iT's kind of Funny that a devout shill like Jonathan Alter for all Liberals and Oboma 08 .
Never mentiomed Obama has less Decision making background than does Palin . A lot less .
First off there are thousands of Foreign Affairs advisers running from the State and Defense Dept , CIA and former advisers too both parties .Remember Clinton brough in a Republican named Richard Cohn .
Gates is still around as is the CIA CHIEF BOTH WINNERS AT IS GENERAL DAVID PETRAEUS !

Oh please... keeping excusing the inexperience of Obama.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/04/2008 6:11:11 AM

Aren't you excusing the inexperience of Palin?
Obama has been in the US Senate longer than she has been state government. I think some people have been running their 2008 presidential campaign longer than she has been in state government.

Clearly Obama was in state government longer than she was, and she has NO federal government experience.

Yet you discount all of Obama's experience while making a big deal about the experience she has.
I know, I know. She was a governer, and that's different. Well based on that logic, McCain has NO experience, and yet that contradicts the rhetoric of the Republican party.

      So which is it?!

It is evidence that she, herself, knows she lacks experience because she chose to compare her experience, as Mayor of a small town, to Obama's 3 years community organizing experience that he had, before graduating from Harvard, rather than to his work in the Illinois state Senate..
Either way, it seems like you are the one making excuses.

Jonathan Alter is to the left what Sean Hannity is to the right: predictable, un-intellectual and biased up the wazzoo... To say as all the Obama Media sycophants do that Palin is flawed because she has no experience to be vice president while supporting Obama who doesn't have any himself - but it running for president, is ignorant and biased. After he threw Don Imus under the bus, I realized we were looking at a man with zero principles.

You would do well to learn the difference between experience and intellectually involved/competent. Two different things. Palin fails both tests. Ahhhh, but as that irrascible, ultra-right-wing-conservative Pat Buchanan bellowed: "Finally, one of us is on the ticket!" Frightening.

  • Posted By: Mooglestone @ 09/04/2008 2:47:25 AM

Let me get this straight, Mr. Alter. Obama's qualifications for president are that he "won 18 million votes, faced countless tough interviews and emerged with a reputation for fluency in discussing affairs of state." By that definition, Obama was not qualified to run when he announced that he was running. Only in the act of running did he become qualified. If that's not circular logic I don't know what is.

    • Posted By: ARAD10K @ 09/04/2008 4:25:29 AM

I don't think that was the argument; it has to do with having proven that he actually knows something about the issues related to this high office. Palin, after all, stated that she actually hadn't thought all that much about Iraq because she's so "busy" with state issues.

Not a circular argument; try a course in Logic 101, maybe.

Relying on the media to inform the public always makes me less than confident. There is something not quite right about all of this; experience suggests that these righteous pols are usually hiding something; perhaps we'll get lucky and stumble upon that information before it's too late. One thing is sure, per med stats, McCain's past history puts him at likely fatality within the next 4 years (that's without the return or his cancer); Sarah Palin as President is a pretty predictable event if the Republicans prevail in this election. In which case, we are pretty much toast as a nation.

MAINSTREAM MEDIA HAS SLID INTO THE SWAMP

The Dems and Reps are left to sell their leaders to America.

Mr. Alter just admit you and obermann(aka bath tub boy) are just shills for the left. And honestly its fine with me. Just admit it! Own up to it. Admit getting talking points from from the left. What you guys have done to Sarah Palin and her family is beyond disgrace. But it figures. Whenever the lefties are faced with some facts that they may be wrong, they always go "we have to clude in the stupid"! Trust me folks, the elite left think your a bunch of dumb hicks! Tell Mr.Alter, do some research and write about Obama's leadership in the senate! The will be a very short article. Compare to John McCain. I rather has the inexperience at the bottom of the ticket.

The past few days I've been feeling as though I am living in a parallel universe in which the old Chauncey Gardener character of "Being There" stepped off the screen in the form of Sarah Palin, who one week ago had not yet even been interviewed by the McCain campaign, yet alone "discovered" as the answer to the Right. Scary stuff to anyone with an IQ over 90 and a serious interest in the future of our our country. Thanks Jonathan, for your thoughtful analysis that helps to keep us sane in times like these.

The last few days --- and especially Palin's really distateful speech tonight --- have made me feel as though I am living in a parallel universe, one where the old Chauncey Gardner character of "Being There" jumped off the screen and came to life in the body of an Alaskan governor who one mere week ago had not yet even been interviewed by the McCain campaign! . Keep up your sharp analysis, Jonathan. we count on you!

And, frankly, wasn't Obama the lucky sacrificial pig put up against the heavily favored Ryan before the sex tapes came out? WTF does a "community organizer" do anyways other than the bidding of the Daley Machine?

  • Posted By: jem12475 @ 09/04/2008 12:03:48 AM

If you see no need to have any control of the money you work so hard for, then by all means vote for Obama.

Buddy your boy "George Bush" spends 6 billion a month on a war that was not needed, And now you wanna talk about wasteful spending. Slknight needs to stf up

    • Posted By: slknight @ 09/04/2008 1:51:36 AM

Enter Your Comment oh testy, testy, you are obviously not one to have any kind of dialog with. If you want to change my mind or make me see your point of view telling me to stf up is definatly not the right approach.

I remember why I stopped subscribing to Newsweek. At one point they actually reported news. Now they just sort of wang something together to fit their political ideology. Alter's a prime case in point. I've never seen a bigger Obama shill in my life. He wailed against Hillary. He's wailed against McCain. He's wailing against Palin. God forbid someone derail "The One." Quite frankly, getting elected to state governor means something.

Qualified? I'm sorry but anyone who thinks the only way to run this country is to raise taxes is automatically unqualified in my book. All that does is make government bigger and people more dependant on that government. Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air. She showed through her speech that the government is supposed to be a servant of the people not the other way around. I want my children to inherit a nation that cares about its people not one that tries to take control of all aspects of the lives of its people. Obama needs to get in touch with reality and realize you don't fix money problems with more money you fix them by avoiding frivolous spending. If you see no need to have any control of the money you work so hard for, then by all means vote for Obama.

    • Posted By: Nor-Cal for Obama @ 09/04/2008 12:02:38 AM

Your ignorance is showing. Obama's tax plan will lower taxes for 95.3 percent of today's American Families. Your old talking points will work no longer. The country has educated itself for more then can be said for you.

Enter Your Comment I'm sorry you must be using the new estimation math they are teaching in the schools today. Now thats ignorance. More spending means more taxes for all of us,

      • Posted By: JAWLee @ 09/04/2008 12:17:26 AM

How is Obama going to lower taxes and support all of his government programs? Where is the money going to come from? Oh yeah...they money tree!

Go deal with our $9.3trillion debt ($4.8trillion) created by the current administration. What the formula for balance sheets? Oh! that's right it has something to do with income and expense. What are the government source of income and what are those expenses?

Hey! Palin got me going on that sarcasm thing. Probably not a good thing for discourse.

      • Posted By: slknight @ 09/04/2008 1:33:08 AM

Oh I forgot our President is the only one in our government spending money not our earmark happy congress, duh!

  • Posted By: jonnyooh @ 09/04/2008 1:37:20 AM

I don't understand why Republicans are still getting the moron vote. Didn't they learn anything from the Bush debacle? Did they enjoy getting their pockets picked by Halliburton and other contractors in Iraq? Morons! At least they're the ones who will be choosing between groceries and gasoline if McCrook gets elected.

    Enough about Palin's' pregnant daughter:

We need to know if Governor Palin used her power as Governor
of Alaska to settle a personal score by putting pressure
on the safety commissioner to fire her brother in law
a police officer, who happened to be in a custody dispute with her sister.
If her brother in law was threatening her family, why didn???t she make
a police report instead of using her powers to try and get him fired??

Is it because the cagey Governor knows a police report
would not get him fired and drain his financial resources to the point where he
couldn???t pay his legal bills to sustain his custody suit?????
We need to know NOW-not after the election.

grasping, that is all I can say. Grasping. Here is the news; Gov. Palin is the Vice President candidate, nothing more. All this discussion about a "heartbeat away" is complete age discrimination period. I still think this election is Obama's to lose and not McCain's to win
