A sarcastic woman proud of being able to talk trash with the men - now isn't that something to be proud of! Tearing other people down personally is only a small person's way of trying to make themselves look big. I guess that's the definition of Sarah Palin.

  • Posted By: mewalters @ 09/04/2008 10:47:33 AM

She did talk about issues that affect us all - energy (the cost of gas), taxes (the cost of living) and the war (the cost of our freedom).

    • Posted By: Jurr @ 09/04/2008 10:49:33 AM

Let's talk about the war, she said our troops in Iraq were doing God's work. Not the best impression to give a nation that is tired of war.

      • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 09/04/2008 11:05:26 AM

        you're talking about religion. Really.
Your auto therapy requires any mention of God to be framed in an apology or excuse or you get upset.
When Bill Clinton was in Office he ran the Americans Suck First campaign from the oval office! You probably felt good then as your prescription was getting filled threw his press manipulation.. as terrorists attacked and bombed... with impunity.

        • Posted By: AskPlus @ 09/04/2008 11:17:50 AM

No. She said: Our troops were doing Gods work, and we were on the side of right.
And our nation does not want to hear this. It is a lie.

I could really see Palin singing "Onwards Christian Soldiers" at a rally for soldiers going to Iraq couldn't you? These American Taliban seek to use our tax dollars and young people to support their "crusade" of war against anyone they dont like. These right-wing religious types need to be taken permanently out of participation in our government. When ideology is allowed to prevail, rationality flies out the window and the people must suffer from the mistakes of kooks.

Tired of war? We're tired of LOSING wars, not tired of WINNING them like Mc Cain and the heros in our armed services are doing now. Democracy in the middle east long term is a GOOD thing. We fight wars NOW to have peace LATER. It's how it works dummy.

As an Independent I was a bit disappointed with the speeches last night from the Republican Convention. Just as the media made cheap shots at Gov. Palin and her family, so did the Republicans and especially Gov. Palin towards the Obamas and the Democratic party. I tuned in to learn more about Gov Palin and what she has done and would do as VP for this great country I too love and served. Instead, all I heard was anger and insults that were some- what very disrespectful. Last night was a comedy show, and yes! I had a great laugh, but please lets get back to the real issues. I want to know about what both parties are going to do for our declining economy and how they can help middle class Americans like myself stay afloat. Although I love a good joke, we must remember that the state of our economy should not be over shadowed with good humor. I am still undecided, and although I am not yet satisfied with the Democrats politics, I must quote Sen. Obama when he said, "Enough is ENOUGH." This is not middle or high school, I don't care who has the best come back line, insults or jokes. GOD BLESS AMERICA if this is all we got to look forward to in November.

Palin got a bachelors of arts in sports journalism from Idaho. That???s sports journalism folks!
McCain graduated with a bachelors from naval academy rank 5th from the bottom of his class.
    Neither has advanced education degrees.

Biden has a BA University of Delaware in both history and political science.
He later received a JD from Syracuse University College of Law.
Obama has BA in International Relations form Columbia University.
He later graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna *** laude from Harvard in 1991. That???s top of his class at arguably the best school in the country/world.
While at Harvard he was also president of the Harvard Law Review.

So if you owned a company which team would you hire to run it? If you had to chose who would sit at a table face to face with Putin, who would you chose?

i have a question for you. the only thing i have heard about joe biden before obama picked him as his vp, was a career politician with now policies. I haven't heard his name more than in passing. i'm just wondering with his 20+ years in washington. what has he really done for the country other than pad his resume?

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 09/04/2008 12:48:29 PM

Biden doesn't count. He cheated. He was accused of plagiarism. Bought his diploma. Then when running for POTUS he got caught again....for 4 separate cases. He withdrew. His son is a Washington lobbyist, under criminal investigation, along with his brother.

Hussein really picked a whiner...uh I mean winner.

So because she's a mom and has real life issues qualifies her to be 1 heart beat away from the highest office in the land? Nonsense, And stop with the pitty garbage, Everyone's picking on her because she's a women boo whoo. Now because she's a women everyone else has to walk on egg shells so as to not insult all women? Nonsense. So the McCain camp forced her to force her daughter and the baby daddy, and in this case the term is fitting, to get married to satisfiy the issue so it appears to be politically correct? Nonsense, How on earth can you sell you daughter in marriage who's 17 mind you, in order to satisfy the satus quo? That's right, I said it, she's selling her family on national television and if you looked at the expressions on the kids faces ( The girl and the baby daddy) they were so like.. why are we here listening to the BS. Oh and in case you didn't notice, McCain hasn't looked Ms. Palin in the eye at all when he wobbled out onto the stage. They gave each other a quick hug, not once looking each other in the eye and they both waived seperately on there own, they could have at least raised each others hands in a show of unity. And last point... Did you know that McCain wants to tax your health care coverage? Yes, if he should become president, he is going to tax the healthcare coverage that your employers give you, so if you pay $150.00 a month out of your paycheck for healthcare, he's going to tax it. Think again before you vote.. take it from me, after all........I"m a republican.... but not this year

Obama has never nor will he attack anyone's charature. He's a decent man. When Palin attacked with the slime politics of Carl Rove, she lost any respect I may have felt. And, shame on her for attacking community organizers who fought for the women's right to vote and cival rights etc. It makes me sad that in the arena of politics that people will do and say things so cruel and spin lies with smiles on their face. I'm embarressed that the world is watching!

    • Posted By: neocon @ 09/04/2008 12:49:36 PM

Obama calls those who have pointed out his false explanations regarding his Born-Alive vote liars. Obama has a penchant for pejoratives unique among modern presidential candidates. Last week he called Republicans "ignorant." Several times during the campaign he's implied that his opponents are racist. Earlier he derided rural, blue collar Americans as bitter, bible-clinging, gun-toting racist xenophobes. Meanwhile, he yelps at imaginary slights directed at him: yesterday, he once again complained about Republicans questioning his patriotism.

At this rate, if Obama's inaugurated on January 20 his administration officially will be declared insufferable by January 21.

  • Posted By: kshortSD @ 09/04/2008 12:48:20 PM

Maybe if "star power" is the ability to read a teleprompter with conviction and enthusiasm. I'm surprised to see so many positive reviews of her speech. Her campaign claims to be the party of the future, the party of change, the party that will leave the old ways of Washington behind. Yet, all I heard last night was the same old mud-slinging that I was hoping we could leave behind. What about specific answers to our nations problems? The negative rhetoric of the GOP's convention this week, plus the shots of the all-white audience, have me feeling a little sick to my stomach.

  • Posted By: ModerateVoter @ 09/04/2008 12:47:29 PM

The most ignorant thing I hear from both sides of the fence, is that people actually think women vote for women simply because they are women. That women couldn't possibly be voting because they've researched the issues and the candidates and made an informed choice. Unbelievable!

  • Posted By: dad4486 @ 09/04/2008 12:46:19 PM

After reading this article and comments on my lunch hour,I have to wonder whether all democrats are as scared as you are of Palin? Did you really think that the man who could barely win an election in his own party could really make it to the presidency? Maybe McCain will withdraw before the election like his las opponent so he can win again.

  • Posted By: marphilms @ 09/04/2008 11:47:34 AM

I was a little worried about who I would have to vote for. Even though I am Democratic I will not and can not vote for Obama. He scares me, no he terrifies me. I liked McCain but he needed more than he had. He now has it. I really like all I have seen and hear about Palin. She is real people with real person's problems. As much as I like McCain; Palin will secure my vote for McCain. He picked a great running mate. All I want to say is you go girl. This 66 years old great grandma is all for you. Don't any of you think that Obama is a shoe in. We the woman of the US see something in Palin that we see in ourselves. She has strength, character, love, understand of problems, and knows how to go about learning about any problem area she my be week in. She is going to appeal to the American women, and the women are going to stand with her. Obama is going to lose a lot of women voters now, and some men too; after their wifes explain what a good choice Palin is. Palin brings it down to the voters level; we worry about our children; a pay check; health care. The programs women need in where Palin will be and where we will want her to be.

and working with McCain on our sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughter who are in service. Helping the research get funding from many things that we with disadvantaged children and older person need. She will not be the quiet little mouse that sits by; she will be vice-president and do all that a VP is suppose to do.

Careful now--you Repubs don't want Palin to try and match Obama's so-called "celebrity" status, do you? No, I didn't think so....

      • Posted By: moiramandiga @ 09/04/2008 12:31:46 PM

I was once asked why I was a Democrat in a very snide way. I responded "because I actually have a functioning cerebrum" You neocons are nothing but mindless trolls. You see the hypocrisy of your party and yet cannot grasp the reality of your own situation. What you smell is the misfiring of those last two neurons that you have

        • Posted By: neocon @ 09/04/2008 12:45:12 PM

Typical of a liberal, name calling based on prejudice rather than fact, but by repetition and with time, resistant to change and ignoring factual evidence to the contrary.

One thing is evident from last night, and that is Sarah Palin is amazing, and I'm a 23 year old guy saying this. For all those who are saying that Palin didn't write her speech, she CO-WROTE it, because they had to re-tool it for a female. Also, wake up, pretty much everyone has their speeches written for them, except Obama, but then, Palin isn't directly running againt Obama, she is running against Biden. SPEAKING of Biden, what a snore! So much for hawking "change", Obama definiately gets an F on that choice. So much for throwing out the Washington establishment. Palin will absolutely wipe the floor with Biden come the debates, don't kid yourself. Also, giving Hillary the boot is what will cost Obama the election... and now that Sarah Palin is around, I bet Hillary has a bit of jealousy in her eye. The Clintons might have chummed it up with the Obamas at the DNC, but after Palin, there is no love between them now. Hillary will never forgive Obama, since he literally screwed her chances for President now that Palin is in the picture.

Also, it is so funny to see all of you MISERABLE, ANGRY, IGNORANT dems posting here. OMG America is aweful! America is wrong! Bush is evil! The world hates us! We need to give everything to everyone! What NONESENSE. I simply laugh. Why? Dems are delusional in the mind. I am a happy republican, and my glass is always half-full. I am happy because I MAKE my own life, and I don't need anyone to give me handouts. Democratics in this country are pathetic.

Please forgive me but you are a true 23 yr old "idiot". I'm a proud African American woman, married, college graduate, mother of six, with a wonderful career. And I never once asked for or received a hand me down. All "Obama" is doing is relating and reaching out to all of those that are middle class...working their fingers to the bone just to provide for their families. I don't understand why you have a problem with that and further more who in the H*** dominated you as "Head of the DEMS Party"...you can only speak for yourself. And do the research all Dems aren???t looking for hand me downs. We work just as hard as a conservative, Republican or Independent and if you forgot we live in America too and what we think matters!!!!!! Go Obama/Biden. Young "Idiots" like you should get off breast milk and grow up!

    • Posted By: Konklifer @ 09/04/2008 11:26:29 AM

If you define co-writing as putting in the correct references to her being a woman, then you're right. However, McCain's campaign manager,Rick Davis told the Washington post that Palin's speech had been written before she was even chosen as McCain's VP. Full disclosure: I'm an Independent who leans to the left and am no fan of Republicans. At the same time, it's almost laughable how the Democrats can take gifts thrown in their lap and still screw things up.

  • Posted By: cakes1360 @ 09/04/2008 11:18:31 AM

Wow. I'm suprised the author didn't just come out and say it -- Palin's speech was just a bit too "bitchy" .

    • Posted By: whitehallvirginia @ 09/04/2008 12:44:28 PM

This writer has been taking the lessons from Wolfson and other Clinton surrogates who in large measure are responsible for her lose to Obama. There is the need to hold the media responsible for the outcome due to their poor decisions. Sexism worked for Hilary! Her team worked the theme for all it was worth. Palin and the GOP have learned from this example. The double standard is that it you use it then you got to own it!

I also found this little note from a blogger on Politico that I think is appropriate for being repeated:
"i couldnt help but think of that last night, if the family is offlimits, WHY THE HELL ARE YOU PARADING THEM ON NATIONAL TV? Sarah Palin is a hypocrite" The issues of woman's work and its performance ratings is great when the rating is good (that is enhances Palin's image) but is sexist if it does not enhance her image.
The media has been sloppy but lead with the chin and expect to get a punch - oh, if you hit a woman then you are sexist.

What I saw was Glodie Hawn in that mo0vie Isaw a long time ago.She is not experienced enough to be V.P.,we are smarter than that ....aren`t we.

    • Posted By: ModerateVoter @ 09/04/2008 12:43:41 PM

She's more experienced than Obama, but NEITHER have the experience to govern this Nation. So what's the answer!

"Sarah Palin showed the Republicans a star power to match Obama"--

You've got to be kidding. Last night's speeches ALL sounded like I was in High School again.
Do we need a smart President and Vice President? maybe not...as long as they can play the Rove play...God Help America.

Sarah Palin was absolutely incredible last night. I was unsure about her being selected for V.P but not any more. Her charisma was authentic and her message was perfect. Too bad that many of the Obama supporters probably weren't tuned in to hear her. I bet if they had, it would have changed their minds about their candidate. Hopefully Hillary's faithful heard Sarah...

    • Posted By: thebest11633 @ 09/04/2008 12:41:25 PM

Give us a break, please. The speech she read was totally "generic". I still don't know how she intend to help Americans to get jobs, keep their houses etc. I don't want to hear about Obama, I want to know what she wants to do for this country. The bottom line is (God forbid) that if the GOP wins, it is another blank check to big corporations, another war with Iran ... be afraid ... very afraid ....

  • Posted By: MediaMania247 @ 09/04/2008 12:36:41 PM

I watched her speech to get a feel for her views on the issues, last night she provided N O T H I N G! She introduced her family to America, spouted some rhetoric, had a few good one-liners and that was it. Don't get me wrong, regardless of her so called inexpierence she's a winner. A Mayor and then Govenor of her home state, she's got fire power, but we need more than charm and wit to fix our great nation. I was so disappointed and disgusted by the speeches of the republican party. Guliani had the nerve to use "hope" as sarcasm. Leaders do not need to sink to the level of the gutter to make a pointthat lack vision give up on hope.

I, we as Americans need a President and Vice President that will represent all of America, not just a few slices of a demographic pie. I saw no diversity, no melting pot of America in the panned shots of that stadium. What I saw was power hungry mongrels that would eat their own young!

Kind of reminded me of the Roman Coliseum. The poor die in the pit while the aristocracy applauds.
