John McCain never got anything right. came in thrid to last in flight class, crashed two or more planes, cracked under pressure in N. viet nam, voted against MLK holiday, supported an illegal war that killed thousands of good american citizens, to please george bush's big ego. this old dude and the beauty queen would ruin this country furthet than it is now.

I would love to see you go to a V.A. Hospital and talk about how the people who got shot down, injured, or taken as a prisoner of war "cracked under pressure" and other such idiotic statements.

Then why did McCain vote every single time against benefits for veterans?

Giulianni hit the nail right on the proverbial head last night. You can sum up Obamas Husseins experience in 2 words:One English, the other Spanish:None!!Nada!! ANd not even the Democrats dispute that

I know I live in one of the reddest counties of a red state. I work with people that are born republicans even though they can???t afford to be republicans. But when I heard a discussion this morning I felt like I am living in a different reality. People are seriously considering that comparison between Palin and Obama is a realistic and worthwhile discussion. Am I insane? I???m starting to feel like I am the only one that thinks this is laughable. Editor of the Harvard Law Review versus Beauty Queen? Am I alone in thinking we need an exceptional person for the job of President of the United States of America? Am I the only soul in my little redneck of the woods that sees the problem with the ???Regular Guy with whom you???d want to have a beer??? is what you need in a candidate? This is what???s next, ???Hockey Mom???? What then in four years, ???Convenience Store Cashier that gives you a penny????

Can someone please tell me if it???s just that I live and work among die-hard conservatives that drank the Kool-Aid or confirm that I???ve lost my mind?

You are not insane....this comparison is insane!!!! Simply another attempt at shifting the focus from the Republican candidtae and real issues to imature arguments. Can't anyone remember how the Republican machine used gay mariiage as a devisive tool, as well as a tool to motivate the religious right to get out and vote. This selection of Palin was a manipulative move and people are all falling into the trap that the repubs were hoping they would. Wake up....."the US is better than this"

It wasn't the McCain camp that makes the issue of experience dissappear, it was the Obama's and the media during the primary. Back then, knowing that they couldn't win the experience debates with Hillary, they claimes that experience doesn't matter and that judgement is key. But, did the media ever ask for the bases of that judgement? Know!. Experience beget Character and, Character begets Judgement. One can not lack experience but claims they have judgement; Judgement based on what? -- Onthe way the political wind is blowing at the time?, maybe on their gut feelings or, maybe because they believed they were the one they world as be waiting for. Yeap, that must be it.

I am 44 yrs old, have always voted straight democratic party line, but not this year. Hillary was my girl and since Howard Dean and the gangs (Edward Kennedy, John Kerry, Nancy Polusi and Harry Reed) the epidemy of losers decided they want their very own manchorian candidate in Obama, I am becoming an independent and voting for John Sydney McCain this year for the President of the United States Of America.

I don't know how a "true" Hillary supporter can back Palin after she called Hillary a whiner and John McCain said that Chelsea Clinton's father was Janet Reno. Plus, Hillary wants health care. John McCain and Palin want to tell us women what to do with our bodies. Hillary is concerned about Global Warming. Palin shoots animals from helicopters and refuses to admit Global Warming is man made. Why don't you put a list on one side of the paper of Hillary's platform ideas and Sarah's on the other side. You MIGHT find one in common--they are both women.
I supported Hillary, and you ma'am , are no Hillary supporter.

I think the article is right on. John McCain is a big joke!

It is funny how many comments compare Palin to Obama.
It is because comparing McCain to Obama is like comparing a man to a boy

Even I have more experience than Obama. I was a squad leader in the military. Obama was neither a leader nor in the military. I was a branch manager in a large government Directorate. Obama was neither a manager, nor worked for for any large (or small) organization for that matter. I was a supervisor for several offices with the SSA. Obama was never even a supervisor in his lifetime. Sarah Palin has far more executive experience than either Obama or his runinning mate, Biden. Obam is an empty suit - a zero if you will. Lots on the outside, but nothing on the inside. And the only time Biden has his foot out of his mouth is when he's changing feet. Bottom line - I have more experience at managing and making execujtive decisions than either Obama or Biden. Now comes the latest news that Obama had a Saudi Arabian muslim as a mentor when he was 25. Wake up and get it right you fools!

    This article is pathetic.
The simple fact is that Obama's experience is roughly equivalent to Palin's. You make the point that he has more national attention - and time talking to the media - than she does. But that is not "experience." It may make you more comfortable with Obama, in spite of his inexperience, but it doesn't mean that he somehow magically has that experience.

The statement that she has more executive experience is both true and important. I've been a CEO running companies for many years and as a result I have gained a clear understanding of what it means to be the one who is ultimately responsible for decisions. It is very different from any other role.

I am uncomfortable with both Obama and Palin's level of experience. It's scary. But in the end they both have approximately the same level - even if one is more exposed than the other - and the experience that Palin has is more relevant. The key point is that while she may be one heartbeat away from the presidency he is zero heartbeats away.

Do you have a higher degree? Did you have credentials, or was your being CEO taking a chance?

After reading this article, I am reminded why I distrust the media as much as I do. The purpose of the national media is to provide unbiased information to the people of the nation, which will allow them to then decide which candidate, or party to support. It appears that this writer has his own agenda which he is trying to sell to me. His complaints are echoed by others in the media who rant and rave when ever any of the candidates do not immediately jump to comply with directions given them by the media, ie. an interview at any time we ask, on any subject we wish. I guess I can only wish for the day when I will be able to just get the facts, and not some writers personal opinion.

szecola: "I don't support Palin's social ideas, but she has accomplished more in a year than Obama has accomplished in a lifetime. "
    ----------------------------------------------------------

What, exactly has she accomplished, other than squeezing earmark money out of Washington of the sort that McCain rails against and helping Sen. Ted Stevens on his failed "Bridge to Nowhere" project?

One of the most disturbing of her extremist beliefs is her denial that global warming is being caused by human activity. It's ironic that the day she was giving her big acceptance speech, scientists were shocked to see a 19-square-mile ice shelf break away from the Arctic ice pack and float out to sea. We may be reaching a "tipping point" where the warming becomes irreversible and begins accelerating at an ever-increasing rate. Do we really need an antiscience know-nothing like Palin as VP? And McCain claims to take global warming seriously. It looks like he's doing another flip-flop on that issue as well. (Thomas Friedman now says that Obama is the only candidate left who takes the environmental problems seriously).

I have an idea- why doesn't the media begin reporting actual facts, news and information and let the American people make up their own minds? I see a vicious smear campain on one side and a stream of relentless worship on the other - do you really feel THAT qualified to manipulate voters and decide the outcome of an election to determine the leader of this great nation in such a crucial time? That is what your are doing with your one-sided, biased 'reporting'. I don't really care about your opinion, I don't think anyone else does either. But when you report your opinion as if it were the news, that is inexcusable, misleading to the American people and an insult to your profession. You all should take a hard look at yourselves- you should NOT get to choose our president by manipulating voters into thinking that your opinions are news and it is the worst kind of egotism that would make you think it is for our own good. If you are so sure you know what is best for us, why don't you run yourselves and expose your families to the scrutiny, slander and false accusations that Sarah Palin now has to deal with? No wait...I guess you would run on the Dem side so you wouldn't have to worry about it. You (the media) should be ashamed of yourselves and this disgraceful turn that has taken journalism from a proud tradition of facts, unbiased reporting and an unflinching prusuit of truth into a popularity contest. Shame on you.

OBAMA HAS A LAW DEGREE FROM HARVARD!!! Palin has a Bachelor's Degree from Idaho in Journalism. She would not be able to apply for a position that calls for an MBA regardless of experience. With a law degree you are taught about the workings of our government and the constitution. You learn about the significance of teh supreme court, how it works, and the views of various justices over time. You are also trained, in law school, to fully analyze every question from all aspects, including ones that are not your own. In addition, you are trained to research issues before you speak.

Palin is a blank slate, who is being trained by Bush's Administration on politics. Her speech was written by Bush and McCain officials. Many statements were inaccurate and skewed, showing that she is allowing Bush's and McCain's views to paint the picture of who she is. She had no exposure to Obama, Biden or Michelle before last week, yet knows the history of what Obama has done in the Senate and Illinois. At least she feels she knows enough to make snide, sarcastic and rude comments...which are based on the speech writers and her tutor's slanted information. SHAME ON HER FOR ALLOWING HERSELF TO BE A PUPPET TO THE REPUBLICAN CAMPAIGN AGENDA. Oh yeah, about patriotism, of which she spoke so highly...she supports Alaska succeeding from the same union of which she wants to be VP.

I ask america please do not put these two in office. one was not even born on american soil, the other has no experince, No not Barack, its grandpa John and the beauty queen

Shouldn't the comparison be Palin vs Biden, not Palin vs Obama or Biden vs McCain?

  • Posted By: dmspeech @ 09/04/2008 10:37:34 AM

It is fantastic that the majority of readers of this article have received their Palin talking points. I hope you will keep us apprised of them daily. I always like to start my day with a laugh.
The problem is that this is no laughing matter. Governor Palin wanted to ban numerous classic books while she was mayor. When the librarian refused, Palin attempted to have her removed. When an adminstrator refused to fire her ex-brother in law, she had him removed. Is this a pattern? She is agains choice for women. Does she have a right to say what I do with my body? She claims that energy is important and we must drill, baby, drill. All this while she is in the pocket of the oil companies. She said she opposed the bridge to nowhere. This is not true. She said she opposed earmarks but accepted $27 million dollars for a town of 7,000 (at the time). She states that she was in charge of the National Guard of Alaska. Bush took that responsibility away from the governors a long time ago.
When people start talking about Obama's lack of experience compared to hers it is laughable. He went undergraduate school at Columbia and law school at Harvard. He has travelled extensively. He has been questioned and vetted by the media and Hillary and Bill Clinton. He has served in the Senate. No, he has not been a governor. I guess that's a good criteria for President. After all, George Bush was a governor and look where we are nowl

Jonathan, have you ever managed anything? It takes years and scores of managerial challenges to understand and appreciate what it takes to get things done. The Democrats have evolved towards being a party of words, not accomplishments. I don't support Palin's social ideas, but she has accomplished more in a year than Obama has accomplished in a lifetime. The folks who think otherwise ought to consider their own experience first.

    • Posted By: dwjam1 @ 09/04/2008 10:37:27 AM

Well you better check your facts. I will tell you like I tell my college students, nothing bugs me more when someone is dictating to others and do not have the facts - Please research before you run off with what you heard from others. You sound stupid , you really do.

      Dear szecola,
From a previous poster: "Barack Obama graduated from Columbia University. He graduated from Harvard Law School magna *** laude. He was elected President of the Harvard Law Review a highly prestigious position. He organized the largest and most successful voter registration drive in the history of Chicago one of our largest and most storied cities. He served as an Illinois State Senator for 8 years. He has served as a US Senator for four years. He has been able to get ethics reform through in the Illinois State Senate and the US Senate although in both houses he was warned that it woul never happen. He joined with Senator Luger to get a Nuclear Proliferation bill passed and signed into law. He deftly used the amendment process in the US Senate to get legislation passed to help veterans gain better access to health care and shelter. He was the Keynote Speaker at the Democratic National Convention. He has been received by world leaders and has spoken before them under the glaring spotlight of the National and International media. He went toe to toe with the powerful juggernaut Clinton machine and was able still to garner their support at the DNC convention. He put on one of the most successful conventions of all time. He has run a campaign that pundits will study and write about for years to come. He has done the impossible by attracting 18 million votes from parts of the country that have rarely voted Democratic much less voted for a person of color." My add: This is just the tip of the iceberg (no pun intended).
