Did FactCheck.org do a Democratic Convention Spin article? Of course not. And we wonder why many think there is a media bias. Watch how the media spins everything. When a republican speaks against a democrat, its an attack. When a democrat speaks against a republican, its called criticism. Journalism in America is dead. Even Ted Koppel, who doesnt come close to being a republican, said that objectivity in journalism is dead. It was funny to see Bill and HIllary Clinton and the governor of PA complain of media bias during the preliminary, and they were right. Now they know how it feels to be a republican.

If there is a "liberal bias" there should be. The job of the press is to question power not agree with everything that comes out of the mouth of attack dogs like the republicans. You guys had the presidency, and the congress (more than 8 years a majority) and everything has gone to hell in a hand basket. By the way how come most of politacal radio talk shows are almost all of a conservative bent. Learn to accept hearing the truth the maybe you guys can learn to start telling the truth

      • Posted By: finsleft10 @ 09/04/2008 5:06:21 PM

Yes, talk radio is conservative. But they are not journalists who pretend to be objective. They have a bias and anyone who listens to talk radio knows it. They dont hide it. The main stream media pretends to be objective. In reality, they are just as biased towards democrats as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are towards republicans. Second, everytime conservatives talk about media bias, liberals bring up talk radio and Fox news. The liberal argument is talk radio and Fox news favor republicans. Well every major newspaper, Time, Newsweek, ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC favor democrats. Do the math.

You proved my earlier point by using the word "attack". For liberals, its always a personal attack when a republican does it, but justified criticism when democrats do it. Yes, the job of the media is to ask questions, but when was the last time the main stream media asked tough questions to democrats. You are blind if you cant see the difference between the way the media reports on democrats vs. republicans.

Lastly, as I asked earlier, did factcheck do an article on the democrat convention. Didnt think so!! Please dont tell me that is because there werent any lies at the democratic convention. I'll start you with an easy one, check with Mr. Clintons economy facts.

Finsleft10v- agreed. Also, everything hasn't gone to "hell and a hand basket". The left would have everyone believing we are in the middle of the Great Depression which we aren't even close to. And - gasoline was $2.50 (approx) in 2006 before the Democratic controlled legislative branch took over and the DJIA and S&P 500 were increasing ... funny how gas started rising in 2007 and surged in 2008 after the Democrats came into power and the economy started fallling. I find that interesting and now they will not take action to help relieve Americans. Interesting..... The President is blamed for these ills, but he is really not much more than a figurehead. Take a hard look at the last 8 years. The Republican majority did little while in control of the legislative branch, but the Democratic controlled legislature of the last 2 years has done nothing. There are no saints in this game.

However, the Dems attack just as fervently as the Repubs. Whoever thinks the Dems don't attack have falled prety to propaganda and excessive emotionality. An objective observer would see that both sides are playing hard ball. However, a lot of comments I have read here are grasping at strings. Post links to hard fact so the rest of us can inform ourselves and make a decision objectively.

Just so you all know, factcheck.org DID do an article on the Democratic Convention. The main point of difference though is that the Democrats didn't OUTRIGHT LIE at their convention. They left that to the Republicans. Between all the half and non-truths last night and the night before there really wasn't much left. Don't take my word for it, you could take the two minutes it would take to actually check the website for
yourself. Wait, I forgot, Republicans don't like to actually be EDUCATED on the issues, because they might have to admit they're wrong! Just spew 9/11... TERRORIST... 9/11 and you've got their vote.

    • Posted By: finsleft10 @ 09/04/2008 5:21:19 PM

I apologize and FactCheck did run an article. I'd like to know if Newsweek posted the Obama article for millions to read about his lies and misleading comments. For clarification, whats the difference between an "OUTRIGHT LIE" and a lie?

Please keep up the insults that republicans are uneducated, gun-toting, toothless, and tobaco chewing rednecks. You're elitist attitude shows.

      • Posted By: michaeledgeh2o @ 09/04/2008 6:19:22 PM

There's that word again, "elitist" The buzzword of the RNC '08. Do you think the idea that everyone in America, no matter what their financial situation is should have access to decent health care without worry of losing their home or filing for bankruptcy is "elitist". How about the fact that the people who pay the highest tax percentage are people making around $40,000 a year. Warren Buffet and Bill Gates pay less tax by percentage that I do. Does that seem fair to you? Does the idea that everyone should pay their fair share seem "elitist"? What about the $12,000,000,000 a month we're spending on a war against a country that never attacked us every month, yet people in America go to bed hungry every night. Is taking care of our own before waging a false war in the name of oil seem "elitist"? Barack Obama hasn't taken a dime from lobbyists during his entire campaign. John McCain's campaign is run by them. The same lobbyists that want to maintain the status quo because it keeps them and all their cronies (the top 1% of the country that control 90% of the country's wealth) flush with cash. I ask you, who is the real "elitist". I like to think of myself as a populist.

    • Posted By: americanpatriot51 @ 09/04/2008 6:12:21 PM

You are out of touch if you think all Republicans are uneducated. Many of us spend a good deal of time researching these issues and you will see that many conservative voices do not always agree with our own leaders. There are just as many uneducated Democrats out there as there are Republicans.

I will reiterate what I mentioned in a previous post - yelling and insulting only diminishes your credibility. Provide us with sources and rational information.

Ignorant comments have been made on both sides and the Obama campaign has lied as well.

Everyone is so polarized it seems that few can look at both sides with an objective eye.

Please. Please. When you call a lady a dog, you are really treading on a derogatory term. Attack dog, means what we call a mama dog when she attacks. Rhymes with witch. Do we want a vice president who is a mama dog whose title rhymes with witch? Especially on foreign visits?

    • Posted By: olderwiser @ 09/04/2008 4:49:15 PM

This is a new dog on the block. The national political block. She made her first speech and really said some insulting things about people. All of her vulnerabilities, known and yet to be discovered are fair game for reciprocity. No whiners, please. She's got it coming. Tit for tat, as they say.

WOW! Two examples...how many times has John McCain reached across the aisle. Go do a news article on that. I'm sure you won't being a shrill for Obama.

    • Posted By: Aggie Independent @ 09/04/2008 6:07:52 PM

But the Dems didn't say he didn't do it. Given McCain's long history inside (an insider perhaps) the beltway, it is hard to see how he could avoid reaching across the aisle and Obama has had a much shorter time frame to do so. The issue is distortion of the truth and fear mongering.

  • Posted By: kellyfish @ 09/04/2008 5:34:19 PM

We are glad to rieterate on taxes, too: if you raise corporate taxes, they in turn raise the costs to the consumers, move out of the country, have less employees, etc--so we all end up paying the taxes!!

    • Posted By: Aggie Independent @ 09/04/2008 6:05:16 PM

Simplistic and businesses are not exactly where all the tax increases will be. The wealthy (those making over $250,000 annually and that is not exactly my definition) will feel the greatest bite, but then again government does more for them in protecting their assets. Business loop holes will be closed, but that is not and will not be what drives jobs out. It is labor costs, meaning we need to invest in education that increases our productivity that require taxes.

I heard Romney last night saying that all the benefits they get in Europe results in double digit unemployment rates. Distrusting politicians to give us accurate information, I thought I'd see for myself. No surprise. Romney was full of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_the_European_Union

Actually, you'd think unemployment rates would be higher because most Europeans are offered a better deal when unemployed. But unemployment rates were anything but double digit except in Slovakia. And I don't normally think of Europe when I think of Slovakia,

To my mind, Europe was taught what freedom was about, from us, because even in 1776, they were getting a clear view of what was going on in the world. Now, we are less free than they because we are fed misinformation and are as closed off from the world, despite all our news shows, as China was in the '50s. Ironic, all the cameras and TVs we have now and yet our people know less of what's going on overseas than people did over 200 years ago without modern electronics.

Romney also said, last night, he rued Obama's coming back to the states with European ideas. When did we start championing ignorance?

    REPEAT THE FOLLOWING:

If you're a minority and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "token hire." If you're a conservative and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "game changer."

If you live in an Urban area and you get a girl pregnant you're a "baby daddy." If you're the same in Alaska you're a "teen father." (Actually, according to your own MySpace page you're an F'n redneck that don't want any kids, but that's too long a phrase for the evil liberal media to take out of context and flog morning noon and night).

Black teen pregnancies? A "crisis" in black America . White teen pregnancies? A "blessed event."

If you grow up in Hawaii you're "exotic." Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you're the quintessential "American story."

Similarly, if you name you kid Barack you're "unpatriotic." Name your kid Track, you're "colorful."

If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you're "reckless." A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick."

If you say that for the "first time in my adult lifetime I'm really proud of my country" it makes you "unfit" to be First Lady. If you are a registered member of a fringe political group that advocates secession that makes you "First Dude."

A DUI from twenty years ago is "old news." A speech given without proper citation from twenty years ago is "relevant information."

And, finally, if you're a man and you decide to run for office despite your wife's reoccurrence of cancer you're a "questionable spouse." If you're a woman and you decide to run for office despite having five kids including a newborn... Well, we don't know what that is 'cause THAT'S NOT A FAIR QUESTION TO ASK.

  • Posted By: medstud @ 09/04/2008 4:26:14 PM

ENOUGH! I'm surprised I ever voted Republican in the first place. All politicians lie, but lately Republicans foam fifth from their mouth. I can't stand the moral views of the Democrats (abortion, gay marriage, anti-Intelligent design inclinations), but Republicans are also a corrupt bunch (an adulterer as a presidential candidate, gun-touting, war-mongers, protectors of the rich). It is clear evidence of the twisted theology of most in the Evangelical movement which thinks the Republicans are any less corrupt then the Democrats just for their anti-abortion stance. Ridiculous!

IF you want to be morally right; STAY HOME.. BUT If you're going to vote, leave out the holier than thou stance unless you wish to be a modern day pharisee; instead vote for who directly affects YOUR life, because whether it be with the abortion/gay marriage loving Democrats or war-mongering/gun touting/ adulterous McCain loving Republicans, you ain't picking between saints.

    • Posted By: bluebloodedLV @ 09/04/2008 4:35:41 PM

Seriously, "abortion - loving Democrats"?? You're sick.

      • Posted By: medstud @ 09/04/2008 5:19:16 PM

Whether by ignorance or spin, in other words, directly or indirectly, Democrats ARE abortion loving. Still, I'm a past Republican, voting Democrat this go around. I can't tolerate another Republican as President JUST so they can over turn Roe vs. Wade. It is not a good vs. evil, as both the Dems and the Reps are morally bankrupt. The moral decision, if any, would be NOT to vote. But being that I'm stuck with one or the other, I might as well pick the one more likely to improve my life.

What is the liberal left wing media so afraid with McCain/Palin---the support of their readers who believe in:

    1. the right to terminate infants

    2. the right for a man to marry a man, a right for a women to marry a woman

    3. the right to the government to go back to a welfare state to institutionalize poverty

    4. the right to organize to drive more jobs overseas

    5. raise all types of taxes and invent new ones to fund a welfare state

    6. legislate a society of spares, not pairs

    7. Retreat with trade barriers to lose more jobs

    8. Retreat to our homeland and not properly defend ourselves overseas where the terrorists are based.

All of these programs seem to institutionalize the Democrats,

but these policies seem like the economic and social equivalents of Darwin Awards.

    • Posted By: Aggie Independent @ 09/04/2008 4:16:43 PM

Okay Bammer; 1. How many severly damaged unwanted infants did you adopt last year? 2. Why do you care about other adults? It probably improves your odds. 3 Who reduced welfare roles last time? Hint it wasn't Bush. 4. That has happened more under your boy's watch than anyone else's, though it could be argued it is an economic evolution that has littel to do with politics. 5. Did you read the article about who's tax plan benefits who? 6. I don't even know what this means. 7. see #4 8. I have not seen anyone propose this. Rather the disagreement is about where and who to fight. GWB holds hands with the leader of the country that sponors more terror and terrorist than any other and short changes the military effort where the leader of the movement was known to be.

You need to make an arguement rather than very childish insults. BTW I oppose abortion at a personal level, but believe that I don't have the God like moral authority over others to make that choice for them, unless I am willing to provide an alternative. That is really what bothers me about this issue. You God fearing, know the will of God folks, seem to lose interest in these kids about the time they are born and only get interested again when you want to lock them away.

Talk about cut and paste {wildlifeusa}. Lets not forget about half of those bills you list (oddly only by date) McCain opposed because he support another bill he thought was better and more fair...like with GI education grants etc. Many of these bills then passed. Those that passed in their orignal and opposed form McCain did oppose BECAUSE HE HAS THE GUTS TO STAND FOR WHAT IS RIGHT DESPITE THE POLITICAL BACKLASH FROM UNIFORMED PEOPLE. Obama makes a vote to avoid political problems....McCain trys to get the best bill passed sometimes he can't becuase we have a democracy of elected people...in those cases he lost....but still can go home saying he supported a better bill in his mind. But people like wildlifeusa just take their little talking points.....well that settles it I am now a McCain supporter. I can't take this junk anymore from far left tape players like wildlifeusa.

    • Posted By: treetracker @ 09/04/2008 5:09:54 PM

zeye54 - McCain DID NOT SUPPORT the Gi Bill - he was opposed to it and he skipped the vote - fortunately it passed. Has the guts to stand for what is right? Okay - but which is it - he opposes torture but doesn't support the bill that would require everyone to follow the Army Field Manual opposing torture? Or, he opposes tax breaks for the very rich in time of war, but now claims he suppots them? Or, the one I just mentioned where he supports the troops, but opposes Webb's bill for them? Time to get out there and do a little reading on the "Internets" to see what the real facts are before you spout the Republican talking points...you just make yourself look foolish.

Um! Yes the Republicans had complete control from 1992 to 2007 (the election of 2006 did not turn over control until 2007) oh yes in that period due to a death the dems did have control for 2 months before 2007.

"amounts to a tax cut for most people." What a joke. Any moron with an IQ above 20 knows that the tax INCREASES against those making 250k and above (mostly businesses) are going to be passed along to the consumer amounting to a veiled tax increase for EVERYONE! Nice job of parroting the Obama playbook lines. Too bad Obama's points are not true.

    • Posted By: stryk55 @ 09/04/2008 3:54:13 PM

As opposed to tax cuts for corporations and wealthier individuals? Not likely that would help. This "trickle-down" economic theory is baffling, since the goal of most corporations is to reduce overhead and increase revenues...what incentive is there for them to "pass on the savings" to the consumer? None! Profit feed profit, and the more profit that is realized by tax cuts only helps the businesses, not the people on the bottom!

So giving the breaks to the wealthiest and businesses makes any more sense? This "trickle-down" theory of economics is baffling; what incentive does a business or corporation have to pass on reduced overhead costs to the consumer? Their tax breaks only serve to reduce their overhead and increase their profits! Their loyalties lie with the shareholders, not the person at the bottom of this "trickle"!
