"Obama won 18 million votes, faced countless tough interviews and emerged with a reputation for fluency in discussing affairs of state" Mr. Alter do you seriously consider that proof of Obama's foreign policy credentials? The fact that Obama has been running for presidency for 3 of his 4 years in the senate is evidently the benchmark for foreign policy experience. All those tough interviews must have been really brutal especially when the media has refused to ask specifics of Obama. Instead they would rather focus on Palin's family. You get paid to write this drivel?

jkm17928 - you must have missed all or part of the last 18 months. I still know nothing of Sarah Palin - nothing new from tonight, nothing that refutes the Alaskan newspapers. That information comes from those Sunday morning interviews - I am sure she will do Fox, then ABC, then CNN, then CBS, and then NBC.

OBWan...feel free to educate me on the specifics of Obama's foreign policy that I must have missed in Obama's steep learning curve these past 18 months. Lemme guess...go on a world tour, apologize for America, admit we are a force for evil in the world, and agree to negotiate with people that want to kill us and have no regard for our ideals or system of government.

    GET THE Experience FACTS STRAIT!

Sarah Palin : Mayor of a small town, Alaska Governor.

    Obama :
Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored close to 600 bills in the 109th and 110th Congress. Senator Obama has sponsored or co-sponsored almost 20 bills that have become LAW since he joined the Senate in 2005. Senator Obama has also introduced amendments to over 50 bills, of which 16 were adopted by the Senate. A few Obama successes: (1) Lugar-Obama legislation that has helped decrease the threat of old nuclear, biological, and chemical weapon in the former Soviet Union; (2) the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 which Obama co-authored and that led to www.USAspending.gov, which keeps Americans better informed on government spending. Obama was also responsible for The Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors Act, which passed in July of 2007 and addressed the pathetic and grotesque treatment received by Veterans under the Bush. Obama's bill was responsible for the largest increase in veterans benefits in the 77 year history of the VA.

And that doesn't include his 8 years in the Illinois State Senate from 1996-2004.

Yes, he worked as a community organizer from 1985-1988, a position which paid him only $13,000, but which has had a lasting impact on him, as evidenced by the comprehensive "bottom up" campaign he's running.

    • Posted By: JAWLee @ 09/04/2008 12:24:01 AM

Obama 'put his name' on a bill. That doesn't mean that he wrote it or even knew about it's details. Also...I don't see how you can run a campaign from 'the bottom up' with over 500 million dollars. That is a massive amount of money. and if he wants to put his money where his mouth is...he should donate it to one of his government programs. He won't. He will spend it all and ask for more.
Did you mean to say, "bottoms up" campaign?

    • Posted By: shiningcity @ 09/04/2008 12:21:00 AM

Nor CAL -- Here are your facts : Palin manages 24,000 state employees and balances (with a surplus) an $11 Billion dollar budget vs. taught "Constitutional Law"

You make a great pitch for Obama as VP unfortuately those monumental accomplishments you mention don't quite match the laundry list John McCain brings to the table -- For example -- I don't think the 143 days in the Senate match the 26 years in the senate too well -- not sure what "Foreign Policy Expertise" was garnered in the Illinois State Senate for eight years - 22 years in the military gives McCain insight as to the role of commander and chief -- is the community organizer gig the comparable for Obama or is it the fact that he is running for president prepare him to command our military? The arguments are ridiculous --Obama is a well spoken, well educated empty suit who doesn't have 1/50th the experience his opponent does -- which is why many are trying to force a comparison between Obama and Palin -- Palin isn't at the top of the ticket -- McCain is -- and when it comes to the FACTs -- McCain's list of accomplishments could fill a book -- Obama has 3 - worth note

You said it, jem12475! Republicans don't have to 'show face' to support each other. Unlike the Obama 'party convention' which hosted a full house - they all want to be associated with someone popular but don't have any real ideas of their own. Conservatives (minority or not) share the same ideas of 'people make the country great' not 'government makes the country great' like Obama believes.

Did anyone else notice that when you see the Obama Biden signs that your eyes fool you and it can sometimes read: Osama BinLadin? Telling!

I think you need some god damn Lasik surgery champ:)

      • Posted By: JAWLee @ 09/04/2008 12:07:43 AM

If obama wins...that would be a surgery that is considered 'elective' and won't be offered under his 'national health care reform'

Well i hope that the doctors can still learn when they are deprived of desks cause they didnt earn them.

          • Posted By: JAWLee @ 09/04/2008 12:19:58 AM

Who would want to become a doctor under Obama? All those years of hard work and studying, working to support family or putting family off until school is done...only to end up working for the government. I don't want to go to the doctor if it's going to be like going to the post office or DMV. No thanks!

Palin offered more content in her RNC speech then Obama and Biden combined. She can be a heartbeat away from the presidency as far as I am concerned. I am retired military and this nation is at war. Having served and realizing the value of a good commander in chief and the trickle down impact it can have, McCain is the answer. I am not a Bush fan. More Americans need to track the failures of the UN Council. Reform IS needed. I would like to see more focus on the issues and less rhetoric and mud slinging.

    • Posted By: slknight @ 09/04/2008 12:19:14 AM

Amen to that. I found that Palin's one speech offered more about how she has done her job and been very efficient in doing it than Obama has in all his speeches

    • Posted By: Disgusted American @ 09/03/2008 11:38:57 PM

f you vote for McCain you are voting for Bush. It will be same BS for 4 more years. Retired military or not we are at war because of Bush. Do you honestly think Palin can mend relations with foreign nations?

      USAF Supports Obama Biden!

  • Posted By: impartial1 @ 09/04/2008 12:17:23 AM

Jem....good guess. I embrace diversity. It is one of the reasons I served 20+ years in the military. Days numbered? What is that about. Way too much left hate vibe on this site tonight. As far as a war that was not needed comment.....Per Biden and Obama....war in Afgan is where we really should have focused? Just saying this now. Hindsight is always so easy. Take a look at history of middle east. US put Sadam in power to thwart a potential larger threat at the time in Iran. If Taliban, terrorism, and mass execution style justice in soccer field is your thing, then yes, we should have stayed out of Iraq. WMD or not, where do you think we need to take a stand when the UN fails? If Hollywood put half the horsepower behind Darfur as they do bad mouthing Bush (lost cause), the world would be a better place.

wow you really are drinking the Obama cool aide. You defend him out of the gate...

  • Posted By: JAWLee @ 09/04/2008 12:14:28 AM

My point exactly! Most whites think that 'brown' people have to be taken care of, hence, they need to be liberal. We 'brown' people have minds of our own. And that African American wearing a cowboy hat probably wears it because he wants to...not because he is worried about what liberals are going to say about him. Make fun of the minorities who support McCain/Palin.

  • Posted By: jem12475 @ 09/04/2008 12:12:42 AM

Lets not even discuss the AIP. Shes a nutjob

  • Posted By: jem12475 @ 09/04/2008 12:00:06 AM

    when the debates come...shes done.

    • Posted By: steveschr @ 09/04/2008 12:11:52 AM

      We'll see about that.

Newsweek has become Obamaweek. Your objectivity has dissolved into the ether. My respect for your magazine and most of her writers has dissolved as well. Farewell...

Newsweek to Marlee: Don't let the door hit you in the ass....

  • Posted By: impartial1 @ 09/04/2008 12:02:47 AM

Jem...I did have a beer. No Kool-aid. I saw several minorities. I doubt RNC had Spielberg producing the convention. It is obvious that the DNC is much more scripted thus far. This can happen when you have the campaign budget that is something like 3 to 1 or greater of what McCain has. TV is the larger audience. I don't think the vacant seats behind the podium are at issue. The issue at had is content delivered thus far and real reform. Dems biggest fear is that McCain is too close to the middle....hence the "90 percent of the time" stat I heard many many times last week. Many Repubs are scared of McCain because he will challenge the establishment. More Dems should respect this. Please....please.....we don't need bigger government and higher taxes. Again.....we need more content in upcoming debates. Make an informed vote America.

    • Posted By: Nor-Cal for Obama @ 09/04/2008 12:04:58 AM

      'scripted' = translation = organized.

Yes, the DNC is far more motivated and organized this year. You are correct.

"Obama won 18 million votes, faced countless tough interviews and emerged with a reputation for fluency in discussing affairs of state ..."

Incredible, is that your measure of Obama's experience to be president? No wonder Newsweek and MSNBC are in the tank for Obama. No wonder you are a guest in the Countdown, where bathtub boy only has guests that rubber stamp liberal talking points. You basically repeated Obama's line that he has more executive experience than Palin simply because of the fact that he has been running for president and won the Democratic Party's nomination!! Like Sen. Obama, you could not identify one single executive decision Obama has made in his life that affected thousands of people. At the very least, you could have discussed Obama's work with the community in Chicago. Instead, you talked about how he has achieved a "reputation for fluency in discussing affairs of state." By whose assessment? Yours? Faced countless tough interviews? From whom? Certainly not from you and your buddies at MSNBC? Your type of journalism is the type that asks Obama, "Sen. Obama, please tell us about your relationship with Bill Ayers." Obama answers, "I don't want to talk about it." Your response, "Ok, next question. What was your relationship w/ Rezko?" Obama's answer, "That's not important." Your response, "Ok, next question...." You are actually worse than bathtub boy. At least he knows he's nothing but a liberal shock jock. You pass yourself as a "journalist."

It seems MSNBC loves throwing out the word "sarcastic" tonight. Surprisingly, they never commented about all of Obama's jabs last week. Obviously, mass medias' Big Brother mind control is in full force this election year!

  • Posted By: WestCoastMessenger @ 09/04/2008 12:01:03 AM

John McCain did perform an executive management responsibiloty, one of commanding his character with the highest discipline known to man, where he never let his country down, never folded and ran when it came to his character, through five and 1/2 years of torture. I'll stack that up against Obama's executive experience of "community organizer" any day of the week.

  • Posted By: basicharleyguy @ 09/03/2008 11:52:30 PM

Masterful pick Mr. McCain. Shame on you Mr. Atler, you know better. You of all people know that the liberal media types, think that Obama can do know wrong. He's your Chicago 'bro', you know he won't stand by and let people compare his long years in public service to a soccer mom's PTA leadership.

Ms. Palin is a fresh face, not the usual Washington beltway crowd that Mr. Obama says he wants to change, but I noticed that Mr. Obama's top Advisors are almost entirely made up of former President Clinton aides, secretaries and advisors. Is that a platform of change? Doesn't look like it to me.

    • Posted By: CalAlum97 @ 09/03/2008 11:59:12 PM

And you reps don't find it even a wee bit hypocritical that you criticise Obama for his inexperience and yet claim a former mayer and < 2 yr gov has sufficient experience? I don't fault you for your pick but come on, get off your high-horse and stop manipulating the truth. Call a donkey a donkey, not a horse.

Agreed... the arena seemed a bit empty. That said, Palin is the real deal... I agree the Rs's are gonna see a big bounce... she really highlights the dem hypocracy. She is everything the feminists claim they want... yet none support her. It's a shame... well it's been fun... time for bed!

    • Posted By: Nor-Cal for Obama @ 09/03/2008 11:58:50 PM

Yea, accept for the fact that her positions directly violate a woman's right to choose and her liberties in general. What a joke. The rights still clinging to the dying brand only show their ignorance and sad social banality.

    • Posted By: mrzoid @ 09/03/2008 11:56:05 PM

Feminists want to be forced to carry the child forced upon them by a rapist or incestuous relative? Wow, thats news to me.

It became clear why McCain didn't pick Romney; good god he sucked ass.

  • Posted By: Nor-Cal for Obama @ 09/03/2008 11:57:34 PM

As a democrat, watching the repugnant convention and Palin make her noise was great. If they can't fill a tiny convention hall like that, how are they going to fill the polling booths?

The Neo-Cons have hijacked true republican principle. Which is why more and more of the republicans I know will be voting Barr, and the more moderate ones, Obama

  • Posted By: jem12475 @ 09/03/2008 11:56:08 PM
