Palin is an accomplished and poised politician with a great family and compelling life story. But, too much is at stake in this election to simply focus on personalities, poise, and the politics of identity. Despite the nasty mocking GOP rhetoric, what attracts so many people to Obama is the hope for an America that transcends all this divisiveness. Obama's supporters don't need to look in the mirror and see a black man staring back at them in order to be inspired by his message. They are interested in his community values, his intelligence, his skills as a communicator and as a uniter. They like his ideas about a different and better America. Palin's speech was written by bitter and angry white males who are cowards that hide behind their sarcasm and mockery because they have nothing original or of value to offer the American people. They think they only people who are patriotic or "true" Americans look and think exactly like them and vote Republican. I'm really sick of the GOP and their morally corrupt culture of war, guns, torture, nationalism, fundamentalism and hate. I'm actually sorry to see Sarah Palin get used by the Republican Noise Machine. But then again, if she allows herself to be used by a repulsive bunch of Karl Rove type operatives who choose to plant her in front of a national audience to deliver juvenile insults, then that says something about her as well.

A transcendental philosophy is problematic because as we can see since Sarah Palin has been selected to be Mccain's VP, the democratic party and not even Obama's campaign has been able to "transcend" the vicious, sexist and elitist attacks against her. You cannot transcend perceptions and emotions that are embedded into the fabric of the culture unless you are willing to change within.

Governor Sarah Palin supports John McCain in the fight against terrorism and his support for our efforts and the surge in Iraq.

Some Democratic leaders including Obama but not Joe Leiberman have asked what have we accomplished in Iraq? John McCain was right in his support for the Iraq surge. Iraq today is in relative peace and is no longer hostile to the United States. Iraq is currently producing two and a half million barrels of oil a day and is capable of producing four and half million barrels a day. At $120 one hundred and twenty dollars a barrel Iraq has current oil revenues of $300 three hundred million dollars a day. Those revenues can grow to $500 million dollars a day with increased production. Thanks to the John McCain support of the war and the surge $300 million dollars a day are not being funneled to enemies of the United States to support terrorism around the world and to buy missiles and nuclear weapons that can be used against the United States. With an income stream of three hundred million dollars a day, Iraq was capable of purchasing hundreds of nuclear weapons. Our current progress with North Korea on nuclear issues is a result of cutting off the money flow and purchase of missiles and nuclear technology from North Korea to Iraq.

There is something ultimateltydepressing about the nasty tone Gov. Palin used in her first exposure as a national candidate. This should not be mistaken for strength and certainly should not be identified as leadership. I was hoping for something more, something deeper.

Palin hit a home run last night! Aside from writing books about himself and speaking about himself....what has he really accomplished. Has he run a business, no. Has he run a township, no. Has he ever had to make payroll, no. Has he ever CREATED a job, no. Nothing...ZERO, NADA, ZILCH. The "FORWARD" looking candidate of "CHANGE" reached waaaaaaay back and picked........Joe Biden? A boiler plate inside the beltway good ole boy? Thats change we can believe in? The emporer has no clothes.

Palin nailed it last night! Aside from writing books about himself he has NO managerial or executive experience...NONE, NADA. The "FORWARD" looking "CHANGE" candidate reached wwaaaayyyy back and picked......Joe Biden? A boiler plate inside the beltway good ole boy. The emporer has NO clothes.

Obama/Biden '08 and left wing media, which claim to be so "human rights advocates" have brought an entire lexicon back into American politics in the ways they have treated Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, and John McCain:

    SEXIST

    CHAUVINIST

    MISOGINY

    RACE-BAITING

    AGEISM

    MALE PRIVILEGE

    WEAKER SEX

    STAY AT HOME MOM

    ELITIST

Obama and their MSM press secretaries are smear mongers.

    • Posted By: Esencia08 @ 09/04/2008 4:44:27 PM

Very true bammer! Its unfortunate that so many prejudices have surfaced during this election season from the very people who professed to build unity among disparate groups of americans. The speeches about renewing america's promise to disenfranchised americans, blah blah blah while simultaneously disparaging the experience of serving as mayor in small town as if this is not an important job. If it wasn't for John McCain selecting a talented woman as a VP we would not have had much diversity among the candidates.

I think that the democratic party underestimated John Mccain and was shocked that he selected a maverick style woman with a record of bucking her own party establishment and big oil industry to be his VP after Hillary was completely sidelined by the democratic party leadership including Obama himself who chose to select a washington insider for VP which certainly questions the idea of bringing change to washington. Hence the vicious, sexist attacks against Sarah Palin by so-called bleeding heart liberals to the extent that even Hillary Clinton has sided with the republican outcries.

Hill opened herself up to the stereotypes everytime she played the victim card, how many times did she milk the tears to get the sympathy vote? I would still vote for her if she won the nomination because mccain is a grumpy old man that is wandering around looking for his lost teeth while humming bomb, bomb, bomb Iran to himself.....

    Dear Achilles22 -
Here's a dose of reality right back at you...this is AMERICAand ANYONE, ABSOLUTELY ANYONE can be mentioned in the same breath as anyone else because he's no better then me or you or Gov. Palin! Obama has "campaigned" for 20 mos - he has not run his campaign and he's no leader of a movement! And if you believe that being Gov of Alaska is like running a lemonade stand then you have confirmed my belief that those blindly following Obama are just that...blind to his emptiness, blind to his lack of accomplishments. It's people like YOU Achilles22 that will cause people like ME to get to the polls on 11/04 no matter what! Now put the glass of kool-aid down and get over yourself!

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/04/2008 3:05:53 PM

Yep Palin can slander anybody she wants whenever she wants. And nobody is allowed to question her on it, regardless of her dishonesty.

Because Republicans are accountable to no one for anything; least of all the United States of America.
      Thanks, but no thanks.

Running Alaska for a year is not the same as running a lemonade stand, but lets face it SHE said Obama did nothing during all his years of experience she said it was worth nothing. Not some supporter. SARAH PALIN said it.

You are accountable for what you say no matter who you are! That goes for Palin too.

      • Posted By: Achilles22 @ 09/04/2008 4:43:55 PM

        Dawn -

I never attacked you, nor would I despite your obvious shortcomings. You're entitled to your opinion, but not your own facts - Obama has earned the nomination (with over 18 million votes) of his party in a national primary. His accomplishments (President of the Harvard Law Review, State Senator, US Senator of a state with an actual population to manage, and Presidential Nominee) completely and totally dwarf that of Mrs. Palin. This is fact, not opinion. Tell me how many votes she got for Mayor a few years back - 682? Really? You should be proud that she properly read the insults given to her yesterday - but then again, so could my 8 year old with 5 hours practice.

The Republican Party should be completely embarassed. This is the most qualified candidate you had? Really? Leader of the free world? (When McCain cashes out).......Seriously? Country First?

It's also a fact that you are apparently one of the very low information voters that these goons are aiming at, so good for them -

        Not so good for us.

        Cheers.

  • Posted By: tlmj2003 @ 09/04/2008 4:43:12 PM

I've figured it out McCain is shell shocked and don???t know what the H*** he's doing that's why he went half way across the world to pick a very poised, great speaker, with little knowledge of how to be a VP cheerleader.... I guess we can look forward to her cheer: "That's alright that's ok McCain/Palin will raise your taxes, support a senseless war, continue to do business overseas, kill our economy even more. That's alright that's ok because Obama/Biden are going to lower our taxes, end our war, stop business overseas, fix our economy and pave the way.....Hooray, Hooray......LOL....LOL....

Watching Gov. Palin last night was invigorating. I haven't been too excited this time around. Seeing someone who has actually done something made me sit up and take notice. I've been on the fence for a while now but leaning toward McCain - Obama is not what this country needs his greatest accomplishment is self promotion. After last night I recognize that the Republicans have the A team and they have my vote. Besides just the thought that the crazy media will have to eat a huge serving of crow when McCain wins makes it all worth it. They really think we will vote based on their biased reporting. Insulting!! Go team McCain / Palin!!!!!!

    • Posted By: AskPlus @ 09/04/2008 1:23:06 PM

You somehow don't seem like you've ever sat on any fence. Are you sure you weren't born Rep? You seem Rep. Let me see, media, Mr. Obama is bad, and Reps didn't say anything about the issues, economy or war. She also didn't mention religion, morality and education -especially with regard to her kids. Pardon but, you seem Rep.

      • Posted By: valark @ 09/04/2008 1:36:57 PM

I don't know about the original poster, but I have been a lifelong democrat...now, I am in my late 30's so it doesn't really mean too many elections...however, I can tell you I feel the same way as the first poster in regards to excitement. Both Obama and McCain left me feeling bored and as if thing were just going to repeat their cycle historically. It seemed like the same people who vote against McCain because he didn't vote for MLK day or against Obama because he is too popular had brought us to another election with nominees that fall greatly below what we deserve to have to choose from.

Then Palin reads a speech..and I am excited again as well. You can't be so thick as to assume it has anything to do with the content of the speech. What it has to do with is the non-verbal gestures, the ability shown and the promise from these things that is the result.

People want her to fail, want her to be a bad mother, a bad person, poor at reading a speech and so forth. With very little time to prepare, with tens of thousands of people there directly watching and millions more at homes across the country, Palin showed she can handle herself, the job and the decisions and chaos to come.

If you can't see that is why people are excited and that this is about non-verbal communication, then you can feel free to flip me off in silence when McCain / Palin take the office next year.

I just have to say that i am looking for a change, andit will not happen with McCain. he has voted with Bush 90% of the time since he has been in office, and 100% of the time in 2008. What we are doing is not working, and it will not fix itself with a new person in charge that follows the same policies

  • Posted By: lizpl @ 09/04/2008 3:17:56 PM

You talk as if Palin wrote that 'wonderful' speech herself. When I listened to her speaking, it sounded as if she was simply reading words off a page that someone else wrote for her. And her voice sounded very ordinary, too. How in the world does that compare to Obama's oratory? Palin is not even close! I'm sorry, but she is not a "natural."

    • Posted By: DMforfun @ 09/04/2008 3:38:35 PM

Why is it that when a woman gives a great speech, that the first words from the media, is that her speech was written for her...??? Sexist... Last night watching MSNBC, Fox News, and other channels, that is all that I was hearing. SHAME ON THEM...!! EVERY single politician, has their speeches written for them. To say that she didn't do a very good job of giving that speech, is only sour grapes... Obama's camp is now running scarred, because with her speech last night, she took the attention of the nation away from someone who thinks that he himself is the greatest. I can't wait for the debate between Bidden and Palin. But then again, if Bidden doesn't do well, they come up with some crazy idea that she cheated, like they accused McCain of doing at Saddleback. Wake up America..!! With McCain and Palin it won't be another 8 more years, because they WILL have change....

      • Posted By: Montana450815 @ 09/04/2008 4:31:38 PM

Oh there will be change. The US will totally sink into the toilet if they got elected., especially if anything happens to McCain. I wonder if they would do it faster than Bush? Propably, though it is hard to believe anyone could be more inept than he.

John McCain picked Governor Sarah Palin because he intends to follow through and make his Project Lexington for United States energy independence the dominant issue in this campaign. Governor Sarah Palin is a strong supporter of increased offshore drilling and she knows that Alaska has an offshore coastline greater than the rest of the country combined and is also comes in second among the states in oil production. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and John McCain understand that Obama and the Democrats would never consider government loan guarantees or tax breaks for a sure thing that will produce energy for the American gas tank. In fact Democrats are trying to put together a so-called windfall profits tax which will have the effect of discouraging future investment in the United States oil industry. John McCain also knows that Governor Sarah Palin family situation also illustrates that longterm Democratic leadership hostility and policies toward United States owned energy companies have caused our current energy crisis. Her husband who works for British Petroleum should be working for the former American owned Arco Oil Company. Arco Oil Company developed and explored the Alaska North Slope and formerly owned eighty percent of our proven Alaskan reserves. With its substantial oil reserves Arco Oil Company should have bought British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company during the second Bill Clinton administration. With the right business environment and support from both political parties in the United States, Arco Oil Company might have been more successful and been able to buy out British Petroleum instead of British Petroleum buying out Arco Oil Company.

Look at Apple Computer and Microsoft. Their success in the computer world have made them bullet proof to corporate takeovers. Longterm Democratic hostility and opposition to offshore drilling and periodic talk of windfall profits taxes contributed to the takeover of Arco Oil Company.

Democratic leadership under Barack Obama wanted to cut and run in Iraq today and just before our successful surge, just as Democratic leadership wanted to cut and run in Vietnam before our 1200 POWs came home in 1973. John McCain realizes he would not be here today if the Democratic leadership had their way back in 1972. Because he spent early years in Indonesia, Barack Obama may not be the Democratic Presidential candidate today but for our efforts in Vietnam in 1972. Richard Nixon a former Navy officer who served before John McCain years in the Navy understood that North Vietnam never returned any of the captured French POWs after their defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. Only the week long bombings of Hanoi including Christmas day in 1972 with our B52 bombers finally convinced North Vietnam that we wanted our 1200 POWs back now. The bombings also convinced the South Vietnamese that we would support them in the future under the Paris Peace Talks agreement. Although the United States lost in Vietnam are efforts there gave other countries time to develop their fragile democracies. Indonesia today is a democratic country today that is friendly to the United States and has a population of nearly two hundred million people, the fourth largest in the world. Barack Obama spent his early childhood in Indonesia attending school with his mother and step-father during the time of the Vietnam War. It has been reported that the former President of Indonesia stated that our efforts in Vietnam although we lost allowed Indonesia to fight off communism and develop as a democratic country. Our efforts in Vietnam bought Indonesia time. Barack Obama could have been caught up in a communist insurrection in Indonesia during his early childhood if the United States had cut and run and had not tried to slow or stop a rapid North Vietnam takeover of South Vietnam. All of Southeast Asia including Indonesia could have rapidly gone Communist if the United States did not at least make a stand to resist the rapid expansion of communism and stand by our ally South Vietnam. Ironicallly both John McCain and Barack Obama would not be the men they are today and John McCain would not be here if we had followed Democratic leadership to cut and run in Vietnam before our POWs were returned.

You must have had your ears closed. Palin showed she can stand up and defend herself, fight for her State and Country and what is right for all. You must be deaf and blind. I am a Democrat and I agreed with everything she said.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/04/2008 4:26:31 PM

Not so deaf and dumb that I can't tell when somebody is trying to elevate her own self worth by lying about somebody else.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/04/2008 4:24:12 PM

Really? Which lie did you agree with?
That Obama hasn't co-authored at least 3 bills in the US Senate, and countless bills in the Illinois state senate?
The complete dismissal yet again of Obama's experience for who knows what reason?
The feigned lack of understanding about what a Present vote is in Illinois?
The claim that she told congress no thanks on the "bridge to no-where", which actually would have at least been a bridge to somewhere had she not canceled the construction and kept the Federal money?
The comparison of a mayor job in a town of 5000 that has a city administrator to run things to, of all things, Obama's 3 years as a community organizer in Chicago? (I understate why she wouldn't want to compare herself to a State senator in a large state, but picking a job he held before he even graduated from Harvard? Is that the best she can do? That'd be like comparing herself to me working a computer lab at the college I attended!)

To answer the question about Resume's, if one of the people who presented a Resume had two years as Governer of a small state, and before that couple of years as mayor of a small town, in the small state.
And as part of her interview she starts telling lies about the competition as well as embellishing about the bridge to no-where, well I'd probably dump her

If she's going to lie to you about other people and herself, how do you ever know whether she even intends to put forth her best effort to do the job, even if you hire somebody to watch her all the time.

Talk about stupidy Abots22 , FACTCHECK.ORG has said FOUR DUFFERENT TIMES that MCCAIN IS LYING again and again about Obama raising taxes..

What Part of that do not you understand.

Either YOU are the ignorant one about this or you are in sync with the republicans lies.

Typical republican: slander first, fact check later.

    • Posted By: Abots22 @ 09/04/2008 4:22:51 PM

Interesting...this is what I read from FactCheck.org, "Obama also proposes to raise taxes to pre-Bush levels for families earning more than $250,000 a year and singles making more than $200,000, yielding additional revenue." So, exactly how is that not raising taxes?? This doesn't even mention the increase he will levy on businesses. And let's be honest here...he is the liberal of the liberal (that's based on voting record in his short lived career in the Senate), and all he talks about is government run this and government run that. He wants to fund abortion clinics, make health care socialized, higher unemployment benefits, etc, etc. How in the heck is he going to pay for all that? Taxes, taxes and more taxes. Let me ask you this, do you think the average middle class worker would rather have a $2000 tax break or a job? I am middle class and I'd rather have a job.

I thought it interesting though that 7 of 12 "Recent Postings" on FactCheck.org were clarifying remarks that Obama made, either about himself or McCain.
