The Tax thing with Obama and his supporter; Newsweek is the great mystery of this election. Over 80% of small business (*which I know in fairness) pays taxes as a sole proprietor...most make over 250K but that is not what these people walk home with they must reinvest ect. many make 30% of what "net" they pay tax on. Even if he taxes no one else (which I don't buy) this would be devastating. Also all your retirement funds....if they get nailled with a tax increase because they make so much...guess who's fees will go up and savings will be affected...yours!!!!! I could go on and do the work newsweek did not but that would be pointless. Lets put all that aside...Think with commonsense: if he is going to give us all this stuff with the goverment how will he pay for it....tax the rich 80% no no no we will get hit to....even if he did nail the rich like this do you think they won't pass that on to us????

"Obama worked with Sen. Tom Coburn, an Oklahoma Republican" The Bill had 47 Sponsors and "Passed/agreed to in Senate: Passed Senate with an amendment by Unanimous Consent" Wow, he had to fight hard to push this one through the Senate. Really, twisted those arms. Tell us one time when he went AGAINST his party's position and help get something passed.

Nice one. Newsweek probably knew this, but wanted to make some "spin" of its own with their article. What say you "Newsweak"?

I thought this was going to be a real fact check, analyzing all claims made by all candidates. What I found, instead, was a one-sided rebuttal, written by an Obama lover, in favor of Obama. Nice job on a creative headline. Too bad the content is a joke.

I don't understand how people working for Newsweek, NBC, MSNBC, etc. can call themselves journalists with a straight face. I'm guessing they'll do what they're told to keep a paycheck. How embarassing for them, I really feel sorry for them.

This is again the same old attack and fear we have heard for over 8 years, even written by a Bush speech writer. Given she does it better than most, it demonstrates a belief that the American public is stupid and easily manipulated. Insulting as that sounds, if they are successful after the average family's experience over the past 8 years we deserve it and I will join their ranks as a social Darwinist. If the average person in this country can't see through this stuff by now, they never will.

Mccain has also consistently refused to vote for measures designed to help alternative energy businesses. Sticking a few wind turbines in an ad and calling for off shore drilling does not amount to supporting a responsible energy policy.

I am sure Newsweek did one of these pieces about the DNC......oh wait. I found many, many more factual inaccuracies in the Obama Biden speeches and DNC then at the RNC thus far and I consider myself to be a well informed (but not left media driven) Hillary supporter leaning towards barrack (AT LEAST i USED TO). Some of the RNC spin sited here is contradicted by a version of spin of its own. Well the far left will be the far left...I am questioning wether I should consider myself a part of it (the left) anymore. Comments I read on this blog and even hear on TV is so bias with no intention of informing people....only to protray a viewpoint. It is sad really. Just read {wildlifeusa} comment; talk about uninformed..this person is like a peon following the orders and talking points of all the nuts and far left wing bias in the meida.. well just keep marching on wildlifeusa...you are the reason I may have to vote McCain Palin this fall. I can swallow my pride; can you swallow yours and consider a nonbias viewpoint.

Wow, Republican lies and smears. And now they added a woman to their club. So much for the "grand" old party...

Lies and slander from the right (or wannabe right... Lieberman), what else is new?

The religiouis right wing are war mongers!! they won' hesitate to send you to Iraq or Iran.

    This is MC cain record!!

That is correct R.Donald Snyder We are a Military Family and here is what McCain did to his own men.

McCain votes AGAINST our combat troops ...

5/2008: McCain voted AGAINST the Webb GI Bill.
9/2007: McCain voted AGAINST bill to minimize periods of time between deployment of units sent to Iraq.

5/2006: McCain voted AGAINST $20 Million to VA for health care facilities.

4/2006: McCain voted AGAINST $430,000,000 to VA for Medical Services.

3/2006: McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet-medical services $1.5 billion in FY2007.

3/2004: McCain voted AGAINST increasing Vet-medical care by $1.8 billion. 10/2003:
McCain voted to TABLE an amendment for $322,000,000 for safety equipment for USforces. "Table"= vote never hits floor. 10/2003: McCain voted to TABLE a vote for $1 Billion for National Guard and Reserve Equipment in Iraq dueto:shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, & tactical vests. Here's your test MSM -- will YOU all inform the viewers/voters of McCain's ANTI-MILITARY voting record? c. proffit, Lexington, Ky. (Sent Friday,July 18, 2008 4:08

    REPEAT THE FOLLOWING:

If you're a minority and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "token hire." If you're a conservative and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a "game changer."

If you live in an Urban area and you get a girl pregnant you're a "baby daddy." If you're the same in Alaska you're a "teen father." (Actually, according to your own MySpace page you're an F'n redneck that don't want any kids, but that's too long a phrase for the evil liberal media to take out of context and flog morning noon and night).

Black teen pregnancies? A "crisis" in black America . White teen pregnancies? A "blessed event."

If you grow up in Hawaii you're "exotic." Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, you're the quintessential "American story."

Similarly, if you name you kid Barack you're "unpatriotic." Name your kid Track, you're "colorful."

If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you're "reckless." A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick."

If you say that for the "first time in my adult lifetime I'm really proud of my country" it makes you "unfit" to be First Lady. If you are a registered member of a fringe political group that advocates secession that makes you "First Dude."

A DUI from twenty years ago is "old news." A speech given without proper citation from twenty years ago is "relevant information."

And, finally, if you're a man and you decide to run for office despite your wife's reoccurrence of cancer you're a "questionable spouse." If you're a woman and you decide to run for office despite having five kids including a newborn... Well, we don't know what that is 'cause THAT'S NOT A FAIR QUESTION TO ASK.

THIS IS VERY DISTURBING??? DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE BUSH WILL INVITE YOU TO HIS
100 000 ACRE RANCH IN PARAGUAY WHEN THIS COUNTRY COLLAPES??
personal, individual, independent life begins at birth. Until that event, the fetus is not an independent person. It is physically attached to an independent, self-viable human being in order to sustain it. The independent and viable human being, the mother, with all her rights as a citizen in a free society, has the right to make decisions regarding her own body and its processes, including pregnancy. Until the fetus is viable and able to sustain independent life as an individual, the decision on its termination rests with the mother. That is just.
That is the wisdom of the law of this land, The United States of America, in Roe v. Wade. The misrepresentations and theological quotes do not belong in the forum of society based on reason and not on falsehoods or ancient and foreign superstitious doctrine. As in all other issues, the Republicans and conservative intend on destroying America with foreign influences, be they financial, as in the alliances with non American plutocrats from communist China to the princes of the saoudi royal family. The American economy can shrivel and die as far as they're concerned, especially the labor unions whom the Republican party has persecuted for over a century, as long as the global economy and every person with anything less than unshakably stalwart and self-perpetuating independent wealth has been enslaved. That is the elitism they the Republicans embrace and solely represent.
They don't care a thing about this country, except that it can be sucked dry. As the fascists did in the Republics of Germany, Spain, Italy, and Japan. These antiAmerican movements are the model for this "neo"conservative Republican party. Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan were worse for America than Lenin or Stalin, because they were able to do effect their corruption of this country from the inside. bush is a continuation of this effort for moral, economic, political, governmental decay. Fred Thompson, the professional liar, the professional fraud, the mal-actor. Accused others of feeling the need to apologize for America. That is a lie. The liberals ad progressives feel no need to apologize for America. The conservatives and Republicans are not America. They are liars and traitors and desire to destroy America. It is the conservatives and Republicans and Fred Thompson, if they have any shred of decency or shame left in them, to apologize and answer for being the enemies of a free and prosperous America. Rev. Jeremiah Wright's damnation was misplaced. Every freedom-loving patriotic American should condemn the conservatives and their insurrectionist party, the Republican party. to the hottest, darkest and foulest corner of any hell that might exist.

RUDY'S BEST LINE WAS !! OBAMA FLIP FLOPS SO MUCH IF I WERE JOE BIDEN I'D GET THAT V.P. THING IN WRITING ! lmfao

    • Posted By: stars35 @ 09/04/2008 3:05:07 PM

Oh, yea but you forget to mention McCain's flip flops. First, he was against GWBs so called tax cuts but then now he strongly supports them. Then he was against offshore drilling and now he supports it when he sees that the public is beginning to support the idea. If you want a president who openly jokes about bombing Iran then go right ahead, but if we actually do get into such a conflict I guess you can also take partial blame for helping to put such a person in the white house who apparently doesn't get it!

  • Posted By: jlivesay @ 09/04/2008 2:53:13 PM

Of course the GOP wants to tell lies; it has been doing so well at it these past 8 years. The Swiftboat crap, the lies about Kerry's war record, Max Cleland's shameful treatment. Sad that McShame did not become a moderate DEM; at one time I actually thought he was OK, and I am a staunch DEM! Oh yeah, remember how is OWN PARTY treated HIM! He has become yet another greedy Republican hell-bent on HIS future in the record book, certainly not the people of the USA as he "proclaims" - yech

ENOUGH ALREADY with the ???bitter??? comment

About Obama???s ???bitter??? comment. It was totally misunderstood from the beginning. The media heard it and did NOT understand what Obama was saying as often happens when you hear only part of something.

The group he was talking to in San Francisco understood what he was saying. Once the media ran with it, all Obama could do was distance himself

What Obama was trying to say to people was this:

Referring to the Upper Midwest region:

You had your jobs, your pensions, your health care, your livelihoods ripped away from you. So the things you have left (your most valued possessions): your faith your families, your guns (because you???re a hunting community) your friends, you don???t want to have them taken from you as well so you hold tight to those. Holding on to these valued things are what helps get us through the tough times.

WHAT HE WAS REFERRING TO WERE THE FIRST AND SECOND AMMENDMENTS OF THE CONSTITUTION. THE AMMENDMENTS THAT REFER TO ???FREEDOM OF RELIGION??? AND ???THE RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS.??? HE WAS SHOWING THAT HE FEELS THE PLIGHT OF THOSE IN THIS SITUATION. HE WAS SAYING WHEN YOU LOSE EVERYTHING ELSE, YOU HAVE THOSE BECAUSE THEY ARE GUARANTEED TO YOU AND THEY CANNOT BE TAKEN AWAY.

He was sympathizing with them and his comments were taken the wrong way by the MSM and that was the story from that point on, the misinterpreted story. And now the REPUBLICANS ARE TRYING TO INSTILL MORE HATE WITH IT

Obama is the one who has suffered here just because he sympathized with them and the MEDIA GOT IT WRONG.

The truth about this should be known.

    More stinking republican lies.

How deceitful do the the republicans have to become before their supporters say enough?

  • Posted By: patrickwjones @ 09/04/2008 1:54:36 PM

Newsweek has a long, long history of bias towards the Republican party....such that when stories are printed that may be neutral or even correct towards the party, they are actively dismissed. Newsweek needs to continue to print arguments from both parties for their candidates and stay away from editorializing, in order to gain respect as a provocative but independent magazine...this can not be done in the current
environment or with the current management in place...If Newsweek were a stock traded under its own name it would be classified as a "penny stock" referring to the value it rightfully deserves!

I disagree. Sarah Palin seems, like many of the prominent Republicans to lack the ability to be truthful.
I'd like to say she'd make a great Vice President, but Bush and Cheney have taught that dishonesty is a problem. Her speech was full of so many lies that it is difficult to accept the notion that she might represent any change at all.
She's a more skilled speaker than McCain obviously, but when the game is to just hurl false allegations at your opponent, that isn't saying much.

I've read enough about Sarah Palin to know that she was a last minute pick; however, she has turned out to be the type of campaigner Republicans seem to prefer-attack dog. I don't mind truthful attacks. I really don't. I understand when Obama's experience is questioned, but all the experience in the world won't get us out of this mess. It's going to take a person who is ready to look objectively at our problems and find the best way to fix them. All the I love America in the world and demonizing of the opposition gets us no where. When all the Republicans seem to be able to do is launch untruthful attacks, it makes me wonder if they have any ideas beyond drill everywhere or we must have victory in Iraq. Okay, but what's the plan? What about the economy? What about our stature on the world stage? What's your plan for evaluating and implementing alternative energy sources? We get it-you want to win, but tell us why you should?
