Yes!!! Great Job Sarah! Putting Obama in his place.

I loved it. "for those who don't know what a mayor does, its sort of like a community organizer, but with real responsibilities!"

Palin's attack dog speech might energize the rabid, ultraconservative GOP base, but it's not going to win over many indpendent and undecided voters. Perhaps my hearing is not quite waht it used to be, but I missed anything in Palin's speech about health care, the economy, loss of jobs, the mortage mess, etc. These issues matters to average, working class Americans but not to the GOP's core of big business and wealth.

    • Posted By: josh22 @ 09/04/2008 10:49:03 AM

Yes, that is right. The GOP is just for big business and the wealthy. They hate normal, average working class americans.
Really, it has more to do with philosophy. Whether you believe in big government or small. If you think government is supposed to bail us out of every problem. Obama will give you what you want, and sell more US Debt to China to do it. That is a good long term economic solution.
I'm an American who thinks health care costs are out of hand. But although it would be nice to have the government to just pay all my medical bills for me, I don't see that as a good long term solution. Be careful what you wish for, you might get it. Then we will have to pay the consequences later.

      • Posted By: druboats @ 09/04/2008 10:58:05 AM

buddy - how do you think bush is paying for his war, besides with our troops lives. borrowing money from china. it's a trillion dollar mistake that this country can't afford. we are now a country in massive debt with no way to pay for it. open your eyes ditto head.

        • Posted By: josh22 @ 09/04/2008 11:06:36 AM

One, I'm not a ditto head. I don't like Rush Limbaugh. Two, I agree. In hindsight, the war in Iraq was probably a big mistake. Also, there is hardly a spending bill Bush hasn't signed.
Still, I don't think selling even more debt to fund all Obama's great programs is the answer.

    • Posted By: thehappyamerican @ 09/04/2008 10:48:54 AM

Palin was selected to appeal to americas Conservitives (correct) and Mccain appeals to the middle-moderates-- and so the ticket does not cover americas left-wing.the liberals.
But that's an extremely limited market for votes by it's self. And the only thing Biden and Obama have as left-wing liberals!
Palin did exactly what she needed to do to ensure conditions for a McCain win. She's going to be the VP. Not President. The liberals and left wing will never be happy with her, no matter what. but then, they are an extremely limited market.
The United states is a very large place! and a nation of GREAT PEOPLE!

That is seriously offensive to call that baby a prop. What were they supposed to do with their child? Leave him at home with a sitter? Then you would be saying a downs baby doesn't fit the perfect image and they were hiding him. People will find any reason to be cynical even when a good person with a good track record gets a chance to help lead our country.

Felt like I was watching a celebrity roast.....kept waiting for the "ba-da dum" drum sound everytime she would hit a one liner. Is this Political Idol or Search for the Next Political Star or a campaign??? I like her but like as in she be a great Food Newtork host but that's about it.

  • Posted By: druboats @ 09/04/2008 11:03:58 AM

all i saw was a speech filled with hate from Rudy last night with no hope of comprimsie with people who disagree with him. Chants of "Drill Baby Drill" like some nazi party rally. and a sarcastic speech from a potential VP that would be better suited to a MADtv sketch. very sad.

  • Posted By: splutch @ 09/04/2008 11:02:45 AM

Love the rethoric this article as much as the la\dy's presntation of her values and beliefs. Each used the raier to expose nerve endings that have been, at elast until now successfully protected. Keep it comming while I send out for more pizza and beer.Thankyou to Mrs Palin and the author of this article.

I found the sarcasm very off putting and petty. I really did not her snarky put down of community organisers. I do not relate to her as a woman. She makes Hillary look ans sound fabulous - Hillary is in a different class than this shrill, self serving small town mayor, who has had the good fortune to govern a very wealthy state with a very small population for less than 2 years. I hate the way this race is developing. The choice of Sarah Palin points to a lack of judgement on John McCain's part, and an eagerness to embrace the most unpleasant and unproductive type of campaigning. This choice is not good for America.

    • Posted By: akansan @ 09/04/2008 10:58:16 AM

Sorry, I found her a refreshing change to Hillary, who can't give a speech without screaming and yelling, it seems. And how can people complain about her speech being petty and snarky, and then complain that she only delivered well a speech that was written for her?

I've been told many times that the VP candidates during the election are there to poke holes in the other side's candidates. She did that. She pointed out the holes in logic that have been baffling me that besotted Democrats are ignoring. She gave a stirring speech about the actual presidential candidate - McCain. Bring on the debates.

  • Posted By: faminchin @ 09/04/2008 8:56:18 AM

As an independent voter in Ohio who still hasn't decided, I thought Palin did a good job at showing the contrast between McCain and Obama when she said, "Some use CHANGE to promote their careers, while McCain has used his career to promote change." After watching Palin's speech, I have to believe Biden is shaking in his boots thinking about their debate. I believe she will eat him alive!

    • Posted By: Zig Zag @ 09/04/2008 9:53:52 AM

And what change would that be? McCain voted with Bush over 90% of the time.

As far as her speech - what a joke. She didn't even write it - unlike Obama, who does write his own speeches - and then she practiced it 5 times.

She is like those empty headed weather-girls on the news. She is not meteoroligist, she is just some pretty mouth-piece that does what's told.

When she has to actually think on her own - her inexperience will show.

      • Posted By: shaves38 @ 09/04/2008 10:54:52 AM

At least he had the courage to vote all those times instead of acting cowardly and voting "present" like Obama has done. McCain has been doing the job we tax payers have been paying him to do. Obama has been cashing the checks from tax payers for voting "present" the majority of his time in the senate and writing personal memoirs aimed at bolstering his political ambitions.

    • Posted By: jnakhoul @ 09/04/2008 9:23:42 AM

shes been outside of the country once for the love of common sense. All it takes is one gaff and she'll be shaking in her heels.

      • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/04/2008 9:51:58 AM

She will learn foreign policy and she will charm and disarm other world leaders. I told myself two things about Sarah Palin last night. (1) I'm looking at America's first female President. (2) America has finally found its Margaret Thatcher.

        • Posted By: pinkvik @ 09/04/2008 10:05:20 AM

The only thing Palin has in common with Margaret Thatcher is that she is the same gender. She'll "Charm" world leaders? Are you joking? Please say you are joking.

          • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/04/2008 10:23:20 AM

She went to Washington and came home with the goods for Wasilla. I'm willing to give her a chance to go to foreign leaders and come home with the goods for America.

What has Barack Obama ever accomplished for his constituents? He can't point to anything. If he did, we would have to look at the failed Annenberg Challenge.

Barack talks. Sarah acts and delivers.

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 09/04/2008 9:08:39 AM

Nah, she'll bomb the debates. It's a lot easier to spit out a speech that has been rehearsed over and over than to actually spar with someone.

  • Posted By: mewalters @ 09/04/2008 10:52:01 AM

I love it when people make sense. Nice logic akansan.

  • Posted By: wakefuldyer @ 09/04/2008 9:57:49 AM

I had hoped that with all of the comments of "freshness" and "down home" that we would get something different. Instead we get the same old mean-spirited attacking and belittling at which the Republican party has come to excel. Humiliate your oppopnent by half-truth and caricature, and you yourself somehow look better. What happened to Mr. McCain's desire to transcend partisan politics and reach across the aisle to work together. The only reach across the aisle here was to flip the other side the bird. Still, one can't help but smile when Ms. Palin talks about tackling corruption and the old guard political process. Don't those cheering nabobs understand that she will be going after Republicans as well as the other patry. She did feast on Republican flesh in Alaska, you know...

    • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/04/2008 9:59:07 AM

Sarah Palin's remarks about Obama were mild in comparison to the Democratic vitriol that has been dumped on her all week.

      • Posted By: wakefuldyer @ 09/04/2008 10:49:38 AM

Perhaps this is testimony to what a fallen nation we are, we we can justify the leaders of the parties' misbehavior by saying that "At least it wasn't as bad as THEIRS. Bad is bad. I could write volumes about the Democrats as well, but I was responding to HER story, not theirs. I have this to say: Sarah Palin professes to be a devout Christian. Then her life and her conduct should reflect it. And Jesus did say, Turn the other cheek, and love your enemies, and do not return evil for evil the the measure you give shall be the measure you get. I know these are not popular ideas in the political realm. But I would just, for once, like to see a candidate, who, like Sarah Palin, actually emboy what she says she believes. If all of our candidates, regardless of party, would do this, maybe we really COULD see some change come in to the system. Naively yours...

Democratic leadership under Barack Obama wanted to cut and run in Iraq now today and just before our successful surge, just as Democratic leadership wanted to cut and run in Vietnam before our 1200 POWs came home in 1973. John McCain realizes he would not be here today if the Democratic leadership had their way back in 1972. Because he spent early years in Indonesia, Barack Obama may not be the Democratic Presidential candidate today but for our efforts in Vietnam in 1972. Richard Nixon a former Navy officer who served before John McCain years in the Navy understood that North Vietnam never returned any of the captured French POWs after their defeat at Dien Bien Phu in 1954. Only the week long bombings of Hanoi including Christmas day in 1972 with our B52 bombers finally convinced North Vietnam that we wanted our 1200 POWs back now. The bombings also convinced the South Vietnamese that we would support them in the future under the Paris Peace Talks agreement. Although the United States lost in Vietnam are efforts there gave other countries time to develop their fragile democracies. Indonesia today is a democratic country today that is friendly to the United States and has a population of nearly two hundred million people, the fourth largest in the world. Barack Obama spent his early childhood in Indonesia attending school with his mother and step-father during the time of the Vietnam War. It has been reported that the former President of Indonesia stated that our efforts in Vietnam although we lost allowed Indonesia to fight off communism and develop as a democratic country. Our efforts in Vietnam bought Indonesia time. Barack Obama could have been caught up in a communist insurrection in Indonesia during his early childhood if the United States had cut and run and had not tried to slow or stop a rapid North Vietnam takeover of South Vietnam. All of Southeast Asia including Indonesia could have rapidly gone Communist if the United States did not at least make a stand to resist the rapid expansion of communism and stand by our ally South Vietnam. Ironicallly both John McCain and Barack Obama would not be the men they are today and John McCain would not be here if we had followed Democratic leadership to cut and run in Vietnam before our POWs were returned.

The surge, the surge, the surge ... I am so tired of hearing about the surge. Hello? We shouldn't even be in Iraq. If Bush and McCain had the same foresight as Obama, we never would have invaded Iraq, we would have been remained focused on the real enemy in Afganistan.

      • Posted By: ron_from_the_boonies @ 09/04/2008 10:45:32 AM

I guess you are forgetting that it was the Democratic leadership , i.e. Kennedy and Johnson, that actually went to war to stop the North Vietnamese aggression, and the Republicans, Nixon and Kissinger, who pulled out ignominiously.

See Hillary? That's how to do it!
You don't attack cops, military professionals, Christians, achievers, and fire arms owners in the least way!
(Of course Liberals scream as they expect this abuse toward other Americans. But then nobody is going to win on only the left-wing and liberals votes! It's an extremely limited market!
    See Hillary?
A woman who does not attack military experts, Christians, gun owners, police and achievers CAN go on a stage and still have PLENTY to say about our great country and great people!!
    Did you see that Hillary?
A woman can go on a stage before the American people and IGNORE every pissy required talking-point of the DNC's Americans Suck First campaign and still have a great deal to say about our great nation, our future and prosperity!
Did you see that Hillary?Bill? Biden?

The speech was well done and it is obvious Governor Palin enjoys the opportunity to counterpunch. My problem is that I already know she doesn't like Senator Obama so the sarcasm was lost on me. I want to know how you are going to help me combat the rising cost of health care. Senator McCain says everyone has access to health care in the emergency ward. That is small comfort to a stroke survivor. I am also concerned about the rabid pro-lifers (not in Iraq I notice). Small government is a good concept but it is hard to imagine a larger government than one that wishes to enter my body. Now that all that is off her chest, please tell me what you will do for middle-class American.

    • Posted By: josh22 @ 09/04/2008 10:33:15 AM

I am prolife. I'm not a rabid prolifer, I don't attack doctors that perform abortion. Obviously, on the abortion issue, the democratic party is more 'pro-choice' and the republican party is more 'pro-life'. If your vote is based on that, you are going to probably vote for Obama.
But I seriously even doubt that any republican president would get Roe v. Wade overturned. Republicans have been in office 20 out of the last 28 years, and it hasn't been overturned and I don't think it is likely in the future. About the economy and health care I don't think Obama's answers are the answer. I admit medical cost are crazy. But borrowing more money from China to pay everyone's health bill doesn't seem like a good long term solution to me. I'm not sure McCain has the answer, but I know Obama doesn't.

  • Posted By: alan.lockett @ 09/04/2008 10:20:02 AM

I get really tired of people talking about how Barack Obama stands for change. The only change Obama stands for is MORE socialism, MORE government interference, and LESS liberty, which, excluding the socialism, is exactly what Bush stood for - MORE fredom for government, and LESS freedom for individuals (and states and local governments). Obama may stand for change, but it's not change for the better. And before some snarky Obama suporter tells me that conservatives have been in charge for 8 years, I want to note that Bush has definitely accomplished change for the worse, and none of it has involved Constitutional, limited government. It has instead involved massive government spending and intrusion into the lives of individuals at home and abroad, which is exactly what Obama has to offer and calls "change".

It's time to wise up. Obama isn't going to repeal the Patriot Act - he likes it, though he would never admit. As evidence, witness his vote FOR the FISA revisions in whihc he not only gave telcos immunity for warrantless wiretapping, he removed or weakened statutory provisions that protected citizens from surveillance by police. Under this bill, the President could have all the benefits of Waergate with no risk. Approved by Obama!

Sarah Palin isn't perfect - I'd rather vote for Ron Paul. But at least she's an individualist. At least she's not part of the elites that are fleecing the country under Democrats and Republicans. This is all very simple, really.

    • Posted By: gustavgustav @ 09/04/2008 10:30:11 AM

Hey Alan - I got news for you. Wake up dude! Are you kidding me? We need someone to clean up the mess of the last 8 years. There is no way Obama will emulate what Bush will do because he's running against that platform with McCain - if McCain voted for bush's policies 90% of the time, then he'll support the bush agenda if he wins. We can't afford for this to happen again. EIGHT IS ENOUGH. ENOUGH DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE TO THIS COUNTRY BY THE FAR RIGHT AND THE REPUBLICAN CRONIES. And I'm sorry Alan, but Ron Paul aint going to win a thing so get off the sidelines and vote for change - vote for Obama. Don't become that person from 2000 who lost the election for us by voting for Nader. God help us if the Republicans get another 4 years.

  • Posted By: Grumpy Old Man @ 09/04/2008 10:27:51 AM

Sarah Palin did what she had to do last night:
    1. Introduce herself and establish her credentials
    2. Talk knowlegably on several issues (notably budget, reform and energy.)
    3. Eviscerate Obama
    4. Support the number one guy on the ticket.
She did all with eloquence, wit and toughness. No wonder the opposition is sick and will come back with even greater furor; they know they have a fight on their hands.

  • Posted By: bologna2008 @ 09/04/2008 9:53:17 AM

Sarah Palin is a pawn and if she's too stupid to figure it out, then let her keep going and fall on her face. She's a joke, just like John McCain. If Obama is criticized for no substance, then these jester Republicans should be criticized for sarcasm and low blows with no awareness of policy or the reality that our current administration has put us so far down the crapper who knows if we can get out.

    • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/04/2008 9:57:41 AM

With gas at over $4 per gallon, and America's elected officials dithering over what to do about it, Sarah Palin, in less than two years, has launched the largest energy infrastructure project in the nation. That's more substance than I see from Obama, Biden, or McCain. Le'ts get out of her way and turn her loose on Washington! She's all action. Obama's all talk.

Yes...a pipeline that will go through Canada creating good jobs....for Canadians. BTW, this is a natural gas pipeline. Oil from ANWR will not make any difference in the global supply demand equation. Also, there are no new refineries to refine this new Alaskan oil. Gas were I live in the NE, is $3.59 a gallon today everywhere....and falling.

        • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/04/2008 10:27:42 AM

Uh, you have to go through Canada to get from Alaska to the continental U.S.

  • Posted By: SouthernSoccerMom @ 09/04/2008 10:26:09 AM

I am a registered Repubican soccer mom and was greatly disappointed in the speech. All snark and no substance. I didn't like the put down of community organizers...this is in essence what our founding fathers were, as well as leaders in the civil rights and womens' movements. And isn't this what Colin Powell does now? My other problems are that I don't see this as someone who can unite the country or work with people in Congress. The Executive branch needs to be able to compromise and work with people or nothing gets done. After 8 years I have had enough of that. I have tremendous respect and a soft spot for war heroes and a year ago I would of found it inconceivable that I would not be voting for McCain, but this was the final straw for me.

Sarah Palin -- The New Alan Keys (Hey Look, We've Got One Too!)
It is amazing how this woman gave one of the poorest speeches in political history, and this morning the so called liberal media is hailing it as a success. This is Affirmative Action gone desperately wrong. This message has been approved by a former black female Republican who tired of the bull from both sides.

  • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/04/2008 9:38:43 AM

Sarah Palin's and Rudy Guliani's comments about Barack Obama were spot on.

Sarah Palin has lived a normal American life. She is charismatic in an optimistic, inspirational way with none of the preachy, "there's something wrong with you" somberness of Barack and Michelle Obama. She doesn't TELL us what to do. She just goes out and does it. She leads by example. Barack and Michelle? They TELL us what to do without doing it themselves.

    • Posted By: mcrochip @ 09/04/2008 10:10:13 AM

What exactly are you referring to? That she preaches abstinence and responsibility, yet has a baby at 44 and 17 year old daughter nearing motherhood? That her complete anti-abortion stance goes farther than the bible? That the earmarks and reforms she preaches against are both things that she's engaged in herself? Or would it just be that, after talking about how devout she is, that her entire speech was packed with lies.

      • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/04/2008 10:20:11 AM

I don't agree with all of her policy positions but I see her doing her job for Wasilla and doing her job for Alaska which makes me think that she just might do her job for the entire USA. Barack talks. Sarah acts.

"Our national leaders are sending them out on a task that is from God," she said. "That's what we have to make sure that we're praying for, that there is a plan and that plan is God's plan."- Palin talking about US troops in Iraq.

Think long and hard about this VP candidate. Does she really believe we are in a holy war? Against whom? Shia? Sunni? Muslims in general?
