It was a great speech. Even the liberal commentators on CNN thought she hit a homerun. There was a whole lot of pressure on her these last few days. Most presidents have speechwriters etc. But of course, she has the final say. To come in and do this on such short notice was impressive. Obama has advisors and had months to prepare as well as a whole primary campaign to refine his message. Obviously, he is a great orator. And I'm not saying she is as good as him. Still, her speech last night was impressive.

Josh22, this person had no say in her speech which Rick Davis had written for some time now.

There was a flutter of attention when McCain campaign manager Rick Davis told a group of Post reporters and editors yesterday that his team was having to rework the vice presidential acceptance speech because the original draft, prepared before Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen, was too "masculine." While we all wondered to ourselves what might make a speech masculine or feminine, no one batted an eye at the underlying revelation: that the campaign was writing the nominee's speech before knowing who the nominee would be.

      <snip>

So when you watch Sarah Palin tonight, expect to learn something about how well she handles a Teleprompter. Expect to learn something about the McCain campaign's assessment of its political standing with women, or working families, or social conservatives. Whether you're learning what Sarah Palin really thinks or feels is anybody's guess.

Or maybe a team of speech writers write speeches knowing that they have several engagments that require a certain strategy for their campaign. For instance, they know now that in 4 years, there will be another republican convention where a speech for the VP nominee will ahve to be written, so they have been planning this campaign strategy and writing speeches to present it for months, tweaking every speech as they go to counter any new information, weaknesses in the opposition, or issues as they arrise. Since men have historically ALWAYS dominated American politics, speeches are naturally written from the male perspective (incidentally, written by males, therefore already predisposed to having a male perspective).

Sarah Palin did a great job delivering her speech.

I find it amusing that Joe Biden was not held to the same standards as Palin. He's a good ol' boy to the nth degree so the Liberal Left already knows what to expect. Low expectations I might add. We wouldn't want anyone to over

See how she pans out on the first debate. Just wait...

Was Obama raised by a Muslim father and step-father? Did he study the Koran in school in Indonesia? Did he memorize passages? Did he become a Christian and then attend a radical racist church? Let me get this straight, all "Christians" behave like "Christians"? Especially those that have a vicious hatred for (some) others that are not like them such as the leader of Obama's Church? I am sure that many members of the KKK are Christian just like Obama. Does that excuse their background and views? So why does Obama slide on this one? He is tall, good looking, and people like him. He is a model on the runway - he's too sexy for his hat...

    Im an idiot.

Neos That is great logic. Because Republican's have run budget deficits, we should vote for Obama who is going to make matters even worse. Don't get me wrong, I'm disgruntled with both parties. But Obama and the Democrats solution is for the government to bail everyone out. Where is that money going to come from. Well, from more treasury bonds to China of course. At least Bill Clinton was for welfare reform. The only welfare reform I see Obama for is to make it bigger.
If either of them was going to raise taxes across the board and cut spending . . . I'd vote for them. But it is the same old thing. Obama wants to tax the rich and give all sorts of government handouts. The republicans want to cut taxes, etc. I get tired of the same ole, same ole. But yes, I'm more afraid of Obama, because he seems to want to turn the U.S. into France, as far as social programs go. Early on, I actually wanted to vote for him, precisely because he is black. I thought it could do a lot to heal our nation. I thought it would be good to have our first black president. I just can't vote for him because of policy.

America has met her newest heroine. The glass ceiling is CRASHING in a loud crescendo, and the stereotypes of a strong American women will be no more. We have been introduced to the !st Female POTUS. The lady has been annointed by the Most High God, and If God be with you...who can stand against you. Bring it on Kool-Aide Kids.

The sad thing about it though, is this......the very same "champions". of womens equallity...those LOUD voices who have demanded an event like this.....have been revealed to be covetous and two-faced. This will be remembered as the time, when the FEMINAZIS were unmasked and made irrelevant, for eternity's sake. Equality is not their goal. Domination is. They truly fear a REAL AMERICAN WOMAN.

God BLESS America....Land of the free....and Home of the brave.

    NOBAMA!!!

hmmm. well she can speak but not to ME. I am an African American MOM / WIFE working two jobs still facing forclosure, trying to send my kids to good schools and college, trying to afford groceries and healthcare. Palin does not believe in safe sex education when African american youth are catching and spreading HIV at rates that rival third world countries. Her own pregnant daughter an example of the problem, she is touting her "pit bull" tactics... well we KNOW they can attack, but what can they heal? We have the worst deficit in history... and balancing Alaska's budget doesn't impress me... there are more people in Detroit than in Alaska. there are still two full scale wars going on... and I do not intend to lose my sons in either one of them. No foreign policy concept... just the same old "shoot first and ask questions later" nonsense. Her answer to global warming ... drill more? ummm no thanks, not impressed. In fact, frightened that people are really buying into this. Well if you always do what you've always done... you will always get what you always got.

    • Posted By: mewalters @ 09/04/2008 12:37:32 PM

I challenge readers to speak to internationally renowned scientists about global warming. What you find out will surprise you. What I heard from a global energy research firm blew me away...and helped me see right through Al Gore's self-promoting campaign/Oscar win.

I think she gave a great speech for the Republican base, as an independent voter, her crass, arrogant comments and war mongering towards Russia reminded me very much of Bush and really turned me off, did not win me over. I think she is a great gal, but as my PTA president, not working for my family.

I found Sarah Palin's speech full of lies and lacking substance. Heaven help our country if she ends up in the second highest office in the land. We will be faced with more lies, like we have been these past 8 years if she is elected.

    • Posted By: chris123 @ 09/04/2008 12:36:52 PM

It's onls going to rain sunshine for the Obama Camp! And that't what we're talking about.

    • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/04/2008 11:46:19 AM

Mindy1 - what an extremely substantial post! And how about you tell us about those lies she told. And better yet, tell us about all the lies she is going to tell over the next 8 years!

  • Posted By: slcook @ 09/04/2008 12:36:51 PM

I believe the pick of Sarah Palin by John McCain convinces me that he is more concerned about getting into office than the welfare of the American people. Why else would he pick a running mate that he only previously met with twice before picking her to be the next in line for the presidency. I believe his only reason for picking her is to get as much media coverage as he can seeing as he was being overshadowed after the democratic convention.

  • Posted By: Wisdoom2 @ 09/04/2008 12:36:05 PM

My first impression of Palin was that she bring a clean image to the political arena regardless of what party she decided to run for, then after hearing a rumor that she fired someone because they would not do what she demanded, a dim light started shining brighter and after I heard her speech last night, I saw her for what she claimed adamently to be "A Female Pitbull With Lipstick" or, as I stand in the Shawdows of the Capital, the slang for that would be "A Vicious Bict# With Lipstick!" I just hope that her litter instinctively does not turn out to be anything like her vicious traits.

Break that mode Obama/Biden, while the Beast is still weak!

Thank you moms for real issues. You said everything I wanted to say.

I am disturbed that educated people continue to use the term "black" for African Americans. Until this country uses respectable language for each other, it won't matter who the president is.

  • Posted By: mjkoch @ 09/04/2008 12:30:25 PM

Why are the liberals attacking Palin as a member of the radical right? Are all people who belong to the
NRA radical right wingers? If so, men and women who hunt or who own hand guns to protect their homes and children would not agree with the far left. Is Palin a radical because she is pro-life? What exaclty does choice mean? She was told her baby would be born with Downs Syndrome and she CHOSE to have the baby. Does choice only mean you have to terminate a pregnancy? Is she a member of the radical right because she wants to defeat the Islamic terrorists that are determined to destroy us rather than read them their rights as Obama wants? This moderate Democrat is now voting for McCain/Paln.

    • Posted By: SiriP @ 09/04/2008 12:34:06 PM

mjkoch, we all know that you were never a moderate Democrat.

  • Posted By: AlecU @ 09/04/2008 12:33:22 PM

Yes she is an effective leader born of real world and middle america values. To compare the conservatives to the taliban and to openly say Obama's reading books are a substitute for actual accomplishments is absurd. She did not attack social workers. Social Workers are wonderfull if they accomplish something and even in that area Obama does not list an accomplishment.

As I watched Palin's speech, I couldn't help but be transported back to high school. It seemed more like watching the popular cheerleader sitting at the rich kid lunch table mock her opponent with snark and snobbery while basking in the laughter of her sheep. My vote will go to whoever actually shows the dignity and presence needed for the office that is being contested for. If McCain/Palin want my vote, based on last night as well as this past week, they have a very long way to go in earning it. (I'm a female swing vote - the one McCain/Palin supposedly are gunning for. Before the Palin fiasco, I was 50/50 on Obama and McCain. Now, every day I walk closer to Obama's side. Rethink your tactics, McPalin... not sure its going to work for you. I daresay noone really, really likes being condescended to.)

      Truth hurts, eh?

      • Posted By: wmn2wmn @ 09/04/2008 12:32:57 PM

What true is that? The truth that McBush & Palin dont have the good judgement to take the oppertunity they had last night to talk about issue relavent to the hard working people of this country, who are out of work and potentially about to lose their homes? If thats truth, then you have problems too with judgement.

McCain sealed my vote for Obama last night when he did an interview with Charlie Gibson of ABC. Charlie pointed out that McCain would have liked Joe Lieberman, Tom Ridge, or maybe even Mitt Romney to be his choice for VP. He then asked McCain if he could look the camera and American people in the eye and say with certainty that Palin was more qualified than any of those three to be VP. McCain said "yes." The Republicans are so intent on claiming that Palin has more "executive" experience than Obama, Biden, and even McCain combined. If McCain realized how important that experience was, why not consider former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani? Giuliani was mayor of more than 8 MILLION people and had to deal with 9/11 while Palin was governor of 700,000. Giuliani has proven himself already to be worth more than Palin. It's almost like McCain has this campaign as a joke. And my last comment is reserved for the hypocrisy of the Republican party. They harp on family values and protect Sarah Palin's 17-year old pregnant daughter, asking for privacy. Were it Obama's daughter pregnant they would have had a field day, ripping him and Michelle apart for their lack of parenting skills. Jon Stewart played an excellent clip last night on The Daily Show with Bill O'Reilly himself attacking Lynn Spears as a "pinhead" for the pregnancy of her 16-year old daughter Jamie Lynn Spears. When talking about Palin's 17-year old daughter he asked that the family's privacy be respected. How are their cases different? It can't be the one year age difference!

    • Posted By: Texas-conservative @ 09/04/2008 12:32:14 PM

Bill O'Reilly isn't the republican party. It's disgusting the way the media goes after anyone they consider paparatzi bait. I wouldn't assume that the republican party would be attacking Obama's children if the tables were turned. So far, they seem to be attacking the people who have been attacking them" Obama, Biden, Pilosi, Reid, the Media (who have been the main dimwits attacking palin's daughter).

Palin made some serious points worth considering. Diversified energy production, reducing the tax burden on people and corporations that hire people and provide products, assuring a secure democratically elected government retains power in Iraq rather than risk having it fail (therefore all the effort, lives, and money have absolutely no positive outcome), reducing government spending and challenging corruption. Palin has a proven track record, although short, of successfully implementing her policies.

Voting against the more conservative party because your preferred candidate wasn't selected doesn't mean that increasing the tax burden, liberal spending, and entitlement programs are a better solution to the real issues.

Hey Tappy McWidestance , my gosh, you are ignorant, but sure think you know it all, don't you!

And, by the way, the teleprompter wasn't even working half the time last night...she winged it many times. I'm not saying I agree with everything she represents, but I think she hit it out of the ballpark last night and so do many others, and not just those on FoxNews....will you be watching Obama with Bill O'Reilly tonight?!! I know I will be!

  • Posted By: IndWoman @ 09/04/2008 12:30:11 PM

As a woman I resent the questions surrounding Sarah Palin's ability to be both a mother and a politician. Has a man ever been critized for this? Especially since this criticism is coming from some of the very people who advocate women's rights?

Also, EVERYBODY has speech writers: Obama, Biden, McCain.... what is the big deal about Palin having them? Is this a subliminal message that women need someone else to put words in their mouths?

I am thoroughly disgusted! Hillary was right, sexism is still rampant in American Politics. No one would dare question Obama on these issues. It might be seen as racist, but, apparently it's okay to be a sexist.

  • Posted By: tormentor @ 09/04/2008 12:15:32 PM

Sarah Palin -WOW- an articulate, substantive, and amazing performance smacking down the Obama candidacy and the Liberal media in one fell swoop. You go girl. McCain and Palin will shake up Washington and defeat the pretender Barack Hussein Obama.

Here's a riddle: What smells like the cross between a decapitated moose (with lipstick) and the failed policies of the last eight years? That's right, Gov. Sarah Palin.
