleged fiscal conservatism. The story is now out about how Palin ran up a $20 million debt when she was mayor of Wasilla. That's a really big debt for a really tiny town. Andrew Sullivan has an article on it now, stating:
"..after you read this, you begin to realize that there can have been almost no vetting whatsoever:"

    http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/an-wasillan-on.html

It's clear the McCain (or Rove's) selection of Palin was an act of desperation due to the success of the Democratic Convention, the Clinton's full support of Obama, and Obama's closing speech.

We'll have to see whether the GOP will be able to sell anasty, lying incompetent such as Palin to the public. I'm not sure they won't succeed; after all, they sold us G. W. Bush two time running.

    • Posted By: agnes82002 @ 09/04/2008 8:41:22 PM

      Spacer;
Thanks for the link. Imagine they had to hire an administrator to manage the town of Wassilla after Palin incompetence.as mayor. I can't imagine a fiscal conservative who gets the town in debt and fmaily values person who denies help for unwed mothers. Well, now that I think of it, I have heard all this before. She is a liar and the media better to ask her about her misinformation. But I bet she sticks to giving speeches and refuses to answer questions about her statements. This is Karl Rove's dream girl and another nightmare for the country. Can we afford more abuse of power. The constitution is in grave danger. Who wil "preserve, protect and defend the constitution"? It must be "We the People" or all is lost.

And Obmas's (chuckle) pick of Biden was what exactly? Oh wait, I bet your next comments are "Bush!"... "Haliburten!"..... LOL typical lib.

The snarkiness of your comment comes through, even though it doesn't make a lick of sense. Congratulations.

        • Posted By: bobjoners @ 09/04/2008 4:23:51 PM

Why. Thank you! I'm sorry you're lack of intelligence comes through. Typical.

          • Posted By: Spacer @ 09/04/2008 4:29:42 PM

If irrelevant gibberish is a sign of intelligence, then you're a real genius. Maybe you can get a job as one of McNasty's mouthpieces. They value gibberish greatly as a way to weasel out of answering difficult questions.
