Women have arrived...on the shoulders of many great foremothers. Now we have to learn to take the trash to the dump. Palin is a performer, brought in as the warm-up act for someone who can't draw in a crowd or come up with a way to repackage a dying Republican platform.

    • Posted By: josemarti @ 09/05/2008 2:52:11 PM

A performer? No. She is the grey eyed Greek goddess Pallas Athena in full armor. Your boy talks about Americans clinging to religions, but he is going to be clutching his cojones once she is done with him.

She's Dick Cheney in a dress. Mean-spirited, snarky, a big-mouthed, small-minded shrew. I would love to see her face to face with Hillary. Senator Clinton would clean her clock.

    • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/05/2008 2:26:25 PM

Actually, I suspect Hillary and Bill were taking notes on Wednesday night. She's a natural just like Bill.

I think this is really appauling; listening to all of the rhetoric the media is comparing the VP candidate to the Presidential Candidate....where is John McSame in all of this? The media is so busy trying to pit her again Obama so the real issues will not be discussed. I think Obama, John and Joe have proven thier strengths and weakness through vetting, media, etc....it is time for Palin's to be discosed. My 18 year old can read from a speech that is written for her, but let's wait and see what is said in the debates. To give her a crash course on foreign policy is scary at best. That's like cramming for a crash course in school, you only learn what you need to know to pass the class at that time instead of retaining information. The Repugs are a sad bunch, it is not about voting McCain and Palin in; its about keeping Obama and Biden out....at any cost.

  • Posted By: cferns1530 @ 09/05/2008 7:03:29 AM

Palin doesnt even believe in Global Warming but believes yet again like Bush, that the Iraq war is a 'Task from God' and Creationism should be taught in school. She wants to drill in the arctic reserve since McCain is against it, he doesnt mention it. It always comes down to God or the 911 cause or the 'No Child Left Behind'.

    • Posted By: Donna1000 @ 09/05/2008 2:21:43 PM

She also thinks evolution should be taught in schools.

If there is one thing that I have learned in the last eight years, it's that Americans disagree profoundly on a number of issues. How refreshing to have a politician who is willing to give light to more than one idea and let people decide for themselves.

  • Posted By: LydiaMarie @ 09/05/2008 12:30:10 PM

Palin has the guts to go after a man like Obama...good for her. She has to know that not all of her sarcastic remarks will sit well with people--hello, that was the point. She's stirring things up, standing up for what she believes in: of course she's going to be criticized. Bring it on. She's ready for it. She can dish it; she can take it. She's obviously not afraid of the big bad Washington and all the scaredy-cat Democrats. If it were a man who had given her speech, there wouldn't be so much controversy. Because she is a woman with a sharp tongue, people are raising hell. GOOD. It's about damn time.

Hey, Obama is a LOT smaller than a moose.

Wow .. The GOP has reduced our government to a really bad episode of Jerry Spinger !
Makes me proud to be an American, and makes me want to vote Republican.
SCARE the ignorant masses into submission, therefore keeping me and the rest of the elites wealthy.
I can always use more landscapers. Go Rebplicans ruin the country more, so I can continue to enjoy myself.
And when it is all over, I'll retire in another country WEALTHY, HAPPY, and AMUSED !!!
STUPID masses means WEALTH for OTHERS !!!

Hey careerdaytrader you've forgotten about the middle class and lower middle class who in my opinion is the backbone of America. I'm an Obama supporter and I'm anything but Un American as you would say. I'd like to compare MY CLASS to that middle child who always tends to be left behind and out of focus. Funny how I don't depend on any government assistance IE., "WELFARE" but there is no SPECIAL tax cuts for us and we don't qualify for anything so it's about time we get somebody in who understands this unfair balance of lets help the rich get richer and the middle class can keep trying to make ends meet so sounds like you're an over indulgent brat that has no idea what it's like to struggle so people like you should stop DRAGGING America down by their self righteous attitude!!

    • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/04/2008 4:21:39 PM

The point is if you take the income tax statistics and divide the total raised by all tax payers it comes out to about $10,000. So if you and other Democrats have not paid $10k or MORE than you have NOT paid your fair share. That itself is a form of welfare. The RICH are covering your share because you can't afford it.

I paid $107,000 last year so I covered your share and most other liberals on here. We don't need a tax increase. If you are going to raise taxes raise it on EVERYBODY. That would be fair. Democrats are thieves and if you don't think getting FREE HEATH care isn't welfare than you're deluding yourself.

      • Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/05/2008 1:53:03 PM

Given your choice of a career and the damage it inflicts on the stock market, you ought to be paying $250,000 a year. Go find a career that doesn't amount to theft on the margins of publicly traded stocks.

Why don't "we" nationalize your company into a manure shed? In reality I don't support any kind of nationalization, but I'm not going to shed any tears for your condescending, arrogant, full-of-yourself ass.

First, Palin is NOT the policy or decision maker, McCain is.

Second, Republicans like to talk experience in this race

But who really has the experience, judgement and leadership?

    1. Barack Obama said we did not have justification to invade Iraq and was against it.

That turned out to be true. No WMDs. OBAMA WAS RIGHT.

    2. Barack Obama said we should attack in Pakistan if we find the enemy there.

BUSH IS NOW DOING JUST THAT.

    3. Barack Obama said we should use diplomacy as a first resort not a last resort.

BUSH IS NOW DOING JUST THAT WITH NORTH KOREA AND IRAN.

    4. Barack Obama said we should establish a time table to leave Iraq.

BUSH HAS NOW ESTABLISHED A TIME TABLE WITH IRAQ TO LEAVE BY
    2011.

    5. Barack Obama said Washington needs change very badly.

JOHN MCCAIN IS NOW, AFTER YEARS, SAYING JUST THAT.

So who then has the correct judgement here?

Looks to me like both PRESIDENT BUSH AND JOHN MCCAIN ARE NOW DOING EXACTLY WHAT BARACK OBAMA SAID LONG AGO.

So who then is the real leader. He is the one others follow, and that is Barack Obama.

So yes, Obama has less so called experience but obviously he has learned so much more from his lesser experience because he has the correct judgement and has been in the lead on all these issues.

These are the FACTS, NOT just mere speculation.

I think Governor Palin is a good choice for John McCain. She settled some good differences between Obama and McCain and at the same time showed that she could defeat Obama now (if they used the argument that she is a heartbeat away from being president herself.)

We need to show the candidates that there is a better way to prosper America and bring security. We are going the wrong way and destroying ourselves from off the earth as the word of God says. The goal in life is not employment; it is retirement in a garden paradise that solves all world problems at the same time. So why should we create more jobs and give higher wages? Why should we create better fuel to continue destructive, polluting lifestyles that continue world problems when a garden paradise would solve problems? We will still have the same worries unless we turn around to true freedom and independence.

The Obama camp is starting to realize that someone has upstaged their diva. And there is nothing they can do about it. There would be no Sarah Palin if Hillary had been the VP candidate. Sarah Palin is even more of a fairy tale than Barack. And in troubled times, people want to beleive in magic. Poof! She's the VP!

Wow, what a speech by Sarah Palin! This is the kind of speech that first graders should see, people in their last year of collage should see before they go out into the world; it should be an American tract, just like Huckleberry Finn or Great Gasby; something that you check in on now and then.
I think the Biblical term for her , since we are in a
Biblical age is "deliverance", delivering us to where we should be.
She is sort of a gift to us from the world, in so many ways.
That speech just sent a thrill up the back of my leg (yes I'm a man), and that doesn't happen to me often.
I don't even think she own's a ranch (I'm proud to say that with out cussing). Please remember after reading this that imitation is the higest form of flattery, at least that is what one of my high school teachers taught me, after I imitated him relentlessly for about six months.

Is Rezko working with the feds?
SOURCES: | He's been back at courthouse numerous times

August 28, 2008 Chicago Sun Times

"As his sentencing nears, pressure is mounting on Tony Rezko to cooperate with federal investigations into some of the highest-profile politicians in the state -- including Gov. Blagojevich.

Two more trials -- one in Chicago next spring, one in Las Vegas -- hover over the Wilmette businessman and onetime prolific political fund-raiser for the governor and BARACK OBAMA.

Tony Rezko was inside the federal courthouse as recently as Aug. 14, sources for the Sun Times say.

Now, sources tell the Chicago Sun-Times that Rezko has been seen at the federal courthouse as many as a dozen times since his June conviction. He's been held since then at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago.

Rezko hasn't had to be back in court since a jury convicted him of corruption charges involving state deals. And his scheduled Sept. 3 sentencing was recently pushed back to Oct. 28".....ONE WEEK BEFORE ELECTION....hmmm...just a coincidence???

I am so tired of hearing liberals accuse Republicans of being fear mongers. You don't have to live in fear to be realistic. Our world is not exactly a calm and peaceful place. America has always had and will always have enemies. Many of them are not exactly the sitting down and chatting about it type. We need strong leadership that is ready to defend us. Let's be honest, if this country is attacked again or if our enemies smell weakness and fear, gas prices and healthcare will be the least of our worries. The way I see it, our political priorities are a little like Chemistry or Algebra. One principal builds on the other with security providing the foundation, followed closely by energy independence, then the economy and social issues. Each of these principals is closely related to the one before. So if we secure the foundation, our structure (our country) can be strong again.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/05/2008 7:18:54 AM

Anybody can weild a big gun. Strong leadership is strong LEADERSHIP; not picking fights with anyone and everything. McCain's bluster is not strong leadership; its stupidity. Getting us into Iraq is not strong leadership.

Republicans are fear mongers because they try to make you afraid of everything to get a desired reaction. It has reached the point where they try to get people to believe a country is out to get them when it is not. That a country has weapons of mass destruction when it does not.

Strong leadership means letting the facts speak for themselves, and making decisions based on the facts. Instead Republicans have consistently manufactured evidence to support an agenda. This is true not just in Iraq, but in our elections. No matter how you look at it that is not strong leadership, and it's continued practice means they have not changed..

When you hear a Republican lie about Obama, remember Iraq.
It does not stop at stealing elections. Our country is much too powerful to risk so much corruption in our leadership.

    • Posted By: kshortSD @ 09/04/2008 4:34:53 PM

First of all, I truly believe that Obama's desire to use diplomacy in dealing with aggressive nations will result in our nation being safer. Bush's eagerness to use military force has only aggravated those who dislike us. Second, constantly referring to 9/11 is fear mongering.

      • Posted By: 4astrongamerica @ 09/04/2008 5:33:53 PM

9/11 happened. Pretending it didn't or that it can never happen again is just irresponsible. It's kindof like slavery. We hear about it all the time and it happened a long time ago. Pretending that it didn't happen won't make it go away. Without the reminders and the dialog about it, we might not be where we are today in changing the results of it. Our country changed FOREVER on September 11th. We started the journey to where we are today on 9/11 and we can't go back. Many of the major issues we face today are a direct result of this murderous act of terrorism and the mentality of the Islamic extremists that are trying to control our world - not just America. We must be vigilant and prepared. Our world has enemies today that are different and in many ways more dangerous than any we have faced before. We can't have a productive dialog with millions of Islamic extremists and we can't give in to their demands. Converting to Islam is not an option and it is the only thing that will satisfy them. So our only real option is to be strong and be ready. McCain is the candidate that has the knowledge and experience to do that.
**Please note that I said Islamic EXTREMISTS not Muslims - there is a difference.**

Have you ever heard the cliche' "Talking loud and not saying nothing?" That's what Palin was. She made a lot of wisecracking jokes that I even found funny. But the truth of the matter is this: she didn't champion a plan that Mccain has put forward. The reason: they don't have one. She is the republican VP choice because of her gender, youth and vigor, and alleged knowledge of the OIL and energy issue." Other than that, she hasn't offered any insight into the problems we''re facing.
Also, where is she today? In my view, she's a discredit to Mccain's supposed "American hero" theme because she basically threw rocks at the neighbors kid and then ran in the house. If she's so much of a "star," I don't know who runs from their limelight.

    • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/05/2008 7:05:55 AM

She does have knowlege on oil.
      1) She knows how to cater to oil companies.
      2) She knows how to get higher oil prices. (Her husband works for BP.)
      3) Alaska is a big oil producer for BP, with a small population. They taxed the oil, and rather than spend those taxes researching or building infrastructure for NEW Energy, she fed that right back into the pockets of the Alaskan people; not the American people, but the Alaskan people. (That's great if you're an Alaskan, but if you live in Pennsylvania or Ohio, it was your money that was redistributed not to solve the energy crisis, but to Alaskans.)

She says country first, but by that she means Alaska first. Country first would mean doing something that benefits ALL Americans not just a few.

The author of this article asks the question , "Will Obama get flustered now that he's no longer the hottest, youngest story in town?" Who says he still is not. For one, I do not review Palin as taking Obama's place. Palin is TRAILER TRASH that the Republicans and some media is trying to pass off has being someone that she is not. Palin is not at Obama's level even though she forcefully tried to paint herself as his equal. Palin does not have the education nor experience that Obama has. She is not qualified to be VP and most definitely not president.

Her speech was the typical right wing rhetoric.-attack and more attack and void of substance. It was very apparent that Carl Rove or some one like him wrote the speech for her. America's standards have really
been lowered by the Republicans reaching down and pulling Palin from the bottom to be VP and the president at a hearbeat. What happen to those morals and family values that the Republicans are always advocating to others.. The VP position is one of great leadership and Palin having an unmarried 17 year old daughter who is pregnant does not exemplify this.

John McCain does not put country first but his own selfish ambitions to be president. The very thing he accuses Obama of doing he does. He is a hypocrite. Further, McCain selecting Palin as his pick for VP confimrs he has poor judgment.

I love my country too much to vote for McCain/Palin I was fooled last time by the GOP's lies, deception, fear tactics but not his election.

    WAKE UP AMERICA !
    Independent Voter for Obama08

    • Posted By: whook @ 09/04/2008 4:30:35 PM

Trailer Trash? Really? And you talk about attacks. That kind of left wing attack is disgraceful to your party. Mrs. Palin seems like a fine woman in an honorable and respected position. What is trailer trah anyway by your definition. Do ou think that if someone lived in a mobile home, they are not as good as you? That is exactly the kind of elitist thinking that will be the downfall of the left wing.
Oh, and attacking her daughter? Shame on you. Does having a baby at 17 make you bad or immoral? If so, this country is in a great deal of trouble. Maybe if we concentrated on academics in the classroom instead of politics and sex education, this would happen less.
I love my country too much too put it in the hands of Obama and his crew.

      • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/05/2008 6:53:52 AM

A fine woman does not lie in every other sentence.
A fine woman stands on her own merits. She does not have to slander others to make herself seem acceptable.
Obama is a hardworking senator who has served honorably in both the US Senate and the Illinois state senate. She said he has authored nothing in all of that time. This is something that has already been said before and proven wrong.
She pretended not to understand what a vote of present is in Illinois. If she doesn't get it NOW, she has no business being a VP candidate.
She said she told the federal government, "No thanks" on the "bridge to nowhere". What she really did was beg (lobby) for it until she got the money, and then cancel the project while keeping the money. (SHE MADE IT THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE.)
Rather than lie, Obama basically tries to tell it like it is. He honors McCain's sacrifice in the POW camp. (He does not exploit it like McCain does himself.)
He congradulates his opponents when it is time to, and he's gracious even in the face of mocke
He also talks honestly about any of our country's problems. He understands that our country does not have enough oil to even affect the world supply significantly, so he does not present it as a solution. The same can not be said for the Republicans who don't want to solve the energy problems as that would hurt the profits of their precious BP, ExxonMobile, and Shell.
Obama presents American energy as a solution.
Obama presents taxes that result in tax breaks where they are needed in the middle class. This is the group that does the work. This is the group that builds the wealth, and feeds the economy.
When Palin talks about it she acts like it's a tax increase, but that's only if you're in the highest income brackets.

Palin and most of the people who spoke were misrepresenting reality to the American people. She may just as well have been George Bush talking about WMD in Iraq. A lie is a lie. And when you put somebody who does that repeatedly and just as a matter of tactics into power, that is MORE OF THE SAME.

        No McSame; No McCain

    • Posted By: Abots22 @ 09/04/2008 4:55:34 PM

Great argument, really. When you get past 3rd grade name calling, maybe you can back up your OPINIONS with some....any....facts. Any at all. Please. Why do you think Palin is "TRAILER TARSH"? Why do you think McCain is only running for selfish ambition, but Obama isn't? Why do you think McCain is using the same ole GOP rhetoric? Please, do you have any facts at all to offer us? Sounds like you are voting for Obama because of what he isn't instead of what he is. Great endorsement!

      • Posted By: metzlerd @ 09/05/2008 6:23:48 AM

The same old GOP rhetoric? Seriously?
It's the same thing they do every election.
Lie about their opponents. Present false solutions. And then lob insults. It's recognizable by now.
It's divide and conquer. They do it all the time, and you can't seriously say you don't recognize it!

    • Posted By: louisiana1 @ 09/04/2008 4:38:58 PM

comment: "Trailer Trash" ? you are so smouth and educated.
Pulling her up from the "Bottom" of a list? you need to follow this woman for a few more weeks and watch her step up and debate your man out of the arena. You need to Rview (in your words) and then eat your words. You define "trash" to easy, you need not be so cruel and sharp, it points to your own self! for some one who is seeking the truth watch and listen to the reviews of Ms. Palin, from both sides. Guess we will not see you in the White House.

Whether McCain will be a president in the Reagan mold, matters far less than the fact that he has vowed to appoint more judges in the Bush mold. Once the Supreme Court gives decisions based on Scalia, Thomas and Roberts' views, only fundamentalist (reborn, evangelical, etc.) christians (and ironically the Taliban who also object to choice, sex education and homosexuality) will feel at home in the U.S.

  • Posted By: kastner98 @ 09/05/2008 4:14:41 AM

This comment about McCain as a possible president in the Reagan mold overlooks that he has promised to appoint judges in the Bush mold. With a Supreme Court united in fundamentalism of the Scalia / Roberts kind, in a few years only fundamentalist christians (reborn, evangelical, and others) will feel at home in the U.S. This, and nothing else, is the reason why Obama needs to win.
