    To Ralphie,
In fact, this article was republished from factcheck.org which is a NON PARTISAN organization that analysizes political ads and the like and looks for aggerations, half truths and lies coming from BOTH Republicans and Democrats and puts the truth out there.
It is sad to see that you are so one sided that you can not open your mind to see the truth. You will put your head in the sand so as to not learn and grow and think. People like you can not listen to all sides of an argument and thoughtfully digest the information to form your own opinion. You are so stuck in your own internal narrative "I'm right!" that you can not accept that you are misinformed. I don't know why I am writing because I am sure nothing will change your "mind". I find it sad that there are so many people out there like this that won't leave their ignorance behind and educate themselves.

People need to refer to the Republican rhetoric for what it is - blatant lies. And those who repeat it are blatant liars! The Republican leadership is purposefully and cynically misleading the American people. The media needs to grow some b*lls and call these liars on their dangerous and undemocratic actions when they are interviewed on television. Enough is ENOUGH! Do we live in a democracy with any sense of accountability or do we live in a country of pathetic pathological liars and the cowards who will not confront them?

This was pulled from a newspaper article from someone who knows Palin, Check it out,

    ABOUT SARAH PALIN

I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.

    CLAIM VS FACT

*"Hockey mom": true for a few years

*"PTA mom": true years ago when her first-born was in elementary school, not since

    *"NRA supporter": absolutely true

*social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships (said she did this because it was unconstitutional) .

*pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to promote it.

*"Pro-life": mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life legislation

*"Experienced": Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska. No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city administrator to run town of about 5,000.

    *political maverick: not at all

    *gutsy: absolutely!

*open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at explaining actions.

*has a developed philosophy of public policy: no

*"a Greenie": no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores and disconnected parking lots. Is pro- drilling off-shore and in ANWR.

*fiscal conservative: not by my definition!

*pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built streets to early 20th century standards.

*pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on residents

*pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city government in Wasilla's history.

*pro-labor/pro- union. No. Just because her husband works union doesn't make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim that she is pro-labor/pro- union.

Newsweek as a monitor of facts is an oxymoronic association. The articles in Newsweek reflect a clear liberal bias and are always supportive of Obama.

Republican politicians have to tell lies. They have no choice. They are flunkys to the corporate wealthy, but the corporate wealthy haven't enough numbers in their own ranks to vote in their flunky-in-chief, so they have to get a segment of the population to stuff ballot boxes for them. That segment is: working class Republicans, AKA morons. If you're going after a segment of the population based on lies, you have to pick the segment that will believe those lies and can be fooled all the time: the members of the population who reside on the lower end of the IQ scale. As Nietzsche said: "want to multiply your power? Add zeros." By zeros, he was referring to simpletons and religious fanatics, These are not necessarily two separate groups. There is lots of overlap. They make up about half the population and fall below the 100 IQ average. The other half reside above the 100 mark and are immunized against the BS by their intelligence. But the top one percent must continuously lie to keep their morons in their pocket, therefore they have no choice but to lie, and it doesn't bother them that the non-morons know they're lying. As you may notice if you have read the comments here, the moron demographic even speaks out in defense of their masters, and will fight wars and die for their oppressors. They ask nothing in return, and get nothing except the "honor" of "dying for their country" and to be entertained by the TRUTH that comes to them from FOX News and his compassionate HolyRollership Rush Limbaugh. Keep the faith, morons. It is you who will be most likely to struggle from paycheck to paycheck, and be one family tragedy or sickness away from bankruptcy. You know you love it. It's called masochism. Social masochism. McCain and Palin for your New Gods..

Nice job. Now go marry someone of the same sex, smoke some pot, collect unemployment and participate in every program created by Democrats that is funded by hard working Americans. Oh, and continue parroting NoBama's socialist/communist rants (that are veiled under the label as "Hope" and "Change" and new ideas... Ha. What a joke.

Hey, Bob, Obama can have your vote any time he wants it. All he has to do is promise to bring back slavery to America.

              • Posted By: americanpatriot51 @ 09/04/2008 6:38:54 PM

If you check your facts and history it was actually the Republican party, headed by Abe Lincoln, who abolished slavery, and again the Republican party who enacted civil rights.

                • Posted By: jonnyooh @ 09/04/2008 8:17:31 PM

The Republican party today has nothing in commen with Abe Lincoln. He would turn over in his grave if he saw what George Bush did to the country. And I've noticed that it was the scumbag Republicans who made wearing flag lapel pins fashionable. They should go to prison for desecrating the flag. Also I have noticed that it is the Republican working class morons who give themselves blog names like The Truth, americanpatriot and such.prissy and phony names. However, I think it was Lyndon Johnson who did more for civil rights, so much that the Republicans used it to bring America's morons over to the Republican party, because they were so reviled by going to school with blacks and seeing them in white resturants, and drinking from the same water fountains. Yep, americanpatriot, it was the working class republicans that had the fire hoses turned on those people, and they sure miss those days of slavery that are so regretfully gone with the wind.

                  To the Historian:
The Civil Rights Act and the Voting rights acts were opposed by the Republican Party.
Lyndon Johnson's Administration is responsible for finally getting the Civil Rights in this countyr.
Nixon has insisted in his debate with Kennedy that African-Americans did not need such legislation. They just had to " pull up their boots by the bootstraps" Johnson's fear after finally getting voting rights for all Americans was that the south would go republican as a result.

Everyone that has worked has paid the unemployment payments that he or she receives even though it does not show up on the payment stub, the employer has deducted it from the workers pay before he arrives at a pay scale for the employee,no oee is being guven anything when he or she receives unemployment benefits,it is just like paying insurance on your car or health insurance.

When an employer desides to hire someone he calucates how much that he can afford to pay that person,if he desides that he can afford to pay twenty five dollars per hour and he knows that he will have to pay about six dollars per hour to work that person he will ony give that person ninteen dollars per hour in a sense that person is paying his own unemployment benefits other wise he could get twenty five dollars per hour less income tax,no tax payer is giving that person anything.

        1) So people of the same sex are automatically Democrats?
        2) Wasn't there something about Bush and cocaine use?
        3) If the programs are funded by hard working Americans and Americans are both Democrats and Republicans, doesn't that mean that Democrats are also hard working Americans?
Bob, your arguments are rife with logical fallacies, even if your intention is satire (which I am starting to doubt). If you believe you are right and believe that McCain will be a better president, it is your right as an American citizen to vote for him. But to espouse your opinions as unequivocally absolute is truly ignorant and I hope that you understand you leave no doubt as to what your priorities in life are.

I believe what makes the Republican platform so enticing for so many is that they fully understand the art of creating fear. It's not a new tactic. It's the same old stuff....other people hate us...gay marriages will harm us...better health care is socialization...a government who takes care of it's needy is communistic...etc...etc...etc. There is a shift happening in America and the world and I believe that means that the growing numbers of people who can not make a decent living in this country are getting tired of the same old stuff. It's just a matter of time when enough of you who support the twisted ideas of the Republican platform finally reach the point when you see that your life is being negatively affected too. Your refusal to try to get to the truth is amazing. Jonnyooh, you are right about one thing, it takes intellegence to find the truth. It requires research and reading. Something I don't think enough Americans do, so they are left with fear. When I listened to Palin's speech last night all I could focus on was what was unsaid. Reading between the things she was careful not to say are...give us your sons and daughters to continue fighting a dishonest war...support big business so they can continue to flash their outrageous profits in our faces while trying to make us believe it is to our benefit...hope and change is a bad...teen pregnacies and marriages in the face of AIDS and other std's is not a concern...goverment helping to improving the lives of people left out to dry by the bad policies of a war mongering administration is ok...the list goes on. Wake up America. All of our lives are going down the drain...fast!

Joan, the working class Republicans may not understand much, but they understand hunger pains. I predict that about a year and a half after they see their ribs sticking out, they will begin to put two and two together and figure out how they got that way. Don't count too much on the media to help them do the figuring.

IT SEEMS THAT ALL THE YEARS THAT VETERANS LIKE MYSELF SPENT DEFENDING THIS COUNTRY HAVE GONE TO WASTE...I AM A PATRIOT, I LOVE THIS COUNTRY BECAUSE OF THE FREEDOMS THAT ALLOW US TO EXPRESS OUR OPINIONS, HOWEVER WE SOMEHOW TWIST THOSE THINGS INTO SPINS ABOUT THE PERSONAL LIVES OF THE VERY PEOPLE THAT WE ARE ABOUT TO ELECT TO GOVERN THIS GREAT COUNTRY. WHEN WE DO THIS WE TAKE AWAY FROM THE VERY OFFICE WE ELECT THE RESPECT AND PRIDE THIS COUNTRY WAS BUILT UPON. DEMOCRATS NEED TO FACE UP TO THE FACT THAT OBAMA HAS NEVER LED AT ANYTHING, BUT CO-SPONSORED A FEW ITEMS. THIS COUNTRY NEEDS A LEADER AND ITS NOT AN ON THE JOB TRAINING POSITION. IF THE BEST YOU CAN DO TO SUPPORT YOUR CANDIDATE IS TO CRY ABOUT WHAT SOMEONE SAID ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE AND TRY TO CONVENCE THEM THAT THE WOMAN WHO IT ON THE OTHER TICKET IS LESS A CITIZEN BECAUSE SHE IS A WOMAN, THEN YOUR CANDIDATE IS NOT READY FOR THE PRESIDENCY. YOUR DESIRE TO BE TREATED FAIR IS COMMENDABLE....BUT DON'T PLAY THE RACE CARD UNLESS YOU WANT RACE TO BE THE ISSUE, DONT COMMENT ABOUT SOMEONES INEXPERIENCE UNLESS YOU CAN DEAL WITH YOUR GREATER INEXPERIENCE BEING REVEALED, DON'T QUESTION WHETHER A WOMAN CAN BE BOTH A VICE PRESIDENT AND MOTHER, UNLESS YOU CAN PROVE IT WILL HAVE NOT EFFECT ON YOUR OFFICE AND BEING A FATHER . THE GOLDEN RULE WAS A WONDERFUL THING WHEN WE WERE TAUGHTIT IN SCHOOL, BUT LIKE ANYTHING ELSE THAT WAS GOOD IT SEEMS TO HAVE FADED DUE TO BLATANT LIBERALISM. GOD BLESS AMERICA.....

I may be one person but I don't feel your service to this country was in vain I and my family hold our veterans and current troops in the highest of esteem.

Sarah Plain implied that her and her husband support union workers. Big LIE!!!
Statement by USW International President Leo W. Gerard on John McCain's Selection of Sara Palin As His Running Mate
    Friday, August 29, 2008 4:56 PM

WASHINGTON, Aug. 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- 'It is important to realize that while the governor's husband is a member of a union, this does not automatically qualify her for an on-the-job training program to become a heartbeat away from the presidency. And while her husband is one of 850,000 dues-paying members of the steelworkers union, it does nothing to absolve Sen. McCain of his long history of anti-union sentiment and anti-worker actions, including continuously pushing an anti-working family agenda that:

    -- Opposes giving workers the right to bargain collectively;
    -- Jeopardizes retirement security by privatizing social security;
-- Further threatens job security by signing more job-stealing trade deals without the regard to human rights and environmental abuses; and,

-- Erodes the ability of working families to secure quality health care by taxing their employer-provided coverage for both active and retired workers.

    (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20080131/DC12982LOGO )

McCain's choice is another example of his poor judgment and his desire to play politics as usual. McCain-Palin is not a team that works for working families. The first-term governor's record is thin and divisive. And John McCain has a life-long record of being for the rich and powerful. No union card can hide that any more than Ronald Regan's union card did.'

This neglected to discuss how the taxes on small businesses would eliminate jobs. Free markets work and there are several holes in this article which only focuses on two portions of each candidates economic plan. You would need to look at both plans in their entirety to see the whole effect and I am of the opinion that neither plan is effective.

What is lacking in America is the sense of individual responsiblity and accountability that are essential in any democracy. Wildlifeusa - you diminish your argument by your manner of delivery. You have the right to your opinion, but I, nor any rational person, will listen to someone who is irate and is making an argument based solely on emotion without reference to fact.

This country was founded on the principles that every man has opportunity to succeed if he so makes that choice. We have an entire class of citizen living off of the hard work of honest Americans who make good decisions, pay their taxes, and live honorable lives. No one is perfect and while I feel that there is corruption in Washington on both sides, I am assuming you have never been in the position of being a public authority charged with making decisions for your constiuents.

We, as average citizens, do not always have the complete picture when it comes to the decisions our leaders make. We have to rely on misinformation from the main stream media (which is biased - like Newsweek which is very polar to the liberal front) and we are also being held back from seeing other information that the MSM doesn't want us to see because it goes against their agenda.

I suggest looking at new reels from the UK (BBC in particular) as well as independent news outlets. Very few Americans are as educated as they should be when making comments about these issues. I spend a great deal of time research both sides of the coin and I admit that I am still ignorant on many issues to which I don't have enough information to readily argue.

Factcheck.,org does show some good information, but it is incomplete so has to be taken for what it is.

Again, I will maintain that angry attacks only detract from making a good point and I personally can't take those attacks to heart. Give me a thorough, well researched argument without the emotional outbursts and I will listen. By being so angry, you are being the very zealot you claim to hate.

By the way - hatred has no place in American values.

What "class" is it that lives off of the hard work of honest Americans? An entire class? I am really interested in your answer.

      • Posted By: americanpatriot51 @ 09/04/2008 4:35:06 PM

For one, illegal immigrants receive many benefits in America without paying their dues. The average American taxpayer is paying for that. Also, the top 5% of wage earners pay approximately 50% of all taxes in America with the top 25% paying 85% of American taxes. We each, as citizens of this country have an equal responsibility to pay taxes. So where are the other 75%? Please answer that for me. Please check out the stats at www.irs.gov and then check out this article (although I admit I cannot confirm accuracy other than with a crosscheck from the IRS website): http://www.american.com/archive/2007/november-december-magazine-contents/guess-who-really-pays-the-taxes

Aside from illegal immigrants receiving benefits from our system (although I will give them that they actually work) we have citizens that are completely dependent on the government to support them through welfare and various social programs that allow them to live at the expense of those actually paying taxes.

And lastly, please check out the 2006 Index on Dependency - there are many dependent on government handouts (which are funded by us, the taxpayers): http://www.heritage.org/Research/Budget/cda06-11.cfm

The middle class is dwindling because of taxation more than any other reason. If not taxed directly, then we end up paying it as it is passed on when we consume goods and services.

Also, if you have studied tax law in any way shape or form, you will know that tax loopholes and benefits can take someone who makes $30,000 a year (meaning their tax burden is $4,500) can actually be refunded 100% of this amount and actually receive more... thus not paying tax at all.

Also - consider all of the citizens who live solely on social security. I have family who do this (though I do NOT agree with it). I personally support a privatized program. However, we have a "class" of senior citizens who have not properly planned for their own retirement and elderly years and live solely on government handouts. The real kicker is - many of these people only paid into the system for a short time, but will be living off of it for anywhere from 5 to 30 years depending on how long they live. For example, I have a great uncle who paid into SS for only 8 years, but received its benefit and lived solely off of that income for 25 years and complained that he deserved a better retirement, but guess what? That was his own fault. We are responsible for the course of our own lives and if we do not plan properly, we pay the consequences.

People forget that with freedom comes responsibility. We all have a right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness - but not the right to benefit from the labors of others when we ourselves do nothing.

FYI - Incomes taxes are unconstitutional. http://freedomsite.net/irs.htm

          Apat51:

I commend your blogs and substantiated opinions.

FactCheck usually is less biased than this and, as a statistician that dwelves in daily datums, am disappointed in they're lack of reference to the net tax effect on business and those over 250K (which I question equates to being rich anymore) as you have illustrated.

I have paid into social secutiy for over 30 years and I hope I can something back. Imagine what I could have accumulated just following the Dow if it was privatized when I started.

          • Posted By: americanpatriot51 @ 09/04/2008 7:02:52 PM

I hope you do get something for your hard work and for paying taxes as any honest American does. I hope my parents do too. SS is a failing system. There is no one good way to fix it.

Thank you for the compliment. I try to present my opinions in the most respectful and well researched manner possible and try to take criticism in stride if it is substantiated (which means I need to research more!).

This is a very polarized campaign. I regret that, I wish we had two great candidates and some choices, but we don't, really. I do like Palin and do support McCain, but I can't say I agree with him 100%.

What I do know is this - SS was never meant to be a full retirement, rather a supplement. I am young and moving into my "middle career". I do not count on receiving any SS at all. I am planning accordingly with what I make now. A lot of people blast me for being a Republican because I am "privileged" and have "money". I make about what the national average is, so I am no better off than the average American.

If everyone exercised even a modicum of respect for one another and refrained from the attacks, perhaps we could get to the real facts. I find that resorting to attacks on either side indicates one of two things:

            1) A lack of education on the issues and so any disagreement can only be met with an attack

            or

            2) These folks have allowed emotionality and sensationalism to overtake their objectivity and better judgement - which generally indicates that they don't really have strong faith in their own convictions enough to make a polite, objective argument. and result to insults because they have no facts to back up their points, which otherwise might be informational to others.

I get upset over issues I feel very strongly about, based on my upbringing and belief system, which is another issue. There are very competing belief systems that exist in this country and some of those are not in sync with the traditional values that America was founded on and the spirit this country was conceived in. It will be interesting to see which route America chooses to take.

I think there are good people in both parties and bad people in both parties. I also think that a lot of people want the same ends - it just the difference in opinion on what means it takes to reach those ends.

I am verbose - my apologies.

It he is drawing Social Security after only working 8 years then something is wrong. To qualify for Social Security if you are a worker and pay into it. (Not talking about illegal aliens) You must have 40 quarters which in fact is 10 years not 8. Unless he is drawing disability insurance.

    • Posted By: brinder @ 09/04/2008 4:08:18 PM

I appreciate the tone of your comment. But I believe you over-simplify on a few points.

Free markets have proven to work well, but only in markets where there is a sufficient number of suppliers and consumers where supply and demand can set the price. However, in cases where there are too few suppliers or too few consumers external (some say government) must intervene, else the market (prices) stay out of balance. You also leave no room for public infrastructure and common property. These must be taken into account when formulating policy for the macro economy. Increased taxes on any business would not, in and of themselves eliminate jobs just as decreasing taxes won't necessarily create them.

If you believe that this country was founded on an individual's opportunity to succeed, you need to look a little more closely at it's history. The changes that allowed for our current American dream came after decades or even centuries of struggle. Unbelievably, it is a struggle to continues today.

I agree with you that relying on any one media source is dangerous, and that spouting labels and rhetoric detracts from the important discussion of issues.

Look forward to hearing more from you.

      • Posted By: americanpatriot51 @ 09/04/2008 4:56:34 PM

You are correct. It is difficult to get into the meat of these issues in a forum such as this and it is a bit oversimplified. I ran the numbers on both plans in their entirety and neither economic plan (in my mind) will solve all of our problems. However, I don't think there will ever be a perfect solution. No matter what, someone will disagree with it.

As for free markets, I agree with your comment to an extent. There does have to be some regulation for the protection of the people, but in some cases it has gone overboard. Government interference in free markets has and can again potentially cause problems.

I certainly do not have all the answers, not even close. I believe that I have a good background for understanding though. I apologize for being a bit trite, but I received my advanced degree in International Business Administration and Policy and have about 5 years worth of economics coursework plus professional experience. I am lacking in public administration though.

Only time will tell if our fiscal and monetary policies now will help or hurt the economy in the long run. People need to keep in mind that neither B. Hussein Obama nor John McCain are economists, nor do they have financial sector experience. You can't be an expert in everything.

I believe in free markets and capitalism, but I also believe that there must be a mechanism to keep business ethical (if we had, the financial companies wouldn't be so insolvent and struggling because of their bad loans) is to educate and push future business leaders to hold high ethical standards.

As for supply vs. demand, this is, as always a tricky scenario, one which we are facing in the energy sector. I am interested in hearing any further analysis that you have as I appreciate rational, informed information. I am entrenched in very specific areas of our economy which I do base a great deal of my position on, so I welcome more information.

Correction: They wil have us in ANOTHER shooting war before they can find the bathrooms in the White House.

Whether you call it "red meat" or BS, bottom line is that Cheney/Bush administration is handing off a real mess to somebody and the only way that McCain/Palin can win is to destroy Obama anyway that they can.

Not surprisingly, the Karl Rove Klan has taken the campaign to new lows - his trademark is gutter politics.

With much of the population (the whiners) furious with the corruption and incompetence of the Cheney/Bus administration that has gotten us into this mess, we can expect a wide spread and aggressive retaliation from the general population, if not from the Obama staff.

McCain/Palin are now crying "he hit me back first".

If they couldn't see the logical consequences of their actions in such an obvious situation, what can we expect from them if they are elected?

I predict they will have us in a shooting war before either of them can find the bathrooms in the White House.

Obviously the McCain campaign and party have little issue with accuracy or truth here. I guess that is what you must rely on when your platform is without substance on economic issues.

Hold on, you mean Obama. Right?

Oh wow, the Messiah lowered himself to co-sponsor bills that are nobrainers? Surprise, surprise. I didn't think anyone who could only vote "PRESENT" had the guts to do that. Where was he on the critical pieces of legislation? Where is he on illegal immigration or energy independence? What has he voted on these issues? Did he cross the isle on these issues? AND FYI Obama has written 2 books which makes me doubt your article altogether. They are: The Audacity of Hope and Dreams from my Father (check amazon.com). Sounds like this fact checker needs a fact checker. What a joke! Did you drink your Obama Koolaid today?

Hey look now I can be like Olberman after all the RNC speeches...you know harping over petty wording details:.....americandefender you said "Animals are going extict by the thousands our weather is changing dramatically, hurricanes are lining up one after another" actually even if you buy this global warming leading to extinctions (I do) it would be properly worded: animals are dying by the thousands and species are going extinct by the tens to hundreds...also the number of hurricanes we are having keeps us on pace for what is a "normal" hurricane season...it began slow. See how stupid the logic I just used to "remove the spin from her comment" why doesn't everyone realize this is how olberman, MSNBC and Newsweek look each time they publish junk like this.....by the way I agree we need to save the planet but lets do it while referencing honest facts from all unbiased sources.

I don't agree with you on global warming, but thank you for presenting a logical and objective approach to this.

Thank you Palin for the inspiration! I just donated $50 to Obama and $50 to Clinton.

Andrew Sullivan nice unbiased source Spacer....why don't you ask a oil guy if we should get more oil and keep his profits high.

Sullivan's was reporting on what citizens of Wasilla had said. It shouldn't be too difficult to fact check Palin's record as mayor. Too bad McCain was too desperate or incompetent to have her vetted. She's a budget-busting, power-abusing, global-warming denying, anti-science creationist with a secessionist hubby. And she's going to be a major embarrassment to McCain, who is pretty good at embarrassing himself as it is (He should have chosen Lieberman because he needs someoen to remind him of the differences between Sunni and Shia).

Ha. I love how you liberals are so easily deceived. Do me a favor. Check on those unbiased citizens that Sullivan reported on then come back and post another brilliant comment.
