According to Donna1000, Sarah Palin leads by example. If that's true, than why would someone who is against sex education in school and birth contral and only wants children to be taught abstinence, have a pregnant teenage daughter? Below the belt, not really because her family brought her into the spotlight and if she were a democrat, Rush Limbaugh would be saying a lot worse.

      It's called HYPOCRISY

    • Posted By: josh22 @ 09/04/2008 10:23:41 AM

How come liberals who are all for sex out of wedlock are all over her because her teenage daughter got pregnant? People make mistakes. There are no perfect families. And children sometimes make mistakes. Conservative churches that believe that one should wait until marriage are also big on forgiveness and helping young women who find themselves in that situation. I doubt Palin thought it was best, but she still loves and supports her daughter. Sometimes, kids do things we don't want them to do.

You might want to fact check your post.

If they concider Obama to be EMPTY then Palin is TRANSPARENT!!!

  • Posted By: josh22 @ 09/04/2008 12:01:36 PM

It was a very good speech. Obviously, if you are for Obama, and want to see McCain lose you did not like it. But republicans have to be very pleased.
And those saying she is old school. As though Obama is not old school democrat only to the 10th degree. He will promise the moon and increase domestic government spending ten-fold. I think he will probably win the election, but I think some of the changes he will make in his adminstration are going to have horrible long term consequences. But hey, he promises us the moon, right?

Sarah Palin was absolutely incredible last night. I was unsure about her being selected for V.P but not any more. Her charisma was authentic and her message was perfect. Too bad that many of the Obama supporters probably weren't tuned in to hear her. I bet if they had, it would have changed their minds about their candidate. Hopefully Hillary's faithful heard Sarah...

    • Posted By: bjg007 @ 09/04/2008 12:00:34 PM

So Hillary supporters should vote for her because she has a set of ovaries??? Other than that they have completely different in views....

    • Posted By: neos @ 09/04/2008 11:55:06 AM

I was tuned in and all I heard was mean-spirited mocking. No thanks, not his time!

I'm a wife and mom working two jobs and still facing forclosure. The cost of fuel and healthcare are staggering. I also face trying to send my kids to college in this uncertain economy. I was watching and nothing she said spoke to my issues and what I care about. OK, she has a pregnant teen daughter... and she's against safe sex education. that frightens me in a world where AIDS is still a killer and the incidents among African American teens is rising at a rate that rivals Third World countries. Oh yeah, not to mention WAR and its costs (bot monetarily and in lives. All of this "pit bull" talk doesn't move me. We KNOW the Republicans are good in the attack... but not in the follow through. I'm just not willing to put my kid future in the hands of another "shoot firts and ask questions later" candidate. Answer the REAL questions first.

Interesting. Democrats oppose off-shore drilling, drilling in Alaska, and many other energy strategies (oh, did I say just like some Republicans), yet the blame goes soley to the Republicans? McCain is out there with wind farms and alike (I see Obama copied McCain's ad on this one). It seems to me that both Republicans and Democrats are out of touch with you and me both. Why is AIDS a killer? Is it sex, is it IV drug use? Is it multiple partners? Is it gay sex? Why focus only on "safe sex" as the issue here? That is scary when a complicated cultural and behavioral issue is boiled down to "safe sex" as the answer. How about we face facts and not make them up and address issues together (oh, we can't do that because we might hurt someone's feelings).

The WAR and its costs... I am against having our children die or get injured for oil. But, I am for us to sacrifice and have WAR to keep Islamic Radical Terrorists and Extremists from taking over the world. Many of the costs of the war have ended up into the hands of companies in the US for technology, supplies, etc. Much of the war has shown our determination to the rest of the world of us to act as the world's police and is a deterent.

For some, our actions in Iraq and elsewhere may get them upset and create more enemies. SOME of which are her in the US now. SOME who hate Republicans and Democrats alike simply because we are not of their religion. SOME that pre-existed before the war and have made it known that world domination is their goal.

So do we want to send a lamb or a lion into the White House? A man with no real experience and no actual change program except that which is in line with the furthest extremes of his party or a man who has broken from his party numerous times, and has been called a maverick. I take Lieberman's heart felt support for McCain above any (including my own) opinion. I am sure he has a bit more understanding of the consequences of sending in a Poser to do Warrior's job.

And, I freely admit that I am an idiot.

excellent post, cariller. not much more to be said than that.

  • Posted By: ike2000 @ 09/04/2008 11:59:40 AM

On display last night, was a picture of WalMart-Sarah's WhiteHouse. A bunch of trailer-house yellow-teeth junkies, speaking in twang. This is reminiscence of a Jerry Springer show. Is this what America has dissolved into? Where is etiquette and the flare that America enviously emulate? Can you imagine what kind of fistfight would result from a Bristol's birthday party -- if her ex-boyfriend, jumps the WhiteHouse gate and into the fray -- for silly gossip? Wow! ONLY IN USA - United States of Alaska -- NOT AMERICA@!

  • Posted By: dsnyder @ 09/04/2008 11:58:57 AM

It is clear that the Republican Party is not looking to cross the aisle under any circumstances nor are they looking to broaden their base by welcoming any liberal labeled individuals. You're either like them or you're out of "God's graces'. Oops, sorry. I'm getting them mixed up with the KKK.

  • Posted By: antiguy @ 09/04/2008 11:53:27 AM

Nice article. How much did the Republicans pay you to write it?

Palin is a joke, and her speech last night was not the elegant, poised thing you see it to be. It was condescending and clearly stated that she hates a vast majority of Americans. For all of her lecturing (I felt like I was being lectured by someone's mother), she accomplished next to nothing up there and she doesn't deserve any more of our time or praise.

    • Posted By: Jack 8590 @ 09/04/2008 11:58:08 AM

You said it all when you said "Palin is a joke." I have not heard it put any simpler or better than that.

  • Posted By: JPuder2008 @ 09/04/2008 11:57:49 AM

marphilms, How do you figure? As I recall, Mr. Obama is a Christian. Stop your ridiculous accusations unless you have proof. You are just spewing the typical fear-mongering which is how the Republicans are trying to win this election. Go back to your dark little hole. As for Palin, she's trailer trash. After Obama said that families were "off-limits" to his staff, she and the Reps respond by attacking his wife. Very classy. And what about her "family values"? Isn't that a Republican selling point? Some family values, a pregnant 17 yr old daughter. Nice. I see that the party with the "Moral Compass" doesn't know how to use it...

  • Posted By: AskPlus @ 09/04/2008 11:16:04 AM

She has a awful lilt in speech pattern and a nasally whining tone, she drops her "ing's", she came off as cut-throat, mean and sarcastic. The "hockey mom" "small-town girl" and "experienced" seemed to rehearsed and untrue. She appears to be just another smart-ass Rep. The end result is she did not do anything but mud sling. They said nothing about what they would do.

    • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/04/2008 11:55:26 AM

Now you're really nitpicking. But now that you mention it, Obama has this whistle whenever he says a word with an S in it. Sort of like listening to fingernails on a chalk board, you know? lol

And as if the dems aren't smart assed and never mud sling.

All kidding aside, please, go find some real issues.

Apaarently, Gov. Palin has a problem with the facts. Even her home state newspaper calls her lacking in integrity.

Folks... the whole Republican conventions shows just one thing- they are desperate to cling on to relevance and power. Imagine this trashy diatribe devoid of any attempt to address the real issues confornting Americans, from a discredited political neophyte with serious credibility problems. What is America turning into? I guess like the sages say..."all civilization get to a point they self destruct and implode"... and America seems to be no different.
Otherwise how can the party of great Americans like Lincoln and Reagan be adoring and cheering a woman with no morals, currently under investigation for abuse of office, whose unmarried teenage daughter is pregnant, who has also been revealed to have adulterous relationship with her husband's business partner...!
Americans must save themselves from this national disgrace!

  • Posted By: neos @ 09/04/2008 11:50:15 AM

Palin and Guiliani were the stars of last night's hate-fest. Has anyone else noticed the sharp contrast between the issues-oriented positive Democratic convention and the personality-oriented negative Republican convention? The Repubs simply can not run on the issues, so it's back to the old Karl Rove playbook of character assassination. Let's all band together as Americans first and say, 'Not this time!'

  • Posted By: wildlifeusa @ 09/04/2008 11:45:06 AM

YOU PEOPLE VOTED FOR WAR MONGERS!! NOW THE BILL WILL HAVE TO BE PAID WITH YOUR TAXES, BECAUSE NOTHING IS FREE, NOT EVEN FOR YOU!!

It is weird enough to have someone with little experience like Obama lead the Dems, but it is SHOCKING to have a wee town princess like Palin accompany an aging, forgetful man in his last few years in the GOP. THIS ELECTION is TOTALLY BIZARRE. Lets elect the best and get over it. Am about to puke with the pummeling from both sides.

This article proved to have great foresight: http://www.slate.com/id/2199322/

"But convention commentary abhors a vacuum. Everything that happens must be milked dry for significance, real or imagined. So before Palin steps up to the podium, TV commentators will go on and on about how crucial it is that Palin do well, because her viability as a vice-presidential candidate will hang in the balance. After Palin steps down from the podium, TV commentators will fall over themselves with astonishment, feigned or sincere, at Palin's brilliant performance. "A star was born here tonight in St. Paul," they will say. "This speech eliminates any doubt that Palin is ready for prime time," they will say. The extravagance of the praise will reflect, in part, the press's guilty feelings about its recent excesses in beating Palin up. Some talking heads may even crow that this splendid performance shows Palin is ready to be president, should tragedy befall President McCain.

Don't believe a word of it. Palin may or may not be ready, but her speech won't tell you anything about that, and the commentary will tell you less than nothing."

    Truer, words were never spoken.

    • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/04/2008 11:43:17 AM

"Palin may or may not be ready, but her speech won't tell you anything about that"

Absolutely brilliant! As if Palin, Obama or any other politician is going to tell you they're not ready.

Anyone who's got kids or nieces or nephews or grandchildren has seen Sarah Palin before. Just like she said, she's the "hockey mom" that attacks like a "pit bull" (her words) from the sidelines, screaming vitriol at the referees, the other kids, the coaches and the opposing parents (and sometimes, like Palin, at parents on her own sideline). We don't need another pit bull as Vice President (although anyone out there that admires the job Dick Cheney is doing should, and will, feel free to vote for more of the same).

You can't just put lipstick on a pit-bull... they're still bad news. I didn't like those parents when I was coaching my son and daughter in Little League, and I don't want one near the Oval Office now.
