I am sick of people debating on a stupid redneck and her family matters!! this does not affect my life or yours!! health care does, global warming does or will, the economy etc etc.
The republicans are selling you wind!!! All they do is attack , and offer NO solution to all the problems facing this country and the world. We have lost 8 years with those right wing religious fanatics who can only talk about dead issues!! Europe is doing all it can to curve global warming and what are we doing??? debating those people morals?? THIS IS
INSANE!! IF MC CAIN IS ELECTED, THE COUNTRY WILL EVENTUALLY COLLAPES!!

She's a poised speaker with some great one- liners, but what issues did she address that face Americans? (She'd be a great sidekick for Jay Leno, or Jon Stewart). If something happen were to happen to McCain, can one really envision Mrs. Palin as President of the US? She is currently being tutored by Pres. Bush's foreign policy advisors - this is no time for on the job training.

    • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/04/2008 11:42:31 AM

Yes I can definitely envision her as President! A smart, funny, classy woman who is funny, who has morals and LIVES them unlike the hypocrites on the Democrat side, Bill Clinton, John Edwards and of course Obama's affair with state senator Debbie Halvorson which will be released by the DNC very soon! Obama is a scumbag.

  • Posted By: abadreview @ 09/04/2008 11:42:07 AM

Yeah...except Obama hasn't had a chance to respond yet. Sarah Palin and John McSAME are in way over their heads, and hey don't even know it. Palin is an intellectual lightweight compared to Obama, and this will become more evident as the weeks progress. Obama is the leader of an extremely large political movement. Palin is nothing more than a puppet for the GOP agenda. The only people who are impressed by Palin, are the voters who were already committed to McCain. I saw her speech, it was full of personal attacks with no serious focus on the issues, as was most of the snoozefest called the RNC. After tonight, the gloves are off. First we'll destroy the GOP, then we're going to prosecute members of the Bush administration for various crimes, including Palin's specialty, ABUSE OF POWER.

Having whipped that thin resume of hers into quite a meringue, she stood on stage and read someone else's glib remarks while her family passed around a special needs child like a prop. Family values, indeed.

I'm a republican, I haven't seen anything that makes me think she is a VP.

But I could see her doing a show on Fox.

    • Posted By: Joe American @ 09/04/2008 11:41:58 AM

Yea, I agree she is too thin in the resume to be VP, which means Obama is probably too thin to be much more than a community organizer? She's been a real mayor. He hasn't. She's been a real governor. He hasn't. She's been in charge of the Alaska National Guard. He hasn't. She was a whistleblower who defeated an incumbent mayor. He has never once shown that kind of courage. She's a whistleblower who turned in the chairman of her own party and got him fined $12,000. I've never seen Obama do one thing like that. She took on the incumbent governor of her own party and beat him and then she beat a former Democratic governor in the general election. I don't know of a single thing Obama has done except talk and write??? well write two books, but not have enough time to write any laws or legislation?

  • Posted By: Konklifer @ 09/04/2008 10:42:34 AM

American voters are lazy suckers. Give them a speech filled with talking points and they'll make up their minds without researching whether those talking points are actually true. Hopefully, the debates will expose the weaker candidates.

    • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/04/2008 11:39:38 AM

Yes I hope so too. Sarah will prove Biden's 30+ years in Senate were worthless. He'll get his A$$ Reamed by her and his supposedly expertise in foreign affairs will be trashed and debunked!

He was the idiot who said split Iraq into 3 countries! How do you do that when most of the oil is in 1 or 2 parts of that country? Crazyly STUPID idea. He said the surge wouldn't work. Guess what it did, we won and are winning and we will create a democratic middle east, WITHOUT the help of the dumb ass liberals who never accomplish anything but complain about how bad America is.

I love America, I love OPPORTUNITY!

      Go Mc Cain - Palin 08 and 12 !!!

  • Posted By: Jack 8590 @ 09/04/2008 11:38:13 AM

So McCain hires a woman to do his fighting for him? Just wait and see how this backfires - her sarcasm and hubris will not play well with independetns.

  • Posted By: sangjmoon @ 09/04/2008 10:27:36 AM

Palin has more experience to be leader than Obama, Biden and McCain combined. How many of them can say they bore 5 children personally, raised them and had a successful career? That alone is more than enough leadership quality considering the obstacles she had to cross. How may of them can say that they were actually executives? Palin did more just by killing the bridge to nowhere than all of congress, including Obama, Biden and McCain, could or would do.

    • Posted By: tlmj2003 @ 09/04/2008 11:31:50 AM

I'm a mother of six, is currently raising them, has a successful career so does that qualify me to be a candidate for VP. Get over it McCain talked about inexperience what do you call Palin. Leading a state of 6,000 is nothing comapared to being VP voicing your opinions/views over millions of hard working, dedicated, middle class working, community organigers as she stated in a speech she couldn't relate to. Obama/Biden are going to rock this election with what we need "Change" and not what the Republicans have already destroyed the Economy, War, Drilling, Homes being foreclosed on by all working men/women. She's no more than a Republican cheerleader as stated earlier.

      • Posted By: DrMan @ 09/04/2008 11:37:54 AM

I am so tired of you libs and your "change". Admit it, all you care about is that it isn't a Republican. That's the only "change" your Obamessiah brings to this campaign.

    • Posted By: Jurr @ 09/04/2008 10:39:20 AM

Ah-hem, remember kids are off limits??? If we can't bag on them, then you can't use em either. Or is it ok to use them in lieu of 'experience' , yet not ok for anyone to question that experience? No wonder McCain picked her that no talent a** clown.

She should be home straightening out her drunken (according to the pics) pregnant 17 year old instead of being McCain's latest squeeze.

  • Posted By: just jerry @ 09/04/2008 11:37:13 AM

How do we get the solutions our politicians have been avoiding while they instead have been playing the politics of polarization? We have two very different approaches being offered to us. It is clear McCain is not the usual republican and that his message of reform is real and something he has been practicing all of his political career. It is clear that Obama says he too wants to bring change.

The "wierdness" isn't about the way they campaign; both are very much into the hard ball "old style politics." The "wierdness" is that we all get the impression that actual change will happen for the good of all of us, except for the extremists in both parties, regardless of which candidate wins. The solutions have become the meat of both candidates messages, not the ideology of the right or the left.

This might end up being very good for our nation even if the media will have to change their formats from forums between the far right and far left and obnoxious behavior and replace it with thoughtful and honest discussions about how we actually will solve our problems rather than just argue about them.

Hillary thats how you DO IT! Sarah showed you how to be smart, tought AND lady like. If you were even 1 / 10th as smart, cool, and hip as Sarah you'd have been the Democratic candidate.

She's so much MORE than Hillary ever was or COULD be. Go Sarah Go !!!

In the dog-world, America need not "pit bulls" , but, Cocker Spaniels -- with lumpy ears and teary eyes. Leadership is marked by short-stick carriers, not volcanic tempers. Looking through WalMart-Sarah's glasses, last night, I saw her pushing the NUCLEAR BOMB, president. Woosh, I hope I was only day dreaming. A Toy-R-Us model and actress I believe!

  • Posted By: akansan @ 09/04/2008 10:48:05 AM

I thoroughly enjoyed her speech last night. Yes, she was poised. Yes, she let it be known that she too can pull off the gloves. I think we will all be surprised when she is unscripted. I get the sense from her that she CAN handle a debate.

You have two groups posting here - those complaining that she didn't address any issues and those complaining that she didn't write her own speech. Um - how can you blame her for not addressing issues when she didn't write her own speech? And how can you complain that she only delivered a speech well? We've seen plenty of politicos recently who CAN'T deliver a pre-written speech...so be happy she can.

As a woman who was not really happy with either of my choices (and how can you complain about a hateful Palin when Hillary is just downright scary?), I'm very comfortable in my decision now.

    • Posted By: Konklifer @ 09/04/2008 11:01:46 AM

She read a speech that was written BEFORE a VP candidate was picked. This makes you comfortable in your decision? This country is even worse off than I thought. Hopefully the Dems don't wuss out because she's a woman and attack her as vehemently as they would if she were a man. Although the Dems know how to lose better than anyone around, so I don't hold out much hope.

      • Posted By: okiedokiepokie @ 09/04/2008 11:07:48 AM

When was Michelle's speech written? Who wrote Obama's or Biden's speech? WHY is anyone asking about speeches written by others for ANY speaker at either convention? Someone please explain that to me.

        • Posted By: druboats @ 09/04/2008 11:10:21 AM

          they write their own speeches

          • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/04/2008 11:34:00 AM

No WONDER their speeches SUCKED so bad!

Actually, I'm comfortable in my decision because the speech addressed inconsistencies in Obama's plans that have baffled me that other Democrats haven't seen. It was a very good speech, delivered well. That speech could have bombed if delivered by someone else. She proved she can handle a big event and pressure easily, which is important to me. I'd rather not have someone that makes you blush at public appearances.

  • Posted By: Konklifer @ 09/04/2008 10:20:49 AM

I find it funny that the same people who criticize Obama for making empty promises in speeches are praising Palin for doing the same thing. And she didn't even write this one. Come November, she will be nothing more than a historical footnote.

    • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 09/04/2008 11:25:53 AM

Hussein is all...uh, hmmm, uh, but but but, uhhh, hmmm..without his writers and a telepromtor. Remember Saddleback???

I'm aware that lots of mudslinging transpires during any election, including family information, misinformation, and much unneeded commentary. Think we might take this a step further and move on to the issues at hand? I for one don't care about Palin's daughter or Obama's mother. I do however, very much care about the state of the country - you know, where do you expect to be in five years? Any answers candidates?

    • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/04/2008 11:24:42 AM

Yeah its a no brainer. One guy wants HUGE government and INCREASED taxes, right during what may be a deep recession. The other wants to lower taxes and GROW the economy! Drilling for oil will cause the oil futures to drop and reduce prices at the pump NOW! The future technology of green energy sources is being developed NOW, Obama won't have any impact on that as many of the technologies are about to be deployed NOW.

And for those who say Obama isn't going to RAISE my taxes, don't be IDIOTS. Do you buy products and services from businesses? They will just pass the new taxes along to YOU as price increases. These price increases will create INFLATION which will PREVENT the Federal Reserve from lowering interest rates and stimulating the economy. Do you work for a business? Obama's huge tax increases will definitely mean FEWER NEW JOBS and many companies will have to LOWER your wages to pay for the new taxes and health care costs OR they will just fire you as they can't afford you anymore.

The choice is clear. If you are for MORE welfare for lazy people who don't deserve it vote Obama. If you care about your country, your job, you want MORE money in YOUR pocket each year vote for Mc Cain!

I found her mocking sarcastic tone very annoying. She went way overboard with that angle of the speech. But, let's admit it, the GOP faithful may have found their new star. How she played to the other 70% of America is to be determined.

They purposely kept her from taking stands on any issues (unless you can call being for America and for Smalltown USA, and against the media taking a stand!) because they knew almost all of her positions on the most important issues to most women are the opposite of where most of them stand.

The minute she truly has to go on the record on specific issues, she will lose half of her support with the 70% of America that counts.

  • Posted By: rwethryet @ 09/04/2008 11:23:01 AM

So what's new? Palin is now the Cheney of the McCain campaign. Mr. "Straight Talk" McCain has given the go ahead for the Rove underlings to run a campaign with a pack of snarlilng Pit Bulls and Rotweilers. No need to talk issues or policies here, just growl and spit, and keep the voters distracted and fearful. Why not, it worked for Bush-Cheney, no reason to think it won't work for McCain-Palin. Just more of the same. rwethryet

How dare these Republicans accuse Democrats of being unpatriotic. Last week, I saw 80,000 well-behaved spectators fill a football stadium to hear Obama speak. Last night, I saw a bunch of bigots trying to pull the wool over American eyes. Palin and her family have turned a political convention into a Jerry Springer event.
The fact is, the U.S. government has spent $608 Billion taxpayer dollars on Iraq, when the real threat was in Afghanistan and in dozens of terrorist cells worldwide. With $608 Billion taxpayer dollars spent on the country of Iraq, is this what the Republicans mean by "Country First"? Let's put Americans first, and have government spend our tax dollars right here in this country.

I sensed the ghost of Rosanne Rosanadana channelling theuogh this woman last night. Maybe it was that goofy nasal face she made or something about the accent. What exactly was it? Also. why is it that family is so off limits, but it's all the cameras focused on and a large part of what she talked about? I pity that poor boy who obviously had no idea a few days ago that he was committed to marriage. Now he's been paraded before national TV as some hero because he is "doing the right thing", presumably we ignore that he did the "wrong thing" because nobody told us where babies come from. Don't be mean to her , national media. Only she can be mean, I shudder at the thought of her sitting down to talk to Putin.

I'm a wife and mom working two jobs and still facing forclosure. The cost of fuel and healthcare are staggering. I also face trying to send my kids to college in this uncertain economy. I was watching and nothing she said spoke to my issues and what I care about. OK, she has a pregnant teen daughter... and she's against safe sex education. that frightens me in a world where AIDS is still a killer and the incidents among African American teens is rising at a rate that rivals Third World countries. Oh yeah, not to mention WAR and its costs (bot monetarily and in lives. All of this "pit bull" talk doesn't move me. We KNOW the Republicans are good in the attack... but not in the follow through. I'm just not willing to put my kid future in the hands of another "shoot firts and ask questions later" candidate. Answer the REAL questions first.

  • Posted By: Paz1946 @ 09/04/2008 10:37:54 AM

So, McCain got his own "celebrity" with new adoring fans. Wasn't he against that and now he's for it?

    • Posted By: TeachSexEd! @ 09/04/2008 10:47:33 AM

You got that right Pazi946, One RNC strategist had the unawareness to say, "She has the starpower." This is all so...ROVIAN! We need to exorcise him from our political discourse.

      • Posted By: Texas-conservative @ 09/04/2008 11:16:44 AM

So what exactly does being Rovian entail?
It sounds like youare just echoing the liberal blame game.

If you can really address the question so I can understand, I might even buy into it.

      • Posted By: josh22 @ 09/04/2008 10:59:55 AM

I'm sure teaching Sex Education is the answer. Probably, neither Palin's daughter nor her boyfriend knew anything about protection. Get real! Most kids in todays society know all about that stuff by the time they are 12 and 13. Plus, there are a lot of young women everyday who have had sex education getting pregnant. So is it okay to have our young people running around having sex as long as they don't get pregnant or can abort them?

    • Posted By: TeachSexEd! @ 09/04/2008 10:51:49 AM

You got that right, Pazi946. One RNC pundit had the unawareness to say, "She's got the starpower we need." The hypocrisy is glaring: Don't put my family in the press until it's convenient for me. The presidency is not a personal journey--but that doesn't apply to me.

Is Rove back at the helm? Please...make it stop!
